IMac voltage from Europe to USA

Can I use the iMac I bought in holland about four years ago in America? I had it shipped over here but am unsure if it will work. Do I need a step up transformer or any other accessory to make it work or do I have to get a new iMac? If so, any advice as to where to buy these things would be very much appreciated. I also noticed some peopletalking about an issue with frequency (from 50hz to 60hz in the states. Is this also an issue?
Thanks a lot.

You're very welcome. The Apple Store answer sounds confusing to me. The Apple website says any voltage between 100-240 is OK. Why would they say it wouldn't work for long with a transformer if the website implies no transformer needed? The internal power supply handles that. Even if it was a US iMac headed to Europe it seems it would transform internally. I'm not asking you to answer but just thinking out loud. We lived in Japan (100V) with no problems taking Macs over there.  Devices without the auto sensing/variable power supplies were problems. If you plug a Japanese hair dryer which expects only 100V into a US outlet (plug prongs are the same, w/o 3rd ground prong) at 110-120V it would run ~11% hotter and faster and wear out sooner, but if you plug a US hair dryer (which expects 110-120) into a Japanese outlet which only supplies 110V it runs that much cooler temp and slower fan speed. Lasts longer but doesn't dry as fast. I imagine if you plugged a US dryer into an 220-240V European outlet (but you can't directly b/c plug prongs don't match) it would fry pretty quickly. Do you know any military folks you could ask?

Hi.  I will be happy to answer your question regarding making a call using a Wifi connection.  There is no application that comes with the phone that will allow you to do so.  All calls can only be made through our 3G network.   You can also check the application market on your phone to see if you see an application that fits your needs.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
    Thanks!

  • Apple TV from Europe to USA?

About a year ago I purchased an Apple TV here in Belgium.  I am now relocating back to the USA.  Can I simply bring this Apple TV with me to the USA or is it only good in Belgium?  I have a couple months before I move permanently, but would like to know (if possible) this week as I am returning from Belgium to the USA and could bring this unit back with me and give it a try if it is OK to do that license and hardware-wise.
    Thanks for any comments!

  • Relocation to US from Europe with iMac 24"

Hi there. May be its a stupid question, but for me its important. I have a iMac 24" from End 2008. I live currently in Dubai, UAE and have there a iMac with European PowerCable.
I will be relocate to Germany soon and than my company plan to send me to the USA for my next job. With my MacMini, my MacBook and my Apple TV I dont see problems with the power, cause they have external power supply, but does anybody know if I get in trouble with my iMac?
Or is the only thing I need to buy a Adapter or new PowerCable? The reason for the question is the different voltage of 110 V in the US and 220 V in Europe and Middle East.
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Uwe

    Hello u:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
There are no stupid questions.... answers yes, but not questions.
This link is to the iMac technical specifications for your system:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP507l
Note that the line voltage is 100-240.
It would appear to me that an adaptor or new power cord would work just fine. I used to travel quite a bit and -a loose comparison.... all of my US purchased devices (camera charger, electric razor) worked fine in Europe with an adaptor (same voltage range). If it were me, I would probably buy a new power cord.

  • Ibook from Europe VS. ibook from USA

Hi there!! I was wondering if there is a difference from and ibook coming from europe and one's here in the usa? I'm asking because I was looking on ebay and there is an ibook for a good price that I was thinking of purchasing but its coming from Europe.

As said, the difference is the power cable and/or plug.
There's a standard connector fitting for the adapter. Both my iBooks came with a "travel" plug as well as a longer cable that fits into the connector.
Earlier versions of the US cable were only 2 prong. The latest versions of the adapter have a metal peg that appears to be connected to the neutral wire in the extension cable. The cable that comes with them is 3 prong. Then there's a smaller fitting with a two-prong plug that's closed to put away, or opens and locks extended. It's a bit annoying that it's not in any locked position closed, and make jiggling sounds.
You might be able to find just the plug. There are also aftermarket adapters on the market.
The "Apple World Travel Adapter Kit" is supposed to come with a North American plug. The comlete adapter comes with the North American plug and cable.

  • How to submit my iphoto keepsake book order from Europe & receive it in USA

Does anyone know if I could submit my iphoto book order from europe and receive the printed books in USA?
Does anyone know if I try to submit my iphoto book order from Ireland with my macbook and my apple ID created in USA, to which countries Apple would allow me to receive the finished books?
So far, I do know that if I try to submit my iphoto book order from California, the only shipping addresses that I could enter must be either in USA or Canada.

  • Safari Google giving me results from Europe more than USA

I have notice in the past few weeks that when I google from Safari that most of my results are coming from europe and canada and just a few are from the USA some do not even use the roman alphabet.
    How do I fix this?
    Leon

    Hi Leon
are you accessing google from the built-in google search within Safari - or going to a google page & then entering your search terms?
either way - I guess you're using google.com? ( check the url or the results page )
At the top of the results page - to the right of the 'search' button..... you should see a "preferences" link - click that & see if any of the options are set differently to how you'd like ( you can exclude pages not in English, for example ) . Save those prefs & try google again.
If you still have no joy - use Safari-Preferences-Security-Show Cookies & find/remove any that relate to google. Then click 'Done' & close the preferences. Did that get your results back to 'normal'?

  • Can I use an iPhone or iPad in USA bought from Europe?

I consider buying an iPhone and iPad from Europe. My problem is that I am going to study in the USA this year and I am not sure if the iPhone and the iPad will work outside my country.

Yes, they will work fine. But note, you have to get your iPhone unlocked by your carrier/provider beforehand.

  • 5K iMac Now Made in the USA?

Hi. The iMacs and all-in-ones are cool (cutest being the CC which I had before, wished it was still in my possession) but they are not that durable because of the heat and the tightness between parts as I've experienced before and now having bought two iMacs (GPU is garbled for the second time after the Apple Care replacement, placing it to 1 1/2 years only since the replacement). It's a good design but I'm almost over the iMac for being not that durable. If the Mac Pro and a possibility of 5K Cinema Displays come out (they say it'll only be 4k but you need 5k for the apps' interface), although very expensive, that'd be worth saving for instead but if the iMac 5k are made in the USA, that'd probably make me give it a another go coz' not Made in China could increase its' build quality. If anyone's got their iMAc 5k, if it's ok to check, is it Made in the USA now?
    Thank you in advance. Rev.21:4

  • Publishing an iBook from Europe?

Pretty much stunned by the possibilities of iBook Author and couldn't wait to write my own interactive book. I started writing and halfway through I decided to see how the proces of publishing would go. Now it seems like it is only available to people living in the USA? I know that I can get a taxnumber from the IRS being an European resident, just as I would have no problem getting an ISBN number. In the country I live in, we have iBooks on the iTunes store and the iBook Author app on the appstore, so it's odd that it seems impossible to publish a book. (It's a paid book by the way).
Is there a way to publish a paid iBook 2 from Europe? Thanks!

  • I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I haven't used it in years, but I would like to start. What are my options for getting it up to date? Is it even worth the trouble/cost? I was hoping to at least get it running Snow leopard, if not Lion. Options?

I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I would like to start using it again, however it is so out of date and runs too slowly. What are my options to update it? I really don't want to invest a ton of money - I might as well get a new one, so if there are any reasonable ways to get it to run Snow Leopard or even Lion, please help. I've also considered using a mac mini? Is that worth it either? I'm not sure which way to go here. I don't want to trash it, I feel like it can be a great computer if updated.

Presumably it is running tiger 10.4.11?
It may be able to run Leopard 10.5:

But that is as far as the old PPC Macs can go, and Leopard can cost up to $200 on Amazon.

  • 790FX-GD70 not setting RAM to correct timing nor voltage from SPED

My 790FX-GD70 not setting RAM to correct timing nor voltage from SPED when set to auto. The RAM I have should be 6 6 6 20 @ 1.8V but the motherboard is setting it to 9 9 9 24 @ 1.5 V
    The RAM is   Crucial 2GB, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 memory BL25664BA1336 • DDR3 PC3-10600 • 6-6-6-20 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 of which i have two of then in the two black slots.
Just to rule out the RAM I also tried a different model of RAM whose timing is 7 7 7 24 @ 1.65 which will not allow to boot to windows unless I adjust the voltage manually to 1.70 (1.65 V will still not boot properly)  it sets it also at 9 9 9 24 yet this same sticks of RAM will set correctly in a MSI 770 C45 without any adjustments.
Now i will say in the case of the 790FX-GD70 I require no changes  in voltage for it to boot with the 1.8 V RAM just the timings are not as they should be. The 790FX-GD70 is stable as is and I will probably leave it at the auto settings  but wondered if anyone else  encountered similar issues with this board

Looks like this is a bit of an issue for some other users of your RAM and not necessarily a MSI thing! This user has a ASUS board! Good luck and hope you get it sorted out.
    Backround:
I bought some DDR3-1333 ram that was advertised as 6-6-6-20 @ 1.8v and, as expected, running on my board's default 1.5v it was only getting like 9-9-9-24. In fact, @ stock voltage the best I could boot up with (unknown stability) was 9-7-7. In an attempt to get the best (advertised?) performance I went ahead and manually set the timings to 6-6-6-20, left all other timings on auto, and upped the voltage to 1.8v
Boots up fine and appears to be stable. However, I do notice the RAM is fairly warm to the touch whereas @ 1.5v it was pretty benign heat-wise. I tried running 1.785v but 3 out of 4 times it would hang on the windows desktop display. So I bumped it back up to 1.8v and I'll run Memtest 86 or something else later tonight.
My question, being a noob and all...
Is running at 1.8v going to hurt something? (See my setup MB, and CPU stats)
Just to repeat, the box and manufacturer do list it as 1.8v spec. (FYI: BL25664BA1336)
