IMac won't boot have tried almost everything!

Ok so my iMac (Leopard) is literally 3 months old when I try to start it up, it chimes, then gets to the gray screen with the apple and spinning wheel and there it sits. I tried to reinstall the OS and after reaching a certain point it said it couldn't finish installation and now not only can I not boot to the install disk anymore, I also can't get the disk out! I've tried booting in target disk mode and resetting the pram and nothing seems to work. Please help if you can.

If your machine is only three months old, it is an intel, and also is under warranty, so you should call Apple. You can also post to the [intel forum|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1110] and see if anyone there can help.

  • G-Raid external hard drive won't mount -- have tried almost everything!

My iMac (Intel , OSX 10.4.11) has been happily working with my G-Raid external hard drive for over a year. But now, after the computer cord was disconnected yesterday, it refuses to mount the G-Raid or recognize it anywhere. Can't find it in the Disk Utilities or under "About this mac -- Firewire." Called Apple service and tried everything the agent recommended...PRAM diagnostic reboot, power surge, plugging, unplugging...nothing helped. The problem isn't with the G-Raid, which works fine plugged into my old Powerbook with the same firewire. Grateful for any help, as I really need the G-Raid -- it's got all my projects, music, photos....

Can you plug it in with a USB cable on your iMac? That might get you through your crisis and even resurrect your Firewire connection. Accidentally breaking the connection on my external Firewire drives happens too often as the connector doesn't make a snug fit compared to USB. It's not a problem unless there was something in your buffers at the time the connection was broken. You may need to Repair the drive using Disk Utility when it eventually reconnects or all may be well without more intervention.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour and QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the menu bar, quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Shockwave Plug-in unresponsive or just crashes? Help (I have tried almost everything that I know of)

Hi, I am sure you have heard this a million times but I'm going to ask because I have run out of options and have never asked it here.  I like to play Facebook games on my computer which is a 32 bit windows 7 version operating system. Anyway it crashes on me constantly! It can be up to 5 times within a half hour! Well actually it goes Unresposive on me around 5 times and crashes around twice an hour or half hour time. Then I just quit because i am so fed up!. Sometimes I wait it out. That is if it say's that the plug-in isn't responsive. It will then usually snap out of it but when it doesn't it decides to crash all together. Then it works just to turn around and do it again. Then I have to go back to the main  Face book page and start the game all over again. This has been going on for as long as I can remember. Gradually getting worse as I try to fix it. Not sure what changed to make it happen in the first place because I am the only one using my computer for the most part and I do not change or download anything. Occassionally, my son might use it but he is pretty computer savy. I am not that good with computers, I mean like a computer nerd or something, but I definitely know my way around one for the most part. I have been looking this problem up forever on the Internet and have tried most everything that I have read and it has only made my problems worse. Right now I am trying to uninstall it so I can then reinstall it but the Uninstall program from Adobe won't go any further than the part where they tell you that you have something else running in the background and they can't go forward until it is closed. Problem is, everything is closed that I can tell. They say my Internet Explorer is running but it's not. Not that I can tell any way. Like I said in less there is some secret that I don't know about I would know from my desktop, downloads, or task manager among other ways if it were running. I remember trying this before as well months ago and it said the same thing. I have already tried the double file thing under Chrome// Plugins and disabled my second copy that is once I had one. At first I didn't but I keep a close eye on it because of my son so as soon as there were two copies running I disabled one.It didn't make any difference. So that isn't the problem and never has been.So please no need to bring that one up. I of course tried other things, suggestions from other websites but can't remember them now except that one of the suggestions I followed literally wiped out my entire Chrome Favorites Bookmark List. Argggg!! Years and years of websites were gone just like that. When I set my computer back to before I did that it still didn't give them back to me. O.K. so maybe I don't know what the hell I am doing or maybe they didn't. I don't know. I was trying anything. I was desperate and they sounded like they knew what they are talking about. But it still irritates me even though it was over 6 months ago or more.. I tried then everything to get my bookmarks back in Chrome and I couldn't. Any help out there about fixing the Shockwave crashes and Shockwave Unresponsive warnings?  Please! Thanks, Ellen
P.S. Oh by the way this is what I have.

  • IMac won't boot after trying to migrate files to macbook?

While trying to migrate info from my IMAC to my Macbookpro all work froze on both puters. Macbook starts and runs alright. But my IMAC won't boot at all. Tried startup disc and it won't get past picking a destination because it doesn't list one.  I made a boo boo hear and need help fixing this.

    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

  • IMac will not start after trying almost everything?

    Hi
I just bought my iMac last weekend, and it's been fine for 1 week. I didn't install or tinker with anything for at least a few days previous to these problems...
This morning I heard my iMac fan was extremely noisy. There was a message saying that I should restart.
After this, I have not been able to restart at all. I tried unplugging everything, and once got to the login screen but could get no further (mouse and keyboard not responsive when plugged in.)
I tried booting from installation DVD (nothing - startup sounds, blank screen)
I tried resetting the power setting (unplugging the power, holding down power button, and then starting) - nothing.
The main response I get is blank screen, then after a minuite or so - very loud fan noise.
Every 10th try, I might get to the grey apple screen, but then it hangs...
Any advice? I bought this in Moscow, (Russia) where I'm working right now, and taking it to service might be tricky, or at least extremely complicated.
Hopefully someone can suggest something I havn't already tried?
    Cheers
    Gavin

    Hi
The Mac was spanking new. I recieved a message from Apple Care stating:
"When an Apple product is sold in a country such as Russia wherein the distribution, support and service of Apple products is handled exclusively by an Independent Marketing Company, the warranty and registration information for the product is maintained by the Independent Marketing Company rather than Apple."
They advised me to take it to Finland for service, but that's not too practical at all.
I'll try and return it to the store for service tomorow, although I am sure they will say the power unit went as the result of a power spike (of course I had it on a protected supply, but they will not believe that) so likely it's going to cost me to fix. Bah.
    Thanks for your advice though
    Cheers
    Gavin

  • TS5376 I am hopeless, my computer will not uninstall itunes so i can reinstall! i really truly do need help! can someone please give me some guidance? i have tried almost everything and it is still not working!

I really need help!!! my itunes 11.1.4 download really screwed my computer up! I have tried everything i can search for and i still cant uninstall itunes in order to reinstall. If anyone could please help me it would be muchhhhhhhhh appreaciated. Thanks!

    Carly,
I went through the same thing. Searched again for another error I was seeing and found this help from Delgadoh and this finally fixed me! He mentioned this article: iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376.  But I had not read it.  I went straight to his instructions below.
If you haven't already tried these steps:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer.
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.

  • Please help...I have tried almost everything these forums have suggested!!

I have seen other people criticize post-ers for their lack of details, so here it goes:
    (1) I was running the other day with my 4GB iPod Nano 1st Generation + Nike Sports Kit connected. Everything was going smoothly when suddenly the song I was listening to started to sound really choppy, a "stuttering" if you may. I started pressing the iPod Nano buttons, with no response. Note that I did NOT drop it at any point, and it was not wet etc.
    (2) I went home, unplugged the Nike Sports Kit thingy, and then started the recovery process via iTunes 7.0.2 with all the latest patches. After it had finished recovering my iPod Nano, it went to the default next step of trying to sync it with iTunes. Now enters the dreaded "recovery loop" that everyone has been talking about. This happened to me about a dozen times.
    (3) I took the forums advice and first attempted to reformat the iPod Nano via Windows XP Pro. To my dismay, Windows showed that the device was connected to My Computer, but it did not let me explore the contents of it, nor did it let me format it or even access any part of it. All my efforts at reformatting it (I even tried via the DOS command prompt) met with the message "device cannot be formatted." Since Windows XP Pro cannot even let me access the iPod Nano in any fashion, it is also impossible for me to change the drive letter (which others have suggested, and I have tried).
    (4) Lastly, I tried the "create new user ID in Windows XP Pro, reinstall iTunes, etc" AND I even tried using another computer! After doing this and attempting to recover, the recovery loop occurred again, but also had the pop-up message of "...iPod Nano may be corrupt, try recovery/replugging device in blah blah..."
Any suggestions? I am willing to try anything.
I apologize for the long post, but I am particularly angry since my 1 year warranty ended 2 WEEKS AGO. Steve Jobs is a brilliant man indeed...

Looks as though you've tried most everything -- but I don't see mention of you connection directly to the modem to test the connection with the router out of the loop - and don't see where you "reset" the router after the firmware upgrade
You might want to 'start from scratch' and throw a "reset to factory default settings" into the procedure
Re-flash/re-install the most current firmware version and then reset the router by holding the reset button in for at least 30 seconds - disconnect the modem and connect a PC via a hard wire in the #4 port of your router -- then reconfigure all settings re-connect the modem to the router and do a power cycle of all devices (in the correct order) -- and you might as well re-create the network connection in your PC(s) being sure all settings match the settings you configured in the router
And then cross your fingers -- and check back if further help is needed -- supply as much detail as to exactly what you have tried, ie.. OS, type of broadband connection etc...

  • Recovery mode, i have tried almost everything, help

    I need some help.
My ipad cant get out of recovery mode, and nothing happends when i connect it to my computer (i have itunes installed, and the newest verson of it)
I have tried all links on google, youtube... but i cant find anything that works.
    Pls. Help me?

    Hey Emil648g,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the device is stuck in recovery mode. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If you put your device into recovery mode by mistake, restart it. Or you can wait 15 minutes and your device will exit recovery mode by itself.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,

  • Using both Firefox 17 and 18, browser, still freezes unexpectedly and randomly even though have tried almost every suggested fix on mozilla support

I have tried almost everything in support forum to end the freezing problem, and just when I think the latest thing I have read has solved it, it happens again.
One page it freezes once in a while is: http://www.nationalpost.com/index.html. Other wise it is random sites that I visit.
The only thing I havent done is disable the add-ons that I rely on all the time, namely
ReminderFox, Sage, Email Link, and Flashblock, all up-to-date.
I currently have four plugins enabled, being: Adobe Acrobat, itunes application detector, Windows media player firefox plugin and Shockwave Flash, all are up-to-date.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Hi Guys! I have an Imac with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and bought a wireless keyboard. Unfortunately I can´t use the volume buttons on the keyboard. I have checked almost everything, does anyone have any good idea?

    Hello, try kguy's solution here...
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2332457?start=0&tstart=0
First, Go to System Preferences, keyboard, and click on the Keyboard tab
Make sure that the checkbox by "Use all F1, F2, etc, keys as standard function keys" is NOT checked.
Next, click on the Show All button, and select Bluetooth. You should see your Apple Wireless Keyboard listed on the left side of the screen.
Click once to select it, and then click the gear icon at the bottom of the box, and choose Disconnect.
Power off the keyboard by holding down the power button on the keyboard for a few seconds until it show "keyboard Off on your imac screen, then turn it back on again.
The device should appear once again in your bluetooth list.
Try out the volume control buttons now, and see if that cleared things up
