Imac = text is too small

So I bought a nice big iMac 27 thinking it would be great for content - clear, clean text.
What I have is something that displays great images - but when it comes to typing, text, emails, working in many applications it is one big dissapointing strain.
The issue is the size of text. It is often tiny.
I make this complaint as someone who has been to the opticians and des not need glasses.
Yes I know I can (whilst in someprograms/web) use cmd +.
But I am unhappy there is no one setting for accessibility - allowing me to set up the standard size of text across software platforms.
The danger is eye strain, neck strain and poor user experience. Why have apple created this large display only to force us to peer at tiny objects within it. Where is the support for people who have disability or poor eyesight? Where is the cmmon sense?
I would appreciate a fix that does not involve me messing with my screen resolution. Without this I will be forced to retrun my Mac as Microsoft do not force their users to strain over text.

Welcome to Apple Communities!
I had the same issues with my 27-inch iMac and now have it sorted:
<> Go to System Preferences > Displays and make sure the "Displays" tab is selected
<> Select "Scaled" if you are running higher than Mac OS 10.6.8. A number of resolution options will be displayed.
<> Select the resolution setting 1920x1080 and close system preferences. This give me--Mr. Weak Eyes--plenty of desktop real estate but the fonts are larger yet still sharp.
Individual programs and web sites may override this but they usually have a font size setting that lets you make things bigger.
Without this I will be forced to return my Mac as Microsoft do not force their users to strain over text.
New Windows computers fitted with new big displays are just as bad about this. That;s why both systems offere personalization settings like the ones I gave you.
A couple of tips:
1) Apple does not patrol these forums other than to keep the wheels from falling off and to break up any virtual fist-fights. Everyone here are end-users like you. To get feedback directly to Apple, use one of these links:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html
or
http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
2) Your OS is listed in your profile as iOS 6.1.4. This is not a Mac computer OS, just for iDevcies. If you change your profile to reflect the MacOS X version shown when you do Apple Menu > About this Mac... you will get help faster for future quesitons becasue those offereing help won't have to burn a post in asking what OS version you have.

  • Photoshop CC icons and text are too small: how to adjust so they're readable? [was: Joanne]

I have just downloaded Creative Cloud on a new computer.  The new photoshop icons and text are too small for me to see or work with.  I cannot seem to adjust this so its "useable"

    Hey Bob,
Ive put feature requests for this in before and I know many others have as well. Is there any way to see if Adobe is actually working on this? I dont really consider this a feature request, it should be standard with the software. A feature request would be something like creative cloud libraries, not the ability to make font sizes and icons bigger.

  • U/I is a small window + preference can't be seen on imac the popup too small

When the T-Bird opens within the 21" iMAC is the Yellowstone OS, it is a small window and I have to manually enlarge.....and when I go to the preferences the popup is too small plus can't move the window information to read, in spite of the font being large enough. The popup is static in size so I can't enlarge it. Since the version installed, in the past three weeks, can't be found due to this problem. Sorry, can make it take a screen shot for you.
My question then is: will there an update soon or will I need to switch to another?

  • Text displays too small in mail app

    Help!
I just received the 15" MacBook Pro with enhanced resolution screen (not the Retina display).  At the highest resolution, all of the fonts display incredibily small.  However, the lower resolution options don't seem to match the aspect ratio of the screen and create distortion.  I can deal with this on Safari because it allows pinch and zoom resizing.  However, I have not figured out how to zoom in on the Mail app.  Using Command + is not a good solution because it actually increases the font size that the recipient views.  I have to go all the to 30pt font to make it comfortable to view.  Also, using Control and two finger swipe to zoom in a poor option as well because not everything will display.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe that you are having a problem with emails sent in html format from certain contacts.  I had the same problem, and I found this to fix it:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. Open the Terminal and type in the following:
    defaults write com.apple.mail MinimumHTMLFontSize 12
    3. Restart Mail.app and your HTML messages are readable.
You don't have to choose 12 point. Select whatever you like.

  • Using Adobe Photoshop CS 5.5. Menu and text are too small on my 4k Display.

I am running Adobe Photoshop CS 5.5 on my windows 8.1 laptop with 4K display. Where is the option to increase the size of menu and font? The menu looks fine on my mac book pro retina display at work, so I know it has to be possible. Please help.

You can go to Edit>Preferences>Interface>UI Font size and increase the font size a little.  Whether that will make any difference on a 4K display I don't know.  CC 2014 has an option ("Experimental") to increase the UI size by 200% for high density displays.  Sorry - not much help.

  • Some text in pdf is too small

We received a pdf file that has been scanned from image files. The document is 23 x 30 inches. When I print to letter size paper most of the text is fine however some of the text is too small to read. Is there a way to make the text size larger for these few sentences?

Select it with the touchup text tool, right click, choose"properties>text".

  • How can I get text printed out larger? It prints too small to read.

I have an hp psc 1610 all-in-one printer. When I print articles from the internet the text is too small. The options to change size only seem to affect the screen size, not the printer size. It prints fine in my word processor, etc.

    File > Page Setup > '''Scale''' <br />
100% or Shrink to Fit is usually the best.

  • Comments font is too small

    Hello,
I've installed Acrobat DC and opened a PDF with comments.
When looking at the list of comments, it looks good and the font size is good,
    BUT!
When double clicking the comment in comments bar in order to copy the comment, the font becomes too small.
The same PDF that it's comments font looked good under Acrobat X has become too small in Acrobat DC.
I know that there was never an option to make all comments fonts bigger and that you can go to each comment and enlarge it text, but it is not reasonable to do it for 200 comments.
    This is very disturbing.
Is there a way to fix it?
    All the best
    Shlomit

    Hello
Thank you for your answer but this is not what I asked and it doesn't solve my problem.
I'm not talking about comments I create.
I'm talking about comments proof readers are creating for me.
Most of them use Reader and most of them use the default settings for the comment text.
I am the graphic designer who needs to fix the proof reader comments. I need to copy the text of the comment, and for that I need to double click it. When double clicking to comment, the text becomes too small. It has nothing to do with the size you set in preferences as this size refer the the comments text view when they are closed (without double clicking it in order to copy the fixed word or words) and not about the content of the comment. It even written in prefs "Comment view" and not "Comment content"///
    Look at the attached screenshot.
I hope my question is clearer now.
Now, how do I change the font size of all 370 comments I have in my document so when I double click the comment I can see the font in a bigger font size?
I don't believe there is a way to do it. There was never a way.
I read here that there is nothing to do in old versions, seems like in the new version its the same. So the news are still sad as one of your stuff said in his answer...
I do hope I'm wrong, this is a serious issue for me.
    all the best,
    Shlomit

  • Font in Help Viewer too small, does not enlarge

In OSX Lion on my new MBP 15" Retina, the Help Viewer text is too small, and it won't change when I use the menu or Cmd + to change it.
Images in Help Viewer get big or small, as they're supposed to, but the text remains the same size.
    Can you help?

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

  • Preview problems - window too small, etc

On Preview, I tinkered with the setting and now a new window opens in very small window and when I press zoom on a screenshot instead of the perfect resolution images like previously (65% zoom), it goes up to 75% and is blurry.
    How can I fix this?

The text size is dependent on the text size set in IE7 when
    you open HS.
If the preview text is too small, increase the text size in
    IE under
    VIEW-TEST SIZE.

  • UI text too small

Is there a way to make the text in the UI larger? The default size is too small and strains the eyes.

but doesn't that make it system wide ??? not just for aperture ???
it was intended as a tool to use by those that are legally blind to zoom any part of the os, we use it every day as a teaching/demoing tool.
you can also zoom into a photo or video without creating artifacts/pixelation which the normal zoom tool does on many apps
i suppose you could just change it back and forth ...
apple option 8 -- toggles it on and off, or you can use one "Butler" hot key for it http://www.manytricks.com/butler/

  • Default text size in Compressor is too small for normal human eye

Is there any way to change the text size in Compressor 4 in the windows?  I can't find any.
The normal default text size is way too small for any normal human being eye to read clearly.
Please, have mercy on us, whoever designed the tiny fonts!   Not fair to the rest of us . . .

Well, guess we folk with not-too-good vision will simply have to keep on trucking the best we can, eh?   We can't enlarge text, so as a result we can't  use software like Compressor like the rest of the population.  Sad to say, especially with a company like Apple . . .
Yeah, well I gave the Apple Compressor Team my feedback, just like I've done the last 3 months with other things, then of course the feedback from us all melts into the either, and we never really know if anyone reads it, like they say.  Me thinks not.  This is the only feedback I'll ever get, I'm afraid:
