IMac was freezing and now wont start?

My iMac was running a little slow the past 2 days, and whenever i tried to type something in safari it would bring up the loading wheel and take forever just to type something. I installed google chrome and it kept happening so it's not safari. Next my mac started freezing and i would have to just turn it off and restart it. Turning it back on it would load sometimes but take awhile, sometimes it wouldnt load so i'd turn it off and try again until it worked.
now when i turn it on the gray/white screen comes up with the apple, but no loading thing comes up under that. after a few minutes the apple gets replaced with a circle with a line through it. After about 5 minutes of not starting, a blinking folder with a question mark starts flashing and it does this until i turn off the computer.
soooo, what is wrong? how do i fix this? is there another way to start the computer?

i put in my snow leopard install disk and then restarted using my internal hard drive and it worked fine for a few hours. Then it crashed again and now it's doing it again and cant find my internal hard drive. I have most my stuff stored on an external hard drive but does this mean i have to buy a new computer? or a new internal hard drive? how much would that be and for them to install it? stupid macs, i thought they were supposed to work better than PC's. Or is your hypothesis wrong since it did start up after you said it was dead.
It does sound like your hard drive is failing and needs to be replaced. Mac hard drives are the same products as they are in PCs and they ALL fail, on average a HD should last 3-5 years however some last months and some last 6-8 years. So there isn't any reason to be angry at Apple. Make sure you are backed up and make an appointment at your local Apple Store or AASP. A replacement hard drive will probably run in the $200-$300 range including labor.

You have run into Activation Lock, a security feature of iOS 7 designed to prevent activation of lost and stolen iPads. there is no way around Activation Lock. You need to know the Apple ID and password used to set up the iPad originally.

2009 iMac was overheating and now won't boot

I would post more info but I do not have it as the computer will not start.
It is an 21" iMac bought in 2010. I think around September just before the update came out.
It was overheating I noticed last week. ( i do not use this computer, my wife and children do or I would have noticed this sooner ).
3 days ago it decided not to boot up and only gives the spinning gears on the white screen.
I reset the pram, unplugged the power cord, all peripherals etc.. still no boot.
I did at one point get it to load up the recover I think it is called where you have the option to reinstall Lion and few other options.
I ran disk check, repaired the drive and tried to reboot. No luck.. same issue.
One thing when I did reset the PRAM I believe it was, the fan came on full speed and dust came flying out of the top of the iMac.
It did this while it was on and running the disk check. Once I rebooted the fan did not come back on.. or it is but on very quiet.
As I want to try to recover any files on the iMac I did not choose to reinstall LION yet.
I am not sure if it would do a new install or overwrite the existing and all files on the Hard Drive.
Any help is appreciated.

I am experiencing exactly the same situation as yours now.
Mine is iMac 27" was bought around 2010 also.
It was overheating almost everyday for a few weeks, and today it just hang and after we turn it off it won't boot anymore and stuck at the apple logo with rotating wheel which does rotate.
Interestingly it will heat up very fast even when we wait for this screen only about 15-20 minutes.
What happened with yours and have you resolved it and how did you resolve it?
Was your hard drive and data okay?

Old iMac was sluggish and now won't go past blue screen.

We have a pretty old iMac, it will be 7 years old next month. I totally expect for it to slow down and have issues being that old, but was hoping I could maybe get a few more years out of it for my in-laws. We gave it to them 2 years ago and now it's going downhill. It has been sluggish for quite awhile and now will not turn on past the blue screen. No spinning wheel, just a blue screen and an arrow.
Is there anything we can do? Could we perhaps completely wipe the computer as there is nothing important saved on there? Would that even help? We are probably at the end of it's life here, but just thought I'd come for suggestions first.

I suspec the machine has had a hardware failure. If you can run Apple's Hardware Test, you will need the original install discs that shipped with the computer to do this. Run the test in Extended Mode at least 2-3 times back to back. The reason to run it multiple times is AHT is not 100% reliable however if it detects an error the error is correct. If you get an error that means a trip to the local Apple Store or AASP for repair, based on the vintage of the machine I woudl recommend an AASP. ZEN Vision V freezes and now wont even turn

I dropped my Zen vision V?(3 feet or so) while it was on . At first it would turn on but freeze and would have to reset it, but no it wont even turn on, the power light just flashesany one know whats wrong and can give me a way to fix itand if i have to send it back anyone know how much it might cost?

Almost 3 month old Iphone 4 extremely hot in corner and now wont start

i am currently living in toulouse france as an exchange student, i come from new zealand, which is where my iphone 4 was brought, almost almost 3 months ago. last month for 1 week my phone would become very hot in the corner by the on/off button, so hot i couldnt touch it. the power also drained very fast. the internet connection had no effect as i had no wifi connection with the house i was living in. it ended up that it would go from 100% to 0% in about 2 hours or less, and then wouldnt turn on unless plugged in, but it would always be too hot to use. its been a month since that happened, but its happened again, lasting for the past week and a half. the other day it became the hotest it has ever been, and the power drained extremely fast whilst plugged in, and now it wont turn on

HP ENVY 15 thermal shutdown and now wont start up

So i was playing some borderlands and all of a sudden, my screen goes black and my computer shutdown. I managed to restart it the first time with no problems. But after about 1 hour, the same thing happens again when i was playing. However this time i am unable to start up my laptop. I keep getting stuck at the "Starting Windows" screen with the windows logo. I've tried leaving it there for a while already and nothing seems to happen at all.
I ran the harddisk test and it passed. I am also able to boot into safe mode.
I really need help ASAP to get my computer back up again.

Sadly there doesn't seem to be an HP Service Center in my country (Sri Lanka). So now I'm really confused as to what my retailer's technicians meant by "we'll send it to the local HP Support Center and have your display panel replaced".
Whatever they did, the display panel has been replaced and I've been using it for less than a week so far with no issues. The touchpad hasn't really been heating up and has in fact been as warm as the rest of the notebook. Perhaps it's because I have now turned on the option of disabling the touchpad whenever an external cursor device is attached (since I primarily always use a mouse).
Needless to say, since we both have no clue as to how the touchpad overheated and damaged the screen (in the exact position and measurement as the touchpad) I feel like it's just a matter of time before it happens again.
Obviously I understand that there's little you can do on your side other than direct me to an HP Support Center. However I hope my worries are justified as I feel that as a consumer I shouldn't have to worry about my brand new product malfunctioning by no fault of my own.

My G700 randomly shut down and now wont start up.

So I was playing DayZ and the performance was awful,usually quite fine and then suddenly it just died,without warning everything went black. I tried starting it up and the screen turned on with the Lenovo logo and then died, and has done ever since.
I really don't know what to do...

I’m sorry to hear that your G700 Laptop is not booting to Windows and is not turning ON now. I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and BIOS reset. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:
Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue
Now access the BIOS menu press NOVO Button located beside the power button when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on “F9” Key and select YES.
Now click on “F10” Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Most likely it was hacked to unlock and upgrading the iOS has relocked it to the official carrier.

Upgraded to Firefox 8.0 crashed and now wont start up.

Upgraded Firefox to 8.0 last night and it crashed as soon as it finished and I went to open it. I had no problem with it before this update. Tried taking my computer back in time didn't work also tried uninstalling and reinstalling accept it wont reinstall now. Go to hit run and get nothing to pop up after that. I loved firefox I hate Internet explorer someone help me fix this so I can use FF again. It seems this is a big problem with 8.0 so there has to be a fix.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

Safari 4.1 started crashing and now wont load at all...

Hi ..please help! Safari started crashing last night ('The Application quit unexpectedly....') and now wont start up again after a variety of attempts; just keep getting that message repeatedly. I have:
- repaired permissions and restarted
- deleted icon from dock then deleted app from folder then re installed Safari 4.1 for Tiger
- moved safari plist from Preferences to desktop
- emptied Safari cache folder
But it just keeps on trying to start up and giving me the crash window.

What this means is - Safari tries to load another piece of software, and can't - either because it's missing or damaged somehow.
you didn't attempt to remove anything manually whilst trying to get Safari re-loaded... ?
If not, I do suggest you use Disk Utility while booted from your install disk to Verify the HD, and then startup normally & repair disk permissions from Disk Utility found in Applications/Utilities/
If that all seems fine, obviously you need to get that file replaced, and hope that it's the only one missing/mangled ( often does seem to be the case )
Either archive/install Tiger, followed by all necessary software updates
or
Hope that it's part of the 10.4.11 combo - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170 assuming that the file doesn't stop Installer from running.

If you have Apple Care or your computer is still under warranty, give them a call and get a case number. Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.

Your phone is in recovery mode If you can't update or restore your iOS device
