IMac trying to connect to another iMac

my iMac is trying to connect to my other iMac on my network whenever I login to this imac
how do I turn this off?
Thanks for any help.

There are many possible causes for this issue, and it may be very hard to resolve without wiping your account clean of everything except documents as a last resort. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
If you get the alert in the login screen before you log in, stop here and ask for instructions.
Step 1
If you get the alert as soon as you log in, it's probably caused by one of your login items or by software that otherwise loads at startup or login. Ask if you need help identifying it. Known offenders are "1Password" and "Adobe Resource Synchronizer."
Step 2
If there's an icon representing the server in the sidebar of a Finder window, hold down the command key and drag it out.
Step 3
In the Finder, press the key combination command-K or select
          Go ▹ Go to Server...
from the menu bar. In the upper right corner of the window that opens is a Recent Servers popup menu represented by a clock icon. From that menu, select
          Clear Recent Servers…
and confirm. Test.
Step 4
Open the Printers & Scanners pane in System Preferences and delete any network devices you no longer use.
Step 5
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing  command-C:
~/Library/PDF Services
In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open. If it does, move the contents to the Desktop, or to a new folder on the Desktop. Log out and log back in. Test. If there's no change, put the items you moved back where they were and continue.
Step 6
Open the folder
~/Library/Preferences
as in Step 5 and move the file named "loginwindow.plist" items in that folder to the Trash, if it exists (it may not.)
Log out and back in again, and test.
Step 7
Other possible causes are references in the iPhoto, iTunes, or iMovie library pointing to the server, and bookmarks in the Preview application.
Try rebuilding the iPhoto library.
Step 8
Resources such as images or sounds stored on the server may have been added to various applications. Examples would be pictures added to Contacts and custom sounds added to Mail. The range of possibilites here is practically infinite, so I can't be more specific. You might get a hint by launching the Console application and looking for error messages that appear at the same time as the alerts.
Step 9
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up. Start up in safe mode. Test. After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Step 10
Triple-click the line below to select it:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Directory Utility.app
Rght-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
          Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* The application Directory Utility will open.
In the Directory Utility window, select the Directory Editor tool in the toolbar. Select Mounts from the Viewing menu in the toolbar, and/Local/Default from the node menu, if not already selected. On the right is a list of names and values. By default, the list is empty. If it's not empty, post a screenshot of the window and stop here.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
Step 11
Open the following file as you did in the last step:
/etc/auto_master
It will open in a TextEdit window. The contents should be exactly this:
# Automounter master map
+auto_master          # Use directory service
/net               -hosts          -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
/home               auto_home     -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
/Network/Servers     -fstab
/-               -static
If there are any other lines in the window, post them. Otherwise, close the window.

  • "Connection Failed" when trying to connect to another Mac on my wireless network.

    Hi,
I am having an intermittent problem with the connectivity between my iMac and Mac Pro - the latter is the media server for our house. Occasionally my Apple TV's seem to lose connectivity to the Mac Pro too which is a real pain. Both Macs are running Mavericks and the Apple TVs are running the latest software too.
If I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder on my iMac, the Mac Pro is there but when I click on it I get "Connection Failed". Rebooting both computers seems to fix the problem but is far from ideal when mid way through a film!
The messages in console on my iMac when I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder is:
    14/03/2014 10:20:33.542 sharingd[253]: SDSharePointBrowser::handleOpenCallBack returned -5999
14/03/2014 10:23:34.180 locationd[82]: could not open write stream for /var/db/locationd/clients.plist
I'm not sure if this provides a clue?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Rob

I've managed to connect OK using Connect as. So at least that part is solved. I will see if I can get any diagnostics as to why the Apple TV drops out.

  • When trying to connect with another iPad or iPhone user it tells me they are unavailable even when they are

I am having trouble connecting with people on FaceTime.  When I try to connect with them using their email address it will come back saying they are not available when I know they are.

The question is, Do they have the emai address that you are using configured as a, "You can be reached by Facetime at:" in Settings > Facetime?
Of course they may be just choosing not to accept your call.

  • Strange message when trying to connect to another computer via SMB

    Hello,
I sucessfully set up a MAC/VISTA network and used it for the past days. I connected through CMD+K smb//:<my_ip>
But now I get everytime the following message when doing that:
_*"Connection failed" - This data server is already active on your computer. Please access the files and volumes locally.*_
(This is my translation of the german message, so it might not be the correct translation)
Anyway, I can't find the share in Finder, it is not there anymore. What does this message means, I'm confused??

    open up your terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
    Type in the following:
    cd /Volumes <enter>
    ls -al <enter>
Now see if the name of your Vista PC is in the list. If it is, unmount them (there may be multiple instances)
    umount <Name of Volume> <enter>
You may have to use the "force" flag, like so:
    umount -f <Name of Volume> <enter>
You'll have to be root to do that.

  • EMC trying to connect to server in another AD domain

    Hi
I have an issue since installing the exchange 2010 management tools on a backup server. When opening it is trying to connect to another cas server in a different domain in the forest. The EMC on the cas server opens normally and the shell on the backup server
opens fine. I have already deleted the cache from mmc roaming profile and the NodeStructureSettings from the registry but to no avail. I also installed the management tools on a pc in the office and it also points to the cas server in the other domain. I can
manually add the cas server and connect through add another forest but I want to fix this. Any suggestions
    Thanks

    Hi GigzH,
    Thank you for your question.
First of all, we make sure the CAS in same site has pointed to current DC by the following command:
    Get-ExchangeServer –Status <server_name> | FL
Did  you have the domain controller statically set on the exchange server?
If we don’t set static DC, Exchange will choose DC by dynamic manner.
We could refer to the following steps to troubleshoot:
Make sure all DCs are GC on respective domain
Make sure Preferred DNS server on Exchange point to current domain
Restart the service of “Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology
Note : Restart the active directory topology service after the production hours.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Trying to connect using Network Browser, AppleTalk

I am trying to connect to another computer in my office. I go to the Apple Menu, Network Browser, AppleTalk, click AppleTalk and usually the name of the other computer that I want access to appears in the list, the last two days the other computer name does not appears in the AppleTalk list? Do you have any helpful ideas to how I can access my other computer?

    Sorry for the two posts!

If the other computer and your computer do not BOTH have AppleTalk ON, and assigned to the same medium (typically Ethernet) you will not be able to connect.
If either computer is losing its PRAM backup battery, a power fluctuation can corrupt the parameters, including AppleTalk settings.
If either computer is upgraded to 10.4 or later, AppleTalk File Sharing was removed at that point, so you will have to connect using IP. You can click on the big button in the Chooser, "Server IP Address", and enter the other computer's IP address. \[The other computer is acting as a Server in this case.]

  • SCCM connecting to another server 80

We are running SCCM 2012 R2 and our security officer noticed some odd traffic in the iis logs on our SCCM server.  The SCCM server is trying to connect to another server via powershell on port 80 every 2 mins.  This is the only server this
is happening to.  All other communication is on 443 for all the other server/client authentication.  This is what shows up in the IIS logs every 2 minutes:
    2015-01-30 21:05:06 192.18.100.82 POST /powershell PSVersion=2.0 80 domain\serveradmin 192.18.100.21 Microsoft+WinRM+Client - 500 0 64 327
    Host = server2
    source = C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1\u_ex150130.log
    sourcetype = iis
Why is this occurring and how do I stop it?

If it's in the IIS log, then it's not an outbound connection. IIS receives connections, it doesn't initiate them.
Thus, the log line above indicates an inbound connection from a WinRM client on the source system.
WinRM has nothing to do with ConfigMgr though and neither does this connection attempt. You'll have to examine that source system.

  • Trying to connect an iMac with an e-Mac via Linksys

We are trying to connect my son's eMac with our iMac using a Linksys Wireless-G broadband router on the iMac and a Linksys Wireless G USB adapter for the eMac. We cannot seem to get it going. The router is connected via ethernet to my computer with no problem, we just can't get the eMac side on board. I tried plugging in the same network info from the iMac into my son's computer, but that wouldn't work. Neither computer has an Airport card.
We really know nothing about networking-zero- and the setup disc is of course only for PCs.
We really just want to share an internet connection. Is there any tech document out there that can take us through this step-by-step? Did we just buy the wrong stuff? My son is suffering from iTunes withdrawal and I really need some help before my husband starts drilling holes in the wall. Thanks!

Maria, Welcome to the discussion area!
Unfortunately you need the proper driver before that USB device will work with your eMac. Because of the need for drivers, USB wireless adapters are notoriously unreliable when used with the Mac OS.
The best solution is to get the proper wireless card for your eMac. Depending on the model of eMac, it may require the original AirPort card or it may require the AirPort Extreme card.
Another possibility is a Ethernet wireless adapter. These require no drivers and therefore will work with any Ethernet device. Examples of Ethernet wireless adapters are the Linksys WET11, Linksys WET54G, and the Buffalo Technology WLI-TX4-G54HP bridge.

  • Trying to connect Touch to the net via my iMac Airport Exteme

    Hi
I recently bought a new iMac g5 and an ipod touch. I have tried to connect the touch by setting up a network on the iMac .The touch recognises it but when I try safari it says not connected. I have another iMac (power pc) and have tried recently linking the 2 via Airport also with no joy..Can anyone share there comments..
    cheers

Don't just upgrade without checking out the detail first. I posted this in another thread earlier today:
Firstly ensure you have full backup your can restore from - Time Machine or clone, in case you need to restore to the previous OS for any reason.
Make sure your computer meets the specs: https://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Although the tech specs say 2gb of RAM is required, user experience seems to indicate that at least 4gb is required for real-world use.
Be aware that any older PowerPC apps will not longer run as Mavericks (or Lion and Mountain Lion) don't support Rosetta, which enabled the ability. If you rely on any you may need to do lots of updates or replace some apps. Here is a fairly comprehensive list of compatibility of various apps:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps
If you decide to upgrade download and install Mavericks from the Mac App Store (in the Apple menu). The installer is 5.3gb, so it's a large download. You may want to make a copy of it onto an 8gb USB stick or DVD as it could save you another big download in the future.
To do this quit the installer before running it as it self-deletes on successful installation. (Once the download is complete you are prompted to click on the 'install' button - it's at this point you quit. The file is downloaded to your Applications folder as a file called 'Install OS X Mavericks').
Some people make a bootable disk of the installer - this can be easily done using Diskmaker X:

How do I add an Epson printer connected to an iMac on the network to the printer list on my MacBook Pro? I cannot get it to show up in the list for printers to add.

That only works if the printer is itself a network printer. You can't do it if it is directly connected to another computer on the network unless it is configured to be a Shared Printer on the other computer.

I'm trying to connect my 23" Cinema Display monitor to my iMac. The adaptor cable I ordered came with a female, I need a male adaptor. Any ideas where I might find one? I purchased the BlueRigger Mini Displayport Male to DVI Female Adapter Cable.

I have the 23" aluminum Cinema Display. I just can't seem to find the right adaptor for the monitor femal plug on the backside. I've tried a Bluerigger but it was a female adaptor. I believe I need a male.
