IMac top screen Darker at the top

iMac screen is dim at the top. I've looked and read every possible topic and there is nothing relating this issued been fixed. I do notice that when I put the computer to sleep and wake it afterwards, the screen regains the brightness for a few seconds and it dims again at the top. Is a bit annoying

The screen on my iMac (2008) goes darker all the time in the top 1/3 of the screen. It has been doing this for the past year. It's readable but just. Is there anything I can do to correct this or is it just the screen is dying?

Either the display or graphics card is in trouble. Run Apple Hardware Test in extended mode three times back to back. If errors appear then a hardware issue is confirmed, the next step would be to take the machine in for repair. Because the machine is 6 years old now you may want to consider looking into a replacement for it.

Apple put in a new hard disk in my iMac. The bottom of my screen is darker than the top and how can I fix this?

Take it back, however remember your machine is close to 7 years old so it may be time to just get a new machine

Top 1/3 of screen darker then the rest.. 23" HD

A few weeks ago the top 1/3 of screen got darker then the rest.. It seemed to go in and out from 100% to dark for about a week and now it is just darker. The monitor is still usable but it gives me a head ache after a while of working.
Can this be repaired by apple? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Happened to me and I thought it also was the upper cfl tube, it got progressively darker by the week. Instead of changing the cfl tube, I swapped the inverter board from an exact model that was used for parts. I figured that an inverter change was much easier to do and it was and the problem was solved, works like new. Sometimes it is not always the tubes that go bad, the inverter board is divided into 2 sections, one for the lower tube and one for the upper one that supply the tubes the voltage. If voltage is weak, so are the tubes. If the power button on the monitor flashes it is almost a sure sign of inverter problem. Tubes and inverter are really not that difficult to change, just the right size allen keys and a philips screwdriver and a little patience. Check out moniserv.com for schematics and parts. They also have some very useful suggestions.

Why is the left side of my iMac screen darker than the other, and why does the display randomly go black?

My family has a late 2010 27" Imac. A few months ago, we noticed that the left side of the screen was somewhat darker than the right. As time went on, it continued to get worse and worse. When you turn the computer off for an hour or so, it helps the display out somewhat, but it eventually goes back to being darker on the left. About two months ago, the display started to go completely black. When the screen is black, everything still runs. My itunes library will still play, everything is functioning even though the screen is out. It has started to become more frequent. It is extremely annoying, almost unbearable. Since the one year warranty went out in November, what are we supposed to do about this?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. It's a known issue with 27" iMacs and you might be eligible for replacement. I had mine replaced shortly after buying it. BTW, AppleCare's extended warranty is the cheapest insurance policy one can have for desktop machines. Too bad you missed the deadline.

After updating to the new iOS, my wallpaper is dark at the top?

After updating to the most recent iOS, my wallpaper turned darker? Like the top half of the wallpaper became dark for some reason? Is anybody else having this problem because I don't know how to fix this

Actually you can do a bit of a trick to re-arrange a fullscreen apps but there is one thing which you should know - the first screen can't be a fullscreen app screen.
So, here is what you can do.
Example: you have 3 fullscreen apps running on your OS: Pages, iPhoto, Mail.
So you go to Mission Control and you see on the top the first screen which is an empty screen or a screen with any opened apps (not a fullscreen apps) and also you see your fullscreen apps in a row of 3 screens.
So talking about these 3 screens (windows). Your Pages screen is the first fullscreen app window, iPhoto is the 2nd and Mail is the 3rd but you want to make it the 1st. So to do this you need to go to your second window (iPhoto), and press twice the Mail icon in your dock (one click and then another click).
It will make your 3rd screen with Mail to take a place of 1st screen and iPhoto will be moved to the end.
It all should be done while you are in a MC.

47ZV650U - Screen Visible on the top only

I have a 47ZV650U and there is a horizontal line that separates the top 1/8 of the screen from the bottom. Above the 1/8 portion, the screen is active and working properly. On the bottom of the horizontal line, the screen is gray (black or blank) with no image. There is no difference when I use all the other video inputs (HDMI, HD1 & 2, Video 1, PC) and the signal is good from my satelite receiver. I can plug in another TV to the same receiver, and there are no issues. It's definitely something w/ the TV.

Open the SETUP menu and select "Reset TV." Then confirm by selecting "Yes." When the process is complete, turn off the TV. Then unplug it from power for a few minutes. After that, reconnect it and try it again. If it's still like that, it sounds like it may require servicing.

I am using Windows 7 on my desk top computer. The top area of the desk top is visible at the top of my Mozilla Firefox browser and all web pages. It is opaque

The web pages do not completely fill the screen at the top of my computer screen as I can see the top of my desk top page. It is opaque but still visible. I would like to have the entire screen (the bookmarks still visible along the side, of course) and not see the background of the desk top. Thank you.

Try to disable transparency in Windows, see:

Right click in a free space on your desktop. 
Left click on Personalization. 
There are four options at the bottom of the screen, choose "Window Color and Appearance". 
Select a border color 
Uncheck: "Enable transparency" 
Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Screen Darker In The Middle

I have noticed that the screen is much darker in the middle of the screen, vertically in a column. This was improved when i booted to the CD. Now on a fresh install and it looks better but doesnt seem to be completely fixed. I am going to wait and let the screen heat up. Also is there any fix for the high pitched noise yet?

hmm...I just received mine literally 20 minutes ago, and my screen is considerably darker on the right side (especially along the right edge). And I have this backlighting leaking on the upper right corner. I am going to wait a day and see if that clears anything. If not, it's going back....sigh...

Is there any solution for the unwanted gradient over my imac screen? its quite anoying working with Photo Shop. The colors are just much lighter on the bottom of the screen.
Isnt there some kind of screen tool that can place a reverse layer over my screen?

If you are missing the said repair discs, they are available usually through calling AppleCare for a nominal fee:

If you bought the machine from a non-Apple Authorized source, they should convey the discs that came with the Mac upon purchase to you upon your purchase as any software on those discs are designated to help you in using your Mac.
Usually the discs are prepackaged with the manuals in the box when you buy from an Apple authorized source. The hardware test is not "PC" like, in that there is no registry or BIOS setting to edit.

I would like to change the setting so that the whole lap-top screen apart from the bookmarks column is used for the information - at the moment I have only a strap using 2/3 of the screen, and the rest is mozlla background

The previous version of Firefox used the whole screen; this version (Firefox Beta 4.0) uses only about 2/3 of the screen, leavig a space above and below the part-screen that it does use,and filling the rest with a background. I was able to chose which background when I first updated to this version, but I wasn't given the choice, as far as i remember, to have no background and use the whole screen.

How recently did you switch? If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account. The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices. I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...

Not clear what you see. Do you need the windows to float rather than tabbed view. Change preference/interface.

OMG: Putting one Mac on top of another puts the top one to sleep!

I just spent an hour trying to debug an interesting non-problem, that I thought worthy of report as many people seem to be reporting this sort of thing: My mac would boot to the apple, then go to blue screen, then to black. It didn't fail, it just seemed to go to sleep. I did all sorts of things trying to resolve this, hard booting, smc reset, pram reset, blah blah blah. NOTHING. So I gave up and closed the cover ... at which point it occurred to me that it might be just ... well ... alseep. So I opened the cover. Nothing. Then I noticed that I had it sitting RIGHT ON TOP OF A SECOND MACHINE OF THE SAME KIND...oh %^$#! Took the bottom machine away, et voila! Instant on!
