IMac to replace Sony laptop. How do we make it our main computer?

WE have just bought an iMac to replace Sony laptop. We would like the iMac to be our main computer and iTunes account.
how do we change the other devices - ipad and phone to sync with the iMac instead of the laptop.
CUrrently when you wish to sync by wifi it says it will sync when the laptop is connected.

  • I have currently purchased a new laptop, how do I make this my main computer to manage my devices?

I have an iPhone 4s, a iPad and an iPod connected to my acct., how do I make my new laptop the main computer for all 3 devices?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I have a new computer (PC to Mac). How do I make it my "main" computer for syncing?

I set up a sync account to sync between my former laptop (PC) but have since changed to a new one (Mac) and wish to sync my iPhone with the new one. I would like to set up the new sync account using the same e-mail address as the old account, but when I attempt to set up the account on the new laptop I am told (correctly) that the address is already used. Is it possible to delete my current sync account so that I can reuse my e-mail address?

Download them then add to iTunes.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes apps and songs using my apple ID to our main computer which already has my husband's apple ID on

I have iTunes on an old laptop with my own apple ID for my iphone and ipod.
My husband has iTunes on our main computer with his own apple ID for his iphone and ipod.
I am shortly purchasing an iPad using my apple ID.
How can I transfer my songs, apps and videos from my iTunes onto the new computer using my apple ID, not his.
Is it possible to create a new account on his iTunes?
How do I ensure all my apps and songs come over from my iTunes?
I have searched on here and online but have not been able to get an answer.
    Thanks

    Thanks
Are you sure that if I use my windows log in rather than my husbands, then open itunes it won't delete all his hundreds of songs and overwrite with mine?
I want to maintain my own apple ID login and he wants his but without losing his songs.....
how do i transfer the content of my itunes including apps and songs to the new computer.  There doesn't seem to be an easy explanation on here. Do I just plug my iPhone in and it will all transfer?

Each device only syncs waht you select.

  • Just replaced my laptop how do I transfer all my itunes, apps to the new laptop?

Just bought a new laptop. How do I transfer itunes music, apps, etc onto the new laptop?

Ok here is another way. You will need file sharing on on both computers. You will need to have the ip address of your old computer. It;s in system preferences( network). you will need your old comps admin name just as appears in accounts and the password. Then go to the top of your desktop, new computer, click on go scroll down click on servers. Type in ip address amin name and password for old computer.and click on the apply. A file should come up on the screen that is you old computer. you need to go tothe home folder, music open it find the folder that just has the music in it. open the folder to make sure. then close it drag it to you desktop and let you new compuer copy it. After it gets copied open Itunes . then go to file andclick on it . Go down to add library and click on it you'll get another file on your desktop to find the file youwant.  Click on desktop click on the Itunes folder click the copy and it will copy that folder to your new Itune. then throw away the itunes folder on the desktop. I should add, you want just the music file nothing else off your old computer, otherwise it will not work.

  • How to?  Working images on main computer drive and backup to externals?

    Hi there---
Right now I work in Bridge CS3 and Photoshop and have a workflow and image management system that works for me. But I want to see if I can integrate Lightroom, which I just installed.
I skimmed Martin Evening's book and I am still not sure I can do the following:
Can I keep 3-6 months worth of images on my working computer drive, backing up regularly as I always do, and then erase them on my working computer drive while keeping them on my two backup drives? Or does the Lightroom database not allow you to work that way. My read of Evening is that he works entirely off the external disks. But I don't want to do that. My external disks are just for backups only and I want to keep it that way.
When I would need something from 3-6 months ago, then I'd want to be able to fire up the backup drives and retrieve.
Any suggestions on whether I can do this and how I would do this would be great!
    Thanks, Paul

Thanks! Is there a "how to" posted somewhere about this?? I need workflow suggestions and I'm coming up blank.
Currently, I put a new yyyy-mm-dd-nameofshoot folder for every shoot which contains a folder with the original RAW files. I delete the bad ones in bridge. And develop the ones I want to level 10 jpgs in photoshop. I put those in a JPG folder. Sometimes I put other things in the same folder that I want to keep in there... like client invoices, retouched photos, uprezzed images, web galleries. I try to keep everything together under 1 folder and manage everything through my Mac OS interface... not through software.
My backup routine consists of backing up weekly to two external drives using Prosoft's Data Backup 3. I do a simple copy, not a sync or clone, which only copies new or modified files. If the files get deleted off my computer disk, they get kept on the backup. In this way, I clean my computer disk periodically and retain my backup.
I'm so happy with my backup system and kind of want to retain it, but also use LR. I'm worried that the database will screw up my system of working. But I'm attracted to the easy metadata entry and image search capabilities.
    Any ideas would be appreciated!

  • How can I make Time Capsule main source for music?

So as of right now my macbook pro has around 3gb of memory left. I bought a Time Capsule so i could store all of my music on it and clear up my macbook pro. I was wondering how i could set it up so the main source that itunes is getting my music from is the time Capsule. Thanks!

    Sorry, but definitely not recommended.
If you move your iTunes Media Folder to the Time Capsule disk, when....not if....the drive has a problem.....you have no backups for your data. You lose all of your music.
A much better (and much safer) plan would be to add a USB or Firewire drive to your computer and store your Media Folder there.
Then, Time Machine will backup both your computer and the hard drive with your music files.
Now, you have "originals" on one drive and backups on another. That kind of backup strategy makes sense.
Apple's Support Document on moving your iTunes Media Folder is below. Hope you decide to stay safe.

  • If I have 2 mail accounts on my IPad how do I make the opposit main my default to get mail

on my IPad I have 2 accounts, 1 is Verizon the other is yahoo. It has Yahoo as my default one but I'd like to make Verizon my default one. Yahoo. Takes all the mail, notepad, calanders and a few other apps in it. i was going to delete the yahoo one to make Verizon account but it says if I delete my Yahoo mail account it deletes whatever is on my note pad. Etc.So does anyone know i can switch this. Please n Thank You.

Open Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calenders->under mail scroll down to Default Account which will say Yahoo.  Tap on it & choose Verizon.  Now whenever you start an email, the default 'from' will be your Verizon email.

  • I want to download itunes to my laptop and have the same library i have on my main computer at home. How can I do this?

  • How do I make iMovie projects play in Windows Media Player?

How do I make movies that I have created in iMovie play in Windows Media PLayer having been transferred by memory stick or email? This would be ideal to know because my school's computers are PCs and our main computer is an iMac.

By far the easiest way is to have the school install the free QuickTime Player (Windows Version) from Apple.
Otherwise, you can buy a version of Flip4Mac that will enable you to do the conversion using QuickTime Pro or MPEG Streamclip.

how can i make recovery in my computer when recovery has been deleted

    Hi,
The only way to re-create the Recovery Partition would be to reinstall the operating system using your recovery DVDs - make sure to back-up all your personal files etc first before doing this.
If you don't have these DVDs, you can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.
