IMac Suddenly Very Slow
Hi all,
Been running my imac on Mavericks since its release and everything was running great, this last week however things have really taken a dive in performance, I suspected a hardware issue i.e. the hard drive but have run a full suite of tests from techtool 7 and it has not identified a single issue with the computer.
The main issue I am having is copying files it used to be instant to copy a single file from one folder to another, now i get a processing message which lasts about 30 seconds to copy the same single small file. I have also noticed a lot of spinning beachballs. Generally though the whole cmputer feels as if its slowed significantly. Should i carry out a clean install or maybe go back to mountain lion?
My Etrecheck printout is below.

IMac Suddenly Very Slow-But Not Slow in Windows?!?
This is very odd.
I have a brand new iMac, no more than a couple weeks old.
Just upgraded to 10.6.3 as well with no issues. Now i booted into Windows 7 with no issues, But when i tried booting back into Mac OS, Start up took 10 mintues, and when i'm using finder etc, it locks up for a few minutes then finally regains some function.
Now it's not a app issue, tried Safe Mode, no apps or start up items etc running to cause this problem, Ram is good, 8GB, Per Disk Utility, Hard Drive SMART status is Verfied, and Disk comes back as no repairs needed. Tried Reparing permissions to no luck, ran Hardware test, all passed, booted from external 800 drive with much faster results. Tried PRAM reset to no luck either.
To me, it seems like such hard drive issue, but as i'm writing this, i'm booted into Windows 7 since on the Mac OS side, it seems to lock up the Hard Drive.
Booting into Windows 7 seems to run at full speed with no lock up or freeze issues.
My specs are iMac 10,1 3.33 Dual Core, 8GB Ram, ATI 4670.
So any ideas what to do next??Me too, hard drive 'clicks' and 'knocks' on start up or even just randomly during use. Had a kernel panic too the other day where it didn't find any bootable discs.
I think the HD is on the way out but this system has been fine for years under leopard and windows XP. It began about a week or less after I upgraded to snow leopard and windows 7.
Similar problems seem to have been reported many times before albeit under slightly different conditions yet no fix is forthcoming from Apple yet it seems. -
Re: iMac suddenly very slow only on start up
OSX 10.9.5 on my imac takes over 2 minutes to boot!?!?!?
What I notice in the below, is that flipvideo is no longer on my system and skype has been uninstalled.
I have searched for com.skype.c2c_service.plist but it is not on my system. How do I get rid of it?

Today, WebDav became suddenly very slow on my iMac running the latest version of Mavericks. Yesterday everything was OK.
When I try WebDav from my iPad things are OK, so I suspect something is wrong on my iMac. I already tried rebooting and resetting PRAM and VRAM.
Does anyone have a good suggestion?Hello,
Check to see how much free disk space there is. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
Check the hard disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.

Imac 8,1 Suddenly very slow
Hello all,
Last wednesday (ordinary day like all others) i was surfing the web. My wireless keyboard gave me a low battery warning. I got up get 2 fresh batteries and replace them. from that moment on the iMac got really slow.
I restarted the computer. Turns out it took 15 minutes to completely restart. It took 5 minutes to show the Apple logo at startup, 5 minutes for the blue screen and 5 minutes to load my desktop completely. I restarted the computer again. This time instead of the Apple logo it shows a folder icon with a question mark. I restarted again and it took its 15 min tu startup. I tried to do some last minute backup but with the slowness of the computer it would have taken more than 3 days according to finders calculations.(For a 400Mb transfer).
I did a SMC reset. Idid an RVRAM reset. Idid a disk utility scan. Even used Applejacks. Nothing helped.
Did a clean install of the Mac OSX. No help whatsoever. It starts up a little faster.( maybe 10min total). At after startup finder opens up quickly at first. After a while opening any program will make the icon bounce on the dock for 5 minutes before starting up.
I love this computer. (even-though I also have a 21.5' Imac). I would really like to know if someone out there knows what this problem is.
Thank you in advance.
Jurgen CelestijnRedo the SMC and PRAM resets using the following instructions. You can also try Repairing Disk Permissions (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility) and finally run Apple Hardware Test in Extended mode to see if there are any hardware issues.
*SMC RESET*
• Shut down the computer.
• Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
• Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
• Release the power button.
• Attach the computers power cable.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.
*PRAM RESET*
• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time. -
Using Express and Extreme - Suddenly very slow.
I've got a Mac Pro (2009) with 10.6.8. It's hooked up to an Airport Express.
In another room I've got an iMac hooked up to an Airport Base Station. That's where my modem for the internet is.
I've had no trouble for a year but suddenly the Mac Pro is running VERY slow. I got the latest firmware but didn't change anything.
The Airport utility says "This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this AirPort wireless device and might improperly configure the device."
I went to download the update but it's for system 10.7 and up.
I don't want to update now because I'd have to update too many programs and plugins.
Any ideas why it's suddenly slow?Your Netgear router, most likely, doesn't support DD-WRT, and therefore will not work in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). You might want to consider substituting your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) for the Netgear to be used as the main base station and your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as the remote base station in a WDS configuration.
