IMac wakes from sleep every night at 8:00 PM but no wake time set.

My iMac (new fall, 2007) running 10.5.2 wakes every night at 8:00 PM Eastern day savings time. Before day light saving time started it woke at 7:00 PM. In the energy control panel "schedule section" the "start up or wake option" in NOT checked.
The exact same problem occurs in a mini Mac purchased last fall which is also running 10.5.
I applied the new firmware update to the iMac last week hoping it would correct this problem but it did not.
Does anyone have any idea how to stop these computers from waking at 8:00 PM every night.

Setting the wake time to 8:00 PM did stop the computer from waking up every night at 0:00 GMT.

I view this as a work-around and not a fix. The Apple technical support representative, that I talked to, knew nothing about this problem.

I have seen that in main admin account the eye tv helper task is lauch during logging.
I remove it, and the mini does not wake up this nignt, but ...
When i launch Eye TV, it installed again eye tv helper task...

I have seen a few other people on these forums listing the same issue. Time will vary as it depends on Time Zone. I'm guessing it is waking at 12am GMT.

I haven't seen a solution yet, but will post it here if I come across one. Best to report to Apple via your Applecare support.
Sorry I couldn't be much more help.

  • How can I wake my iMac up from sleep mode? Can I do it via iPad?

How can I wake my iMac up from sleep mode? Can I do it via iPad?
I've set the "Wake on Demand" in the system preference, but don't know the way to wake it up.

It wakes up automatically in response to requests for certain sharing services.
    About Wake on Demand
Search for an OS X application called "WakeOnLAN." Search the iTunes App Store for iOS apps with "wake on LAN" in the description.

  • Imac awakens from sleep for no reason?!

So sometimes in the middle of the night my imac comes on from sleep.  Usually it's very rare but it happened like 3-4 times last night.  I know the next door nieghbor has an airport extreme, I pick it up on my wifi.  Do you think someone's trying to hack in or is it coincidence? No I don't think I have a ghost either ; )

This may be something like a driver, application or external device which is not fully Leopard compatible, or even a component of MacOS if you upgraded to Leopard rather than did a clean install. To start the process of troubleshooting, first download and install the full 10.5.1 update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1051update.html , even if you have already updated to 10.5.1 using software update. The full updater has been reported to resolve a number of minor issues.
Next, assuming that doesn't resolve it, start up your mini, put it to sleep and then disconnect everything. If it continues to wake unpredictably, the issue is with the mini itself, and you may be best to backup all your data and do an erase and install to resolve any residual issues caused in the upgrade. If, on the other hand, the system remains sleeping, it points to an external device being the culprit, in which case plug each one in, one at a time until you can create the unpredictable waking again. Whichever component was last plugged in, is the primary suspect!

  • When my IMac awakes from sleep mode, the password login screen freezes and no cursor appears.

Hello!  When my IMac awakens from sleep mode, my log in screen is frozen (I can't type anything) and there is no cursor.
I can turn the computer off and on again and then I have an active log in screen, but if I walk away from the computer and it goes into sleep mode and i have the same problem trying to bring it back from sleep mode.
    Thoughts?

    Hey Kristogirl,
I understand that when waking from sleep mode, your iMac freezes. Try executing these two troubleshooting steps:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
OS X Mountain Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
If neither of those help the issue, I would follow the steps in the next article, specifically the "If the issue occurs in various applications, or in Mac OS X" section:
Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    Best,

  • Wakes from sleep at night

Almost every night my iMac wakes itself up and then according to my energy saver preferences, goes back to sleep in 10 minutes.  I checked the console logs and it doesn't even show that it wakes up.  I do not have the wake for network access checked, either.  Is something automatically updating?  There is nothing there in the morning.

maintenance scripts usually run in the early morning hours, but that wouldn't cause your mac to wake up.

  • Time Machine turns itself on after my Mac Pro wakes from sleep (every time)

    Hi,
I have a 2009 Mac Pro and it currently has Lion on it (10.7.4), but the problem I am about to explain started when the machine was running Snow Leopard, so it doesn't appear to be an OS-specific issue.
I do not currently use Time Machine, I use Carbon Copy Cloner and some online backup solutions to handle backups. I did use Time Machine for a short time on this machine just after it was introduced, but I didn't end up using it for long and the external drive I used for the backups is no longer in service.
    The problem is this:
I have Time Machine off and I have all of my drives (I have 4 drives in my Mac and an external drive) set not to be backed up for good measure. Time Machine will stay off like it should except in one instance. If I put my machine to sleep, when my Mac wakes, Time Machine is instantly turned on and I get a warning telling me no backup drive has been selected and that I should pick one. I go into the Time Machine preferences and turn it off. It will remain off (I've checked the preferences to be sure) until the next time the machine is put to sleep. Time Machine will remain off, even through reboots. It is only waking from sleep that causes this.
I've tried zapping the PRAM, getting rid of the Time Machine preferences and even logging into a new, unused user account and testing it from there and the problem continues. This is really starting to annoy me. I wouldn't mind having TM on, but having to click through the warning every time my Mac wakes from sleep is frustrating.
I don't want to have to buy a new external hard drive and let TM backup to the drive because, as I said, I've got my backup solutions handled already and I'm not willing to put yet more money to use a feature I don't need right now.
I've done searches online and asked around and no one has been able to help me yet. So I thought I'd try here.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Do you see a wake reason in Applications>Utilities>Console?

  • Why trackpad wakes iMac up from sleep after activating wi-fi despite I've unchecked this option at  bluetooth System Preferences?

In the bluetooth advanced options at system preferences I've unchecked the item "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer".
My iMac is running Lion and sleep mode works fine, i.e. trackpad doesn't recall it from sleep, the Mac's back panel is cold and it takes a little delay to finally wake up.
Nevertheless, I've noticed that trackpad is able to wake my iMac up and the back panel is still warm when wi-fi is active. It seems to me that only the display sleeps.
Is there anything I forgot to do to have iMac full sleep mode even with wi-fi active? Note: wi-fi is only active, I'm connected to nothing.

  • Ethernet Print Server Keeps iMac G5 from sleeping

    Hello All,
I have a small home network setup with a router to share my DSL Internet connection.
My iMac G5 has never had any sleep problems before. But, with the recent addition of a US Robotics Ethernet Print-Server, the iMac G5 no longer sleeps automatically.
It will sleep fine if I use the power button to sleep it. But, it will not sleep if I let the "Energy Saver" activate it.
The iMac G5 does turn off the display when it is supposed to (in the energy settings). So, it will sleep the display. Just not the computer when the Print Server is attached to the network.
If I unplug the print server from the Ethernet, then the iMac G5 sleeps just fine when the energy saver kicks in.
Further, if the time to sleep has elapsed, and the computer is still awake, then I can unplug the print server from the Ethernet and the iMac G5 will go to sleep a couple of seconds later.
Interestingly, the Mac Mini I have doesn't stay awake. It sleeps just like it is supposed to. It doesn't care if the print-server is attached or not.
The Mac Mini and the iMac G5 are both configured to communicate with the Print Server. It uses AppleTalk to share my printer (a Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5mp).
The iMac G5 is running OS X "Tiger" 10.4.3 and is updated to the current level (all updates). The Mac Mini is running OS X "Panther" 10.3.9 with all the available updates installed.
The system specs are all in my footer below my message.
    Any ideas?
It is obviously the print-server keeping my system awake. If I un-plug it from the network then everything behaves perfectly normal.
Is there a setting somewhere to keep the iMac G5 system from listening to other devices on the network somewhere?
There is no bi-directional setting in the Print-Server. So, that shouldn't be the issue (plus the Mac Mini doesn't care).
The Print Server is a U.S. Robotics USR7500 Ethernet Print Server.
The website for my Print Server is at:
    http://www.usr.com/products/networking/networking-product.asp?sku=USR7500
Hopefully there is a setting somewhere that I can adjust in OS X Tiger to fix this.
The Wake on LAN setting is not turned on. So that's not it.
I also just checked, and the scheduled sleep will work. So, it is just the "inactivity" setting that is giving me trouble.
Like I said though, if I unplug the Ethernet Print-Server, then everything works exactly as it should.
I'll look forward to any ideas you might be able to offer.

    Update:
    Hello All,
I found out what was causing the machine to not sleep.
My built-in Firewall was configured to block UDP communications.
I discovered, quite by chance, that the Print Server was sending a UDP signal to my Mac every 30 seconds or so. I have no idea why, especially since the Print Server should be a receiver not a sender.
As an experiment, I disabled UDP blocking in the FireWall, and my machine went to sleep just like it should.
Any ideas as to why the Print Server would be sending a UDP signal?
Here's an excerpt from my firewall log:

and it keeps going like that for 12 hours or so.
The print server is setup to allow for TCP/IP, NetBEUI, and AppleTalk communication.
I'd like to hear any ideas as to how to get rid of this UDP so I can re-enable the blocking feature in the Firewall.
I do need to keep features enabled that are required to allow my wife's portable PC with Windows XP to print to the server as well.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Random iMac "back from sleep" beep

    Hi...
When my iMac is idle and not asleep, it will randomly give the faint "beep" like it's coming back awake from sleep mode. It will do this every couple minutes, or even a couple times a minute. Any ideas?

I've never had a Mac make a beep sound when it wakes from sleep. I am not familiar with which you refer.

  • Should I put my iPad to sleep every night?

I have an iPod Touch and an iPhone for a long time, but since both of them never showed the battery percentage on the up right, I never actually worried about shutting them down when I go to bad.
Now I have an iPad that really shows me a decrease in battery life from the moment I leave it there (wide awake) to sleep to the moment I wake up to start using once again. So I was wondering:
-- Should I just turned the devices off before going to sleep each night?
    -- What do experts recommend?
-- What do yiu guys do it about it?
Sorry for my bad english (for I'm brazilian) and thanks a lot in advance,

A Mac OS X expert can. I am not one of those.
If you don't get the response you want here but you do want to decipher the info, research help is here:

However, if your interest is in resolving your kernel panic rather than deciphering it, these can help:

  • How can I stop my Apple TV waking from sleep every morning?

My router is off every night and when it comes on in the morning, so does the Apple TV. Can't find a setting to stop it doing this!

Network activity is waking the Apple TV, you could always set the sleep to never (uses very little power) or unplug the device.

  • Mouse locks when iMac awakes from Sleep or FrontRow

Have just gone back to Mac after four years of gloom on the PC. Bit nervous about being an early adopter but couldn't resist.
So, brand new two-day-old iMac, and it appears to have a problem: When the iMac goes to sleep, or if it is in Frontrow mode, and it awakes or is switched back to the Finder respectively the mouse is completely dead. At first I thought that the system was hanging (having read reports of similar problems on here) but I have discovered that simply by unplugging the mouse and replugging it in, the mouse comes back to life.
Anyone have any ideas? Everything else appears to work fine - so far.

    Bill, good question,
there should be some default shortcuts:
    Toggle keyboard access on/off --------------------
    control F1
    focus to the menubar --------------------
    control F2
focus to the active window --------------------
    control F4
focus to the window toolbar --------------------
    control F5
Thanks! I didn't know about holding "control" with F2.
Now I know what to do if the mouse locks again:
control F2, then press arrow down a few times to get to "Restart", then press return.
