IMac to PC iTunes sharing?

I just downloaded iTunes on my PC laptop.  How do I play music from my iMac on my laptop?

Take a look here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819?locale=en_US
If you want to have access to the music at all times on that laptop, then you'll have to copy it over from the iMac.
Regards.

Thanks for your reply. I looked in the Video app but it is empty. When I connect the iPad to iTunes on the iMac and look in  Apps > File Sharing > iPhoto, the video that I added is in iPhoto on the iPad but I cannot actually find the video in iPhoto on the iPad.

  • Why do I have to restart iTunes on my iMac to get Home Sharing to work again on my ATV2 and ATV3?

Last week I ordered two more Apple TVs 3rd generation.  I have connected them to my network and the ATV2 that I had, seems to be working differently.  I have to restart my iTunes on my iMac to get Home Sharing to work again.  I go to Apple Support and reference this page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972) and it seems to be the only solution, reset iTunes.
I currently have all apple products from end to end.  This doesn't seem to be working out as seamless as it should.  Any suggestions?

Until Apple gets off their butts to fix this, you can do this.  Create a workflow that 1. Closes iTunes, 2. Pauses 10 seconds, 3. Opens iTunes.  Then Save it as an Application.
    Then...
Create an Apple Script by "recording yourself" launching your new workflow.  Save that Apple Script.
    Finally..
Go into Mail, and create a Rule that when you receive an email with the subject as "Restart iTunes" it will run your Apple Script (wchich launches your workflow app).
Just send yourself an email from you chair!!!  :-)  Please reply if this works for you.  It works GREAT for me on Mountain Lion!
    Enjoy!

  • Stumped. iTunes sharing not working at all on one of my 4 iMacs

I refreshed my main  maxxed out BTO 27" iMac, and can't get itunes sharing to work.
I have 4 iMacs (2006,2009,2010,2013), 3 ipads (1,3,5) and 4 iphones (2x4,5,5s), last gen Apple TV, current gen Time Capsule. Everything is on latest SW updates.
I have my itunes library on the Time Capsule
Everything is wireless except my new BTO imac, which is connected to the TC via ethernet (previously my 2009 iMac was in this config and worked fine)
Using the ipads/iphones/Apple tv, I can hit the other shared libraries
The new imac doesn't showup on any of the other devices. I have homesharing and filesharing on in sys prefs and itunes, and itunes running but none of the devices see the new mac. Turned stuff off and on/rebooted all the devices etc, but stumped. Nothing shows up on any of the other devices, but they all see the other macs libraries fine.

Restarted the Mac and Time Capsule again, and it showed up.

  • ITunes sharing no longer works

When I try to connect to my shared library I only get a dialog box mentioning "iTunes not accepting connections at this time, try again later." Supposedly this message only occurs when 5 other users have connected to your library in a single day. I've been getting this every day for two weeks.
    Specifics are:
    1. Updated to iTunes 8.1.
    2. Used to work fine- iTunes library on external drive connected to Mac Mini, sharing to local network in house. Same message received on all other computers in house from Mac Mini.
    3. No other users are connected or can connect, I live in the sticks.
    4. File sharing works fine- no problems with network.
    5. Tried turning iTunes sharing off then on.
    6. Shut down and restarted all computers on network.
    7. Checked firewall- set to accept all connections. Tried setting to "specific apps" with iTunes added but still doesn't work.
    8. Trashed iTunes preferences and restarted.
    9. Tried setting a password. Didn't work, so I returned it to normal (no password).
    10. Reinstalled iTunes 8.1.
    11. Turned off iTunes DJ.
    12. Connections to ports 443 and 80 are allowed in Little Snitch. Sharing still doesn't work with Little Snitch turned off.
I'm out of ideas. Apple Genius's are out of ideas at local store. Am I alone with this problem?

Bumping this thread, as I still have the same very annoying problem, ever since the 8.1 update.
I have a MacBook and an iMac, the first wirelessly connected, the second by ethernet, both to a standard Actiontec router. I can see the shared library of another person on the network, but neither of my computers can share with the other, and doesn't even show up in the "Shared" section of the iTunes display.
Does anyone have any idea about this?

  • ITunes sharing stops working 1 hr after startup. Reboot reqd to fix. Help!

    Hi,
I've searched high and low and can't find anything describing a similar issue - perhaps I'm using the wrong search terms and someone can point out my stupidity or simply help me to troubleshoot (thanks in advance!):
    The problem:
    I have two Macs, a G5 mini and a G5 iMac, both fully patched up on Tiger. The mini works completely flawlessly but the iMac exhibits odd behaviour when sharing music;
Basically I cannot connect to the iMac's iTunes shared library after the iMac has been running for about an hour.
If I reboot the iMac, I am again able to access the share for an hour at which point the share seems to drop (ie music stops playing on receiving device) and I cannot reconnect or see the share.
Restarting iTunes makes no difference - I must reboot the iMac to get the share working again.
Furthermore, if I turn on the iMac and don't access the share until 30 mins later, then the share will vanish after 30 mins of use. i.e. still a total of 1 hour after the iMac was started up.
I have disabled the energy saving/sleep modes and scanned the console logs to see if anything obvious was crashing but I can't seem to find anything (I am a novice at Mac troubleshooting though!)
I hope this makes sense - any input appreciated!
    Rgds,
    Jhonne

    With:
    Windows 8
    Itunes 11
    ATV 3
    Verizon Router MI424WR
I have done these things in order to get Home Sharing to work
First solution was to turn off IPv6
Second was to turn off IGMP Proxy in the routers advnced setting
Third was to swicth my network type to "Broadband" in the advanced wireless options within the router
All of those solutions worked individually for a period of time until either itunes or the ATV was updated.

  • Help with iTunes Shared Library (Vista and OS X)

I am trying to share my Vista-based iTunes library with my new iMac. I have an issue now that iTunes does not let me select the shared iTunes library that resides on the PC. The following is how things are set up
    1) I've moved all of my PC-based music, my iTunes Library (.itl) file and the cover art to an external HD on my Vista PC.
    2) I've set permissions on all of the Vista files (music, library, art) to be read/write for available to all connected users.
    3) I have also mounted the PC-based external drive on my iMac. Permissions seem to be ok, as when I view files via the Finder, they are visable and accessible.
    4) However, when I try to open iTunes on iMac to change the shared library (using the OPTION key), the iTunes Library.itl file on the hard drive is completely greyed out. No matter how I change permissions or sharing on the Vista machine, I cannot seem to select the shared library.
    5) Interesting that I HAVE successfully accessed the same library through another Windows-based machine (Windows XP). In that instance I can access the network drive and select the iTunes Library.itl file no problem. Music streams fine after I do that. Also, from my iMac I am able to create files in the same directory where the iTunes files reside (using program like Text Editor) so it seems I do have write access and permissions to the directory.
Any clue why this is happening? It seems like iTunes is the one program that is not picking up the permissions from the iMac, but other Mac programs are. It's driving me a little nuts at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thx

    Bump. Same issue. Help please.

  • ITunes Sharing not working on all Computers

Hi, I'm looking for some help with setting up home sharing between a 21" imac OSX 10.7.4, bought early this year, and a windows vista PC.
I've scoured the web looking for solutions before finally deciding to search for help here.
ok, the situation is that at the moment, I have a windows Vista PC which i use as a media centre for all my music, which i intend to share over the network to my imac, but for some reason, vista can see my imac's playlist, but the imac can't see the window's playlist. i'm also running a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Quad with itunes server running, whIch is also only visible on vista.
I've already set up static IPs for the imac, vista and NAS, but still to no avail. I've opened ports 3689 and 5353, and allowed access through the firewall on both norton 360(vista) and imac's firewall, and disabled windows firewall.
However, i've tested the home sharing connection on an ipad, and can only receive the imac's playlist, while the vista's playlist can't be detected.
This is all very puzzling to me, as it doesnt make any sense as to why the playlists aren't turning up, and worst still, there is no set pattern to the issues. Due to this, i cant pinpoint the exact kink in the chain. But to the best of my knowledge, i have done all i can to ensure an open connection between devices.
Oddly enough, itunes on my imac did manage to detect both the NAS itunes server and the Vista's playlist on one or two occasions, but eventually vanished never to return again. on both occasions, i was doing the exact same things as i did the other times i tried to configure itunes, except those other times failed to detect. I've run out of ideas.
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME. YOUR HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED as i use the imac for video editing and need the music libraries to be accesible.
    Thank you!

Thanks for the reply. I checked and both the service and process are running.
One of the windows machines was away with my brother at college, and he informs me that iTunes sharing was working fine for him there. I can only assume that the problem is due to something with my router configuration. Any ideas?

  • Setting up Brand New iPad 2 - iTunes Sharing and Getting Files from old iTunes Account

Greetings.  I recently purchased an iPad 2 (convert after 20 years of PC use) and have been waiting to set it up until I knew the proper way to proceed.  I have multiple questions and am hoping those of you with more Apple experience can help out a convert .
I would like to set it up with a new iTunes account so when my wife gets her iPad 2 next year we can share apps and movies we buy on iTunes.  Do you always have to sync your iPad to your PC to get your latest purchases or can you do that via the wireless connection directly on the iPad after the initial set-up?
That said, if one of us buys an app/movie, will we both have to carry it on our iPads or will they store remotely on iTunes or on our PCs?  I'm just concerned about maxing out the storage space on the iPad.  Do the purchases need to occur on your PC vs. the iPad itself for both to have the app/movie access?
I've also read about iCloud issues and syncing all calendar/contact/etc. accounts if two iPads are set-up with the same Apple ID.  What's the best way to initially configure the iPads so that you avoid this headache in the future?
Once I get all this settled and get a new iTunes shared account working, is there any way to get the movies I have in both of our old iTunes accounts into the new shared iTunes account?  Can I simply drop them on a jump drive from one PC and place them into an appropriate folder on the new PC that the iPad sync's to if it does in fact need to sync?
Again, appreciate all the help and sorry for all of the confusion and multiple thoughts.  I would just like to set this thing up once and for all the right way.
    Thanks again

1, you can (re-)download a lot of purchases directly on the iPad without having to connect to your computer - apps and ibooks can be re-downloaded (as long as they remain available), music can be re-downloaded in some countries; tv shows can currently only be re-downloaded in the US. Re-downloading
2, films are a one-time only download, so you can either download it on your computer's iTunes and sync it to your device(s), or if you download it directly on the iPad you will need to then copy it to your computer's iTunes (connect the iPad and do File > Transfer Purchases) so that you can make a backup and copy it to your other iPods, iPads etc.
3, I haven't had any problems with iCloud, but then I don't share my account so it's only my account and contacts on my iPad and iPhone.
4, you can authorise your old accounts on your computer's iTunes (Store > Authorise This Computer) and copy the films onto it : File > Add File To Library - you can't copy or transfer content to a different account (nor can you combine accounts), they will remain tied to the original account
The iPad's manual has some info about syncing and each of the built-in apps (the iBooks app is covered in the manual though it isn't pre-installed, but you can download it for free from the store) - the manual can be downloaded from here http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad

  • How do I remove an old iPod device from my list of 5 so I can add my new iMac to my iTunes account?

I see that iTunes will only sync 5 devices to my iTunes account. One of my 5 is an old iPod that has not worked for years. How do I delete it so I can add my new iMac to my iTunes account?

iTunes Authorizations are limited to 5 Computers and 10 devices total. If you've already reached the 5 computer threshold, removing the iPod won't do any good. Nevertheless, here's some more info:

Our family has several apple devices, iPad, touch, and now iMac, our original iTunes are all under a different apple id.  do we keep our own accounts even in cloud? do we all have access to each others media? (First time out with all this..)

There is no problem about using one ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match, and another for iCloud and its email and syncing facilities. This way you can all use the same iTunes account but have separate emails and calendars etc.

Unless you subscribe to Match, you will have to transfer your non-iTunes stuff from your old computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
If you want to copy non-iTunes music off of your iPod (eg, if your old computer doesn't exist), you'll need to use a third party program.  I don't know of any free ones anymore, but if you google, you can find several in the $19 range.
