Imac to windows without losing tunes

Please help
I just bought a new iPod at the Apple store in San Jose. I was told I could install it on a Mac, download a bunch of music and then take it to a Windows XP PC and download tunes ok as long as I didn't do the auto sync mode. Does this really work? I tried it and the only way seems to be reformatting my iPod - and lose all my music.
Is there any way to do this without losing my music?
Thank you
Evelyn

If you install it on the PC first, then you can do this.
If you install it on a Mac first, then you cannot do this since the PC will not recognize the Mac formatted iPod. If you do not want to reformat the iPod, the only way is to get special third party software such as Xplay or MacDrive which will allow your PC to read the Mac formatted iPod.

I also entered my ipods hard drive via a friends Mac and copied the files onto his Mac but although the file is clearly the right one in terms of file size when i click into it it does not display the music contained within it???? Sounds like you first need to get the stuff OFF your iPod and onto a hard drive on your friends Mac first...

  • Transfering music from new iMac to iPod without losing songs on ipod

    Hello,
I've just finised uploading all my CD's onto my new iMac. I now wish to download the contents of the iMac's iTunes library onto my iPod (click wheel but not video) without losing the songs that are already on the iPod. The iPod was originally synced to a Windows PC which was used to download it's existing library. There are a number of songs on my iPod that are not in my new iMac's iTunes library & also a large number of songs that are already on the iPod.
Basically, I want to know how I can download all songs from my iMac's library that are not already on the iPod without losing the songs I have on the iPod that are not in the iMac's iTunes library (Ihope that makes sence).
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Dave!
    Yes, you can do this.
First off, do this to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing your iPod:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
3 - Basically as soon as your iPod begins to display "Do Not Disconnect", begin to press and hold the Option and Command keys on your keyboard together simultaneously.
4 - Continue to hold these keys for about 20 seconds, throughout the time when your iPod is showing up in the Source List in iTunes.
After you've done this, click on your iPod's name in the Source List (the Source List is the left panel area of iTunes), and under the "Summary" tab, tick the "Manually manage" option for your iPod. Also, go to the “Music” tab, and ensure that the “Sync” option isn’t selected.
Click the “Apply” button in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
Manually managing the songs on your iPod will allow you to preserve the current content that you have on your iPod, and transfer new content from your iTunes library to your iPod.
When you are connecting your iPod to a computer that is different than what it is normally synced to, you will get a message that says something like: "The contents of the iPod "your iPod's name" is synced to another iTunes library. What would you like to do?"
You will be given a couple of options, and make sure to click on "Cancel", and NOT "Erase and Sync" (or else the current contents of your iPod will be erased, and the iPod will be synced with your iTunes library).
So, after you've saved your iPod's songs from being automatically synced off of it, you can transfer your iPod's music to your compter if you wish.
You can install a third-party program onto your computer that can do this copying.
    Try using Senuti.

  • How can I reinstall iTunes without losing tune content of my iPod

I had a major Windows system 32 problem and had to reformat my hard drive. (Computer was backed up before incident.)
Later, I got a message about a corrupt iTunes driver and found iPod and iTunes in recycle bin.
    Long story short:
I have installed updated iPod software and now need to re-install iTunes. I read somewhere how to re-install updated iTunes without losing what is already on my iPod...but I forget where I read it.
Of course, I DON'T WANT TO LOSE the content in my iPod.
My understanding is that, if I do nothing to prevent it, when I download iTunes and connect my iPod to the PC, I will lose all my iPod content because the new iTunes library will be empty.
How do I get iTunes back again, without losing my iPod tunes?
All suggestions and help very much appreciated!!

  • Can I uninstall Windows without losing my Word documents?

Can I uninstall WORD without losing my WORD documents?

You asked two different questions: one in the header and a different one in your message body.
The answer to both questions is "Yes", assuming your documents are stored somewhere like your documents folder, and you do a proper uninstall of either Word or Windows (meaning carefully remove only those pieces releated to the app).

  • Need to reinstall windows without losing data

    PC Specs:
Model: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC
Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit
    Processor: AMD A6-4400M APU 2.7GHz
When I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1, I got a popup saying the Windows 8 is not activated. I looked all over my PC (the physical computer itself and the digital information within) as well as the box it came in, entered every number I could find, and nothing worked. Upon looking at my PC information, I saw that I'm running Windows 8 Pro. That's not right! I'm supposed to have Home Premium. I want to know if there's some clever registry trick to find my serial (nothing illegal) or how I might be able to restore Home Premium without losing any data. If worse comes to worst, I can borrow an External HD from work.
    Thanks,

Windows 8 key is stored in BIOS. It will only activate the version your laptop shipped with-or was supposed to ship with, not sure how you ended up with Windows 8 Pro.

  • How to reinstall Palm desktop for Windows without losing all my desktop data

I use a Palm T|X and Windows XP Pro.  I was using Palm Desktop 4.x but decided to upgrade to the latest version. 6.2.2.  I have had a lot of problems since then, HotSync does not work properly with CalorieKing and Palm Desktop complains about "switching users" each time I try to open Contacts.
I want to uninstall Palm Desktop 6.x and reinstall Palm Desktop 4.x.  I know that my data will be safe if after the new install I tell HotSYnc to have the handheld overright the deaktop.  However, what about the programs?  Will they also get transferred from the Palm back to the desktop?   Will the conduits be set up correctly for Documents to Go, CalorieKing and my other applications, or will I have to reinstall them?
    Post relates to:

The programs are still in place, but how does the "new" copy of Palm desktop know they are there?  Also, there are copies of the programs that are installed only on the Palm but not the Windows machines in one of the Palm desktop folders that use used to restore data to the Palm T|X. How do I save that data, without having to install all those programs yet again, even though they already exist on the palm?.

  • How do I import a large iPhoto library into an iMac running Yosemite without losing the existing division of the library into albums?which file do I look for on the older Mac, running Snow Leopard?

    Import of library

You don't import one library into another.  Simply copy the library from the older Mac to the Pictures folder on iMac.  If you already have a library on the iMac rename it first.
Next launch iPhoto on the new iMac with the Option key held down and select the newly copied library.
If you have photos in the original library on the iMac you can merge that library into the larger, copied library with the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.  Or if you also have Aperture 3.3 you can use it to merge the two libraries.

  • Installing new windows without losing my podcasts settings???

    Hi,
since i've got problems with my windows, i am really keen on formatting and reinstalling xp. i've already made a backup of all my podcast-files (my itunes library is on drive d:, so formating drive c: won't affect my files anyway),
however, i don't want to lose my podcast settings and descriptions within itunes. is there any solution for this problem
thanks in advance for your help

Podcast descriptions are part of the episode files. Episodes use the artist, album, and track track tags for this.
When opening iTunes on new installation hold down the shift key during startup of iTunes. It will open dialog to select library. Navigate to file and select it.
    Some of this may help

  • Can I turn off mu iCloud without losing all my documents on my iMac?My iCloud window popped up unexpectedly, and am worried about a hacker. HELP.

Can I turn off, or remove myself my iCloud account, without losing all my documents on my iMac? My iCloud window popped up unexpectedly, and am worried about a hacker. When I try and sign out of iCloud, The iCloud window is giving me a message that "If you turn off Documents & Data, all documents stored in iCloud will be removed from this Mac". I have iMac OS X 10.7.5, 2.7ghz, Intel core i5. I don't use my iCloud service, and I somehow my iPhone linked it to my computer by mistake. I don't want the service or need it, & don't want my info in cyberspace. I don't want to lose my documents on my hard drive, and it appears that I haven't used any data in iCloud, as 5GB of 5GB is available. HELP.

I would love to hear that Apple has remedied this problem. From other discussion strings that I am following related to this issue, it seems thus far we remain out of luck. I did discover that if I log onto iCloud.com I can access my files that way.  Still, what a pain.
When I got the message re iCloud Drive as I was setting up my phone after the update to iOS8, it said I wouldn't be able to access my files unless all of my devices were running iOS8 OR Yosemite. That message was misleading as it really should have said all devices need to be running iOS8 AND your mac needs to be running Yosemite, as it was not an "either or" situation.  So frustrating...
