i got the older white imac (2007) and i believe I am running OS 10.3. Last night my computer was not responding so i had to manually turn it off. i tied turning it back on and i hear the apple chime the screen goes grey with the apple logo, then afer about 15 sec, the computer just shuts its self down and turns off. i have tried booting in safe mode (by holding the shift key) but that seems to make no difference. what do i do next? thanks!

  • My ipod turns off after 20 sec of any song

hi, just bought a nano 6gen this saturday and got my songs on it, but when i play anything it gives me a Music simbol then turns off like 20 sec after it.. cant even listen to one song...

The 1.1 update introduced a feature to help prevent people from depleting their battery by leaving it on without a headset connected. With the 1.1 update, if your nano does not detect a headset, it will pause playback when your screen goes off. This did not happen in 1.0 because the feature was not included in 1.0.
If you are finding that the nano pauses when the screen goes dark, it is because your headset has not been detected.
So the discussion needs to be about what would keep your headset from being detected. There are a few options:
Your headset is not inserted all the way. This solves the problem for most folks who experience it. If you see ANY silver of the headset jack when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted.
You have debris in your headset jack. This is the second most common problem when folks experience this. At least that seems to be the case for the folks who post what solved their problem. Look into your headset jack. The thing that senses if your headset is fully seated is at the bottom of the jack. You can have a small piece of paper in there that lets you fully insert the headset but still prevents the headset from being detected because it blocks the connection. You end up with the nano pausing when the screen goes dark. How you are going to clean out your headset jack is up to you. Some folks here have reported they had to use cotton and alcohol others have said just plowing into the jack got the stuff out. One of my sons got the little round piece of paper from a hole punch stuck in his headset jack and it caused this.
Your headset jack or plug are broken. Finally, if your headset jack or the plug are faulty, then this could happen.
If you get through item 2 and your problem is still happening, you need to go to the Apple store. If you headset jack is bad, you can't fix it.

  • Comp. turns off after 2 sec!!

Ok, this is a fairly long and complicated problem. Please read through these. Thanks in advance!
Ok, well, i just got my K7ND Delta-L mobo today and after I put every thing into it, I turn on my pc. Well for about 1 second it looks like everything will be ok, but suddenly, it turns off. If I unplug the power suppy and plug it back in, I can try to turn it on again, but it does the same thing. Power light for a short while, then off. The power supply is 425 Watts. So I'm thinking maybe it's that power supply so I change it with a 300 Watt one that works flawlessly (as it was just in a comp i was using today) same thing happens. I've got everything pluged in (video card, power to mobo, power to cpu, cpu fan, ram, both ide drives, extra usb, and all the little led lights and switches). It looks like the power supply is working because the lan lights on the back are both lit up. So now I'm thinking that maybe the power supply isn't big enough. Is the power supply not big enough, do I get a new one or change the voltage on it from 115V to 230V?
    My specs:
    AMD Athlon XP 2700+
    Crucial PC 3200 DDR Ram
    Western Digital 80GB HDD
    Polaroid BurnMax 40X CD-RW Drive
    ATI All-in-Wonder 9600Pro
    MSI K7N2 Delta-L nForce2 motherboard
    Thanks in advance!
I have rephased the problem at the bottom of this thread.

i had some expirenced builders (3 of them) at my house and they failed to fix the problem.
    Here is the problem rephrasd:
I have plugged everything into my motherboard (Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe) and
double checked the connections and the jumpers but when I press power
button, the pc starts for 2 seconds and shuts off. The processor is an AMD
2700+. I have taken it down to just the processor and ram but same thing
happens. I have tryed getting help on message boards (
    http://bildeau.go-gaia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=672944&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
    and
    http://cgi.techtv.com/messageboards?action=whole_thread_view&board_id=17&topic_id=73&thread_id=2557827&per_page=50
I have also tryed an MSI K7N2 Delta-L motherboard and switched out an
AMD 2800+ and new ram and have tryed a total of 3 power supplies (the
newest one is an Enermax EG465 that outputs 33A on the 12V Rail, and 35A on the 5V rail and 35 on the 3.3V rail) in both mother boards and tryed powering
up, but the same thing happens. Power goes on and the fans spin for maybe
1.5 seconds and then they stop spinning. No bios screen or anything
appears on the monitor, no beeps. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • IMac turns off after it turns on

Quick question on what might be a problem with an iMac G3 350Mhz. I hit the power button, the green light comes on, the hard drive starts to spin, about 1 second, everything shuts off. Can't really figure out where I might start (Power supply, bad Power Switch). Works the same if I hit the power button on the front of the unit or on the keyboard.
    Any suggestions?

I'm no whiz at this, but I have a suggestion: back-up any data you don't want to lose or you may be paying for a transfer sometime soon onto a new computer. Recently, my iMac G3, bought in 2000 and on its second HD, "popped" with a flash of light from the base when I turned it on. After that, my screen would appear an electric green color and then would shut down within a second, just like yours did. Turned out that my analog board blew and it would cost over $400-$500 to get it replaced. With a six year-old computer's potentially escalating problems at stake, I decided to buy a brand-spanking new iMac 5,2. Hated to spend all that $$$, but I'm enjoying it, especially since I got DSL, too!
If your problem is fixed with the PRAM battery, good for you; but still, back up your data.

  • 10.6: Internet Sharing turns off after restart

I use Internet Sharing on my iMac to share the Ethernet connection from my computer wirelessly to my iPod touch. In Leopard, Internet Sharing would turn off after a restart. Snow Leopard fixed the problem for a while, but now it's acting up again. Any help?

Using MacOS X 10.6.2 I have the same problem.
My network configuration is just the other way around (wireless Internet and Ethernet LAN).
Looking this up in Google first, I came across this older support link of Mac OS X 10.2:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21168?viewlocale=en_US
The solution provided there is not really helping though.
However, it appears that this is a recurring issue Apple is struggling already longer with. Hope they straighten that out at one point.

  • IMac turns off by it self and does not want to turns on later, do i have to feel the fan at the back?

1.- The imac turned off by it self.
2.- I tried to turned on pressing the turn on/off button and it did not do anything.
3.- I disconected the computer form the wall and wait for some minutes, and it did no do anything.
4.- After about 20 minutes i tried again and turned on by pessing the on and off button.
5.- The imac turned off again and disconected form the wall and conected to another electrical contact at the wall, adn it did not turned on.  i wait for some minutes and turned on again, but after about five minutes it turned off again.
6.- I left the imac connected to the wall for a couple hours and i tried to turned onn by pessing the on/off button and it did not turned on.
7.- I left all night connected form the wall and tried to turn it on this morning and it did not turn on.
8.- This time, I only disconnected the imac cord form the back of the computer and left it for a couple of hours, then I concected and turned on
9.- All the times that the computer turned on it started like a restart and no announce or windows appear telling me about an error or something like that.
10.- One of the times I touched the computer at the back and felt it hot, not too hot, but I do not how normal is.
11.- I can feel some very, very little air at the back form the vent.
What do I hve to do?
What kind of tests can I do to know if the computer's an is working ok?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • G5 Turns off after 10 minutes

My iMAC G5 just turns off after about 10 minutes. I had trouble with the power supply a few years ago and I replaced it and everything was great. Now it just turns off after about 10 minutes and I am wondering if the power supply is acting up again. Do these things have a problem like this? It was easy to replace, so I can just do that again if that will fix the problem. But I don't want to just start changing out parts and still have the problem. Is the power supply a problem with this model?

More info on the iMAC. The processor is 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 the memory is 1 GB DDR SDRAM running Mac OS X Version 10.5.3. Buss speed 600 MHz, Number of CPUs 1. I just took it apart and cleaned the dust out to see if that will help. We will see.

  • Yoga display turns off after 1 minute

I'm having an annoying problem with my new Yoga related to the display and have not seen any other posts with a similar complaint so perhaps this is a simple fix that I'm just not able to sort out on my own. My display turns off after 1 minute of inactivity. The only means for changing behavior like this that I am aware of is through the Control Panel Power Options. My settings for "turn off the display" are 10 minutes on battery and Never while plugged in (note screen shot attached). Regardless of my settings, the screen turns off after 1 minute. I've changed the settings to multiple configurations and restarted with no change in behavior. Perhaps there's some other settings area, maybe something specific to Lenovo that I'm not aware of (since this is my first Lenovo laptop). Anyone with similar problems or insight?

This may be a Windows 8 issue. I finally fixed this problem by identifying the screen saver as the issue (and I wasn't using a screen saver). Type "lock the computer" into the search box after clicking the search charm, which brings up the screen saver dialog box. Mine was set to 1 minute, though I'd never set it myself. If you can't change it, choose a screen saver and you should be able to do so (and can then switch back to no screen saver). BUT, here's the problem. Other things you install (or settings within things you install) can apparently change and override whatever you type in for the delay time. Try applying your new time and exiting from the dialog box, then open it back up again. I was finding that it kept going back to 1 minute. To reset things so that you can get control again, type "user accounts" into the search box and when the dialog box comes up, choose "Reset Security Policies". Then you can go back to the screen saver dialog and successfully change the delay time. • Screen turns off after a few minutes and needs to be closed then opened

hi, as the title suggests my powerbook screen turns off after a few minutes before my screensaver is set to come on and when i come back and press a key or move the pad it wont start up so i need to close the powerbook then open it up again for it to activate. its not a huge problem but my programs which connect to the internet seem to lose their connection when i open it up again. is this normal? is there a setting i can change?
    thanks

Is there a way to "disable" Standby, Suspend and Off just when watching movies (in fullscreen or not)? I want them to do what they usually do in all other cases.
Setting them to 0 in xorg.conf does the thing, but I need that functionality only when I'm wathing movies. Making a script that alters adjustments in xorg.conf isn't the best solution - you'd have to restart X every time you want to watch a movie .
    Cheers,

If what Allen says does not fix the issue I have seen this as a Hardware issue and I would get into an Apple Store if it is close by

  • MacBook turns off after the startup bong when trying to restart

    Greetings,
When I try to restart my MacBook it turns off after the startup bong.

Have you tried resetting the System Management Controller? That is a good first step for power related issues such as this.
    Best of luck.

  • TS1363 apple sign shows up and then turns off after a few seconds, and i can not connect to my itunes

apple sign shows up and then turns off after a few seconds, and i can not connect to my itunes

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.
