IMac vs. MacBook

I know that the iMac and MacBook can bee customized so that they are almost equivalent in power, but are there any features that one has that the other does't, other than portability?

OK! The reason I suggest more combines Mac OS X, and Rosetta. Mac OS X in general, with it's gorgeous interface, and pure stability, uses a lot of RAM (to begin with). As well, being that Apple just recently switched do the Intel processor line, a lot of applications run under Rosetta. Rosetta is an emulation utility. It emulates Intel x86 code for PPC based applications. Anything that runs under Rosetta will run generally with lag, and slow. And, Rosetta is a RAM hog. So, as of right now, whilst the switch is still in action, it'd be very wise to purchase as much RAM as you can afford. I went with 1.5GB; plenty for my needs.
If you're not going to be doing anything "hardcore" at all, then I suppose 1GB should be fine. But, with Intel based Macs, 1GB is bear minimum.

Issue: Problem transferring music files from MacBook to iMac
Description: Trying to transfer music files from MacBook to iMac. Some files will transfer, others will not. Error message (in the files that won't transfer) says no permission to write, however, when I check ownership and permissions on both MacBook and iMac, everything (owner, group, others) is set to read and write. Preferences for iTunes on both iMac and Macbook identical. This only "no permission to write" applies only to some files, not all. Both affected and unaffected files were imported from my own cd's, not purchased from iTunes.
Attempted solutions: Tried using "import" and "add to library" command from drop down menu using individual files. Tried clicking and dragging individual files from folders into iTunes itself. Tried placing folders into itunes Music folder. Tried placing iTunes Library into iTunes Music folder.
Any other suggestions? Please help

You don't.
Need a internal optical drive and the Hardware Test on disks is old and outdated anyway.
Your machine has lasted a long time, congratulations, they usually only last about 4-5 years.
They get clogged up with dust and overheat, kills the video card, there is nothing you can do as it's hardware damage over time.

IMac and Macbook Pro no longer connecting to the Wifi?

Hi there,
I've been in London this weekend, only to return home to find issues connecting to my wifi. Weirdly, it's only the iMac and Macbook Pro having trouble, everything else is connecting fine e.g iPad, Phone, Android Tablet etc.
I'm getting disconnected around every 20 seconds and cannot figure it out! It's so frustrating as I'm wondering if there's been an update released for OS X that it has downloaded recently? Especially seeing that when I run windows from bootcamp on my iMac, it doesn't disconnect. And I also don't believe it's an issue with the hub.
Has anyone got any suggestions? I've tried removing the network and re-adding, help for about an hour but still not much use.

Using Ethernet, I am attempting to stream the movies on my computer to my girlfriends computer through iTunes home sharing. I want to watch the movies that are on one computer on another.

How do I get my iTunes (both purchased and cd's) into the cloud as I cannot use match my iMac and MacBook are too old to use the right OS and maxed out RAM memory upgrades, but have iPhone 4S and now 64gb iPad and libraries on desktops plus iPod!!

A good route would be to attach a USB drive to the macbook. You can use the drive to assemble a copy of all of your music from your various devices. iTunes on the macbook can be used to create a new library, located on the USB drive, into which you can import all of your music.
Two major benefits:
1. From here you can run iTunes Match across your entire music collection; and
2. You will have created a full local backup of all of your music on the USB drive.
Once complete you will be able to access the music from any iDevice capable of running iTunes Match, Do remember as you add music it is important to maintain a local backup in order to keep your music safe.

I don't quite know how to get the information into iCloud. I use to use Google Drive with my pc but the account was compromised and I removed all data from it. I have six products in my home. I can only authorize five using my Apple ID. All my products are Apple - 1 IMAC, 2 MacBook Pros, 2 Iphones and 1 IPAD. This doesn't seem right - We are so Mac'd out in our home and yet we are now being limited to the number of products we can have using the same Apple ID. Any advice as to how to find a workable soliution to this?

My iMac and MacBook Calendar will no longer sync with iCloud. I don't understand why?

All of the sudden about 10 days ago, I noticed that when I asked to refresh my calendar, that it just hangs on both my iMac and my MacBook. And neither are syncing with iCloud calendar. I'm not certain if my iphone calendar is synching or not because nothing is getting transferred to my iMac or MacBook.
The system status says all is OK. My iCloud is still turned on for both computers. So I'm not sure what to do next.

Yes. iCloud on the web is correct although the latest stuff I added to my MacBook is not showing up because it won't sync.
In System Preferences iCloud is selected and they are turned on on both machines as always.
There are no other calendars linked to iCal. I just have a Home, Work, and Birthday and US Holidays all linked in.
I did try something on my MacBook that seemed to work. I went into System Preferences and turned off Calendars and Reminders in the iCloud setting. That prompted a message that all of the iCloud iCal data would be removed from the computer. I made sure the web version was accurate before I did this. Then I shut down my computer and restarted. When I restarted I went back into System Preferences and turned on Calendars and Reminders and now it seems to be working.
I'm about to try the same thing on my iMac.
If this works both times, my question then would be what would cause both my iMac and MacBook to disconnect as it seems from iCloud when I hadn't changed anything at all.

Imac and Macbook pro can no longer see one another

I'm not sure why, but all since I upgraded to Yosemite, I can no longer see my iMac on my Macbook Pro and vice versa. I could always see the computer that I needed to connect to in finder, or I could connect with my iCloud password. As of today, I can no longer access my iMac from my Macbook Pro and that's a problem. If someone could provide directions (dumbed down version) explaining how to connect the computers from scratch, I would greatly appreciate it. I used to manage 3 websites using both my imac and macbook, using dropbox, however I can no longer access them from my mac book.

I have been managing 3 websites using iWeb for the last several years, using both my iMac and Macbook. However for the last two weeks, I can no longer access these sites from my macbook. It appears "empty". When I first started seeing this, I took it to the Genius Bar in another city and he moved some library contents to my desktop - still didin't help.
I know iWeb is a thing of the past, but I can't stop right now and learn something new for about the next 4 weeks (in a sports team in the middle of a season)
. After that, I will have time to learn a new product.
Also, what is a suggestion for replacing iWeb? Sandvox? Rapid Weaver?

What do you mean when you say you "can no longer access these sites?" Does that mean you can't connect to those sites in your web browser, or that they aren't showing up in iWeb?
If the latter, note that your iWeb data is all entirely stored in a hidden file. In the Finder, choose Go -> Go To Folder and paste the following path into the window that opens:
~/Library/Application Support/iWeb
In that folder, you will find a single file, called Domain. That's got all the data for all your iWeb sites. If that file is missing, or if it has become corrupt, you will need to restore it from an earlier backup.
As for replacing iWeb, either Sandvox or RapidWeaver should work. Which works best will depend on your own tastes. Note that neither is capable of fully importing iWeb sites, as those sites will have a lot of content that is copyrighted by Apple. i installed snow leopard and now works fine.
apple is capable to make it run paying new license of smb code, but isnted of this, apple has created new protocol smbx and now, all others need to adapt your code to apple..
