We have an iMac 21.5", and we want to do video editing using SDI interface, and audio capture using XLR.
The device we are going to connect is Blackmagic Atem 1 Production Switcher

My audio interface is a TC Electronic Konnekt 24D
my video interface is a Canopus ADVC 110
my hard drives are plugged in firewire too
and I use Final Cut Pro 5.0.4
So, the konnekt is recognized by FCP only when the Canopus is not plugged. And even then, the audio sometimes drop out and sometimes causes the app to crash, so that I have to trash the preferences
When I plug the Canopus, the Konnekt 24D is recognised by OS X but not FCP
I want to use the voice over tool with the konnekt 24D, so what should I do ?
Does 2 firewire audio and video interface can work together ?
If so, maybe I only have a driver problem from TC Electronic.
But if not, I have to change this interface. Let me know if only RME, MOTU, Presonus and Edirol work, as it is said on apple's webpage for hardware compatibility

Ok. So an audio interface can be plugged to FCP without crashing the app. Because of the Konnekt driver problem, I wasn't shure of this.
I use my Aja box for export & external monitoring.
All my audio sources run back into the Tascam and I
use the analog mixer in the 1082 to monitor different
sources.
When I view external video, the audio follows it to
keep sync.
that's exactly what I want with other I/O interfaces. I'd like to monitor video with the canopus ADVC 110, and monitor audio with the Konnekt 24D (or another interface if this one is not compatible)
I also imput dailies with a deck or a camera (DV or HDV) but that's not the point here.
I want to imput audio with the Konnekt 24D because of its audio quality. Not audio sync to video dailies. But voice over, in sync with FCP video playback (for me, tha ADVC 110)

I'm using a custom kernel. (2.6.23.8) For my xorg config I need a /proc/acpi/video interface (the nvidia driver need this interface).
I searched in the kernel config, but in Power Management / ACPI there isn't a "Video" Option.
How can I active this interface?

Hello,
I had the same problem a while back. You have to go into Device Drivers / Graphics Support, and turn on the first option, "Backlight & LCD device support". Under that option, choose "Lowlevel backlight controls". At this point, the video option should magically appear in the ACPI section.
Works for me. There may other dependencies I don't know about.

No, the SD slot will not work, you need an ExpressCard/34 slot.
I do not know if it works with cameras, but with two or more HDs, if the first one has two FW ports, you can "daisy chain" one or more additional HDs from it.

PCI Video Interface Card for Mac Pro/FCP

Could someone please recommend a PCI Video Interface card for my Mac Pro? I'm looking for something that will capture in Beta SP, as well as support HD-SDI (bnc connector) -- does such a card exist?

Problem hanging on DLED "Initializing Video Interface"

I've tried two different AGP video cards. One an ATI 9800 PRO 256mb which is new. The other an nVidia based card which is known to work. On either, the system stops booting displaying the 3 reds 1 green that indicate it was initializing the video interface.
This is a new K8N Neo2 Platinum. I've re-seated the cards, double checked power, etc., still no go.
Anybody have problems during this part of the boot up?

No joy. Tried re-seating it in slot 1, no change. Moved it to the other green slot, 3, no change. I did put the 9800 Pro in another box to test it, and it worked fine, as well as a different monitor/cable (which both work on the other box). None of it made a difference. I've unplugged pretty much everything from the mobo except for power & switches, and that hasn't changed anything. Think it's possible the mobo is DOA?

KT4V board having "Initializing Video Interface" problems

I can not get anything to display on the monitor. I was using an ATI Radeon 9550 PRO 128 MB and I thought that was the problem so I installed a GeForce 6200 256MB card and I am having the same problem. No video to my screen. Everything else boots up but I can't see anything.
I have the D-Bracket 2 installed that came with the board and it gives me an immediate indicator using a light pattern that my problem is: "Initializing Video Interface - This will start detecting CPU clock, checking type of video onboard. Then, detect and intitalize the video adapter." I get the same light pattern even when I don't have my video card in.
Could there be something wrong with my AGP slot? Do AGP slots burn out on motherboards?

Did you uninstall the old video card drivers before trying the new video card? Can you boot into safemode OK? If you can then you can run driver cleaner if the following suggestions fail.

Try booting the system with only one stick of memory if you have two and then try the other one if the first one doesn't make a difference.
You can also try clearing the cmos by removing the AC cord from the power supply, pressing the power button to clear any residual electricity from the system and then moving the cmos jumper to the clear position. Leave it for about a minute and then put it back into the hold position (pins 1&2) before reconnecting the AC cord and powering the system back up. Go into the bios and set the correct date and time. Save and exit.
AGP slots are like any other piece in the computer. They can fail but it is rare. Is there anything down inside the slot that might keep the video card from being fully seated?

Freeze At Initializing Video Interface

I reently purchased an MSI 848P mobo, and a p4-2.4, i have a 420 psu, and an Ati Radeon 9800, The board will lock up on Initializing Video Interface acording to the D-Bracket, I have tried everything, changing psu's ram, reseating ram, vid card, cpu, power connections, and nothing, i've tried the card in other computers and they post fine, with the exception of one other msi board that also is brand new but of the athlon 64 variety, i have an ati 7000 that i am running right now and it works fine, and yes the molex connector is plugged into the vid card. Any help would be much appreciated

Yes, 5.9 "should" have all the extra fixes, that previous bioses have.
I would also check with ATI/Maker of your card if there is a firmware update.
I borrowed a ATI based 9800 card and placed in 848P Neo S 1.7 bios...... booted no worries. (Have demo of Doom3, what difference.......) Spex as below but diff mainboard.........

K8N Neo 2 Platinum Hangs at "Initializing Video Interface"

When I try to boot I get three reds in the diagnostic LEDs
LED 1 - Red
LED 2 - Red
LED 3 - Red (used to be orange)
LED 4 - Off
This corresponds (at far as I can tell based upon the manual) to a problem during "Intializing Video Interface." I've reset the CMOS, twice, reseated the CPU, and reseated the video card. I think I can hear the HDD spin up getting ready to boot, but my fans are so loud it makes it hard to tell for sure. Anyone experience a similar problem or have a solution?

I'm looking at the Elgato Video Capture Interface to use with my iMac to transfer both audio and video from Record LP's, Casette Tapes, and VHS. Wondering if anyone had any experience with getting this unit to capture just audio from an analog source?

Get the Grassvalley ADVC300.
I've played around with countless other conversion systems, ranging in price from $79 to $399. Short verison, this is the ONLY unit to own. No dropped frames at all, even with questionable quality tapes, no jitter, great color, excellent sound quality. Zero setup with iMovie 06 and iDVD 09/11.
This is a prosumer deck. The time code function is alone worth the price if you have old analog footage. Absolutely NO "Out Of Sync" audio.
ADVC300 is for anyone who wants to do editing and is concerned about quality of color and speed, for the novice it is an incredible gizmo that will restore VHS tapes to a state close to the original fixing midtones, highlights and shadows on the fly. Not only can you simply convert analog to digital you can actually manipulate the signal going in (if you want to).
A bit pricey but it WORKS.
The program that comes with the ADVC300 has some nice filters that can improve video and audio of the source material.
I would use iMovie 06 with iDVD 09/11. VERY easy and 100% "lossless"
Now for the bad news.
This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer. The included software (which is not really necessary but does enhance performance) is not compatible with OS 10.7 or newer.
You can still find the ADVC300 for sale in a few outlets as well as eBay. It will sell between 50% and 100% ABOVE its retail price. Yes, it's that good.
After lots of experimenting I get the best results using OS 10.6, iMovie 06, and iDVD 09/11. My movies look just like Hollywood!
My primary computer is a Mac Pro, so I just use one of the four hard drives and boot OS 10.6. You can also partition a single hard drive to achieve the same results.
This may seem like more trouble than you want to go through. However, I find the superior quality to be well worth it.

IMac video through AV amp to Plasma?

Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on the following problem I'm having.
First of all the kit I'm using:
Intel Core Duo 2 iMac (17 inch),
Denon AVR-1906 AV Receiver,
Panasonic PWD8 42' Plasma,
Apple mini DVI to VGA adapter,
VGA to Component Video Lead.
I'm trying to connect my iMac to the Denon AV amplifier to feed the video signal out of the iMac via the mini DVI to VGA to the component-in on my AV receiver then to my plasma.
So far I'm drawing blanks as when I connect the mini DVI to VGA adapter to my iMac, the iMac isnt seeing a display as connected (even though its connected at the other end to my AV receiver which is on and connected to my plasma).
Anyone know if this works or should I just remove the AV amp from the connection and go straight from the iMac to the plasma (which I know works)?

Thanks for that, that makes sense, the more I think about them ore I think its not going to work.
As the VGA cable connected to the iMac (via DVI) is using only 3 of the D sub pins (one for red, green and blue) there's no way of the iMac detecting that there is a display connected.
Unless of course I can 'fool' the iMac into thinking something is connected, maybe at a software level. is this possible?

Some info sources say that a linux app can be provided which will permit the DVC80 to respond to NTSC video camera input.
The DVC80 operates well in windows, permitting capture in Irfanview and a program called Dazzle.

usbvision-0.9.6 is the first prerelease of the 1.0 driver. I did many changes in the code and I hope I
didn't break working features on different devices. The decompression is completed. Just from time to
time there are some black or white error pixels in the image on slower machines. Maybe it is a timing problem
in the isoc interrupt routine. We stay a third of the time in interrupt and so it is likely, that the parser
is called twice. Let me cleanup the routine for performance, move the parser to user-context and add a lock.
For 2.6x kernels we can use the saa7111 from the kernel tree, so the make will not compile the saa7111-new
for these kernels. The bt819-new.c is not coded to 2.6. kernel yet.
I have tested the driver with kernel 2.6.1, 2.6.2 to 2.6.7 with devices "Hauppauge WinTV USB FM 1" and
"Pixelview PlayTV USB Pro FM" on a 600MHz PII system.

Here is the setting to get the TV tuner working with mplayer. It does software video scaling, so you can have full screen mode with the USBVision driver.

As described it is a PAL device. There are options for TV included.
I am interested in single frame capture and video stream capture via the camera input connectors(NTSC-stereo audio). My camera is a PIXERA and has video NTSC output.
The following is reference to the USBVISION tar.gz which seems to require ZORAN in the kernel. It used to be called ZORAN/NOGATECH.
It would seem necessary to enable ZORAN in the latest kernel in order to implement the device. Other requirements are likely as well.
Perhaps a pkg could be built but certainly seems a big challenge!
My DVC80 is recognized in USB.
Hopefully, it can be done in arch!

It worked bad with out of box Windows 7.
But after all updates it works very well and stable.
A nice thing is that it has little USB extender cable included. So it is less harmful for laptop usb port.

IMac Video Card in 20" and 24"

Hello,
I want to thank everyone in advance for posting here.
I am deciding between the 24" and 20" iMac but will be doing the video card upgrade regardless of which system I buy.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the upgrade options (nvidia geforce 1600 gt in the 24" and the ATI Radeon X1600?
My primary applications of use are Final Cut Pro 5, DVD Studio Pro 4, and Adobe Photoshop CS2. I don't care about render time, except for in Photoshop.
If anyone can help...please do. I recognize they both have the same VRAM, but if there wasn't a difference, they wouldn't be different upgrade options.

Actually, if you look at the specs at the online Apple store, you will see that the 20" offers the x1600 with a choice of 128 or 256MB of video ram. The 24" offers the Nividea 7300 w/128MB or the 7600 with 256. IF you are going to be doing video editing and photography, I would get the upgraded model no matter what system you get. Though it may be theoretically possible, it will be very impractible to upgrade the card later. You will need the ram,especially if you want to play any games,or get into Aperature for photo management and processing as well as CS2 also, I think it would also impact video editing as well.
BTW, the 24" screen is great.

24" iMac Video Problem on Window XP

I brought 2 units of 24” iMac last month and using boot camp to install windows xp. Both iMac are completed the installation of window xp and one of the iMac run normally but video problem found on second iMac. After running in window xp about 5 – 10 mins, the screen images distort suddenly. If computer restart again, the display will become normal for 5-10 mins and distort again. But the second computer runs normally in Mac OS. Please kindly help….
