Imac vs air

what would be faster on the internet the base air or the aluminum imac 2.0 ghz 1 gb ram and 250 gb hd thanks

Hi, most of these questions asked are simply - info takers"" Retail stores get them on a daily basis, from my experience they are just looking" - No $s & little or no interest in a purchase in the foreseeable future. The best ? i was asked - I'm 19 & will need a computer when I'm 23 for work, which model would you suggest..this ? was asked in 2004..
Obviously quite rightly as you say the question is irrelevant as the 2 computers are completely different
in specs & designated usage... Of course to my mind the Air is better as it is portable etc etc.. Peripherals? just add a usb hub. Surfing the net -> one blink will divide the 2 -> somehow or other I doubt whether this type of debate will ever be settled, thats why Laptops, Desktops will both survive, as with most of us we have one of each...L (I feel better now)

I am changing to iCloud on my iMac, MacBook Air and my iPhone. My iMac and MacBook both moved over to iCloud but my iPhone when I go to Settings and click on iCloud it shows my Mail setting turned Off. When I turn it on it wants me to create a new email address to turn on iCloud Mail. I already have to "me" accounts plus another email address and don't want to create another one. I don't understand why it's asking me to do this on my iPhone but didn't ask on my iMac or MacBook and is there a way around creating another @me.com email address?

  • I need to work on documents in both my iMac and air book. But I have to download document and them upload it, and when I upload it I can't open it unless I open it on my phone first. Yet changes made on phone appear straight away. Does this make sense????

On your Macs open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Documents & Data, then reselect that box then restart your Macs.
On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud. Switch Documents & Data off then back on then reset the iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
See if you can open the files now without opening on the iPhone first.

  • How do i get apps from iMac to air

how do I get apps from imac to air. Just purchased an air

There are several ways to do it. The 'cleanest' way is to install them fresh on your Air. Anything you purchased from the Mac App store, you can install on your Air by logging into the App store with the same Apple ID.

    Hi vichochile,
If you are having an issue with syncing your new iPhone with the information that is in iCloiud (and on your other devices) we should make sure that iCloud is set up correctly on the iPhone. See this page for directions -

  • Exactly which mid 2011 iMacs are Air Play compatible?

How can I find out exactly which "mid 2011" iMacs are Air Play compatible? Mine was purchased July 29 2011. 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5.

Make sure your tv is updated to the 5.0.2 software level and you should see these options in System Preferences > Displays.   Check Show Mirror option in menubar and you'll see this icon:

a flashing folder with a question mark popped up,
Can mean that your Mac can't find a system folder to boot from.
Try restarting while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk and restart.
Startup Manager: How to select a startup volume
If the disk is not available, then it's failing or has failed.
If you did not backup your important files, an alternative would be data recovery but it's expensive.

  • ICal - I want my iMac, MacBook Air, and iPad to all "talk" and share iCal entries.  How can I get this to happen?

I am hesitant to run the Migration Assistant for this reason.  I just want to enter an appointment on my desktop iMac and for it to show up in iCal on both my MacBook Air and iPad as well.  Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Jo Beth

Once you configure iCloud preferences on your MBA it should automatically fetch your info from the cloud. Be sure that you set up your iCal account on the MBA.

  • IMac MacBook Air PowerPoint

Requesting help from the Community to problem solve this presentation problem:
I want to project a PowerPoint presentation from an iMac 7,1 to a digital projector, control the presentation by remote, and (this is the hard part) use my MacBook Air 3,2 at the podium to prompt me on the presentation with PowerPoint’s Presenter Tools page.
I’m running OS X Version 10.6.8 and PowerPoint 2008 on both computers. How do I connect the two computers and the projector? And how do I run the PowerPoint show from the iMac and the PowerPoint Tools page from the MacBook Air simultaneously?

I think I may have found the source of this problem, at least in my case. When I mount the Mac Pro's share on the client MacBook Air and do an "ls -la" in Terminal, I can see that the file owners listed for the remote files map to a different user than the one I'm using to connect to the Mac Pro. The reason for this is that, while I'm using the same credentials (username/password) on both machines, the associated user accounts have different UIDs on both machines. The user account on the Mac Pro has UID 501, on the MacBook Air it's 502 (501 is a test account I created during installation of the Air).
The problem is explained pretty well here:
    http://superuser.com/questions/249454/mac-os-10-6-shared-network-folder-problems
A fix for this issue is detailed here:
    http://www.inteller.net/notes/change-user-id-on-snow-leopard
I haven't gone through the procedure yet, but I'm pretty sure this is what's causing the problem. And while this UID issue may be intended behaviour under Unix-based systems, Mac OS and/or AFP are sure doing a bad job of handling it correctly.

  • MacBook Pro 13" vs 15" vs iMac + Macbook Air?

So, my Late-2011 15" Macbook Pro has finally run its course and I'm in need of a new computer.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure exactly where to start. I like a lot of the bells and whistles because I'm on my computer a lot, but I'm not sure how many of them I actually use, so I was hoping that I could get some advice about which set up is the most practical for my needs but gives a lot of bang for the buck.
I am both a writer and a current education major about to go into student teaching. As such I will be doing a lot of presentations and papers and will probably use Word and Internet the most on my computer. I also multitask A LOT, so it's pretty important that my computer is able to keep open five different apps with one of them being Chrome with 8 tabs open. I also have my entire iTunes library on my computer because I listen to music and audiobooks a lot and I also watch TV pretty frequently on my computer. I do some minor video editing for class as well as picture editing for fun.
I must have some amount of portability so I can take my laptop to class with me (we're required to have Apple laptops in my education class) but I really didn't mind carrying around the 15" Pro. Weight's not a huge issue for me. I also like to have portability so I can hang out with my roommates down in the living room and do homework with them. However, I also like a pretty good amount of storage so that I can store all of my word documents (and I have tons) as well as my presentations, my iTunes library, and my substantial picture and video libraries as well.
I want to have this computer for upwards of 4-5 years, so to some extent I'd like to have it future proof and really reliable.
With that said, I've come up with some options that I think might meet my needs.
1.) 15" Macbook Pro Retina: 2.5 GHz Quad Core; 256 GB Flash Storage; 16 GB RAM
2.) 15" Macbook Pro Retina: 2.2 GHz Quad Core; 512 GB Flash Storage; 16 GB RAM
3.) 13" Macbook Pro Retina: 2.8 GHz Dual Core; 512 GB Flash Storage; 8 GB RAM
4.) 13" Macbook Pro Retina: 2.8 GHz Dual Core; 512 GB Flash Storage; 16 GB RAM
5.) 21" iMac: 2.7 GHz Quad Core; 1 TB Fusion Storage; 8 GB RAM (AND) 11" Macbook Air: 1.4 GHz Dual Core; 128 GB Flash Storage; 4 GB RAM
So, yeah, which one is the most cost effective to meet my requirements?

    Hey There amyenne22,
There certainly are a lot of options for your computing needs ... based on your requirements above, I'd like to offer a few additional suggestions to consider.  I would suggest option 2 above as the 15" MacBook Pro is going to be your primary computer for school/work and the screen you will be looking at the most.  It is also a powerful video editing tool.
I would also suggest keeping your personal "entertainment" - music, photo and video libraries on an external portable drive (with a complete backup on a second local external drive).  This will free up the internal hard drive for your school/work documents.
Regarding option 5 above:  If you have a TV with HDMI, you can use it with an Apple TV to mirror what you see on your computer or iOS device to a larger screen. You really don't need to buy two computers.

  • Intel iMac macbook air

After 2.5 hours of migrating iMac info thru Airportto the Air, some features are unavailable on the Air: iphoto "can not be opened", and "can not load preferance pane" for Desktop & Screensaver, Spotlight, and Energy Saver.  Any ideas how I might get these features going again would be greatly appreciated.
Also, in checking Preference Panes(pains) I noticed the following and I'd not sure how to handle if at all. Some consequitive listings show the following extensions:  .plist  ,  .plist.lockfile  ,  .plist~orig    and I don't know if I should delete any or all of these. Could these files be in conflict?
Thanx from a "stranger in a strange land":  Tom in Japan

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • No connection between iMac and air-express time out default

My imac cannot support my airexpress, give the message time out

My own diagnosis is that the modem is not compatible with time capsule but I'd like to have a confirmation on this.
It would really help us if you could provide the manufactuer and model number of your modem.
it's possible that another user reading this post may have the same modem and be able to help, or we can check to get specifications and support documentation online if we know what you have. As of now, I'm afraid that we know nothing.

  • No problem with iMac, MacBook Air, but no joy with iPod touch

I switched ISP last week, and while I was able to link Mail with a MacBook Air, I hit disaster when I tried to do likewise with iPod Touch. I have my email with one ISP, but the new ISP gives me better broadband, and so I must use their SMTP. At first I had no problem as I inserted the correct Incoming and outgoing settings. Now I can't get past the first step of the new account box. That box throws up a webmail address I never had, and an Stmp I dispensed with last week. When I proceed to insert the correct settings, I get a message that my email service won't work. At my wits end with this. Can anyone help? Please.
