IMac SuperDrive with Windows 8.1

After installing BootCamp drivers on my iMac 2011 27 inch (Mavericks, Windows 8.1) the internal SuperDrive disappears.
Before installing them I could use the SuperDrive. With Mavericks I haven't any problems with the Drive.
I think there went something wrong with the Apple Drivers.
Can anyone help me?

I am having the same problem. Everything worked great with the 8.1 install, then the superdrive disappeared in Windows only. I tryed the registry command you pasted to the forum, but it too does not work. I open the dos prompt in administrator mode, it says its an invalid command. My machine is a mid 2011 21.5 IMAC 2.7 GHZ 12 GB ram  OSX mavericks.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

  • Can you use a Apple USB Superdrive with Windows

    Hello,
I frequently finding myself wanting to use my Apple USB Superdrive with my work computer but havent had any luck being able to load CDs to play or burn.
If anybody has a solution or information please advise.
Windows XP Pro, Version 2002, Service Pack 3
    Thanks,

It should work, as long as the drive is getting sufficient power.  It is possible that your Windows PC is not providing enough power through the USB port.

  • New iMac 21" with Windows 7 64bit - NIC speed only 100Mbps

Odd issue. I have a new 21" iMac with Windows 7 64bit installed (fresh) but can only get the NIC to transmit at 100/10Mbps. I have another older 20" iMac on the network running Windows XP which is connected at 1Gbps. I've installed the newest Broadcom drivers for the Windows 7 machine but it only connects at the lower speed. I've replaced the CAT5 cable as well. I'm still researching this issue.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It's the inverse. The Late 2012 iMac is only compatible with 64-bit Windows versions in Boot Camp. The main reason is the memory: the iMac comes with 8 GB of memory, and a 32-bit Windows version can only detect 4 GB or less. Also, it's time to upgrade to 64-bit operating systems, that works with both 32 and 64-bit applications.
If you want to use a 32-bit Windows version, the only solution is to install Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, and install Windows in a virtual machine

If this is so important to you take the time to get the exact error message!

  • Cloning iMac drive with Windows Partition

I have a new iMac, OS 10.5.3 with Bootcamp / Windows XP Pro on it as well. I have installed a number of applications and customized settings on both the Mac side and Windows side. I'm looking for the best way to "clone" or "ghost" the entire drive. If I use Norton Ghost, I don't believe that the Mac stuff will stay in tact. Has anyone done this successfully? If so, any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dan

I believe cloning utilities work with volumes, not drives. A partition is a volume. Therefore, I suggest you use a Mac cloning utility (such as +Carbon Copy Cloner+ or SuperDuper ) to clone the Mac partition. And use whatever is the utility for Windows to clone the Windows partition.
You would clone them onto separate volumes of another drive. If you get the same size drive, you can partition/format it the same way and clone from one drive to the respective partition on the other drive.
I've never done this, but that's what I would try to do if I had to do it.

  • Siren Like Noise from SuperDrive with Windows Disc??

Hi, I was attempting to install a program from pinnacle for my Dazzle, but when I inserted the disc my drive made a very strange sound. At first I thought it was coming out of the speakers. It would not let me eject immediately. I tried on Mac and same thing happened, so it was not a driver issue. Surprisingly a DVD ran fine. The disc I was using was not cosmetically damaged.
Not a big deal but very odd:

    http://creganfamily.com/temp/1274727679.mov
it is difficult to hear, I used my iPhone

That does not sound normal at all. The SuperDrives on both my BlackBook and first gen G5 iMac are a little louder than in my PCs, but there is no grating or scratching sound at all.
Are the disks scratched in any way? If so, definately take it in to Apple as there is something wrong. I would probably take it in anyway as I would hate for a disk to get scratched or stuck in there.

  • IMac Problems with Windows 7 SP1

I am having problems with sound and bluetooth mouse and keyboard connecting. In devices i hve the following error

I have done all windows updates and have updated bootcamp to the latest 3.2 version for x64 os.
I am not sure what else to do any help would be appreciated.

I think this is a known or at least common problem. There is another one in the same family with the same problem.
I don't think it affects anything ecxept causing annoying yellow exclamation marks in Device manager and in the Printers and Devices control panel.
You can disable these drivers in Device manager to get rid of the exclamation marks. I found some forum threads about it somewhere but can't recall where.
This is what I have done on both my Win 7 bootcamp installs and noticed no side effects.
I am writing all this from memory so may have got some detail wrong.
EDIT: I see you link the problem to BT mouse and keyboard, but not sure that it is...or may be a different problem.

  • Using external mic with iMac 27 i7 under bootcamp with Windows 7

    Hi,
I've recently got myself an iMac 27" with the i7 upgrade. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 32bit for gaming (Snow Leopard for everything else). I have a headset with two 3.5mm plugs, one for the headphones, one for the mic. I can't get the mic to work (headphones work fine though). I plug it into the line in port (as it's the only other port when the headphones are plugged in) but this doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to get this to work?
I read somewhere that the headphone port on the iMac is a "triband" port, so would work with the headphones provided with the iphone that have 3 bands on it (stereo sound and mic) or something similar...

Two things to try, first make sure your Win7 disk is spotlessly clean, my superdrive regularly spits out even slight smudges. then if that doesn't clear it up here is a maintenance tip with the reset:
As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...
You are now in a perfect position to do a
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.

  • I have an IMac with Windows 7 Ultimate and I want to install Imac sistem operation

How can i backup my Imac operation sistem, i dont like windows anymore!
    thank you kind

It appears that your iMac shipped with OS X 10.6.6 which came on disc. If you have the original grey discs put disc 1 into the superdrive and restart while holding the C key. Choose your language and at the next screen from the menu bar select Disk Utility. Erase and reformat the hard drive and be sure to select Mac OS extended journaled and for the format select GUID partition scheme. Quit Disk Utility and go back to the installer screen and install OS X. Whenit's done run software update to get to 10.6.8 then access the Mac App Store and you can upgrade to Mavericks if you choose.
If you don't have the discs you can use Internet Recovery IF the firmware was upgraded to allow it before someone erased the Mac partition and installed windows. If the firmware wasn't upgraded you'll need to contact Apple and get a set of original install discs.

  • Driver issue with Windows 8.1 on new iMac 2013

Just got a brand new iMac and am attempting to install Windows 8.1 on it. The Boot Camp Assistant kept timing out on the support software download so I downloaded Boot Camp 5.0.5033 from Apple support and put that on my external FAT drive.
I was able to get Windows installed, but when I attempted to run setup.exe off of my external drive, I got a "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model" error. I was able to work around this by running bootcamp.msi from a DOS prompt in administrator mode at which point the install seemed to go through successfully.
Despite that, I'm still getting no love on WiFI, bluetooth, audio, etc. I'm attempting to download again through Boot Camp Assistant on the hope that there's a later version for my machine that's not yet available for direct download but am not optimistic.
Any thoughts/ideas would be great appreciated. Note that I am running the latest everything on the Mac side (recent 10.8.5 Combo).
    Thanks in advance.

Actually, that link is exactly what got me in trouble. Use Boot Camp Assistant to get the drivers.
As of this writing, Boot Camp 5.0.5033 will not adequately set up your drivers on a new iMac with Windows 8.1.
The only way I was able to get the WiFi working was to use the drivers automatically downloaded by Boot Camp Assistant. Presmably this is a newer version than 5.0.5033 but I haven't been able to find it anywhere else for download.
I should also note that I was having some DirectX issues running graphics intensive software even after updating through Boot Camp Assistant. These were resolved by downloading the latest driver for my video card (GeForce 780M). There might be other issues that will require a manual driver update but I've yet to run into any more.
    Best of luck.

If you don't want Boot Camp and you don't want a virtual machine, go buy a Windows computer.
Both Boot Camped Windows and Windows running in a virtual machine work well. Your issues are because of your lack of knowledge or understanding, not because Boot Camp and virtual machines are poor products. Universities, large and small businesses, home users, etc. use virtual machines to run their operating systems.
Your statements about Boot Camp and Parallels are not the experience of thousands of users.
Either find someone who is knowledgeable about running Windows on Apple computers to help you or buy a Windows computer. Believe me, if you find a way to install only Windows on your Apple computer without using Boot Camp or a virtual machine you will have more problems than what you have already experienced.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033 supports Windows 8.1 and can be used with that version. The Mid 2011 iMac is compatible with Windows 8, so you should not have any problem by installing Windows 8.

  • Will Pagemaker 7 work with Windows 7 (on an iMac)?

I'm writing for my dad, 86, who has designed several books in Page Maker 7 on a PC running Windows XP. For his 5th book, he wants to switch to the iMac.
So he got an iMac with the Adobe Creative Suite 3 with InDesign. Unfortunately, despite classes and tutorials, he cannot master inDesign. It's just too difficult. Why does Adobe (and Microsoft Office and all the developers) feel the need to keep making the programs more difficult, but then flat out lie by saying they're actually easier?
So he's still using the pc with Page Maker and going back and forth from mac to pc for this photo or that font, and it's annoying and complicated.
How about this for a solution: What if I were to install Parallels and put Windows 7 on the iMac, and run Page Maker 7 there.
    Here are my questions:
Is the Page Maker 7 on his pc (which was installed several years ago) the same Page Maker 7 Adobe is offering here now?
Of course he can't FIND his original Page Maker 7 disks, so we have to purchase new ones.
Is he eligible for an upgrade price from Adobe, since he owns the earlier Page Maker and a full version of CS3?
Will the current Page Maker 7, available on the Adobe website, be compatible with Windows 7?
What other pitfalls am I likely to encounter by trying to do this?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer,
    Monica

Hello Monica. My replies in order:
    Yes.
    Of course.
Almost completely sure that he is, if he has his complete serial number.
In theory, most definitely no. In practice, there are reports of successful instalations, almost always with some (or many) shortcomings.
    Almost anything.
