IMAc starts itself up automatically every night at midnight.  Any fix yet?

We have had this problem since updating to Lion.  I see from the site that this is an old problem, so I am hoping it has been solved by now.

Do you mean "goes from turned off to turned on," or "wakes from sleep?" Different issues.
There is a "Schedule" option button in System Preferences > Energy Saver that will tell the computer to automatically turn itself on at whatever time is set:
Note that, if the first checkbox is selected and nothing else changed, the computer will start at midnight.

I've probably accidentally fiddled with something, but could anybody give me any reasons why my computer starts itself up from a shut down state at 00:00 every day?
    It's getting quite annoying. :-D

That wasn't it, I think it's a problem with Leopard.

  • Use Automator to launch a program every night at midnight

I want Automator to launch Tivo Transfer every night at midnight. How would I set that up? Thanks!

You can actually create an iCal event that will run an AppleScript or Automator action at a given time, and have that event repeat at the same time every day. Another way is to use a Cron job.
    For iCal:
    1. Save the Automator workflow as an application.
    2. Select Add Alarm on a new or current event.
    3. Select Open File: Other, and open your saved workflow application.
    4. Enter the time and date that you want the workflow to run.
If iCal is not running at the scheduled time, the workflow will run when iCal is next opened.

At all other times of day the broadband lives up to expectations.  Any advise appreciated, we previous had no problems with BE Broadband except for dire connections to US/Japan Servers (Sony/Square Enix etc), which was pretty much a problem of insufficient bandwidth on their backbone network.

    A "lay" explanation is this.
As IMJ has stated, at night the noise margin is dropping to a level whereby it becomes difficult for the DSL to bitload the data into the ADSL spectrum without undue error correction and bitswapping, and often increased error rate.
This situation tends to throttle down throughput .... and if it got worse, which clearly it isn't doing, it's just staying at a poor level .... the modem would drop the connection, and renegotiate .... and come back with target margin, at which juncture it would bitload and throughput would return to normal.
So what IMJ is saying is ... if it doesn;t drop and continues to hobble along .... force a drop, or reset it, and it will come back as if it had dropped by the modem forcing a drop.
In the end DLM will hopefully get hold of the situation and set the line parameters in a fashion which will sustain a connection and bitload properly 24 hours a day .... but sometimes it needs help, and especially if it didn't linetrain properly.
If it continues manual intervention is useful to set the noise margin accordingly until the line has re-trained.
Resetting the hub or modem is not a good idea with DSL, however in this instance if an automatic cure is not forthcoming, it is the ONLY time I would advocate a router reset, especially at night, when margin is depleted.

  • Imac safari browser shuts down automatically when using Flashplayer. Any fix ?

safari shuts down automatically in combo with FlashPlayer.  Any fix ?

You may have a Safari add on installed that's not compatible with Flash. A crash report may reveal what's going on...
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.
Make sure and include the "binary images" section.
BEFORE you post a crash report, reinstall Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard
Retart your Mac, try Safari. If it still crashes, then post the report in your reply.

  • Birthday alarms every night at midnight driving me insane!

I keep getting birthday alarms going off every time someone has a birthday. The alarm goes off at midnight. I have birthdays turned off in the Calendar app. I have all alarms off in the Preferences/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/Calendars.
I tired deleting the calendars and re syncing them over iCloud. No luck. Any ideas? Thanks! Major karma points if you can help me.

I exported all my contacts on my mac, and reimported them. then re-sync'd everything.  Not sure if that will solve it, but I'm guessing there is some corruption somewhere.  I should probably do the same thing with my Calendar app also.

  • Firefox update 31.0 automatically signing me out email, social media, etc. automatically during current session. Any fixes on this bug yet?

Logging into accounts such as Gmail and Facebook, and getting automatically signed out after a few minutes of being logged in during the same session of Firefox. Haven't had this issue in previous versions of Firefox with current settings (safe browsing mode, clear history, etc.). This query is not about being logged in when I reopen and start a new session with Firefox - this issue is during an open Firefox session.

    Hello,
It seems that the Cookies file of your profile is corrupted. I think, deleting the files will fix your problem. For doing so, please do following:
    # Go to '''Menu''' and then '''Help''' By pressing the "Question Mark" of bottom.
    # Then go '''Troubleshooting Information'''.
    # Click on '''Show Folder'''.
    # In that folder, delete the following Files
    #* cookies.sqlite
    #* cookies.sqlite-shm
    #* cookies.sqlite-wal
    Then restart your Firefox.
Hope after this, your problem has been solved. Please get back to us by letting us know if it solves.

  • I have had wireless issues sense Leapord, any fixes yet? its a shame that my wife has to sit in front of our 27 inch imac on a $300 Windows computer to use the web effectively. I have tried all fixes  and some work while others don't but all temporary

This Lion wireless issue has become more than just an irritation, so much so, my wife has resorted to sitting in front of a 27 inch imac with a 300 dollar Walmart Windows computer to get the bills paid and use the web. And yes, there is not a fix out there I haven't tried over the last year or so, some worked and some didn't, but all were temporary at best. Same issue with my Macair, I wonder if its a hardware issue, like the video card in my 2006 MBP, it went out after the warrenty and then I found out there was a calss action suit going on over it, unfortunately Apple wouldn't cover it and wanted 7oo bucks to fix it, sold that as parts.
While i really like me Macs, I own three, I may have to bow out and stick with LINUX, that has yet to let me down, anyone know if Mountain will fix this issue? or are we all just waiting for defective WiFi cards to fail at our own expense, PS, got three Macs for sale.

Sounds like you're getting kernel panics, which are usually, but not always, caused by hardware problems, with memory being one of the regular culprits.
First thing I would do is to get our your original OS X disks, insert the first one (should say 'AHT version x.x' in small print on the label - if not, find the one that does), and reboot holding the Alt key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. If you have either of the TechTool programs, they can do similar testing. Does that identify any hardware issues?
Next, I'd download rember from http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/ . This is a memory testing program that you can set to run overnight. Does it come up with any errors? If so, try resetting your memory card(s) by removing and putting back into the computer. Rerun memory test.
This FAQ will provide other details: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

  • Imac wakes itself

How do I stop my imac waking itself everynight at midnight?

This is discussed in some other places here, but I start to post the solution here:
My iMac also starts to wake up every night at 1 a.m. - even if I shut it down, it starts up at exactly this time. The different times (midnight, 4 a.m., etc.) seem to have something to do with time zones or daylight savings time settings. I searched here for an answer, and there was one that I tried (and only this one, so I can tell that this is really the solution for this annoying problem).
All I did was to activate the automatic startup in the "Energy saver" prefs, then *changed the time* (wich was per default at 0:00) to something else (I choosed 9 a.m., but everything else should work). Then I disabled the automatic startup again. And now my Mac sleeps well.
Nothing like "delete prefs" or "repair permissons", that was the only thing I did.
I hope this helps all other people here.
Thanks to the one who gave this hint!
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany - Tom

  • How to search for BT device automatically every x seconds?

I have a Trust BT-2100p which came with the Toshiba Bluetooth software.
I can connect my Bluetooth remote control to my HTPC, but when I disconnect and want to reconnect again, I have to right click on the device, press "connect" and then "OK" in the popup window before it starts searching.
The whole point with the remote is that I don't need a keyboard or a mouse.
I can make a simple .bat-file that starts the connection automatically every x seconds, but it can't press the "OK" button.
Is there a way to make it search for the device automatically every x seconds?

HID devices are automatically connected as soon as a button was pressed on it. I checked the internet regarding your WII devices. The problem in your case is that this devices supports a none standard function which must be configured first in oder to reconnect by HID automatically. So this has to be done by the software which you mentioned. It has to configure the controller which should be used. This device support 4 of it.

HI Randy and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try disconnecting the USB hub for one night and see if the G5 crashes. If it doesn't, then it's obviously not the hub. Just a process of elimination.
Also, check the hard disk just in case:
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click the Verify button. If DU reports errors, click Repair. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.

Sorry to ask my question is the header. Anyway, just stated asking for the password every night around midnight. I enter and all seem OK. I’m confused.

A few days ago I was browsing the internet and Safari randomly closed and asked me to "reset" so that it would work. I clicked reset and didn't lose my bookmarks and nothing seemed to be different. At midnight that night Safari logged me out of the websites that I had been logged into, and has done this every night at midnight ever since. Is there any way to fix this? I'd love to have it back like it was.
