IMAC SUPERDRIVE EJECTS Blank DVDs

My Imac Superdrive ejects all blank dvd but can read all movie dvd. Is there anyway to fix it ?

Hi i have the iMac mid 2007, and my superdrive have always been noicy. So i bought an external DVD bruner (samsung) works great, so the interna would not break down. Despite my prudence my internal superdrive are broken now. kjhfhf
Can´t read, can´t write, can´t do nothing.
Several users has hade problems with these drivers, maybe Apple would extend warrent on thise lousy gizmo´s.
Or make the superdrive like a cassette, so just a push on the side of the iMac makes the superdrive "pop out". So you dont have to demolishe the whole computer just to replace it.
Somtime i wish i worked at Apple so i colud show how a knife-grinder sholud be pulled.

My SuperDrive no longer reads blank DVDs, and just ejects them after a few seconds of spinning...
    Specs: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E; Firmware: ZA0E...
The DVD does not remain in the drive long enough to try anything with Disk Utility...
Anyone got a solution that does not involve replacing the drive or re-installing Leopard?

    Again,
i have the same problem as detailed here with DVD -Rs being ejected, this time with a G5 iMac.
    The drive 'spec' is:
    MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846:
    Model: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846
    Revision: FA0G
    Serial Number:
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
    Low Power Polling: Yes
I don't think I've seen any real solution to the problem, other than a full reinstall. However, presumably that just puts the OS back to a previous version which will get over-written with the next automatic update.

  • Superdrive ejects blank DVD-RWs...

Hello folks... I am trying to use some DVD-RWs to back-up some data, but for some reason, my PowerBook G4 (early 2005) just spits them out. It takes DVD-Rs and CD-Rs, CD-RWs without any problems, but it just won't accept the DVD-RWs.
    Any ideas? I hope I didn't just spend $15 on media I can't use.

  • IMac ejects blank DVDs only (plays DVDs, CDs and accepts blank CDs)

I see a lot of threads with a similar theme to my question - but not one that matches it, so have started a new thread.
My iMac will play commercial DVDs, DVDs I have burnt myself and commercial CDs, and will write to blank CD, but ejects blank DVDs (after 5-10 seconds of thinking about it). I have tried a range of blanks (different types and manufacturers). Does anyone have any ideas on this? I'm thinking it's a curious software issue as the superdrive is otherwise functioning perfectly.
    Thanks in advance

This issue is common and does not seem to be confined to any particular iMac model or Optical Drive brand that is used in them. Although it might help to know what iMac you have, what OS X it is running and what program(s) you are using to burn DVDs...?
    1. Try toggling your Blank DVD: Preference, from the current selection to another and then back to "Ask what to do"
    2. Try cleaning the Superdrive with a standard Lens Cleaning Kit.
Example: > Memtek 32020029479 CD and DVD Lens Cleaning Kit: Electronics
    3. Try creating either a burn folder (in Finder) or have your finished project ready to burn (in other App's) and force them to ask for a blank Disc.
    4. Then if you still can not use Blank DVDs, contact Apple Support and make arrangments for a service appointment.

  • IMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also play fine in Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
    Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
    etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers.

  • Ejecting Blank DVD Media

    Hello all,
I have an Intel iMac that has been working great for about a year burning DVDs from iDVD and Disk Utility. I use Verbatim 16x media and always have. Earlier this week while working on a slideshow/video for our swim team; iDVD errored trying to write a disk. No message just stopped and ejected disk. Now, if I insert blank DVD media, it will not mount and ejects after a few seconds. I read something about alignment issues. I've also read that this issue could be related to a firmware/software update.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Leo

did you solve your problem ?
I've got a similar thing ... not exact ..... when I have external media they do not eject except if I use disk utility .... boring since just trashing or clicking the small arrow did it for years and now .... NOT ....
don't know if it's connected, but I've been searching for a why on this for months .... no info coming back to me yet ..... obviously worried if it spells disaster at some point when I am blocked completely

  • My Imac G5 spits blank DVD's out...does not let me burn.

Is there an update I can perform for the DVD drive or something I can do to make this work? The computer accepts blank CD-R's and audio CD's and DVD's but I can get blank DVD's to work. The batch of DVD's is one that I have used in the past and have burned many DVD's from so I can't understand why it stops accepting these.
I also tried a different brand of DVD and it does not accept those as well. Please help. Thank you!

Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.
Make sure the DVDs are not dirty, scratched and/or smudged. Also make sure they are high quality.

  • Drive keeps ejecting Blank DVDs but will read DVD with media in it

I am at loss what to do. Whenever I put in DVD with media in it (including +R), it plays and reads it all just fine. CD data reads no problem too. However, when I put in a Blank DVD, it chugs and ejects it out completely.
Preferences are fine. It says 'Ask What to Do' is set when 'You insert a Blank DVD'
Here was how it started. Previously, I could put in a blank DVD and it would be just fine but I'm having problems burning after the 10.5.6 update. Read in a post somewhere to try resetting your PRAM which I did and now it won't accept the blank DVDs. Everything else is fine.
Would really appreciate ANY help I can get!

Why did my iMac(4GB, 320GB HD, ML stop ejecting dcd/dvds after I installed ML.  The only way I can eject them is to force eject, not of the "normal" means of ejection work.

  • IMac ejects Blank DVD before burning

I'm trying to help my daughter make a DVD on her iMac and every time we hit burn it asks for a DVD and we put one in and it spins it for a few seconds and then spits it back out.
The screen reads: please insert a recordable DVD disk.
It does the same thing if I try to burn a data disk from iTunes.
    Ideas?

Thanks to a very helpful Apple Genius Bar expert, I have just saved over £100. After reading this forum I tried everything suggested to get my superdrive to accept my DVDs and to get my iDVD to produce a slideshow. After two weeks of frustration I took the whole iMac to the shopping mall. The genius reached into the counter draw and held a can of compressed air. After a minute of squirting the air into the dvd slot all my prayers had been answered. He told me that cleaning the drive like this work on about a third of all his clients. I have now bought a can of compressed air from Amazon for £4 and have it ready for the next problem the arises. (I have tried the same technique on the unruly kids, but it does not seem to work on them!)

  • IMac Superdrive thinks my DVD is blank

Hey, I looked around on the forums, but didn't see anything with my specific problem. There have been a couple of disks that I had previously burned with my PowerBook G4 that played on it and other computers. However, when I now try putting it into my new iMac, it thinks it is a blank disc and I have no way of seeing the files on it. It even tells me there are 4.38 GB available, even though there's clearly data on the disk when physically examined.
    Any help??
    Thanks,

i got the same problem now! working fine a couple of days ago and now i cant burn any DVDs anymore. My laptop is 5 months old.. i am getting sick of this laptop, it feels like something is always broken but after awhile (approx. 1 month) an update fixes it, but to destroy something else. So, i guess i will have to wait a month or two until i can burn DVDs again...Seriously, PC Laptops are more stable than this worthless laptop.. and this user forum *** aswell.. no one from Mac reads it and there are not many solutions in here ..only complaints like my message here....

  • A600 Will not eject blank DVD

Is there a manual eject to get the DVD out?  If not, then is there another way to get the DVD to eject?

When you touch the eject "button" on front, do you
hear it trying to eject, or any response?
If the eject "button" on monitor does not work,
the back could be opened up, and drive removed,
then drive opened up and disk removed.
I have had to do this on imacs with slot load optical drive.
There is a hardware replacement guide for that model,
which shows how to open the back, etc.
(Navigate to user manuals and guides using Support
    link at top of page.)
Be aware that the drive may be faulty and need replacement.
If you are not confident doing work on it, find a good repair shop.

  • IMac keeps ejecting a DVD.

Every time I insert a DVD into my iMac it gets ejected. Any suggestions?

While you don't say which model iMac, OS X, or other configuration info, there are several items that may give you some ideas that came up with search terms:
    • 'Mac OS X all DVD discs rejected'
    https://www.google.com/#q=Mac+OS+X+all+DVD+discs+rejected
There are a few items including ones from Apple support community discussions and elsewhere. In some older hardware there may be a few resets or startup keyboard combinations that could help, depending on if the real issue is in the DVD player or some other issue in firmware or software with the computer itself, which may require troubleshooting.
    Hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!
