IMac waking up everyday @ 6 p.m. CST even when shutdown
Hello all
iMac (Intel) Mac OS X 10.5.2
Question: My iMac has been mysteriously waking up everyday at 6 p.m. CST even when it is completely shutoff. I checked the Energy Saver for schedules but nothing is enabled.
What could explain this?

First reset the iMac's SMC (System Management Controller) exactly following the instructions in the following link.

Then in the "Energy Saver Preference / Options" be sure that the box "Restart automatically after a power failure" is unchecked, just in case something else is interrupting the iMac's power at that time.
Lastly are you using elgato iTV?

My Intel iMac always has around 2 GB available RAM, even when i run apps. Why is that?
I own a Intel iMac from aug. 2007. It has 2 gigabytes of ram and about a year ago i upgraded it with 2 gigabytes more.
The machine runs as it should and had no problems after the installation. It discovered the ram instantly and now says 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM in the "about this Mac" window.
My problem is that when i run applications which require something (like rendering in Final Cut or playing Diablo III) the activity monitor app still says that the iMac has almost 2 gigabytes of ram available.
It would only be natural to presume that it is because it does not need the additional ram, but that is not the case. Final Cut rendering is slow and Diablo III runs mostly at about 18 FPS on the lowest settings.
Why is this and is it possible to get the iMac to use that additional RAM?This is true. It gradualy changes, but it never goes below 1 gigabyte.
This is with Diablo and Chrome running simultaneously. They are both give about 500 megabites each, wit Diablo on the lowest resolution and graphics. Still Diablo runs at about 12-18 FPS. This is my problem.
Edit: Reflecting on this I realized that OSX of cause only allows every app a limited amount of memory. This changes my question to: Is it possible to raise the apps maximum memory cap?

After waking from sleep, my iMac (Lion) is unresponsive. The mouse moves, but when I click things it won't open them.
This has happened EVERY time the iMac goes to sleep for the last few days.. the only way I have found to resolve the issue is to manually restart the computer each time via the button on the back of the iMac.
Any and all help is appreciated!
ThanksFWIW, I never sleep my machines or their HDs, just their displays and never have an issue waking up the displays, usually run 24/7. Give that a shot.

Late 2009 iMac running Yosemite freezing and won't wake up when Elgato Eye TV starts to record?
As above really, not much more to add.
My husbands late 2009 iMac recently upgraded to Yosemite (latest update installed yesterday) freezes while in sleep mode and has to be 'force shutdown' by holding power button down and then restarted to get it going again. Recording is stopped.
The Elgato Eye TV is a dual tuner with latest update.
Sometimes it wakes the computer up and begins recording, sometimes not.
No key taps or mouse jiggles get it to wake nor a quick press of the power button, I can hear the computer running and have to hold the power button down until all is quiet then fire it back up.
Other times it just doesn't wake the computer at all and start recording. I am all out of things to try, I think he had this problem before but not as badly when the iMac was running Snow Leopard.Hi Boaz,
I´m facing exactly the same with my Mini which is remotely controlled by a MacBook via Screensharing. Everything works fine unless the Mini goes to sleep. After that I´m not able to wake it up by the MacBook and Wake on LAN (Wol). Even the share is not listed in Finder´s sidebar anymore. It simply doesn´t show up in the share sections anymore. When I log on to my router I can see, that MacMini is not active and I can send WoL package from the router. That brings the Mini back alive, although it still doesn´t show up in the Finder sidebar. When I connect to the Mini via Finder "Connect to share" and type in: vnc://ip-MacMini I can use screensharing again.......
Also I faced the problem with indexed network phantoms....means my Mini was listed in network shares with several different indices e.g. MacMini(2) and (4) and so on..... I wasn´t able to connect and curiously these phantoms show up even when my Mini was shut off! Looks like bonjour or something else is not working properly....
I fixed phantoms by reseting my router (AVM firtzbox), which worked out perfect since yesterday and no indexed phantom is showing up anymore.....
Haven´t fixed the screensharing or waking up thing yet....
I was also taking part in beta testing program and reported these problems to Apple. In Mavericks everything worked really perfect!

I have tried to download Mavericks on my 2010 iMac(10.6.8), but nothing happens, not even the install app downloads, also I tried to download chrome, I moved it to the applications folder and when I opened the folder it wasn't there. I have a 1tb hard drive that is mostly empty. By the way I just got this imac used from a reseller.
Mavericks downloads into the Applications folder, where you can install it. Some Mac App Store Troubleshooting information and how to resume a download that was interrupted; some of the information here might get you an answer. Failing that, try contacting Apple Support.

Hi I am trying to connect my mba mid 2011 with an imac 27" 2011 with target display mode tdm. When I am using a thunderbolt cable nothing will work. When I use a minidisplay cable, both screens turn blue but eventually nothing happens. What is the problem

I tried to launch iCloud on iMac. I Changed my e-mail address recently, and iMac doesn't seem to know it. Even worse, it doesn't know any password I've used with Apple ID. Can anyone help me?
No, i don't. if i did i would have tried it. do you have to sign up an appled ID for iCloud? If the answer is yes then they should mention that in the set-up instructions.

I'm having trouble instaling a printer driver for my Canon MG5220. I downloaded the latest printer driver from the Canon website (10.67.1.0) and installed it on my Intel iMac. It said the installation was sucessful, but when I try to add a printer, no go. The printer does'nt show up. I'm fairly new to the Mac, after switching from windows. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I just got a new iMac and want to use it for iTunes. when i connect my iPhone how do i transfer everything in my iPhone to this new computer?

I installed windows 7 on my iMac 21.5 (late 2009) and when I boot windows 7, the lag drivers are missing and bootcamp is not installed. The windows package would not download through bootcamp, even when left alone for 2 hours. Don't have the lion disk... Drivers seem impossible to get. Please help!

I just got an iMac and used migration tool (PC to Mac). When I try to then open iTunes i get the message
<The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version.... download iTunes now?>
...but i have it already downloaded, when I press download now, it tells me I already have it, but it still won't let me open iTunes???Unless you've tried to install an older version of iTunes that message likely indicates a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash...

Sometimes the Software Update version doesn't work properly. If you can't install Mac OS X 10.6.8 from Software Update, install it through the Combo installer > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1399
The Combo installer allows you to update multiple Macs with a single download. Also, it's safer because it gives less problems than a Software Update version
