IMac won't see my Canon FS100

I can't upload video from my Canon FS100 using iMovie 7.0. The camera shows up on the desktop as "NONAME", but under the system profiler the USB port sees it correctly. I've hunted through the discussion boards and tried several of the suggestions; none of which worked. I thought maybe I needed a software update so I downloaded iMovie 7.1.4. When I tried to install it I get an error that says "An eligible iMovie application was not found in the location /Applications."
I'm running an iMac G5, with OS X 10.4.11.
HELP!

Going back to the beginning and reading your first post again...You are unable to install 7.1.4. You are at 7.0. If you install 7.1.4 you can most likely use your camera with no third party workarounds.
Th upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1 was a major upgrade. So my recommendation would be to first download and install 7.1 Once you do this you will be able to upgrade to 7.1.4. [Get the download on this page|http://support.apple.com/downloads/#imovie]
There is a post on the FS100 which describes the exact steps to import from this camera. I assume you have seen this post. So go ahead and get the software updated. Be sure to run software update as well. At some point there was an iLife update that was required along with the iMovie update.

  • TS5221 my IMAC won't see my new iphone5S?

I plug it in just like the I Phone 4S and my IMAC won;t see it as a device? Also the transfer they did at the store lost all my inforamation?  Ihad to set up all my emails again?? This never happened when I bought the Iphone 4S.

Hi - is the Firewire drive a Western Digital MyBook? That's what I have and have exactly the same problem. I've got a late 2009 iMac and the only way it'll connect and be seen is via USB. The drive will happily connect to my previous gen iMac, it just seems it won't talk to the 27 inch via Firewire.
I did some searching on this 18 months ago and found others with the same problem so I've settled for USB. It does mean that via USB I can use it as a bootable clone if I have any problems with the 27" (I don't think the WD MyBook can boot via Firewire even if it could see the drive - could be wrong on this bit though ).

  • Up graded to yosemite, imac no longer see's Canon 7d.

I used iphoto in the week to down load some pics as normal. Upgraded to Yosemite a day or so later. I can no longer see my Canon 7d auto on  my imac. The auto update updated iphoto also. Yosemite Version 10.10.1 - iphoto Version 9.6 (910.29). How can i get it back to seeing the camera. Usb port ok, usb lead ok.

    HI,
Go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart the iMac.
That doesn't alter your settings, just resets Airport.

  • IMac won't see HDD, no matter what I do - Please help!!!!

    Hi,
I have a 2009 iMac 24in (4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm) and ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I have one problem after another. I have erased the HDD on numerous occasions, 7 and 35pass, due to it not seeing the HDD, have tested (iDisk) the HDD and all seems fine, reset PRAM & SMC, tried safe mode etc, but nothing seems to work.
It will boot from CD, but every time I try to install, it won't see the HDD. I have tried connect via Firewire to another Mac, but only on one occasion was the HDD seen; that said, I was able to retrieve data, so at least that's one saving grace.
It's still under warranty, so I'll be taking it to Apple and dumping it on them, but given that I cannot afford to buy another Mac to replace this one, I was hoping that someone could give me a few pointers to getting this going, whilst my MacBook Pro is being sorted out.
Yes, I have two Macs in trouble (MBP has black screen), but I need one working for business use, whilst the other is being sorted out.
I really hope that someone can help me with this one, as I'm pulling my hair out!!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
There's no doubting the cost per GB, particularly from Apple, but would I be wrong to assume that my overall user experience would not be better with SSD, than with HDD; taking cost to one side of course.
I use my Macs for business and quite honestly, the downtime I have experienced is more costly than the extra cost per GB of an SSD.
Appreciate that SSD technology is fairly new, but I work in the Film and TV industry and nearly every new camera with on-board recording is using SSD technology and I don't hear of many complaints or issues, as far as reliability and stability of the technology is concerned.
I do accept that an SSD in a computer is going to be doing a helluva lot more work, but the technology has to be better right?
Ultimately, am I making a good move or another making another howler by opting for SSD over HDD?? I acknowledge that's very broad question and open to a lot of opinions/personal preferences etc, etc.
    Thanks.

  • My iMac won't read my Canon Rebel XT

I've had my iMac for a couple months now and have never been able to get my Canon Rebel XT to show up on it. I plug it in via usb and turn it on and it just reads "busy" on the screen continuously, and doesn't show up anywhere on my iMac. I tried Googling an answer to my question multiple times but all solutions assume that the camera shows up on my iMac, which it does not.
If this is the wrong place to post this question please direct me as to where it would be appropriate. Thank you in advance for any help, I really appreciate it.

I won't show up in the Finder, but should still import into iPhoto. Optionally, you can take the card out and insert it into any SD card reader that registers with your Mac. Then you'll see the card in the Finder listed as a Canon EOS (if properly formatted with your camera's Initialization routine) You should be able access the USB SD card like any other drive or USB device.
While in the camera, though, I believe you will only get iPhoto to import from it.

  • My iMac won't see my firewire hard drive

I'm trying to connect an external hard drive to my iMac. It just doesn't see it- I've been using it fine on 2 other macs. Always the drives just appear but there is nothing. I've tried different cables, 400/800, but it's just not there. Help would be greatly appreciated. It appears fine via USB but it's way too slow a connection

  • FCPX Won't See My Canon HV20 (never had a problem before)

All of a sudden, FCPX isn't seeing my Camera... I was using Firewire 400 and then I purchased a FireWire 800, and...Nothing.
No matter what I do, I cannot import. I've trashed preferences a couple of times....
I'm running FCPX on an iMac 3.06 GHz Core i3 with 16 GB of memory!
I'm right in the middle of a project!
    HELP?
    J M Prater

Your Canon HV20 is a firewire 400. If you have an iMac with two FW ports, you need to determine if they are 400 or 400/800. If you have an external hard drive, and not using to store your PCFX stuff, discontect it. Then plug in you Firewire 400 cable. If your External hard drive is used with PCFX, try daisy chainning your HV 20 to the HD.
If none of this works, on Apples web site under store, under Mac's look for cables. I found 3 that might help:
A Moshi 800 to 400 adatper 14.95 2) Moshi 800 cable with FW 400 to 800 Adapter 34.95 and 3) a Belkin FW 800/400 9 pin to 6 pin 29.95.One of these will get your HV 20 footage into your iMac.
With the newer iMac's FW toast. Thuderboldt in. They have an adapter for that. You might need a 400 to 800 then 800 to Thunderboldt.
I have both Canon HV 30 & HV 40, they are FW 400. That is the output from the Camera. My iMac has both 400 & 800 ports. I have an external HD to the 400 port, I unpug it & use that port for the camera. I also have an adapter for the 400 to 800 port, and that works also. Either way you can import your footage.
If you can, pick up a FW 400 cable. It is always good to have a spair.
    Hope this helps.

  • IMac won't see my music library on an external drive

I am running Yosemite 10.10.1 on an iMac late 2012 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 32GB 1600 MHz DDR3 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB and my music library is on an external disc drive a WD MyBookLive 3TB.
I used to run the external disc drive through a Sonos system but since moving it is now direct to the Netgear router. When I try to view the contents in iTunes it continuously shows that it is "Loading MyBookLive". How do I rectify this?
If I go to Finder and look for shared drives I can see the contents and even play the music from an alphabetical list. However, there is no way of searching for an Artist or Track using this method.

Really a library, or just media?  A library is a complete collection of files an folders including the critical iTunes Library.itl file, generally all enclosed in an "iTunes" folder.  You do not direct iTunes to open a library with preferences, you do it by holding down the option/alt key while starting iTunes and guiding it to the .itl file you wish it to use.

  • IMAC won't boot with Canon PIXMA MP130 connected

with the printer connected to the machine even with the latest Canon drivers my Imac simply sits idle at the boot stage until I pull the usb connection. Then it continues to boot.If I connect the printer after boot it seem to work fine...what the heck is up ?

It should show (via the times) what service failed to start or sat for ages when the lock up occurred.
Do you hear the normal startup chime when the printer is connected? This would indicate if the POST check has passed.
If you do, then it sounds like the Open Firmware is having the trouble, as it is responsible for initializing the hardware and selecting the OS to use. However, given that you are using Boot Camp, I'm not sure if this changes things slightly.
I would be taking the iMac and the printer in to get checked. By taking the printer, you can try connecting it to another Mac and determine if it is causing the problem.

  • IMac won't see my iPod video - help!

It's been working fine for ages and all of sudden froze while it was syncing ... and I disconnected it even though it said "do not disconnect". Clearly the beginning of the end ...
I have tried everything .... my iTunes is up-to-date, as is all of the software. I have done the resets, let the power drain completely, put it into disk mode - everything! Everytime I connect it, it freezes at the "do not disconnect" screen - and it is not recognized in iTunes or in Finder. I tried it on my iBook as well - same problem.
It still works, but will not sync and so I can't update it with podcasts, new music, etc - help!

  • IMac won't see DVD Files

When I insert a DVD with data files on it, my iMac mounts it as an "Untitled DVD"
When I insert the same DVD into my Macbook Pro it shows up properly named and shows all the files that are on it.
How do I get the iMac to recognize the DVD as viable  DVD with files on it?

You need to figure out if the disk was finalized. OS X does not support multi-session DVDs. If it is not finalized, it sees it as a blank disk.
I had not considered bratman's observation on where it was created, but if created on a Macbook, it should have been finalized.
If it was finalized, then you have a problem we may be able to solve.

  • Canon 7D-Mac won't see it

Oops, I posted this as a reply in another topic, so I'll do it here as a new one. My Mac won't see my Canon 7D when I plug it in. It should show up as a drive, just like my little AVCHG camera does. I have installed Canon's EOS Utility software, and it will see the camera and take in stills, but not video. So I know the cable is OK. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Had the same issue when a client brought in a HD project on a 5D MKII.
I located the movies on the 5D with iPhoto and imported them and then moved them to
my capture scratch folder. There's probably a better way but that worked for me with a tight deadline.
Have you tried Log & Transfer??

  • IMAC won't read sandisk 8gb sdhc from canon hf m-31 hd camcorder

IMAC won't read Sandisk 8GB SDHC card from Canon HF M-31 HD camcorder

    Your camcorder is fine with iMovie 09. My suggestions are two;
1)Canons sometimes take a little bit of effort to connect. Try disconnecting and then reconnecting your camcorder. Try shutting down iMovie and then turning it back on. I have a Canon hf100 usb camera also and love it. I just put up with the odd frustration of it sometimes not recognizing the connection.
    2) Click on the camera icon in the main iMovie interface (middle, extreme left). See if your camera is "seen" my iMovie. If not, try disconnecting and reconnecting the camcorder.
