IMac stand query

Can anyone advise me how I can removed the stand from the back of my iMac. It is 21.5" screen bought late 2010. We have tried the credit card trick but nothing seems to be happening. If anyone can help, that would be great.

Cat-proof iMac stand?

My mom just got a new 24" iMac. It's been sitting in the box, unopened, for the past 2 days. (She's scared the cat might knock it over.) Is there any kind of 3rd party add-on for the stand that can be secured to the desk, or something that significantly increases stability/surface area of the included stand?
Note: I've seen the i360 swivel stand. That thing doesn't look like it has any screwholes, or any other means to secure it to the desk, and it doesn't seem to increase the surface area all that much.

The bottom of the iMac stand slides into this base, and gets secured in place with a back panel that attaches with one screw. So it is not just sitting one top of the base. The base makes the bottom of the iMac larger and wider, making it less likely to tip over. It also adds weight. The bottom of the base has sticky rubber feet, so it's less likely to slide. And it has the added benefit of letting the iMac swivel "360" degrees.
If you decide to get one, be sure to get the larger version for the 24" iMac.
You could probably devise a way to use the rubber feet secure it to the table. Maybe put some of that spongy double-stick tape on the bottom of the feet.

24" iMac stand doesn't align with the body??

When I look at my 24" iMac, the unit itself doesn't align very well with the stand. I noticed that from many different angles.
It looks a little bit wired, but the unit swing very smoothly.
Does anyone has the same problem too??
Will it be better if I remove the stand and install it again?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It takes a special card that you must purchase from Apple to detach the stand from the iMac. I would suggest that if it doesn't appear to be attached correctly that you have an Apple Certified Technician check it out for you and make any necessary adjustments.

IMac Stand, does it come out?

Hi there and a very Merry Xmas to you all!
My question is related to the fact that i am uncertain if i will buy an iMac or a Macbook Pro,for my wife, i really like the iMac but the thing is i want something "semi-portable", with the fact that the iMac size is relatively small i was pondering carrying it from my house in Uk to my parents house in Portugal... But as always i don't want to break anything so i wanted to know, for portability sake, does the stand/support of the iMac comes out, or is there any Backpack specific for this model that will enable me to carry it to wherever i want to?

On the 24" models you can remove the stand and use a VESA mount. I don't think it's an easy job though.
As for moving the iMac take a look at the iLugger (link).

Re-attach iMac stand after VESA mount

I've had my 24 iMac mounted with the VESA Mount kit. Now I need to re-attach the stand. I've tried following the instructions backwards, but when I get to the part with the access card, I can't get it to work. I'm afraid to use a lot of force, because I don't want to break something. I've had no luck googling this.
Any clues?

Hi, I had same problem when I decided to replace my stand on 24in white Apple, after a lot of cursing I found that after replacing the screws etc you now have to place more pressure on the stand by pushing downwards before sliding the card in, I am assuming that you have the face of the computer laying face down on a soft cloth, give it a try, Robin u/k.

Different iMac stand to lower iMac

I'm trying to set up my new late 2012 27" iMac and it is too high on my desk. My neck is really beginning to bother me. I see that an adapter kit is available (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD179ZM/A/vesa-mount-adapter-kit-for-imac-andl ed-cinemaor-applethunderbolt-display)
but it says: "Note: Not compatible with iMac (late 2012). Wall mount or articulating arm not included."
It's currently about 2.5 inches from the top of the desk. Lowering it 2 inches would really help. Not sure if it'd be enough but would be the best I could do to still allow air flow from the bottom.
I never would have thought that it would be too tall.

My initial reponse would be to simply suggest you either 1.) RAISE your seating (add a cushion, or the proverbial phone book) or 2.) place the IMAC on a lower surface top!
I'm giving your query the benefit of the doubt (in that there MUST be more details involved or you would've done either of the above by now on your own). I can only suggest you pursue a better location set up for your iMac, as it would be far easier than wracking your brain over trying to figure out how to modify the actual system/display (in addressing a problem too easily resolved by common sense means...
In all honesty, I am still trying to wrap my brain around the possibility your query was, in fact, serious, and not the "you've got to be kidding us, right?" joke it resembles... Apologies if I've misunderstood, but I only have your own (question) words to go by...

Help - iMac stand mount snapped into case / out of reach

Hi,
I've tried switching the iMac 24" stand with the VESA mount today and the unthinkable happened. While all screws were off the mount that's inside the casing (holding the stand in place that's usually attached to this piece), the mount snapped back into the casing!
It is now out of reach, because of this tiny hole in the back of the computer. I've been to the store and they tell me they need to take apart the whole machine to get to the mount, resulting in some $650-700 repair cost. I just can't afford this, so I'm wondering whether anybody has an idea how to grab this mount and turn it outside. The spring(s) attached to it are incredibly strong, so that nothing moves when trying to pull it with some cable that I've threaded through a screw hole.
Gee, how can Apple make this SO unaccessible?

I did just that. It wasn't the cheapest thing, because they had to take apart the whole machine as apparently you can only open the iMac from the front. So they needed to take out all the stuff inside to get to the back panel - what a great idea to build it like that...

Replace Late 2012 27" iMac stand for Vesa Mount

I purchased the Late 2012 27" Vesa iMac as soon as it came out. Now, I'd like to wall mount it and I see that there's a VESA compatible iMac. I don't want to sell my iMac and buy another one with the VESA adapter. Does anyone know if it's possible to take my currrent iMac to an Apple Service Center and have the stand swapped for the vesa adapter?

Not possible unfortunately as the mount is built into the back of the computer...you will have to come up with another solution or replace the machine. I seriously doubt an Apple Store would perform this upgrade but an AASP might, you need to visit one and discuss it with them.

Remove the Imac Stand

27" iMac stand failed - iMac tilts down!

Last night watched a movies then went to bed at about 01:00. Monitor was fine in raised position. This morning at about 8:00, monitor was tilted forward to extreme… tried to raise, but it fell forward again! Stand will NOT fix iMac in desired position!
Can this be fixed, or does it involve a long-winded process (still under warranty!)

Yes itcan be fixed. Be thankful that it's still under warranty. Make an appointment and take it to the nearest Apple Store.

Windows iPod Photo Transfer to new iMac G5 Query

Hi,
I have a 40 GB iPod Photo that is fortmated for use with a PC using Windows Pro.
I have over 28 GB data or tracks on it, and i now wish to use it with my new iMac G5 that I have just purchased.
The thing is I dont know how to go about doing this, because I am concerned that if I copnnect it to my iMac G5, iTunes will remove all of the music that is already on my iPod, and I cannot have that happen, as It would take me forever to copy them to CDrom and then timport them into the iMac, I gues it would probably take me all of the Christmas and new year that way, and I have no idea if that would work poperly anyway.
Can anyone advise me how I can achieve my move over to the Apple computer please, without loosing my music. Once this is done I will not be wanting to connect it to my PC again. My iPod Photo is also set to 'Disc Mode' in iTunes so that I can see it as a drive in Windows if this is of any help.

As far as the Maxtor drive is concerned, I have kept it formatted as a NTFS Windows drive because OS X can read it without any problems at all, and apparently, according to Maxtor's web-site, if I format it as a Mac drive then it will not be recognised by the Windows system, and that I would have to partition it above 32MB!
So, I have purchased a Belkin Wireless Cable Router (it works with ADSL as well) for about 40 UK pounds. This I have connected to my Win XP machine with an Ethernet cable, and I now access both my 10MB Broadband cable connection and my Win XP machine on the iMac via the Airport Extreme wireless connection.
It was extremely (forgive the pun) easy to set-up, and took about 40 minutes from start to finish and that's only because the Windows machine crashed once, but after that it was just fine.
If you can, I would consider going for the Ethernet/Router way because it gives you access to both machines and Internet connections as well as printer and scanner sharing.
So if you wan't to know anything else, just let me know and I will do my best to explain.

IMac, actually is any mac worth it? -doesn't i in iMac stand for Internet?

Somewhere after the 10.5.2 updates, things started going south.
I should also include I'm on ATT Yahoo DSL 3/512 with a 2Wire 2701 HGB. Also tested on a Ambit (single line, Natted but not routed) Cable modem (would not acquire DHCP).
using just ethernet, many pages would time out (that is half the graphics would go to question marks) - wireless was slightly better (of course, the router is right next to the iMac).
Since I have active cable as well, Charter - I thought I'd try that route, assuming the 2Wire router is bad & or hostile to Macs - Trying the Ambit would not acquire a DHCP address. I can connect (sporadically) to my Linksys WRT54G (tho it isn't online, just trying to connect to it) - again, wireless on the iMac has usually worked fine - but this gigabit weirdness is buggin me out - no plans to upgrade my gaming and business box to wireless just to talk to the mac.
Local service shop said the network port was bad, and replaced the logic board (along with the DVD Drive that had been failing to mount half the time).
Now if I drop the wireless - (leave ethernet on, MTU 1500) ethernet is still back to the same tricks (gigabit ethernet not negotiating a 100 base connection) - I'm talking about "talking to the routers" - from the ethernet port, down that 3 foot cable (cat5e), to the router. I have timeouts there. This is insane.
What am I missing here? Gigabit ethernet smoothly auto-negotiates from 10/100/1000 on Windows.
Since this just got out of the shop with a certified "stamp of repair approval" I am quite unsure of what to do at this point. (well, I'm becoming more sure, stick with what works!)

that was the route I took this time when I updated to 10.5.6 - the downloaded combo updater rather than the smaller (half the size) Mac updater...
Pretty sure this is a combination of MTU, 2Wire 2701 oddities and me not knowing how to solve them directly (as well as the ipv6 stuff that's still showing in the logs despite IPv6 being turned off).
Anyhow, I did get it connected under the Ambit finally (took restarting the mac, not expecting that in the "switch" from windows xp)- and that really rocked. Now I'm working on teaching my 2Wire to be a dumb modem, to go with the operator
Actually, I think I'll just cut my losses for the moment and go with cable, once I find a good wireless router to connect the media center and xp box up front.
