  • Iphoto and Itunes not responding after an Apple Software Update

    Hi
Afew days ago I did the Apple Software Update and since then I haven't been able to get onto my Itunes or Iphoto, both of which I use quite often. Itunes just doesn't load at all and Iphoto starts to open the page but then that multicoloured ball appears and it doesn't respond. I am just wondering why this is happening and whether it's happened to anyone else at all? Ideally I'd like to get rid of this new update but don't know how to go about it. I'm a bit of a computer dunce so if you could offer any solution in a straightforward way I would be so grateful. Thanks!

created a new user account and the same problem arose there as well.
Then you need to re-install iPhoto:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applcations Folder to the trash)
    2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’
This process will not affect your Library of photos. However: Always back up before an operation like this.

  • HT1199 After trying to install window 7 my new iMac will not reboot back to apple. Black screen "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". How do I get out of this?

After trying to install Windows 7 in my new iMac It will not boot up back to Apple. I have a black screen with the following "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". My iMac did not come with a boot disk. What can I do?

Try holding down the option/alt key during a restart and see if you can see/select your boot drive there.

  • IMac will not boot after 10.10.2 update

Hello all, I could really use some help. I downloaded 10.10.2 from the app store on my iMac (previously upgraded to Yosemite through app store), and when the system restarted, I would see the white screen with the apple logo and the progress bar about a third of the way across. then the system would ether restart or hang. Here is what I have done so far.
    1. I am unable to boot to recovery mode using 'command R'... nothing happens and it goes back to the apple logo and a progress bar that get to a third of the way and stops.
    2. I am able to press 'option' during boot and get 3 options for loading (system, recovery, and a Yosemite install disk i made on a USB). selecting any of these options returns me to the apple logo and the progress bar that gets stuck at a one third complete.
    3. I am able to select safe and verbose mode. the machine will sometimes get all the way to "system up time in milliseconds" before it reboots.
    4. I am able to boot to single user mode. I have run '/sbin/fsck -fy' until it no longer displays 'modification have been made' and it displays 'volume appears to be ok" (takes 2 runs). from here i have tried both rebooting, and exiting, both result in the white screen with the apple logo and the progress bar getting to a third of the way.
    5. i have tried clearing the NVRAM
    6. I don't have another mac with firewire or thunderbolt to try targeted disk mode
    7. i have had 1 success in getting to the log in screen using verbose mode. during the boot there was a whole screen of the same line repeated many times, it said "BUG in process suhelperdt[167]: over-released legacy external boost assertions (1 total, 1 external, 0 legacy-external). after i logged in it reported that the system has un-expectedly shutdown, and that it would send a report to apple (is this a kernel panic?). i hit  yes and then show the details. then the system hung up, and rebooted. then hung up again during boot with the same "BUG" message above.
I've got good time machine backups, and don't mind doing a complete reload if i can ever get to that option.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a 27 inch imac (10,1 late 09) that was doing the same intermittently during 10.10.2.  In a fit of frustration, I updated yesterday to 10.10.3 and now the computer is doing exactly as you describe.  I cannot get past the white screen at all.  I have booted into recovery, verified and fixed the drive even though it it checked out fine.  and attempted a fresh download on a clean partition.  nada...   i can get into safe mode, and I tried installing the SMC fan control, switching off transparency, and lowering my resolution.  none worked.
I was convinced my hard drive was dying (when I had 10.10.2), and replaced it last week with a SSD.  The SSD ran great for about a week, then had the same problems.  I never had a problem with 10.10.1 or prior.  I have checked my ram, and that does not fix the problem (swapping all four into the front dime slots in sequence).
This computer has run great since 09, and I have never had any issues until now, but it is now a very expensive paperweight. I cannot do the internet recovery that sets up the original OS the machine shipped with (too old for that feature), and it will not let me download a previous version of OS X from the app store (I have mavericks, lion, etc there).
I think my apple love affair is officially over.  Looks like i will be searching for a pre-yosimite computer to download a usb version of mavericks or lion, and I sure as **** am not buying another apple product in the near future! I was very close to pulling the trigger on a new macbook, sure glad I did not waste my money -again-.

  • MBP will not reboot after 10.6.8 update attempt

This post may be a bit telescopic, since I'm posting from my phone, but here goes:
Attempted 10.6.8 update from 10.6.7 on my late 2009 MBP. It went to a blue screen and then sat on that screen with a progress wheel for over an hour. I gave up at that point and simply restarted by holding down the power button and turning back on. It then went to a gray screen with the Apple logo and a progress wheel for a few seconds and then just shut down. I repeated this several times.
Next, I booted into safe made without any problems. I went to the list of startup programs and chose to hide all of the third party apps, then rebooted into safe mode again.
Here is where I started having issues. It went to the apple logo and progress bar for a few seconds then just shut down. I attempted several safe boots and got the same result over and over.
I then put my install CD in the drive and rebooted holding down C. It went to a blank gray screen for about one minute, then spit out the CD and shut down.
I booted into verbose mode and it did a check and got several errors and then just shut down. I attempted this multiple times with the same result.
I then booted into single user mode and ran fsck -yf. It gave me several missing thread record and invalid extent entry errors followed by numbers and one line that said "Incorrect size for file GSUIcon.icns"
Not knowing what to do with this, I typed tail /var/log/system.log to pull up an error report from around the time this may have started. I'm not sure how to get that text to my phone, but it doesn't say a while lot. Basically that a "terminate was called after throwing an instance of 'Security::CssmError'" then "bpf_write(en1) failed: network is down". There is amlittle more, but none of it tells me what really happened. I can send a picture of the error report from my phone if anyone wants to see the whole thing.
At this point, I cannot boot into safe mode or from a CD, only into verbose or single user mode. Thoughts?
    Thanks folks!

    MetaKine issues with 10.6.8
MetaKine hands off,  update to 1.3.1 before attempting aninstall of 10.6.8: the old version causes a kernel panic and will notallow booting after an update.  As it loads a kernel extension, safemode also doesn't work.
Simple solution: boot OSX install DVD, run terminal from utilitiesmenu:
    code, enter and press return
    cd /Volumes/yournormalbootdisk/System/Library/Extensions
    mv HandsOff.kext /
    quit Terminal and reboot
Then load Hands off app, and run the update it finds.

  • MAC WILL NOT REBOOT AFTER DOWNLOADING LATEST SECURITY UPDATE

I downloaded the latest Security Update to my Mac Mini with Snow Leopard.  It downloaded but would not restart.  I finally managed to get it to boot to a bootable external drive and using Disk Utility found the HD was OK but the Preferences way out of wack.  I patched up what I could but when I tried restarting to the original drive it would not work.  I just get the white screen with a circle and stroke through it after a minute with the spinning ball.  I have tried the original start up Disk, pressing C on Startup, but it just spits it out.  I tried to use an older System Disk, one for Leopard but it will not see it.  I tried zapping the PRAM twice to no avail.  Now it won't see the bootable drive either.....
To me it sound like a massive hard drive fail, maybe nothing to do with the Security update.  Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated though.....
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Hello
It seems that the update set your preferences to "use PPPOe" while you where using "TCP/IP".
Go to "System Preferences" and enter the pane whose icon is named "Réseau" in french (maybe "Network" in english.
    Reset your settings to "TCP/IP".

  • Safari will not open after Oct 14 software update

I updated software on Oct 14th & then shut off my computer for the night. Woke up this morning & Safari will not open. The icon on my dock bounces a few time & then that's it.  What should I do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • My HD died on my iMac. I replaced it and lost everything that was on it. I found my source disks from my original purchase for Final Cut Express HD 3.5.  I now have Maverick ISO and it will not let me load my software so I can continue my film work. ???

My HD died on my iMac. I replaced it and lost everything that was on it. I found my source disks from my original purchase for Final Cut Express HD 3.5.  I now have Maverick ISO and it will not let me load my software so I can continue my film work. How do I get it too recover it without paying for it again since I paid for it already and have projects in progress that need to be completed?

    1) Partition your hard drive or add an external drive and install Snow Leopard (with the Optional Rosetta) into it and then you can dual-boot (System Preferences:Startup Disk) into Snow Leopard and run FCE 3.5 there.
    2)  Use one of the following methods to install FCE 3.5 into Mavericks:
    a)  Pacifist:  http://www.charlessoft.com/
    b)  Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method:  http://www.jeremyjohnstone.com/blog/2012-03-11-installing-final-cut-pro-studio-2 -0-on-mac-os-x-10-7-lion.html
Reports on this forum seem to confirm that Final Cut Studio 2 will continue to operate in Mavericks once it is functionally installed, albeit some plug-ins may fail to function.  FCE 3.5 is the same generation as FCS2, and presumably will continue to operate in Mavericks, as well.

We bought 2 iMac's 27inch with i7 Quad-core. Did the update a couple of hours ago. My Mac asked to reboot after update, but i didn't accept and worked with iTunes for a while. Then rebooted manually. After reboot it took about 15 minutes to reboot (light-blue screen with nothing on it, not even a mouse). My Wife also did the update of 10.6.8 and rebooted when asked. Her iMac also took 15 minutes to reboot, bus update was unsuccesful! So did update again and then denied reboot and rebooted manually! (Apple-logo and then choose "restart").
When we did that, iMac was very fast and updateproblem was solved! So deny reboot and reboot manually and problems are over. Same deal with 2 brandnew iMac. I'm guessing this is an issue. To much of a coincidence for me!

The last version on iTunes on my PC was iTunes 7.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • My iMac will not boot into the Apple Hard Ware test. Why is this?

I have a late 2012 27 inch iMac. It will not boot into the Apple Hard Ware test. I do have File Vault turned on. Will this stop it from booting in to the test?

See Using Apple Hardware Test. For some Apple computers that shipped with OS X Lion, if Apple Hardware Test cannot be found on the hard drive, an Internet-based version starts up instead. An Internet-enabled connection via ethernet or Wi-Fi is required to use this feature. Some computers that shipped with Lion require a software update to use this feature. See Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery for more information.
Note: your machine cannot be running Mac OS X (10.6.7).
