IMac stuck on white screen, no shortcuts work. What to do?

Hello,
my iMac is just a few moths old and it is now stuck on white screen. Trying to hold alt or command+whatever at startup doesnt work. cmd+option+r+p havent helped as well. It starts, makes sound and stucks on this white blank screen. I have Win 7 installed as well. I have also tried unmounting all peripherals.I  used it yesterday, booted in Win 7 and I installed new wireless logitech mouse. Than restarted, installed new Win updates, restarted again. Then I worked in Win 7 and finally I shut it down. And today it is just stuck. Please help. Thanks a lot.

As I have written in my first post, trying to hold alt (option) key does not do anything

  • IMac Stuck on White Screen with Apple Logo

Currently own: iMac 21.5" 2009 version with Snow Leopard, 4GB Ram, 500 GB Hard drive
This computer was sitting in storage of my basement for 2 years because I was out of town on business.
When I came home the computer worked fine. But earlier this evening it was on sleep mode and the dreadful color wheel was on. So I rebooted it, only to see that it was stuck on the white loading screen with the Apple logo. And nothing more. Panic struck me and I tried restarting it again, to no avail. Then I tried rebooting in Safe mode- but it won't respond. THEN I called Apple Care, and they tried to have me go through the process where it checks the Hardware. It took 45 minutes and then the screen said "It was modified", or something to that degree. But when we reboot it, it returned to the white screen.
I am so upset. I now have an appointment with the Apple store on Monday. I don't have a warranty anymore. How much is it going to cost if they have to replace to hard drive? I thought Apple computers were meant to last! This is beyond ridiculous! I had not downloaded anything wrong, wasn't on crazy websites. It still had over 350 GB of space left. Why didn't the tests we did over the phone work? Is my computer broken? I do have an external hard drive with Time machine, so I am not concerned about losing my data. I am, however, concerned about shelling out another $1500 for a new computer!

If you are taking it to Apple they will fix it for you, but they will install Snow Leopard. If you want the current Mavericks you can download that yourself from your home and install it. This is dependent somewhat on what model you actually have.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
I can't help you any more if you don't have the installer DVD, so you will have to wait until Monday. I had hoped we might get you working before then, but that isn't going to happen, I"m afraid.

  • 21" iMac stuck on white screen, help!

I have had my 21" iMac for about three months, it is brand new, not second hand and has never had any problems up until now. My iMac was running fine today, not a glitch or anything, but it was unplugged from the power socket and when I plugged it back in and turned it on, the power on sound played, then a white screen appeared with an Apple and spinning wheel. I left it on for SEVEN hours while I went out, came back and it is still not loading, so it has nothing to do with the speed of it. I ran the FSCK and it told me there were modifications made and that the Mac was okay. I rebooted it and the same thing happened. I can not use the installation disc because a) I can not find it and b) there is a disc in tere that will not come out.
Is there anything I could do before having to make an appointment with an Apple Genius?

I have rebooted and managed to reach the Recovery HD and used “Verify Disk” on the Macintosh HD and it said “The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.” so I ran the disk repair just in case. I then selected “Restart” from the Apple menu. It returns to the white screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel, but it is still not loading any further than that. Is there anything else I could possibly try?

  • Imac stuck at white screen loading and never stops.

I recently ran a virus scan, and may have deleted important Apple files. Now, ever since I've turned it off, it won't come back on past the loading screen. It just keeps spinning and never stops. I did a hardware scan and everything seemed to be good. Do you think I should reinstall the boot discs? Will this be a problem since it won't stop loading? Any other suggestions?

Glad you are booted and running!
I can't help you with the Digidesign Pro Tool thing, but I did find a couple of articles that might.

  • Stuck on white screenn with apple logo what i do?

i have spent two days searching high and low and while the answer is out their my wife doesn't appreciate the information gained process rather the weekend is near and my planner is out of order, so before spending for a one time consultation i thought maybe one last try might be it,  then again i say the same with the lottery....anyone know today's? Ha! my question is how can I fresh start an imac 2.7 Ghz? we bought it 7 days ago and all worked well when a friend with a few newer models suggested the mountain lion upgrade only instead of buying from the store as I believe he did he loaded from a usb he owned so now what was thought to be a penny pinched is become awful expensive for such little copper, i have tried command+ r. command+ option +p +r, shift, c, command +c, space bar etc... am willing to try anything as i am finding out timing is just as critical as the right button combo, did i forget to mention, coming from the other side of the tracks where disarray is the norm i foolishly attempted to load snow leopard in attempts to back load and move forward, not sure the extent of damage it is capable but i haven't read any 5,4,3,or 2 star remarks, so if any help before coughing up the 50 is greatly appreciated, chuckles are welcome too....if  you cant laugh at yourself at times really what is  the point ha! thx again however it pans out, good day

Are you prepared to lose all your data and do an erase and install?
If so, and you are certain that the Mac had Lion pre-installed when new, and not an earlier version of OS X, then you probably need to do an Internet Recovery, which requires booting holding down Command + Option + r while starting up and doing an erase and install. You'll need a reliable connection to the internet as Lion will be re-downloaded and it is a 4gb+ download.
So far as Apple is concerned, if Lion was installed when new, you are entitled to re-install it without charge. More details here, but post back if you need clarification:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
I'm not certain, but it's possible that intenet recovery will allow you to re-install without erasing your data, which would be good. It may depend on how much things are mucked up.

  • Apple Hardware Test Stuck with white screen

    hy every one..............
i am unable to start the apple hardware test ,i've done anything ,holding d at start up with inserted installation disk, also with holding c........
    also inserted application cd....
apple logo appear and after some time with spinning wheel it stuck with white screen....What that means
    please help me out....
    what can i do???

If you are still using Snow Leopard -
Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
    Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Snow Leopard - This will install a "fresh" copy of Snow Leopard without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
If your computer is still under warranty or you have Apple Care, take full advantage of it by letting tech support deal with your problems.  It's what you're paying them for.
Out of warranty - take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • 27" 2009 iMac is stuck on white screen after OS X Maverick update

27" 2009 iMac is stuck on white screen after OS X Maverick update.  How do I get past this White Screen?  I have tried to use the PRAM reset, holding down Shift,Command, R, and P after turning off computer then when I turn it on, having those pressed until I see the apple symbol.  I only hear one chime. Never get to a second chime.  Thank you.

hi im abishek and my ipod touh 4 g is stuck on white screen and holding he power and hoe button doesnt work.what should i do?????!!!!!
and also my ipod doesnt show upp on itunes so i cant restore it.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
