IMac sticking at the apple logo screen

I just turned on my 24 inch iMac  it starts to boot, the music plays, the apple logo appears then the whirley wheel appears and the machine sticks with a blank grey screen. I have tried Turing it on and off. I tried plugging in a wired keyboard in place of the wireless keyboard and pressing keys at random, but no change.
The iMac is  running Lion and has been updated. It's been behaving.
Anyone have any suggestions
Andrew

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CSeq "I/O error" | tail | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the window will be empty. If you get output like this:
kernel[0] <Debug>: disk0s2: I/O error
the boot drive is failing, or there's some other hardware fault in the storage subsystem.

I replaced my 2010-2011 iMac internal HD i dont have an install disk i created one with my external HD but when i go to install lion onto my imac it stays at the apple logo screen.HELP ME PLEASE!

Boot from the original Install disc that came with the computer and then format the drive Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using the GUID partition. Then  you can re-install OS X. If you no longer have the original media call AppleCare with the serial number of the machine (look on the bottom of the stand) and for a nominal fee they will ship you replacement media.
The chances are very good you will have fan problems if you used an off-the-shelf HD, beginning in 2009 Apple began using HD's from vendors that incorporated heat sensors into the HD. If you did not buy the same type of HD your computer will think the HD is overheating causing the fans to run at full speed.

  • My 27inch iMac has been stuck on the Apple logo screen.

My 27inch iMac has been stuck on the Apple logo screen which the spinning wheel stuck for a few days now and I've tried everything. I've tried com s fsck repair, option boot from a dvd and still nothing please help.

Please be specific, saying "I've tried everything" doesn't tell us a thing. I'd recommend starting by using what Apple says in Gray screen appears during startup.

  • PLEASE HELP 2/24/13 Brand new iPod Touch 5th Gen froze on set up and I tried to shut it down and it was on the apple logo screen for a long time and it shut down but now it won't turn on! PLEASE HELPPPPPP

DESPERATE PLEASE HELP So my mother got herself an iPod touch 5g for Christmas and barely asked me to set it up last night, (BRAND NEW NOT OPENED YET).. I set it up not plugged into iTunes (directly on iPod). I was setting up a new iTunes account for her (got passed Wi-fi set up and location services) and as I was doing that, it mysteriously froze somehow. So I held the home button and power button down simultaneously, which I thought would restart the iPod/shut it down.. so it did, and it was on the apple logo screen for a LONG TIME.. and when I checked after a long time, it was black. I tried to turn it on, charge, and plug it into itunes (iMac computer) and it won't turn on!!!!! PLEASE HELP

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IMac G4 hangs at apple logo screen after 10.5.8 update

Hello, thanks for any help you can provide with this problem.
Machine is iMac G4 flat panel. Did an erase and install of Leopard over firewire from iMac G5. Immediately copied 10.5.8 combo update I'd downloaded earlier from the G5 and ran it on the G4. The update completed successfully, albeit slowly, and I clicked restart. After a long wait at blank desktop, machine rebooted on its own. It got as far as the Apple logo screen with spinner spinning, and then it hung. I didn't want to jump to conclusions that it was indeed frozen, so I let it sit there and spin for at least 2 hours. Even for an old G4 this seemed like a bit much, so I forced it to power off and tried again. Still hangs.
At this point I figure something went wrong with the update, so I did another erase and install of virgin Leopard over firewire from the same G5. Repeated update process. It once again completed successfully, I clicked restart, it paused, then rebooted on its own again. To my great dismay, it once again hung at the spinny spinner Apple logo screen.
Now, this is the fourth G4 machine I've done this on in the last week, and the other three are running normally. 1 was another iMac G4, the other 2 were eMac G4's.
    Any suggestions?

Interestingly, I brought the G4 into work today and connected it to the G5 with FireWire and turned both on. For some reason (I'm not Mac Pro here, so this might be obvious to some of you) the G5 booted from the G4's HDD and the system started up just fine. I ran repair permissions on the G4's HDD and restarted it. It now boots up fine. Not sure if it was the repairing permissions that fixed it or booting the OS on a different machine. Either way, problem is resolved. Thanks for your input.
    Edit: Fixed typo

  • Imac 5k stuck on apple logo screen after latest update

Hi - i have a magazine deadline and a major issue:
i've been having loads of kernel panics (see thread here Brand new imac 5k kernel panic) and having seen there was a new update figured it would be worth installing it to see if it fixed them as nothing so far suggested by apple support has helped. Once it had downloaded the update the OS said it needed to reboot to finish installation.  It got half way through the loading bar on the apple logo screen and got stuck. I left it an hour, came back still nothing. Left it another hour and it was still just stuck half way.  I rebooted into diagnostics and ran that and it said everything was fine but further reboots just get as far as halfway through the bar.  I'm now stuck as the computer was only a month or so old and i hadn't yet set up back up on it. I was still in the process of getting everything configured and over from my old machine.  Problem is I have a bunch of photos that were transferred on to it that i shot 2 weeks ago and I need them for a magazine deadline tomorrow and apple support options could only call me back on Thursday - if anyone can suggest anything i will be VERY grateful. I've already tried SMC and PRAM resets.

I did that, a fresh OS install and it worked for about 4 hours then i got a kernel panic

  • I dropped my iPhone 3G and now it won't past the apple logo screen

I was listening music this morning and I accidentally dropped my iPhone 3G and hit the floor, it turned off in
that moment, and I tried to turn it on and didn't work, when I got home I connected to the
computer with the USB cable and the apple logo screen showed up but after aprox. 15-20 seconds
turns off, and iTunes doesn't recognizes it, is there any solution or do I need to take it to repair?

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart, usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If still problem, Restore iPhone, connect iPhone to computer with iTunes 10.7 or 11 open, hold both Home and Power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click Restore button of iTunes. If still problem perform DFU Mode Restore of iPhone.

  • My Ipod is stuck on the Apple Logo Screen

For some reason, every time I update my Ipod touch it has restarting issues. I got it late December early January, so it's still new. The first time I updated it, it told me I needed to connect to Itunes and that it was in recovery mode and long story short I had to sync it from a computer that was not my own and it took two days for me to get it back up and running. This time, it's stuck on the apple logo screen. I tried turning it off by holding the lock and home button, but it just turned right back on. So then I was hoping that I could plug it into the computer and start it on recovery mode, but it doesn't even show up as being plugged into my computer. So now i'm lost at what to do.

  • My iPhone 4 is stuck on the apple logo screen, help!

I tryed deleting some of my most used apps, and as I was re-installing one it was taking forever so i decided to reset it by holding down the lock and home button at the same time. It's been sitting on the apple logo screen for almost an hour now and plugging it into itunes or plugging it into the charger hasn't done anything for me. • Not loading past the apple logo screen/bottom button?/taking off files

My computer won't start up. I hear the little intro music, and the apple logo screen comes up, but then it doesn't go any further. Do you think it's the battery? We were having problems with the chord before this problem showed up. The chord wouldn't light up and stay in the computer unless it was being pushed in by something else.
Also...the little button on the bottom of the computer: what is that? When you push it, the dots of light glow. Does that mean the battery is working?
If my computer is infact unfixable, can I take the files off somehow? Maybe by taking something out of this computer, and putting it in another? This is what bothers me most, lossing my files.
    ibook g4   Windows XP

I am having the same problem. did you by chance get your iBook in January of 05? I have encountered many people who got their iBook around that time and all having same problem. any how, before mine got really bad, one fix I had was to shut down your computer, remove the battery on the back (and yes, the green lights show how much charge you have)and hold the power button down for 6 seconds. Replace the battery and then try turning it on. This worked for me and I was able to burn all of my files off until it crashed again. My above fix will no longer work for me. Another option is to go to your closest Apple store. They will look at your computer and start it up off of a separate hard drive and pull your info for you for free. There is only a charge to actually fix the problem. Good luck.

  • I just restarted my phone, and now its frozen on the apple logo screen it shows when it restarts! anyone know how to get it to work?

My phone is frozen on the apple logo screen that shows when restarting. I tried to restart it again, but it still freezes and stays on that screen . I really dont want to reformat! Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?  THANKS!

You have to put it in dfu mode, when its plugged into itunes reset it by holding the home and the power button, when it starts back up let go of the power button and just hold the home button it should find your phone and say its in restore mode. from there you just have to restore it
