IMAC won't turn on after installing Magic Mouse

Hello
I Have an intel 2 core duo aluminum. I installed the magic mouse and now I cannot star it. I get the Grey screen, Some time with the apple, some times just the gray screen. When I load the installer disk and run disk utility, the hard drive does not show up. Any Idea on how to fix my problem?
Thank you
Raoul

I'm afraid so. Still. I wonder how it just happened the exact moment I installed the magic Mouse. Thought it could be a compatibility issue
Thanks anyway
Raoul

The Avast antivirus software was downloaded onto my imac and now my imac won't turn on. What should I do?

Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
Read and follow all the steps.
If you find yourself at Step 6 determine if you can start the Mac in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
Remove the Avast garbage by using its uninstaller. Never install it, or anything like it, ever again.

  • 2008 iMac won't turn on after Mountain Lion installation

I have a 2008 iMac with 6GB of RAM that was running on OS X 10.6.8 perfectly. Tonight I upgraded it to Mountain Lion. After the installation, my machine was running slower and a little choppy, especially when first opening programs, even though it meets all the requirements for Mountain Lion. After about an hour or two of running like this, I was standing away from the computer for a minute when I saw a flash come from the monitor. I went to it and the screen was black. I thought maybe it had went to sleep, but nope! It was completely off and would not turn back on. No lights or sounds come on at all. There was no power outage or anything, and all other devices plugged into the same surge protector were working fine. I tried plugging it into another outlet and still had no luck.
Any insight onto what caused this? Is it most likely a power supply failure, and could this have been caused by the Mountain Lion installation? Considering I've had this computer for almost 5 years and this has never happened before, it seems obvious that this contributed somehow.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm going to try to take it to an Apple store soon, but the earliest appointment is a few days away.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It's quite possible that the power supply failed. The failure is difficult to be related with OS X Mountain Lion, so I would discard that. In some cases, it's normal that you experience slowness after installing a new OS X version because Spotlight indexes the hard drive.
The best you can do is to take it to an Apple Store or reseller so you can get your Mac diagnosed. Now we can't do anything else apart from thinking that is a power supply issue

  • IMac won't turn on after power cut

When my iMac is unexpectedly turned off, ether at the wall or during a power cut, it won't then come back on immediately.  Sometimes it will come back on after an hour, sometimes after a couple of days.  Anyone know why this is? There is no logic to it. I've tried all the trouble shooting stuff; the resetting SMC for example. And I've got a surge protector. I've also taken it into an Apple store, a round trip of 3 hours, twice already over the past couple of months.  But after doing some diagnostic tests on it they can find nothing wrong.  Also, when they go to turn it on, it fires up immediately.  I was told that unless they experience the problem themselves they can't do anything.  Which means I'm forever taking it in to them, during this problem, on the off chance it may still be a problem when I get there.  It's very infuriating. Help!!!

Great advice.  And I'll definitely do that - need to get my Mac back on and working before that however.

  • MacBook (Mid 2009) won't turn on after installing software updates.

My macbook white (mid 2009) won't turn on. I was going to install mountain lion so I performed a software update. I click install and reboot. It installed within a few minutes, but when it was rebooting the apple logo and the buffering sign popped up, and that went on over night. So I held down the power button to turn it off. It did the same thing, what should I do?

Not the right time to update and go to sleep. What updates? How much free space was on the hard drive?
Try inserting the OS installer disk in the optical drive and powering up holding down the c key.

  • Unable to wake screen using magic mouse or trackpad after installing magic mouse

    Dear Everyone,
I am using mbp 15 inch early 2011 with 2 GHZ intel i7 processor and a  4gb ram. I would like to tell you that i have installed the mac os x lion and quite happy with the improvement. however, there are same changes which i am not sure whether it is that my mac that causeing theproblem or the bug from the lion itself. i am unable to wake my mbp screen using my magic mouse or trackpad after installing lion. i believe that my mbp has not really enter sleep mode as i dont see the sleep indicator at the bottom right corner flickering. i also believe that it is only the screen that goes to sleep while the hard disk is not. Normally a single swing  of the magic mouse or a single swipe of the trackpad will normally wake the screen. in order to wake the screen now is only to click on the magic mouse or trackpad. furthermore, scrolliing page using magic mouse also become unusual after installing the lion. does any of u happen to come across these problems as well? Is there any other way to downgrade to snow leopard back? (i ask this in case that this issue really cannot be fixed). Please help me on this issue. Thank you very much for taking your time to read and reply this thread.
    Moonbasher (henry)

First, Lion does not wake on mouse or trackpad movement, only clicks or keyboard presses.  This is presumably to avoid waking the computer from display or full sleep accidentally, and is just how Lion works.  It's going to take some getting used to, personally, but I've noticed my mac hasn't woken up on it's own.  Apparently moving about my apartment moves the mouse enough that Snow Leopard used to wake the iMac.  This is not a glitch, and unfortunately, a downgrade is a complicated matter, involving erasing the HD entirely, and restoring from a backup created in Snow Leopard and not used with Lion at all, or manually importing important bits of data, as libraries upgraded by new versions of Mail, iCal, etc will not be compatible with the old versions.
In terms of your mouse scrolling, describe it in a bit more detail; Lion introduces "natural" scrolling, where instead of the mouse wheel moving the "window" over the contents, it moves the contents through the window, like scrolling on an iPhone or iPad.  In other words, think of your finger on the mouse as pressing on the page you're looking at and dragging it upward through the field of view.  I remember long ago thinking my very first scrolling mouse was backwards, and then adjusting to "down is down, up is up".  If this is the behavior you're experiencing, this also is the way Lion works.  This, however, can be changed in the mouse or trackpad preference pane in system preferences.  Simply deselect "natural" scrolling.
In a more general sense, its usually not a good idea to do a major software upgrade on your primary machine unless you're willing to deal with some zero-day glitches.  It sounds like the issues you're having aren't actually glitches, and you should be happy for that, but in the future, you might want to wait a few weeks for other users with more experience with major OS launches to find those bugs and point them out to the community for Apple to fix.  In terms of an OS launch, I think this has been absolutely one of the best.  I'm seeing very few major glitches resulting in lost data, few things that would really destroy my personal workflows, and compatiblity issues with other products seems to be well documented or negligible.  It's also a bit hasty to assume that mere hours after launch Apple would have any ability to fix ACTUAL problems with the OS.  My recommendation would be to get used to the change; having to click the mouse at least means you'll never accidentally wake your machine bumping against your desk.

  • IMac won't boot up after install of latest Mountain Lion update

I installed the recommended software update to Mountain Lion last night on my 27" i3 iMac (8 GB RAM).
When I tried to boot my iMac this morning the "install updated software" pane was visible and it note that the installation would be "less than a minute" before it was completed.  After half an hour I left for work.
Am I alone on this and what is a possible rememdy?

Try turning off the computer with the power button, then turn it on to allow it to restart.

  • Has anyone encountered their iphone won't turn on after installing the 8.1.3 update?

Has anyone else encountered this problem?  The update took about 15 minutes.  After the update the phone wouldn't turn back on. I hit the power button and a the iTunes logo appeared with a lightening cord, so i plugged into my pc to iTunes.  iTunes had a pop up telling me that I needed to restore the phone back to factory settings and I would lose all my data that isn't on icloud.  Before I hit restore, are there any other things that I should try?  I already tried hitting update again and it won't complete the update.

The message is correct. Once you see the iTunes logo and the USB cord your iPhone must be restored. It has already lost all data stored on it. You can recover your data from a recent backup if you have one. You can recover all purchased music and apps without the backup. When I updated our 2 iPhones, I backed each of them up to iTunes before updating just in case. I recommend that you do this before you do any future updates.

  • Old imac won't turn on after a week of inactivity

    Hello,
I'm aware this question was answered elsewhere on this forum but the issue there seemed to be that the imac had been moved and/or jolted. In my case, I went to New York for a week and when I came home the imac just wouldn't turn on. I've bought a new power cable, checked all the connections, disconnected peripherals, tried command/control/power etc. Nothing. I've even tried starting from a Norton utilities disk.
There were no date/time issues the last time I used it but is it possible this could be a battery problem? Any thoughts why it might have just stopped after a week of not using it? (I normally have the computer on every day).
    Please help!
    Thanks,

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • IMac won't turn on after resetting SMC

Recently my 2011 iMac starts uttering strange noise even if the fan speed is low so I decided to reset SMC this morning. However, after unplugging for 15 sec and plug again. it just won't start! No matter how I pressed the power button, there is no reaction coming from my iMac. I tried to long press for 10 more seconds, re-unplug and plug in, and tried another socket on the wall but in vain. Do you have other ideas 'cause I have not backup my data and hope to grab something output before sending it to the APPLE store. Thanks.

If you get no video or audio at all and you have confirmed it's not the power source or power cord then that indicates your power supply may have failed.

  • IMac won't turn on after scheduled shut down

Hi, hope someone here can help me!
I have a 20" 2006 iMac. While it was still under warranty, it repeatedly froze, and eventually when I turned it on the screen remained blank although I could hear that the hard drive was at least trying to get started. I got it repaired (new logic board, new screen), but now I am having some of the other difficulties mentioned here, where the screen freezes when using graphic intense software, including 3D games. Sometimes, it works fine for hours, others less than 2 minutes. I used to keep it on all the time, with energy saver set to go to sleep when possible. I've found, though that the graphics problems are less likely to happen if it has been off at least overnight, so I set up the schedule for it to turn itself off in the small hours. The problem is, when I go to turn it back on, it won't come on unless i pull out the power cable from the back of it and put it back in again. Any ideas what's causing this? And any ideas on what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks

This just happened to me today. Not sure what to do as yours was the only discussion like this.
Please let me know if you were able to restore it and how?
Extremely frustrated since it was brand spankin new!!

  • IMac won't "wake-up" after installing latest security update

I have a fairly new iMac G5 2GHz, and just installed the latest security update yesterday(4/1/06). Since that update, everytime my computer goes to sleep, I can't wake it up.
The power light is on and I hear the computer running... I can even hear the error "bonk" when I try and hit a bunch of keys, but still won't wake up. Was NEVER a problem until yesterday and I haven't installed anything else.

  • Airport won't turn on after installing Mac OS X 10.5.7 onto MacBook Pro

I have had my MacBook Pro for about nine months now and the airport has works fine up until this point. For some reason whenever I try to update my system to OS X 10.5.7 my airport will not turn on. Instead of seeing the wirless bar icon in the top right menu I just see a triangle with a pull down menu that has the option to: "Turn Airport On". But whenever I try to click on it nothing happens. It seems like no matter what I try I can't get it to turn on. The only way I can get my Airport working again is to reinstall OS X. I am currently using OS X 10.5.2 and everything works great! So I am wondering why does my standard airport extreme on my MacBook Pro not work with OS X 10.5.7?
