Imac still wont fully boot up.

i dont know what to do anymore.
it stays on a black screen then a blue screen and never goes naywhere else...
it wont boot from the cds.
what should i do?

Hello addict:
If the computer will not boot from your software install DVD, you probably should take it to either an Apple certified technician or to an Apple store for diagnosis.
Your profile does not have any information about your computer. If yours is a G5 and the serial number falls into this range, you have a warranty issue:

  • 17 inch iMac G5 wont fully start-up.

Hi. Having trouble getting my G5 iMac(OS 10.4)(non-isight) to fully start-up. For about the last week Ive noticed that Ive been increasingly finding that sometimes when I click on something.....ie...a webpage or link, etc......I get the colored spinning ball.......I then shut down by pressing the start button and restart.Yesterday when I started it up......it would not fully boot to my Log-in screen or desktop. It gets past the grey screen with the Apple Logo to a solid blue screen where I can move the mouse around.......but not to the Log-in screen.
Ive tried unplugging all cables except keyboard.
Ive tried inserting my OS 10.2 install CD and holding down the C key.......but it only brings up the blue screen again.
Ive tried resetting the PRAM........but same results.
Any ideas on what the problem is or what I should try next. (Note:I also have an iMac G3 if that can be used at all with TDM).Im not too Tech savvy......so would appreciate clear instructions. Thanks for any help.

Before I mark this thread as solved.........just wondering if you could tell me what "Invalid Volume Header" means and if you know why this problem occurred?......so I can try to avoid a repeat in the future. Thanks
I don't know the exact meaning of +Invalid Volume Header+; I know this is vague -- I just don't know enough about this and maybe someone else will be able to explain it -- but it means there was directory corruption on the drive. I'm also not sure what might have caused it. It might be the drive is on the way out. If DU was able to repair it, then it probably wasn't that serious, or if it recurs, it might mean some underlying problem with the drive itself. The Hardware Test is notorious for being forgiving. If it's original, the drive is at least five years old and that's when things may start to go wrong with drives. Of course, some last much longer and some have problems almost right away.
There is this utility that may do a better diagnosis of the condition of the drive.
    http://www.volitans-software.com/
Here is a Discussions thread that raises some questions about that report from DU.

What I do know is that if you don't already have a backup, preferably a bootable clone, then you should make sure you have one ASAP.
And one more thing. How much free space do you have on the drive? You need to maintain around 15% of capacity free.

  • Stuck at 70% wont fully boot up

Hello everyone, I am currently having an issue with my blackberry not fully booting up. I have read through multiple outdated threads, which refer to a re installation of the OS . I do not get any kind of error or white screen when booting up. My phone starts to booth up as if i did a normal battery pull and just stops at about 75%. I left it for about an 1 hour and nothing, removed the sd card, sim card and nothing. I recall whatsapp being the last app that I downloaded. I really don't want to reinstall the OS as I have not done a backup for quite so time( I know its my fault =[ ). I really hope there is something that can be done to get my phone up and running again.

    Hi,
    There are two options.
    first one,
Are you able to take backup via connecting bb handset  to pc,
    If yes,
    Please take back up
    If No,
Please let me know version of OS  of device and Desktop manager version both
If DM version is 6.1 or latest , the option will come
    If not coming
    please click on link:
    https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=BD4C9AB730F5513206B999EC0D90D1FB
you have to choose BlackBerry handset Os version according to your handset type,(curve, bold, pearl etc).
download that software version, and install on pc,
then u have to connect device via cable
it will automatically take start of set up wizard , as u mentioned

  • EMac wont fully boot from HD and wont allow boot from CD/DVD

I got a eMac the other day knowing something was wrong with it but figured it was probably a Open Firmware issue. I cant get the thing to boot all the way from the HD, it will give the loading screen with the blue bar going accorss then go to a solid blue screen and sit. If I try to boot with option it will ask for a password and has a lock on the boot screen. I tried to reset the PRAM with Option Command P & R and it still just boots to the main HD but stalls like without pressing anything. Im just trying to start from scratch with this computer(No passwords and a fresh install of OSX).

OK, I got the Open Firmware off of it, so it boots from the CD now. Problem is that now it wont install OSX. I have TIger and Panther and have tried both. With Tiger it will boot fine and lets me start the install process and then about 15% into the intall it quits with errors and cant install. With Panther it just wont boot from the CD at all it gives me a circle with line diaganal line through it. Maybe the battery is bad ill check that tonight. Other than that I cant think of what else it could be other than bad ram maybe. Ill change that too and rule that out as well.

  • Wont fully boot-Snowy/Distorted Display

    Have a 2 year old ATV-love it.
One day noticed 'snowy' or speckled display. A reboot did not fix. A reboot and let sit for around 24 hours did not fix. Subsequent reboots have the ATV not booting all the way-getting hung up. Have seen an empty ATV menu through the distortion.
    Thoughts-is the ATV DOA?
Repair thoughts-I could pay 49 for a support incident but that is not going to give me hardware repair-correct? Am I just screwed?
    Thanks!

you could visit your local apple store's genius bar. any advice given there is free.
i assume you have tried other cables? if so, it sounds like the appletv is faulty.

  • Possible to run repair permissions before mac fully boots?

Is it possible to use a keyboard shortcut during boot, type in some code, and run disk utiliy or repair permissions?
Cause I would like to run it but the powerbook wont fully boot and my install disk is in a different city.
Can I use anyones leopard install cd or does it need to be mine?
    plz help
    Message was edited by: wroth

VK and Kenichi are right. Permissions have changed so don't run repair permissions from a non-Leopard disk.
However, repairing permissions has really become a "magical elixir" that is supposed to solve all kinds of problems. It won't.
Apple's official recommendation is not to run repair permissions from the install disk because a software update could have changed permissions. In any event, if your machine won't boot, repairing permissions won't help. Repairing the disk might.
The HFS+ file system hasn't changed in Leopard. If your machine won't boot, and all you have is a Tiger disk, running disk repair should be safe. After all, it is perfectly safe to have both Leopard and Tiger on the same machine and Tiger can and will run disk repair on its own when it boots up.
Hopefully I've salvaged something from my technical reputation.

    Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first.  (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions.  (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs.  (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have  Web Browser open ?
This may point to  Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict.  It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing  what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded  apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

  • My 27inch imac (2010) wont boot ,

it gets to the apple logo and then to the next grey screen and stops there , but on one out of 100 boots it might boot as normal , its driving me crazy can anyone shed some light on this for me ....thanks
also if it does boot up as normal it might only go for a limited time and then freezes , i have done the hardware scan and it come up with no trouble found and also reset the pram about 100 times , tried to start in safe mode etc ..... done every combo of keys i can find referance to on the net and it still wont boot , exept randomly , also changed out the hard dive and the ram with known good units but nothing....... please if anone can help me before i go crazy that would be so cool.......... i also rang a local mac shop and the said that the logic board is stuffed and they will replace it for around $1000 ........ that is not an option.... and then the dude also said he will buy it from me for $300......... *** ...... maby he knows its an easy fix and is trying to screw me over....... anyone please help

You could have a failing hard drive. If you can, you need to backup all of your data.
Try and run Disc Utiity from your original discs or from your OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard install disc.
Try doing both permissions repair and hard drive repair.
If the drive reports any errors, then there is serious problem with the internal hard drive.
You could take a chance that it is not a logic board failing and purchase an external FireWire 800 hard drive and install a new version of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard on the new drive, boot OS X from the new ext. drive  and try to transfer/clone all of your data from your internal hard drive.
Find another Apple Store or another authorized Apple service center to bring your iMac.
When they do the diagnostics, If they find it's the Logic board, then you're out of luck!
You'll need to look for another computer.
If they find it's a failing internal hard drive, then you can have this drive replaced. The costs to replace the internal hard drive should not be too bad.

My mac book pro will not fully boot up. I have the grey background with the apple sign and the timer going round...but 20 minutes later still no desktop

You could try doing a hard shut down (holding the power button or yanking the battery) and then doing a safe boot by holding the shift key at startup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
Also, not sure if this applies in your case, but I've had that happen when there's a USB drive inserted either in the computer or a connected external keyboard.  I did a hard shut down, removed the drive and it went through a normal start up.

    poppyp_z,
Uninstall iTunes. It's borked. Uninstall ewido. It's also borked.
Download, install and update Spybot Search & Destroy, then run it. Set it to run on next boot, as well.
You might also want to check your computer for rootkits.
Are you sure that your system meets the minimum system requirements cited below?
    "Windows Requirements
Windows XP or 2000 (latest service packs recommended)
500 MHz Pentium class processor or better
    QuickTime 7.1 (included)
    256MB RAM
Supported CD-R or DVD-R drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
    Additional Video Requirements
1.5 GHz Pentium class processor or better
    32MB video RAM"
    Hope this helps.

SATA II is generally just fine, no fuss no muss, for the system. Using PCIe to boot adds problems and most if not all such PCIe SSD cards do NOT WORK in 32-bit Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 (and the 3,1 is also sometimes difficult with some cards).
Data uses though are useful, work, and benefit. Lightroom, Aperture, scratch, even iPhoto - all those graphic libraries.
I would rewrite and make it "will the native SATA II drive bays" work, and the answer to that is YES. But not faster.
You have a 4x and 8x slot, so one of those is fine.
It is the reads and zero latency seeks along with queue depth and high 90K IOs per sec that help an SSD shine.
Putting a 250GB or 500GB EVO 840 is the easiest and best return on system improvement you can make for $120-240 (plus $14 for Icy Dock adapter).
Even the 2008 has two 4x PCIe 1.1 slots. The 2009 has PCIe 4x 2.1 slots that share bandwidth and cap out (only learned from stripping SSDs using two PCIe cards and 2-4 SSDs), so they aren't perfect either! ONLY the 5,1 really has the best PCIe design and setup.
Sonnet only supports or recommends their Tempo Pro which is what I bought, so I don't know off hand how well yours works and if it even will. Some cards do require EFI 64-bit, AND 10.8.x or later, and maybe even PCIe 2.0 - but only to work, ie they don't work or not supported in PCIe 1.0... but NOT about the bandwidth.
Booting in 10 seconds is nice. Launching a full dozen apps in 10 seconds (and ready to use) also. Only larger program suites takes 20 seconds now.
250MB/sec is nothing to sneeze at when it comes to boot drive SSD.

  • HT204135 Help! My printer still wont scan

I have just installed an HP laser jet printer  with my imac, and even though i have updated the apple printer software it still wont scan.  There is no icon in the driver window, and preview and image capture do not work either.
    Can anyone suggest anything please?
    thanks

To scan with Image Capture / Preview you would need to have an ICA scanner driver installed on the Mac. If you refer to this Apple KB article about drivers that are available, is your model of HP in the list and is there an S in the Scan column?
If not, then check with HP for a scanner driver and possibly a supporting scanner application.
