IMac won't turn on, all I did was unplug it!

Any clue as to why it does this? I know some of you are rolling your eyes.....lol but help?

Just a few suggestions to make sure you've tried some of the obvious things it's easy to overlook.
You've probably done this, but if you've moved it to a different location have you checked that the new socket you're plugging in to definitely works. Also, have you checked the fuse in the plug and have you got another lead you could try?
Also, are you certain that the lead is fully seated into the back of the Mac - sometimes needs an extra push to ensure it's fully connected.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Imac won't turn on after anti virus software downloaded

The Avast antivirus software was downloaded onto my imac and now my imac won't turn on. What should I do?

Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
Read and follow all the steps.
If you find yourself at Step 6 determine if you can start the Mac in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
Remove the Avast garbage by using its uninstaller. Never install it, or anything like it, ever again.

  • IMac won't turn on. Only a clicking sound and a grey folder with flashing question mark.

iMac won't turn on. Only a clicking sound and a grey folder with flashing question mark.
    Help.

Your iMac is actually turning ON as proven by the grey folder with the flashing question mark.
The flashing question mark indicates that your system is unable to find a bootable volume. The clicking sound that you hear is probably coming from your hard drive while it tries to recalibrate. I suspect your hard drive has failed.
What model imac do you have? If it's under warranty I suggest taking it in for service. Hopefully you've been maintaining a regular backup of your data as all users should. I lost my data once and it was a valuable lesson. I back up regularily now.
If your iMac came with install disks then you can boot from them, choose your language when asked, then pull down the Utilities menu to launch the Disk Utility application. The Disk Utility application will allow you to verify whether your hard drive has an issue. Usually a clicking sound, assuming it's coming from the hard drive, is a sign of a bad hard drive.
If your system has Lion installed then you can hold down the Command and R keys when you restart the system, then launch the Disk Utility application from the menu that appears.

  • Macbook won't turn on all the way.  Please help.

Macbook won't turn on all the way.  At first it only showed the grey apple logo, but now it says that I need to restart the computer by holding down the power button for several seconds or pressing the restart button.  I tried this already but it's not doing anything.  Please help.

    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • My brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way.

Hi my brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way. If I try to restart it or shut it down, it will go like it is starting up, but goes to a gray screen and stays there. I can see the mouse and move it, but it won't turn all the way on. What is wrong with it? It had been working fine since I got it, but today it hasn't been.

You may have to see if troubleshooting this issue can help, though the instructions on a process of elimination by symptoms are tedious in the following support article, and are suggested to be performed ahead of trying the process described in the title.
•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
For the actual SMC reset, note subsection in above, instructions click-open on blue text:
    >Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
If the computer does not shut down, and just hangs there, try pressing the power button down for 15 seconds. Check the suggestions in the above article to see if any of them can be used, if the computer will power-up.
There is another item that sometimes can help, but the main issue you say could be resolved by the SMC reset; this other thing is involved NVRAM (non-volatile random access memory) so here's an article about it.
    •About NVRAM and PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    >Resetting NVRAM/PRAM opens in above, click-to-see instructions on how to reset.
You may have to call ahead to the nearest Apple Store for an appointment to see a Genius; or at authorized reseller, their service product specialist who should be trained to understand how to proceed, just in case there is a hardware issue behind the symptoms. When you call, be sure to have the serial number and purchase date available, when you call an official store.
Or use the 'Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support' to start the process...

    Hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!

something like the APC Back-UPS ES 700 should suffice.

You said "reset," so Meg assumed that's what you did. But "reset" is not a button; to reset the phone you must hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears. You may have to hold for up to 30 seconds, and if the battery was completely drained, you will have to restore iOS using iTunes on your computer.

  • My ipod basically restored itself and all i did was reset it! HELP PLEASE!

okay, im so aggrivated right now. this is the SECOND time my ipod does this! UGH!
so what happened was that my ipod froze. no big deal, it freezes every now and then. so i reset it, by pressing the sleep and home buttons and sliding the power off thingy, ive done this before. but for some reason this time when my ipod came back on, it gave me the screen that appears when you first get an ipod touch, you know, the itunes symbol with the cord pointing to it. so i plugged it into itunes, and it says that it has detected an ipod in 'recovery mode' and that i need to restore it, but if i resore it i lose EVERYTHING. and i sync manually, so itll take like a day to click and drag all my songs, and reinstall all my apps. ill restore it if i have to, but i just dont understand why this happened. and its the SECOND time! a while back, all i did was plug my ipod to itunes, nothing different, and it came up with ZERO songs, and ZERO videos. but everything else was there!
so what do i do? this isnt something that should happen. do you guys think i should contact apple? is there something THEY can do? should i restore it? please help!
btw, thank you if you actually read this whole ramble.

okay so i restored my ipod, and reinstalled the apps. except for etchasketch, which said it encountered an error. but all my music is gone. ill resync that manually tomorrow because itll take a while. thank your for replying. but i dont think that the apple support wouldve done anything because my itouch is way older than 90 days. i got it for christmas last year but my parents had bought it in early december. but everythings fine now, i just REALLY dont want this to happen again!!
oh and maybe it wont because i had just bought a new app, and just installed it when it froze, so maybe something was corrupted. thanks for the help.

I was working on my iPad and it turned off suddenly and now it won't turn back on.  It was at least 50% charged and when I tried to connect the charger it still will not come on.  Is there a reset button?

Thank you so much!  It worked, I was reading around and saw this has happened to a number of iPad users.  Thank you for your prompt response, I was so worried I broke it or something.

You will Not be able to get rid of it entirely...
Other is usually around 1 GB...
A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup...
But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup...
Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • My 2012 iMac won't turn on. No response at all

My iMac will not respond what's so ever to the power button. I have no idea what to do

Hesitate to even suggest this, but the electric plug at the back of the iMac has been known to come loose.  Make sure it's in solid.
Reason I even suggest this is my GF called the other day, said her iMac wouldn't turn on.  I told her to check the plug and that fixed  it.
If you've already done that please ignore all this.
