Imac to AV receiver configuration question.

I recently upgraded my AV receiver from a really old old Yamaha 530 to Yamaha RV 375. This one has nice shiny HDMI connections.
The problem is that my iMac (Early 2010) doesn't output audio through the minidisplay HDMI connection. Earlier I was routing the HDMI (picture only) directly into TV and using Airfoil to push audio through Airport Express to the AV receiver.
Now my TV has only one HDMI input which I have connected to the AV reciever. How can I get video and audio out of my iMac without having to switch cables every time I change devices?

Check the owner's manual for your RX-V375.  Page 24 describes how to tie an HDMI video input to the AV5 or Audio 1-2 inputs.

  • SAP-JEE, SAP_BUILDT, and SAP_JTECHS and Dev Configuration questions

    Hi experts,
I am configuring NWDI for our environment and have a few questions that I'm trying to get my arms around.
I've read we need to check-in SAP-JEE, SAP_BUILDT, and SAP_JTECHS as required components, but I'm confused on the whole check-in vs. import thing.
I placed the 3 files in the correct OS directory and checked them in via the check-in tab on CMS.   Next, the files show up in the import queue for the DEV tab.  My questions are what do I do next?
    1.  Do I import them into DEV?  If so, what is this actually doing?  Is it importing into the actual runtime system (i.e. DEV checkbox and parameters as defined in the landscape configurator for this track)? Or is just importing the file into the DEV buildspace of NWDI system?
    2.  Same question goes for the Consolidation tab.    Do I import them in here as well?
    3.  Do I need to import them into the QA and Prod systems too?  Or do I remove them from the queue?
    Development Configuration questions ***
    4. When I download the development configuration, I can select DEV or CON workspace.  What is the difference?  Does DEV point to the sandbox (or central development) runtime system and CONS points to the configuration runtime system as defined in the landscape configurator?  Or is this the DEV an CON workspace/buildspace of the NWDI sytem.
    5.  Does the selection here dictate the starting point for the development?  What is an example scenarios when I would choose DEV vs. CON?
    6.  I have heard about the concept of a maintenance track and a development track.  What is the difference and how do they differ from a setup perspective?   When would a Developer pick one over the over?
    Thanks for any advice
    -Dave

    Hi David,
"Check-In" makes SCA known to CMS, "import" will import the content of the SCAs into CBS/DTR.
    1. Yes. For these three SCAs specifically (they only contain buildarchives, no sources, no deployarchives) the build archives are imported into the dev buildspace on CBS. If the SCAs contain deployarchives and you have a runtime system configured for the dev system then those deployarchives should get deployed onto the runtime system.
    2. Have you seen /people/marion.schlotte/blog/2006/03/30/best-practices-for-nwdi-track-design-for-ongoing-development ? Sooner or later you will want to.
    3. Should be answered indirectly.
    4. Dev/Cons correspond to the Dev/Consolidation system in CMS. For each developed SC you have 2 systems with 2 workspaces in DTR for each (inactive/active)
    5. You should use dev. I would only use cons for corrections if they can't be done in dev and transported. Note that you will get conflicts in DTR if you do parallel changes in dev and cons.
    6. See link in No.2 ?

  • Connecting iMac to stereo receiver

I am trying to figure out the best way to connect my iMac to a stereo receiver. Which option will result in superior sound on my home stereo: (1) running a TOSLINK cable from the iMac's optical digital audio out port to the receiver's optical input or (2) connecting the iMac to the receiver using a USB DAC?
    Thanks for your help.

I do not agree. The headphone amp outputs a conventional two channel analog signal on the multi-purpose 3.5 mm audio output jack on all Intel iMacs. But that same jack outputs a digital optical signal if the iMac senses a mini-Toslink adaptor plug has been inserted instead of an analog stereo TRS (tip ring sleeve) plug.
IOW, the same jack furnishes two entirely different kinds of output (analog or digital) depending on what is plugged into it. The digital output encodes the audio (which could consist of multiple channels of audio) on a single beam of digitally modulated light. The analog output is two separate signals, each on its own electrical conductor, derived from the internal DAC in the iMac & amplified by the amp to provide enough power to drive headphones.
It is possible that the amp does double duty to also drive the light source for the digital output, but that is in no way is comparable to using it to drive headphones -- for the digital output all it would have to do is switch the light level between the digital high & low states.
My guess is that whoever told you about the headphone amp either did not know about the dual function of the jack or thought you were talking about an analog connection to your stereo.

If you have music that was purchased on different iTunes accounts than the one you use, then you must provide the password, otherwise the tunes are not considered yours.  You can turn off iCloud and just use the usual USB sync method.  But I wonder whether you'll have the same problem?

  • BPM newbie configuration question

    Hi,
I have modelled a simple process using the BPM modeller. The process is using abstract interfaces for receiving and sending information. Now I would like to configure the process. I have successfuly managed to import the process into the configuration builder. I don't want to use an integration scenario. Could anybody explain me how to map my abstract interfaces to concrete communication channels, since the interfaces don't appear in sender/receiver configuration?
    Thank you and kind regards,
    Heiko

    Hi Heiko,
in the dialog to select interfaces the interface direction is preset as selection criteria in the upper section of the screen. To be able to see your abstract interfaces, delete this criteria and press search button. Then the list will contain all interfaces available for the system you have selected and you'll be able to use your abstract interfaces as inbound as well as outbound interface.
    best regards

  • BGP Notification received, configuration change

    Hi,
We are  monitoring a BGP peering flap for a fraction of seconds approximately every three days for a particular neighbor. We are seeing this behavior consistently for a Month.
Jun 10 08:55:15.566 NST: bgp[1041]: %ROUTING-BGP-5-ADJCHANGE : neighbor x.x.x.x Down - BGP Notification received, configuration change (VRF: default)
Jun 10 08:55:15.565 NST: bgp[1041]: %ROUTING-BGP-5-NBR_NSR_DISABLED_STANDBY : NSR disabled on neighbor x.x.x.x on standby due to BGP Notification received (VRF: default)
Would like to know what does the error messge indicates  "BGP Notification received, configuration change"

There might be a clue in the bgp trace on the device that experienced this condition:
show bgp trace and look around the time of the notification down.
Depending on what is on the other side, I think that hte investigation is better done on that node as that was the originator of the change hence bringing the peer down.
This can be as simple as an address family add or remove, things like that. When capabilities of a peer change, they have to bring down the peering since they are only sent in the OPEN message.
IF it is very periodic, I would also verify and check what might be happening during those time windows, especially on the peer. Maybe there is a config script that could induce things.
If that peer is an XR device, the bgp trace will be very helpful in that regard.
If itis an IOS device, then maybe you need to keep running some debug bgp event for around the time that you expect this flap, and a syslog analysis (sh log) around that time for clues.

  • Configuration question on css11506

    Hi
One of our vip with 4 local servers, currently has https. the http is redirected to https.
Now, my client has problem which a seriel directories need use http, not https. some thing like. quistion:
         1. If there is any possible, I can configure the vip to filter the special directories and let them to use http not https. and rest pages and directories redirect to https?
         2. If not, I can make another vip to use same local servers, but, is possible to only limited to special directories? and with wild code? some like the directories are partially wild coded, something like, http://web.domain/casedir*/casenumber?
         3. if not on both option, is any way I can fix this problem?
    Any comments will be appreciated
    Thanks in advance

I run my Tangosol cluster with 12 nodes on 3
machines(each machine with 4 cache server nodes). I
have 2 important configuration questions. Appreciate
if you can answer them ASAP.
    - My requirement is that I need only 10000 objects to
be in cluster so that the resources can be freed upon
when other caches are loaded. I configured the
<high-units> to be 10000 but I am not sure if this is
per node or for the whole cluster. I see that the
total number of objects in the cluster goes till
15800 objects even when I configured for the 10K as
high-units (there is some free memory on servers in
this case). Can you please explain this?
It is per backing map, which is practically per node in case of distributed caches.
    - Is there an easy way to know the memory stats of
the cluster? The memory command on the cluster
doesn't seem to be giving me the correct stats. Is
there any other utility that I can use?
Yes, you can get this and quite a number of other information via JMX. Please check this wiki page for more information.
I started all the nodes with the same configuration

Airport Express (the small Airport device, which is the only one with an audio connection) works through Airtunes, which only works with iTunes. The computer won't send ALL system sound to the Airport. If you actually want to send sound outside of iTunes, use Airfoil.

  • IMessage on iMac not reliably receiving photos

iMessage on iMac not reliably receiving photos but my iPhone and iPad are-what's the fix for this?

    Hi,
I've been with the same problem for a couple of days, until finally today Messages simply stopped showing even a the window, so absolute inability to use it.
Considering that reinstalling the operating system is NOT a solution, I searched for something myself.
Pictures are controlled by xpcd, imagent and Messages, and it seems that when the problem arises is because they're using the wrong Apple server.
While this may be solved by Apple in a update (I hope so), in the meantime you can do a workaround (it worked for me on two different machines, and even days old images appeared).
In your Library, there is a folder called Preferences (that is /Users/<your_username>/Library/Preferences). There you should delete com.apple.imagent.plist com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist and com.apple.imessage.bag.plist, with Messages CLOSED. Then reboot so Messages creates new ones. Also delete all file starting with com.apple.imagent, com.apple.imservice, com.apple.imessage and com.apple.iChat that end in .lock.
If even then it still is not working, deleting all files starting with com.apple.imagent, com.apple.imservice, com.apple.imessage and com.apple.iChat 100% for sure. But when you reboot you'll find you need to input again your login data for iMessage, FaceTime, Yahoo chat, AIM chat, Google Talk and Jabber (if you used them on Messages/iChat).
This is an annoyance, but less than a whole operating system reinstall or losing the functionality.
After all of this is done you should regain the ability to receive photos, send photos and drag&drop photos. Also if your Messages app only shows the menubar and no window at all, the same procedure solves it.

  • IMac g3 blinking folder with Question Mark

    Hi everyone,
I bought an IMac g3 at a tag sale and plugged it in and when it started up a screen with a folder with the picasso face and question mark was blinking. I cannot get past this screen even after resetting the pram.
I think my IMac g3 was made in the Summer of 2001 and is the grey/Graphite color and has a slot loading disk drive.
Does anyone know what I should do next?
    Thank you for your help!

You do not need 9.x to check your firmware. See below. I'd go with 10.4 if you have the correct firmware.
There are some CD versions of tiger.
    http://store.fastmac.com/productinfo.php?productsid=111
Texas Mac Man tells how to find a Tiger disc:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11117872#11117872
You could buy an external DVD drive. It needs to be firewire and bootable by Mac OS. If you have another PPC with firewire, you could try target Disk mode and installed tiger that way.
You need to figure out the level of your firmware before installing 10.2 or greater. ( The PC name for firmware is BIOS. ) Installing 10.2 with a down level firmware will most likely make your iMac unusable and difficult to fix.
    What is firmware?
The firmware software receives control when you poweron your machine. It does some hardware testing and some hardware configuration then passes control to your version of Mac OS. It reside on a PROM ( program read only memory ) chip on the logic board.
Figuring out what level of firmware you have?
Open Firmware, boot into Open Firmware.
Power on your iMac while holding down commandoption+of
The first output line contains the firmware level. Mine reads:
    Apple PowerMac4,1 4.1.9f1 BootRom built on 09/14/01 at 13.18.04
    Copyright 1994-2001 Apple Computer Inc.
On my machine, I have 4.1.9f1.
    What firmware do you need?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
For a slot loading iMac, this article indicates that you need to be running 9.1 or later version of Mac OS Classic.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75130
"The iMac Firmware Update 4.1.9 will only run on iMac computers with lot-loading CD or DVD drives running Mac OS 9.1 or later from a local drive. If you are using Mac OS X you must boot from a local Mac OS 9.1 or later writeable partition (not a CD, or network disk) prior to following the update instructions."
You can download the Mac OS 9 updates from the Apple site.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1387?viewlocale=en_US
For tiger, you need 256meg of memory.
Mac OS X 10.4: System requirements
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1514
There is no need to partition. You can save hard drive space by doing a custom install. Leave out the print drivers you do not need and the languages you do not need. Doing so you will need about three gigabytes of space.

I tend to think dashboard is neat, but not neccesary for my everyday workflow.
it is possible to enable and disable it as needed,
by entering the following commands into the terminal:
    #To turn Dashboard off:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
    #To turn Dashboard on:

  • Reverting to G4 whilst imac in for repair - and questions

My intel Imac is having to go in for diagnostic work. So, I'm having to use the trusty old G4 in the meantime. My question is this: I have a cloned system of the intel mac on an external HD, but that is a cloned system of Leopard. So I won't be able to boot onto that from the G4 which is on 10.4.11 - is that right? I'm a bit unsure as to how it works when you log into an external drive.
My G4 has a tiny internal HD of only 35GB, so I was finding it hard to make large pdfs which I have to do for work sometimes, is there any way round that? ie can I save anything i'm pdfing to the external HD, which is 1TB so plenty of space there. All the images (which are large) are stored and I can access on the external HD.
I'm just trying to work all this out in my mind before I take the big mac in which will probably be tomorrow, hope it won't be gone long but you never can tell. Any input will be gladly received.
    Cheers, Kate

It would really be a matter of exporting the database rather than the whole application. I don't use either so I am not sure on the details. It will also depend upon how much change may have been made between the two OS versions. Sometimes the main changes are to the applications themselves and not the databases, in which case it works. If the Leopard version has changed how the database is formatted then the earlier OS can't use it.

  • IMac connection to PC wireless question

Hello, so far my iMac setup has been a breeze but I am stuck at connecting to the Internet. I go through the process of wireless conecting and try to connect to the network found by the iMac helper but when prompted for the password I'm stumped. I realize this is more a PC question than anything else, but where on earth can I find out the password to my PC router?

What kind of wireless router do you have? Did you set it up - if so, it sounds like you set it up with a password to access the wireless network. If you did, but you've forgotten it, you'll need to refer to your router's documentation to find out how to reset it.
(For example, a Linksys router requires you to access http://192.168.1.1 for configuration.)
