Hello,
I have a iMac G3 266 Mhz. 6 Gb hard drive, 190 Mb RAM, actually my iMac run OS 9.2
I buy a new hard drive 80 Gb (ATA), and I will change it the next month.
I look to upgrade to OS X. Jaguar, Panther, Tiger.
Which of these is better to my iMac?
In this machine the maximum RAM is 256 Mb.

Please update your firmware (link) to version 1.2 now. It's very important before installing any version of OS X.
When you install the hard disk you must partition it. The first partition must be a little less than 8Gb to take OS X. The remainder can be a single partition.
Panther (10.3.9) is the maximum that your iMac will support. I believe it is the best to go for as it will give you the best compatibility.
The Maximum RAM for the iMac 266MHz is actually 512Mb. I would recommend upgrading to this to run Panther.

I opened the hard drive and from the column on the left of the menu I've selected "search for" and under that " all images" then "all documents" I've deleted a few files from each. You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Delete any other mail in your Junk folders. Also, look through your Sent Mail to see if there is anything that can be deleted.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

I can't seem to purchase this on-line as it keeps telling me to go to the app store. I haven't got the app store on my computer as I am told I need iCloud for which I need the new operating system, which I can't download or purchase as I am sent back to an instruction telling mee to go to the app store icon.
How difficult can it be to simply purchase the software on-line have it shipped to you so you can install it, in the event it cannot be downloaded as it appears it can't be based on my curent operating systems being Mac OSX 10.5.8.

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit. ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering. I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.

Im not able to use internet sharing on my iMac 8.1 using Mac OS X 10.6.8, I tried internet sharing with OS Lion and it works fine. Has anybody else experience this problem and what was the solutions.

If your OS is OS X 10.4.11 then you should be able to install iTunes 8.1 which according to the iTunes page requires 10.4.10 or later (which is a lower version than yours). It also requires QuickTime 7.5.5 so check your version of QuickTime. Version 10.4 is Tiger by the way. Leopard is 10.5 and Panther was 10.3.
Make sure that your OS is at the version you think it is. Connect your MacBook to the internet and from your desktop go to the Apple symbol on the Finder bar at the top of your screen. Choose "About This Mac" and check your OS version. Also from the same menu choose Software Update and see if you are offered any updates for your computer. If it does offer an OS X update, install it and anything else in the list then run software update again to see if any more components are offered for the new version.

Problems with FileVault 2 on my iMac mid 2007 with Mac OS LION on it

Hi guys !
Get a problem with FileVault 2 on my iMac mid 2007 with MAC OS LION on it. FileVault 2 works, but after rebooting my system, it was unpossible to select an account with the cursor of my trackpad. No chance.
Before activate Filevault 2 the trackpad works fine. No problems to select an account. Anybody else with the same problem ?

I checked out your solution, but.... sorry it doesn't works.
So I cut off the bluetooth connection of the magic trackpad from my iMac and pair it again, but the problem is the same.
May be it's bigger bug with LION, so I need an update for this function.

If you are syncing using iCloud, try going to System Preferences/iCloud (computers) and checking Safari. If it is checked, try deselecting it, wait 10-15 seconds, and then check it again.

Unable to Update software on an iMac Tangerine DV (400 Mhz) -

Hello guys,
I´ve recently been given a iMac DV (they were doing a backroom clearance in my office) and I have decided to upgrade it and update it in order to be able to run mac ox X.
Right now it´s running OS 9.0 . I know I have to do the firmware update 4.1.9 , and before that I´m suppossed to update the system at least to 9.2.
I´ve tried to install those updates I´ve downloaded from the apple website, but it have been impossible.
When trying to run the" Update.smi" on the mac os 9 I always receive an error type "-39". After downloading several times and trying different versions, I realized there was nothing wrong with that file.
Later on I opened the smi (I mounted the image on my MBP) and copied all the files into a folder. When trying to open them in the OS 9, they are not recognized and I´m prompted with the "wich application should open this file".
Summing up..... I reached a point where I have no clue on what to do to be able to update the system.
Any help on this issue will be really appreciated.

You need to figure out the level of your firmware before installing 10.2 or greater. ( The PC name for firmware is BIOS. ) Installing 10.2 with a down level firmware will most likely make your iMac unusable and difficult to fix.
Figuring out what level of firmware you have?
1) Mac OS 9.x or 8.x, you need to use the Apple System Profiler.

2) Mac OS X, use the System Profiler.

3) Open Firmware, boot into Open Firmware.

I need help to take decision to choose between iMac Late 13 and Mac Mini Late 12

I have currently got iMac 27 3.2 GHz mid 2010 and since I am a photographer it unfortunately dosn't meet my requirments at all! It has recently become too slow and that is why I have taken my decision to purchase a new desktop to improve!
I was intensely awaiting new Mac Mini Late 2013 at Apple 22 Oct event yet no new Mac Mini came up for upcoming year! Now I am very skeptical to choose between to options; iMac Late 2013 and Mac Mini Late 2012! Since having high performance is really essential for me, I am going to tune up my device with 2 Samsung 840 PRO SSD and 16GB RAM to take advantage of the best possible performance.
Since I can easily utilise my iMac 2010 27" as display for Mac Mini, please instruct me which on I should buy or I have to be more patient for next Mac Mini!

I am not sure how you are planning to "easily utilise my iMac 2010 27" as display for Mac Mini" I am concerned that might not work out nearly as well as you might think. I have seen that attempted by others and the results were pretty clunky and could easily wipe out any anticipated speed gains. Be sure and talk to someone who uses an iMac as a display for another computer before you spend any money.
That said, if I were in your shoes I would either go with a current top end iMac or a maxed out, top end Mac mini and a 27" Thunderbolt monitor. You will end up spending about the same either way. You can save a few hundred dollars buying factory refurbished machines from the online Apple Store or Smalldog.com but you take your choice of what is available and don't expect it to be there tomorrow.

Macs mit PPC processor (G4 oder G5) können nicht leider nicht einmal auf Leopard 10.5.8 upgegradet werden.
