IMac waking up needlessly

I put the machine to sleep then a little while later I get this in the console:
'Wake reason GIGE - bonjour - conflict resolution'
...then it doesn't go back to sleep again.
What does that mean??
Thanks!
Adam

Hi William:
Take a look at the log files.  Wake events (and the thing that caused the wake) are there.

My iMac has been waking up allot during the night for the past few months... Someone when I come to it I find it not sleeping at all. I was told a few weeks ago when I catch it go to the system log.. I did that today and am now really worried its some sort of Mac Virus or something.. I could be wrong its just the name freaks me out.

  • IMac waking up at night

For the past week or so my iMac has been waking up from sleep in the middle of the night, and I don't know why. Other people are reporting the same issue with their new 8-core Mac Pros running Leopard, but I'm running Tiger on a G4. Could it be last week's release of OS updates (e.g. QuickTime and/or iTunes) that is the culprit? My computer is networked with a G4 PowerMac running Leopard, but that machine doesn't seem to have this problem. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Try resetting the SMC:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
Note: Sweet Patootie Pie, this doesn't apply to you as the iMac (Flat Panel) doesn't have an SMC, although the next step may be a PMU reset.

  • IMac waking up everyday @ 6 p.m. CST even when shutdown

    Hello all
iMac (Intel) Mac OS X 10.5.2
Question: My iMac has been mysteriously waking up everyday at 6 p.m. CST even when it is completely shutoff. I checked the Energy Saver for schedules but nothing is enabled.
    What could explain this?

    Hi Pierreiphone
First reset the iMac's SMC (System Management Controller) exactly following the instructions in the following link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446-en
Then in the "Energy Saver Preference / Options" be sure that the box "Restart automatically after a power failure" is unchecked, just in case something else is interrupting the iMac's power at that time.
Lastly are you using elgato iTV?

  • Late 09 iMac waking HDDs Help

    Hi,
Ever since updating my late 09 iMac to ML it seems to be waking all HDDs attached including the internal drive every two or so hours while asleep. I am unsure what it is doing when it turns them on but it can wake me up and I know it isn't very good for all drives to keep doing that. It seems like its acting as if its in Power Nap which is impossible.
What could be cauisng my iMacs phantom HDD behivour and how can I stop it doing it?
    Thanks

Is the computer screen staying off when it wakes?
If so what your experiencing is "wake for network access" ironically there are threads on here where myself included are not happy that since upgrading to ML its not working properly for us.
Go to system preferences/energy saver and untick the wake for network access tab and this should stop this happening for you.

  • Imac waking itself up from sleep mode

i am very concerned about my imac it keeps waking itself up from sleep mode. i checked the prefrences and its not scheduled to wake itself up, do i have a virus?

    OK jon,
We stil don't know exactly which iMac CRT you have but this is based on the 350 - 400 Slot loader and is from the service manual:
"Resetting the PMU on the Logic Board
Resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit) on the logic board
can resolve many system problems. Whenever you have a unit that
fails to power up, you should follow this procedure before
    replacing any modules.
    1. Disconnect the power cord and check the battery in the battery
holder (BT1). The battery should read 3.3 to 3.7 volts.
If the battery is bad, replace the battery, wait ten seconds,
and then reset the PMU (refer to the next step). If the battery
is good, go to the next step.
    2. Press the PMU reset switch (S1) once on the logic board and
then proceed to step 3. Do NOT press the PMU reset switch a
second time because it could crash the PMU chip.
    3. WAIT ten seconds before connecting the power cord and powering

  • IMac Waking Itself Up From Sleep

My Intel iMac has taken to waking itself up when I put it to sleep. It's happened once or twice before in the past, but over the past few days it seems to have become a regular thing.
I put it to sleep by pressing the power button on the back, and the around 30 minutes later it will wake itself up despite me being nowhere near the keyboard or mouse.
Any ideas what could be causing this and how I could fix it?
I don't know whether it's related or not, but my Aluminium Bluetooth Keyboard has recently been playing up too and keeps giving me a Connection Lost message.

  • IMac waking from sleep several times at night

For some reason my iMac won't stay asleep. This is starting to bother me because my iMac is beside my bed and it wakes me up when I hear the hard drive spin back up. I counted at least 4 times last night that I heard it wake itself up (and me). I usually sleep my iMac at 10:00 pm manually. Here is log entries from console the first of 4 times it happened last night:

  • TV remote waking up my Intel iMac?

This is really odd: in the last week or so, I've noticed my iMac waking up from sleep when I turn off my TV with its remote or when my roomie in the next room does likewise.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any fix for it?

You posted in the wrong forum. Since you have an Intel, you will need to repost in the Intel-based iMac Forums.
This area is for G5 iMacs which are an entirely different model than an Intel iMac.

  • IMac wakes from sleep by itself after security update 2010-001

Since installing last weeks security update 2010-001, my iMac has suddenly started waking up when it should be asleep. Now I've had Auto Sleep problems with my iMac before, but this problem of finding my iMac running when I left it asleep started immediately after the update. Now, one thing additional I've notice since the update is that I often see the message on the screen "Keyboard Connected" when it always was or should have been and I wonder if this is related to my iMac waking up. Anyone else seen this problem since the update or have any ideas?

Thanks to you both for suggestions, but I still have the same problem after trying them and as I said in my title this only started after the 2010-001 security update. As a test I put my iMac to sleep at 13:35 and it woke up by itself at 13:46. Here is the console log below, does it help at all in finding the root cause?

  • Networking issues following upgrade to 10.5.8 when iMac wakes from sleep

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to 10.5.8 and I'm now experiencing issues with network connectivity following the iMac waking from sleep. I have to stop Airport and then start it again to resolve the issue.
Can you provide any resolutions to this or advice?
    Many Thanks,
    Sam

Reinstall the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update because the Combo seems to help a lot of people when a Delta upgrade doesn't take right.

  • Imac wakes itself

How do I stop my imac waking itself everynight at midnight?

This is discussed in some other places here, but I start to post the solution here:
My iMac also starts to wake up every night at 1 a.m. - even if I shut it down, it starts up at exactly this time. The different times (midnight, 4 a.m., etc.) seem to have something to do with time zones or daylight savings time settings. I searched here for an answer, and there was one that I tried (and only this one, so I can tell that this is really the solution for this annoying problem).
All I did was to activate the automatic startup in the "Energy saver" prefs, then *changed the time* (wich was per default at 0:00) to something else (I choosed 9 a.m., but everything else should work). Then I disabled the automatic startup again. And now my Mac sleeps well.
Nothing like "delete prefs" or "repair permissons", that was the only thing I did.
I hope this helps all other people here.
Thanks to the one who gave this hint!
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany - Tom

  • IMac white, Leopard, BT mouse anomaly

My configuration is as stated in the title (the mouse is a Logitech V470). My iMac would wake from sleep in the middle of the night and I traced it to either my mouse or my wireless keyboard (most likely the mouse) causing this. So, I disabled waking my iMac from BT devices in Settings. The problem I have now is that it's hard to wake the iMac; sometimes I have to hold the power button to force shutdown and turn it on all over again just to get it working.
And when it does wake from toggling the power button, it takes a long time to regain mouse control as if it's re-pairing; I get the window that says pairing with the mouse was interrupted when the desktop appears although the mouse is working fine.
Any ideas on how I can fix these annoyances?
    TIA

I shut down all the BT features in the Energy Saver settings (Allow BT to wake computer, Use connection wizard when no BT detected, etc.) and I don't notice my iMac waking in the middle of the night. It just takes a minute to regain keyboard and mouse (both are BT devices) sync but I can live with that. 'Would be nice if it could re-sync faster on wakeup/turn-on...

  • Why does my computer tell me the "Disk was not properly ejected" when waking from sleep mode?

I am a real "Newbie" to Mac OS. I have a new iMac 21.5" running OS X Lion. When I awake the computer from sleep mode with the spacebar on the keyboard, I get the message "The disk was not ejected proper, etc.". Iss there something I am doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Mike G.

I am one of those who had experienced this kind of problem.  My former Time Machine disk used to automatically eject itself when my iMac sleeps, hence upon waking up my iMac. i always get the error message that the disk was not properly ejected.
From what I was able to gather from my experience, until the time that I found a workable solution, I think I can say that the problem is most probably caused by the incompatibility of certain external drives with how the iMac operates when on sleep and upon waking up.  Some external drives are just not able to cope with how the iMac tries to remount a connected disk after it wakes up from sleep.  There are just some external drives that cannot continue to be mounted after the iMac wakes from sleep.  There are just some external drives that are not responsive enough. In other words, the existence of the problem lies with the type of external drive you are using.
My former Time Machine disk, the problematic one, was an Imation M300 Apollo 1 TB external disk.  It unmounts everytime my iMac went to sleep, but does not remount after waking up the iMac.  The disk will continue to be unmounted until I physically remove its USB connector and replug it in the iMac.
I replaced my former Time Machine disk with my current one, a Transcend Storejet 1 TB.  And the problem went away.  The Transcend disk continue to be mounted after the iMac is woken up even from the longest of sleep.  I have even the energy saving option "put the hard disk to sleep..." checked.  The Transcend disk comes with a Y cable, i.e. it has two USB connectors, but I only connect the one for both data and power--and it still remains mounted even after waking the iMac from sleep.
The sad realization, however, is that since there are only some external drives that are not able to work with the iMac, no matter how many those some may seem to be, it will be highly unlikely for Apple to itself fix this kind of a problem.
I, therefore, make the following recommendations:
    1.  Check first if your problematic disk has a firmware upgrade available.  In some cases, the firmware upgrade may be enough to make the disk more responsive to the iMac waking up.
    2.  If there is no firmware upgrade available, check if your power/data USB cable is properly working.
    3.  If your power/data USB cable is in order, and the problem still persists, I think it is inevitable that you have to replace the problematic disk with a newer one that could respond well with the iMac's wake/sleep operation.  With what disk will you replace your problematic one?  I can only recommend from my personal experience the Transcend disk I mentioned earlier.  You may also search this forum on other brands of disks that may also work.
    Regards.

  • Apple TV 3 home sharing connection issue.

Every time I turn my Apple TV on it is unable to connect to the iTunes library on my computer. My computer is on the same wireless network with iTunes open. The only way I can get it to reconnect is to turn off home sharing on the Apple TV and then turn it back on again. It is then able to reconnect.
I am running the latest software version on the ATV.

For me, it looks more and more a problem with my iMac waking up from sleep and not so much a problem with the Apple TV.
With Snow Leopard wireless wake on lan was working. With Mountain Lion, this is not working anymore. I tried several things (restart Airport Extreme, SMC en PRAM reset, configuring WiFi connection again, ...) but I can't get wireless wake on lan to work. And because my iMac won't wake up from sleep, the Apple TV can't reach the iTunes library.
I have the same problem when I start the Remote app on my iPhone: because the iMac is sleeping, it can't reach the iTunes library. When I go upstairs and wake my iMac, Remote can access the library.
