IMac super slow

In the last few weeks my iMac has become super slow.  Lots of spinning beach balls.  Reinstalled Mavericks.  Used Disk Utilities to verify and repair permission and verify disk. OnyX to clean up some issues.  Minimized start Login items.  Cleaned up old apps I wasn't using.  Emptied Trash.  Only one item on Dashboard.
Installed Etrecheck and have included the output.  I'm hoping someone can help me out, before I do a clean install.
EtreCheck version: 1.9.15 (52)

  • Brand new iMac: super slow web browsing

Brand new iMac is super slow while browsing the web.
We have cable internet, and the iMac is connected via ethernet cable to an Airport Extreme router. We have a Windows machine connected to the same router.
The Windows machine loads web pages extremely quickly, the iMac takes 20 seconds to a minute to load anything.
Clearly there is a settings problem on the iMac. No idea what.
    It isn't the router.
    It isn't the broadband connection.
    It isn't the DNS server.
    Please help!

I'm not sure if you understood my original post, however, I will re-iterate it here.
I have several machines connected to the same network.
    MacBook Pro
    Windows machine
    iMac.
Only the iMac exhibits any problems.
Clearly, the ISP is not the issue. The iMac is connected via Ethernet to the same router as the PC.
Clearly the Mac is the problem.
Changing DNS server has no effect.

  • IMac super slow and now will NOT boot up

My iMac G5 (non-intel, non-isight) has been slow for a few days. I've tried to isolate it to an application but couldn't really find anything. We didn't install any new applications before it started slowing down.
So I ran software update, installed 10.4.8, shut down, and then it never restarted! It goes to the gray screen with the Apple mark and the little circle loading indicator. But it gets stuck there.
Apple Care is closed for the weekend so I need help. Help!

  • My Imac super slow

I have a new imac OS  X running snow leopard 10.6.6. It's "dail-up" slow. I have Road Runner highspeed. It just started this yesterday. It was fine the night before and all of a sudden the next morning.... slow, slow, slow. This has happened before a few months ago. It was a problem with the DNS settings. I typed in 208.67.222.220 and 208.67.220.220 for the DNS as instructed by a community member and Bingo, the speed was back and I was back in action until yesterday. The numbers I typed into the DNS are still present, so what can it be??? Help-Please. I don't understand.

Besides Carolyn's great advice, at this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • IMac Super Slow - Beach Ball of Death always spinning

I am new to all this.  My iMac is on a wireless network at home and has been running uber slow.  I checked under Activity Monitr and see that the pie Chart under the System Memory tab, has a small green sliver of available memory.  there is a HUGE red portion which says Wired: Total amount of physical memory that cannot be paged to disk.
What the heck does that mean?  How do I see what is contained there and I can I delete some of it?  The only thin running is my printer, mouse (wireless) keyboard and Time Machine back-up up disk.
    I appreciate any help.
    Ann

How much free space do,you have left on your startup drive?
Select the drive icon, on your desktop, then hold the command-I keys on your keyboard to bring up the info pane for your startup drive.
It sounds to me like you need more RAM memory.
Your iMac can take a max. RAM amount of 6 GBs.

  • Late 2009 imac super slow virgin media WiFi

    Hi All,
    I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on a late 2009 iMac 27"
A few onths back I had issues with WiFi dropping off, these issues appeared to have returned.
I did find a driver roll back page that helped me last time round but can no longer find it
In addition to this I have the following problem as well.
I am sitting here in front of my Mac and also have a Win 7 HP laptop.
    I am running speedtest.net on them both pinging the same servers for a speedtest and the results are;
    Virginmedia 30Mbps connection:
    Imac
    ping 27ms
    Download 14.24Mbps
    Upload 2.7Mbps
    HP Laptop
    Ping 30ms
    Download 21.29Mbps
    Upload 2.61Mbps
So, in a nutshell my 4 year old £350 laptop is kicking the pants off my £1800 4 year old iMac
Anyone got any ideas as to why this may be?
Both machines are running only safari/chrome respectively, no other internet load is present.
    Thanks in advance.
    Mark..

Mark, have you tried changing the wi fi channel on your router?

  • Imac super slow and hangs up-erasing HD and loading OS X Mav

    Greetings,
My trusty Imac has never had an issue and after 12 hours of trying different options in support I am going to.clean the HD and install OS X Mag. I have no idea if this will even solve the issue, but that is how desperate I am.
I'm assuming this should be somewhat straight forward from.what I have read? If this does not fix it ingress I have to.assume my HD is going bad?
It all.start when I removed CleanMyMac.
    1. I've done the disc repair permissions, virus check, and all other basic procedures. Deleted tons of.files after backing up--music, videos, pics. Took of.programs.not needed.
6 years and never and issue. Not bad.

Do you have an external drive? I suggest you try to clone your drive to save your data or use the external to do a clean install of OS X so you can boot from the clone then wipe the internal drive.
Do you have the original install CDs. Can you download OS X from Mac App Store?
You can try running OS X over your current install from the Recovery Drive to see if that helps.
Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
    Select Reinstall OS X.

  • IMac 27" 3.06GHz 240GB SSD / 2TB WD Black Caviar 16GB SUPER SLOW

Hi Apple or other fellow Apple Users,
I have the iMac 27" 3.06GHz and was on Snow Leopard. Was amazingly snappy and fast but I wanted more.
Upgraded RAM to 16GB and soon the 1TB filled up and was slowing me down.
I took out the optical drive and installed a Runcore 240GB 2.5" SSD with a Caddy holding the drive using the optical bay's connection (with an adapter of course)
Replaced the 1TB with a WD 2TB Black Caviar as my Data drive.
Freshly installed OSX Lion on the 240GB SSD and then moved the Users document folders linked to the 2TB drive.  Apps are installed on the 240GB SSD and Trim support is switched "on".  Ran fine (but not super fast like it should) for awhile but now after some usage, it slows down to the point where typing letters takes about 10 seconds to come out, spining wheel appears virtually everywhere, Flash pages loadings are extremely laggy.
I am a photographer and use Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop CS5 and a load of other graphic applications.  They run quite slow after about 1 hr of usage and then to the point where it's unbearable.
Usually speeds back up after reboot, but then super slow again after some usage.
I believe it has something to do with the Fans that after SSD installtions, causes them to run constantly, so the iMac is constantly cool around 36 degrees and hottest at 41 degrees.
Done Repaired permissions, rebooted to safe mode and have plenty of hd space.  Updated everything and OSX 10.7.2
Any ideas how to speed it back up?
    Thanks

How did you manage to get the SSD and the 2TB drive in your new Imac? OWC said you couldn't update those internal parts. I am too looking to get an Imac 27" but I want to add my own SSD and 2TB drive similar to what you did. did you buy the imac with this set up already from apple? do you have to get the SSD/Harddrive combo from apple to have the parts needed for the replacement? thanks in advance.

  • On my 4 yer old imac when I run aps/programs or on the net with my Itunes runnig everything runs super slow, turn off itunes all runs fast again, any ideas

On my 4 year old imac, when I run aps/programs or on the web "with my Itunes runnig" everything runs super slow, when I turn off itunes all runs fast again.  Note I have upated all software.  Any ideas out their.  Thanks William

2gb of RAM is not a lot for keeping too many apps and the OS running comfortably. Have you tried running with as few apps open as possible at any one time - preferably just the one you are currently using, to see if this improves performance?
Also, you could launch Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder and it'll give you an idea of what is going on memory-wise.

  • Apple IMac running super slow

Help here would be sincerely appreciated,
My IMac is taking more around anhour to boot up with grey apple logo and spinning cog on screen, then finally booted is super slow (maybe 10mins to open an app....even typing has a 5 second lag before text appears)
I can hear a repetitive every 5 second ticking sound from hard drive
I tried verify disc and that seemed ok repair disc permissions found issues that it solved - sorry I didn't make a note of what it moved and sorted.
Is there a way to see if Ram rather than Hard drive is an issue or other suggestions?
    My baby what's happened?
    Thanks in advance

Checked to see how much space is available ??
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
"I can hear a repetitive every 5 second ticking sound from hard drive"
    That's not a good sign.

  • Super slow super drive - iMac 27´i7

Hi! I baught a new iMac 27´ i7 th 27th of December 2011, and the super drive is super slow! It reads 0,1 MBs. How can ifix it?

I have a similiar issue. I bought a new 27" i7 upgraded the RAM too. When I back up DVDs on my older macbook (not a Pro) 13" the drive is much faster. The drive on the iMac is much slower too. You would think a more expensive and much newer iMac would have a faster drive. Starting to think I got a bum drive.

  • Just upgraded to Lion now iMac runs super slow.

Things were running just fine now everything from the internet to iPhoto is running super slow.  It hangs for about 10 seconds then moves on.  Any thoughts on what I can check to clean up performance?
    Thanks,
    Andy

You should look at the Activity Monitor (located in /Applications/Utilities) to see what applications and processes are using up your Mac's resources.
    Best of luck.

  • My iMac is Slow – No Idea Why

    Product name: iMac
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    OS X: 10.9.4
My iMac is fairly new. Perhaps 3 years. All my programs are legal and I really only use my computer in the evening to work on freelance stuff. I feel as though ever since I updated to Mavericks, it's super slow doing the tiniest tasks. I'm a web developer/designer so I use Creative Cloud and often am switching between programs. Programs chug and even opening a browser is slower than it should be.
I've tried a few things to fix this.
    1. I've rebooted my system and I always shut it off at night so it can clear it's cache.
    2. I've disabled all my Google Chrome extensions (I read that that can slow things down)
    3. My desktop is clean with only 3 folders on it.
    4. I run verify disk/repair disk weekly.
    5. I have the majority of my music on iMatch in the cloud and I regularly backup my photos on a hard drive.
    6. All my working files for my work is located on a hard drive.
    7. I unplug my hard drive when it's not in use and I don't work directly on it.
    8. I've disabled most of my, 'open on restart' programs.
When I open Activity Monitor, I always have a billion things running and I don't know if that's normal. I don't know what half the items do or are. This list scrolls beyond what I've shown in the screen shot.
    What is wrong?

Launch the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
    Open Console.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu. Select Show Toolbar if it is not already shown.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's problem.
To do that click the Clear Display button in the Toolbar. All previously displayed log entries will reappear.
Next: Perform whatever actions cause the Mac to exhibit the slow behavior. If the problem is caused by errors logged by the system, the Console window will show them being recorded in system.log.
One or more of them, along with their time stamps, may reveal the reason for the problem you describe.
Copy and paste those log entries in a reply. If hundreds of the same repetitive messages appear, please edit them before posting. There should be no need for more than 100 or so total log entries.
Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information you might consider personal such as your Mac's name. If you do not want that information to appear, delete or obscure it when posting your reply. Leave enough information so that the entries can be deciphered.

  • Wireless on My New MBP super slow

Hi everyone, I just bought a shiny new 15" Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.2, love it except my wireless is super slow when using it on my home network. I know I'm not the first to complain of this and that there are plenty of other threads about it, but I've tried some of the solutions on those thread to no avail. So I'm starting my own, can someone please help, I'm dangerously close to doing something irrational to my MBP. Ok here's a breakdown of my problem:
    -I'm using a Belkin pre N1 router.
-I pay for 10mbs but I'm getting .5mbs using Airport but if I plug in the ethernet I achieve around 9mbs
    -Airport shows a full signal
-My old IMac runs like a stallion on my network using Airport, so does my roommates Vista machine both getting around 8.5mbs
-I've made sure my IMac's and Macbook Pro settings are the same
-I've tried using an open dns, didn't work
-I've change my router from using a WEP to using a WPA, didn't work
-I've tried changing the broadcast signal from 11N/G to just 11N to 11N/G/B to 11G/B to 11B back to 11N/G, when I broadcasted just N wireless speed jump all the way up to 8mbs hooraay!!! until I quit safari and opened it again wireless speed went back to .5mps
-I've tried using every wireless channel 1-11 plus Auto, Again wireless speed jump all the way up to 8mbs hooraay!!! until I quit safari and opened it again wireless speed went back to .5mps
-I've tried doing a special little dance in front of it, didn't work except to make me ready to drop it like its hot this Saturday!!!
Nothing seems to work. I'm making a Apple genus appointment tomorrow but I have a sneaky feeling that it will be fine on their network and they'll tell me it's belkins problem. Which could be the case but why would my IMac and Vista computers work flawless and not my new MacBook. Please, please, please help. Theres plenty of praise for whomever can solve my problem and I can praise like no other. Thanks
    -Jerry-

yup, same here. Brand new, Core i7 Macbook Pro, and my 13" White Core Duo (not even C2D) Macbook kicks its a** on Airport. What's up with that????
I've tried all the previous "fixes" I could find -- wipe and re-install, delete and replace AirPort entry in Network panel, new Location in Network panel, and so on. This is pretty bad... I haven't tried different DNS yet, but I don't see why the DNS should make any difference when my Mac Pro and the old Macbook seem fine with the servers from my ISP.
