IMAC USB BUS

I have encountered a scenario where multiple video webcasting softwares will not work with 3 AGENT V5 usb webcams at once. Wirecast (software) tech has indicated to me it is (probably is) my IMAC's usb bus cannot handle the 3 camera's streaming at once and this is why I am only able to see 2 AGENT V%'s and my isight at ONCE in Wirecast options. This happens to ring true to me based on differing scenarios I have tried with Photobooth, Camtwist, BoinxTV.
I was wondering if anyone has the math that would allow me to verify if the reason above is in fact the source of my problem? (I mac usb bus capability).
I have 4 usb connectors on my new IMAC, they should all be able to be used at once...apparently not?
Any thoughts?

I have nothing technical to add to Dah•veed's good comments, but one of these might be of interst.
(1) If your multiple camera setup is for security purposes, you may be able to use your existing system with different software such as http://www.securityspy.com/ that uses a timelapse feature to reduce bandwidth requirements.
(2) If your requirement is for actual streaming video, perhaps reducing the frame rate and dimensions of the video images might give you access to the additional streams you need. If you have not already considered them, it is possible that Apple's QuickTime Broadcaster and Streaming Server might be worth considering:
  • http://www.apple.com/quicktime/streamingserver/
They may not be easy to use, but they offer very powerful, professional-level, capability.
(3) If you do not already know whether the problem is with limits internal to your Mac or might be related to your streaming connection's available bandwidth, you can check the latter for comparison against what you are paying for by using http://speedtest.net/

  • Imac usb ports stopped working?

i was using a new 10 usb hub, imac said something about draining power and then froze now only one of the three usb ports worked.
i have reset PRAM and SMC
completely unplugged power and still the two ports do not work..any help

Hi, is his what you tried...
reset FW bus, same goes for USB reset...
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

  • FireWire 800 and USB bus failure

I am trying to resolve an ongoing issue with my iMac. External storage devices will not stay mounted. I have had data corruption and several drive failures that I believe are attributable to the sudden loss of connection to the computer. It can not be that all my drives – there have been five – are faulty. My newest drive, an OWC Mercury Elite Pro connected to the FireWire 800 bus, is beginning to exhibit the same behavior, and this drive is less than a month old.
What possible explanations are there for a FireWire or USB bus to suddenly drop a connected hard drive?
    Thanks in advance.

Simplest explanation? Your iMac has a hardware failure. Take it in for service. It's probably NOT a software issue but a hardware failure.
Can we assume you have tried new or different cables?

  • Problems with multiple USB devices. (Possible Low Power on USB Bus)

I believe I'm having an issue with the USB bus or one of my devices that I have installed on my iMac.
I purchased this iMac along with a printer (HP C4280 All-in-One) as part of a promotion deal. I also have wireless logitech USB mouse, and iPhone and an 80gb 5th Gen iPod.
My problem has to do with syncing the iPod and iPhone. Normally I have the printer attached to the iMac along with the USB mouse. Both devices function as expected. However I have problems when I connect the iPhone or iPod.
iPod Symptoms: When I connect the iPod the iPod screen shows the flashing red circle with a line but iTunes never launches and the iPod never syncs.
iPhone Symptoms: When I connect the iPhone the iPhone screen says Sync in Progress and iTunes does show the iPhone in the list of devices but a dialog appears giving me one of two messages (that I've seen so far) - [msg 1] Your iPhone is corrupt please disconnect then reconnect to restore. [msg 2] iPhone device timed out.
I've been dealing with this problem for a couple months and found that if I disconnect the printer (HP C4280) then connected either other device then everything works just fine.
I downloaded XCode 2.5 and launched the USB Prober utility. Then plugged in each device in turn and found some interesting findings.
When connecting the iPhone (1st attempt) the USB Logger reported; (iTunes displayed msg 1 from above)

I'm suspicious of the USB Low Power Notice. If this is true then I suspect the my iMac might need some type of repair. However I am also suspicious of USB Device violating the USB Spec Error. Although this is the message that appears when I plug in the iPhone or iPod I don't think I can assume that error relates to the iPod or iPhone. The error doesn't specify which USB Device is in violation.
My current workaround is to unplug the printer every time I sync the iPhone or iPod which is cumbersome. I'm also worried that repeated connecting/disconnecting of USB plug for the printer will over time damage the USB port.
I'm not sure what options I have here. Can anyone provide some suggestions or information that might provide some insight.
    Best Regards,
    xgnomex

A-Ha! Now I'm feeling like my 1.5 hours of reading this forum are not wasted, since I've found others with similar symptoms.
I've only had my iMac for two weeks today. I've got some new accessories & have experimented with the ones I've had awhile (various USB external drives). My model has 3 USB ports, one of which is taken by the keyboard, of course.
Over the weekend, I picked up an MS Office 2008 Upgrade and also an HP Officejet Pro L7680 all-in-one. I only mention the Office upgrade because I installed it on the same day as the printer, but it's possibly unrelated.
I actually have a Belkin 4-port hub--not the same one suggested in this thread, but externally powered with it's own A/C adapter. (It's a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 r-Port Hub, model F5U234 Rev.3, and I used it with a previous iMac G3 CRT with no problem.)
So with a LaCie 100 GB USB Mobile Drive in one of the iMac's ports, and the HP L7680 in the iMac's third port, or the HP via the Belkin hub in iMacs the third hub, here are some of the symptoms I've seen:
    1) while browsing in Firefox, suddenly the mouse-cursor will "freeze" (get stuck) in a pull-down selector...sometimes it unfreezes, but eventually (like on the next pull-down menu) the keyboard & mouse will shut off (and if you wait & the iMac goes to sleep, the keyboard won't let me enter my unlock password when I wake the iMac with the Apple Remote)
    2) when trying to open a document from the LaCie in MS Word, Word freezes and the keyboard & mouse go dead--terminal beachball--to restart the computer, I have to hold in the power button
    3) when trying to print a message in Mail, Finder freezes (though the print job does finish)
These symptoms seem strange! Hey, it's just supposed to work, right? But everything has limits, so my question becomes, "how much stuff can I hook up at once?"
I wonder if this Apple article is addressing this issue:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25243
especially when it says "Two high-bandwidth devices or two isochronous devices cannot be connected to a single Universal Serial Bus (USB)."
So only two hi-speed USB devices can be connected "to the same bus" simultaneously? I'm not entirely sure I understand what "isochronous" means, but I'm thinking I need to peel my printer off the USB somehow, maybe via Airport Express--?
Does anyone know for sure about USB limitations? Thanks.
Also, xgnomex, how/where did you find that "USB Logger"? Is that something iPhone-specific, or is it an OS X log in a Library somewhere?

  • Can an aftermarket display tax the USB bus?

I just had a very weird issue, I purchased a 22" samsung DVI display I got pretty cheap off of Ebay, I originally was using a 20" Cinema Display and love it, but I want like most of us I guess ,more real estate. The Samsung has no USB ports as the Apple display, which I guess for me is the first issue as I use a wireless keyboard connected to USB, A Digidesign MBox2 connected to USB a iLoc key and yeah, connected to USB AND my wireless USB aircard. I had to use my old Apple keyboard as a USB hub because I of course ran out of ports on the computer and no longer had any on the display, maybe that's my issue but I didn't think I had so much to load down the usb ports from the computer. My air card began acting erraically, my MBox2 died and upon reboot I got a message warning that USB device was no operational due to low power in the USB bus. Is my problem the fact that I don't have an additional powered USB hub anymore (cinema display)? or could the Samsung display be at fault? Going back to the 20" seems to have solved all my problems, so far. But I really want the larger size, However I don't want to spend on a USB hub unless I really have to.

    Hi-
Your Samsung is not at fault.
The hub in the Cinema Display has additional power, which helps with multiple devices.
Using the keyboard hub is no good with unpowered devices, as there is no additional power to the ports.
You just need a powered USB hub to connect all the other devices.

  • Is iSight using internal USB BUS in Bootcamp (win xp ) mode?

    Hello,
I am having issues with my musicall instrument that is plugged into Mac Book Pro 15" 2.0 Core Duo 1G RAM. The instrument is plugged into one of the USB port of MBP.
I would like to know if iSight in WinXP mode is using internal USB bus.
If it is, how can I disable it? Using device manager in Win xp?
    Thanks in advance,

Same problem here exactly. I can't do anything with this stupid message box because both mouse and keyboard are not responsive.
It used to work in the past, it probably stopped working after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Please, someone come up with a workaround !

  • USB Bus resets upon device removal?

    Hi everyone,
I recently encountered an issue where if I was using VMWare Fusion to burn a disc in Windows on my external USB writer, the USB Bus would reset and the burn would fail. I later found out that this was not just in VMWare, but it was happening in Toast as well. I was burning a disc in Toast, I plugged in my iPod, added some songs, and removed it. Right away the burn failed, it looks like the bus reset again. This happens every time and I can't use ANY USB devices while burning a disc to the external burner... it's quite frustrating. Anyone else encounter the same issue, and can vouch that it is a Leopard issue?
    Thanks,
    --Henry

I used to have this burner hooked up to a G5 and never had the issue before Leopard, so I believe Leopard's driver is improperly handling it.
    It's a Samsung Super Writemaster S128M.

  • Dropped Frames on Capture/ Adding extra USB buses to a G5

    Hello,
I am having trouble with dropped frames on capture. It is a problem I have dealt with many times. I always try to capture my media to some sort of external drive; It always seems to work fine until the drive fills up(to about 20 GB left), and then I start to get dropped frames problems. I've tried freeing up space on the drive, but once it starts it seems that even freeing up space doesn't fix the problem. I was told that adding a USB bus can fix this problem -OR- You can add an extra internal storage drive to the G5. Once upon a time I did the latter and it worked, but now I can not even capture onto my extra internal drive?
My capture attempts seem to get about 5 minutes before I get dropped frames.
Do you think that installing an extra Bus could fix this problem? If so what kind of Bus should I look for for a PowerMac G5?
I am running FCP 4.5, Mac OSX 3.9, Quicktime 7(In the past this has not been an issue), I am using a Power Mac G5- two 160GB internal drives.
Much Thanks in Advance, the Help is always fantastic around here,
    Justin

A USB bus or a FW bus?
Because USB drives are not fast enough to sustain capture.
Adding a PCI Firewire card from a place like Sonnettech may work.

  • How to put computer to sleep or reset USB bus from Terminal?

I'm using Missing Sync to connect a Windows Mobile PocketPC to my Mac for synchronizing data. Occasionally, as soon as I plug in the USB cable, the whole system gets hung. My mouse and keyboard don't work, but I can get into the system via SSH from another machine. Once I'm in, is there anything I can do that's more graceful than using the button on the front of the Mac to shut it off? For example, can I get it to sleep (and then wake up) from terminal? Maybe that will reset things. Or maybe there's a way to re-init the USB bus from terminal. Any suggestions? I hate shutting it off via the button - what's the better way, once it gets hosed like that?
    Mike

There may be other processes you can kill instead (or in addition), but without
seeing more about the state of the machine it's hard to tell.
what information would you want to see about the state of the machine? Is there something in the console log that I can post? I'd like to be ready with all of the possible KILLs when this happens again... In general, what processes do I kill to reset stuff without a hard reset? Logging me out of the account is fine; a graceful software reboot is ok too - I just hate the cold shutdown from the power button.
    Thanks!
    Mike

  • USB bus failure at random on Mac Pro 3,1

    Early 2008 2x2.8 Ghz Quad
    Mac Pro 3,1
Since I upgraded to (the latest version of) Mavericks (from 6.8) I'm getting random indefinite USB bus hangs. Frequency: Every 1 to 3 days. Does not seem related to any kind of process. Most of the time it's happening while the computer is idling, but not necessarily. Apparently that's just because I'm more off than on on average.
What's going on? All of a sudden, all USB input hardware becomes unresponsive, but not without power. Can't toggle caps lock. Mouse freezes (but light is still on), graphic tablet won't work. Even when connecting without a hub. However, the system is not frozen and reacts with a dialog box when touching the reset button. But a hard reset is the only option at this point.
I read about USB problems, but not like this!
    Please advise.

It seems that a wired mighty mouse was at fault. Its track ball / scroll wheel was defect after two months (as it happened with so many mighty mice before) and after I replaced it with a different brand the USB freeze never happened again.

  • Which iMac usb port is high power?

Which iMac USB port is high power?

I'm not sure this is the case, at least on the newer iMacs. Some ports will adequately power some devices (most notable the USB Suerdrive) while others won't. Or, this has been the case recently, anyway; USB with Apple devices seems hopelessly arcane anyway, which makes no sense at all!)

  • What is the difference between USB bus and USB high-speed bus?

anything that i plug into the USB ports that registers in the USB high-speed bus does not show up on the desktop. i have tried different devices and none work when the system profiler show them in the high-speed bus. anything i plug into the USB that registers in USB bus works just fine. what is going on here?

I've got a couple of SanDisk memory card readers. Nothing shows up on the desktop until a formatted card is inserted in the reader. If it's not formatted, I believe it can be formatted in Disk Utility.
