IMac Wont Burn Audio CD...

Error:
The attempt to burn a disk failed. The device failed to responded properly, unable to recover or retry.
Received this error while trying to burn an audio cd in iTunes (8.0.1). Tried using multiple cd's and songs. Songs are purchased from iTunes if that makes a difference. I am still trying to diagnose the problem and coming up empty handed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

my son is having the same problem. He has Windows Vista, when he tries to burn CD gets message that says "disc recording not found". I've read in a couple other forum threads that this is bug in the iTunes program that Apple has yet to fix. He finally transferred his music to Windows Media Player where he was able to burn a disc from there.

  • IMac wont burn over 2x

Recently I've been making a few video's from our holiday footage. Using Final Cut Express and using toast to convert the .mov files to a DVD Video.
However when Toast is writing the final data to disc, it never goes above 2x.
I've read that the media you use has an effect on this, but the media I have purchased is rated at 16x and burns fine on my windows PC.
I understand that the iMac DVD writer is only capable at 8x on DVD-R (MINUS R) media. I'd went to my local Apple store and asked one of the Geniuses and they think that the software is restricting my burn speeds for the best quality burn possible.
I've ordered some Verbatim DVD - R's that has been recommended from a well known forum that this particular media is manufactured from Japan from a company called TY. Which raises my next question if the iMac still doesn't burn above 2x, could I purchase an external DVD writer and will that allow me to burn above 2x? or will the software still limit me to 2x burn speeds?
Thanks to everyone in advance for taking the time.
    Happy Holidays to all !

There is NO REASON why the apple iMac drives should be reduced in speed
I've done many burns with different drives and it's a sad excuse to try to explain it in terms of improper media being used.
It's clear firmware on the burner mechinism has been throttled back.
There's some possible reasons for this:
    • Noise Reduction (Personally, I want to know when something is working)
    • Energy Use (iMac's aren't laptops on batteries!)
    • Burner size and heat generation for faster speeds is too large for the slim profile iMac design (not likely)
The winner seems to be this one....
    • Pressure on Apple by Entertainment companies to limit piracy (as part of the iTunes store contracts)
To reduce the ability of people to make and copy DVD's efficiently.
Nor do other mechinisms made by the same companies that produce the internal mechinisms used in the iMacs.
Those burn at higher speeds and a zero failure rate.  My old external burner (lightscribe) still gets 16X speeds for the same media / file that my internal drive may run at 4x rate for.
Apple must be assuming that many professionals use external DVD/Blueray burners for their data DVD Burns. I know for a fact that my coaster rates are  ZERO for large files being saved in this manner.
It's an inredible waste of my time to have such slow data transfer speeds  when the PC crowd doesn't have to deal with this.
I'm basically sitting on a unused internal burner... even for small client files .. it's a waste of my time.

  • Burn Audio CD and Time Stretching audio - software on the iMac?

I have a new iMac 24 running OSX 10.4.9 and had two questions:
    1) Is there software on the iMac for buring an Audio CD? Created a song and I am trying to figure this one out.
    2) Is Garageband able to time-stretch a song? I need to edit some performance songs that need to end at a specific time. I use Sonar on my PC to do this but wondered if Garageband or another utility on my iMac could handle this.
    Thanks!

    1) iTunes will do that (not GB). Just create a playlist and click "Burn Audio CD". (That's the default setting.)
    2) GarageBand can do that, but you'll have to play around a lot to achieve it. I'd recommend an audio editor like Audacity or SoundStudio - there you can change the tempo of a song (without affecting the pitch), and it will tell you immediately how long the result will be.

it sounds like a tagging problem, but I'm not sure how to help.... what kind of files are they? Typically, if they are organized properly in WMP, they should organize well in the Zen... go to WMP and try the advanced tag editor.

  • My imac keeps ejecting my discs, wont burn anything either

my imac keeps ejecting my discs, wont burn anything either

Are these CDs? DVDs? or both?
Have you tried using a different brand of disks? Some work better than others.
Does it eject all disks or only some? Only blank disks or some that have already been made? Commercial disks or burned?

  • Cant Burn Audio CD in iTunes

I have an iMac G3 10.3.7 with iTunes 6.0 and Im having trouble burning Audio CDs from iTunes. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi everybody,
It sounds like you all might be talking about a problem that a lot of us are having involving burning purchased music in iTunes 6, specifically in 6.0.1. I'm including the name of the thread in question:
"Can not burn purchased music since upgrading to 6.0.1"
Just enter that into a thread search and you should be able to find it.
Kay, not to put you on the spot, but I notice you have a lot of answers to other questions regarding iTunes on the forums... Any ideas why I can't burn purchased music on iTunes 6.0.1 (problem didn't occur 'till I upgraded)? It tells me (and others) that my burner speed is to fast. But no adjustment of the burner speed helps. I can burn imported (ripped) music onto a CD just fine, the hardware works. I tried "repairing permissions" on my hard drive (as per a friend's advice), then was able to burn a CD-RW with success. Tried burning the same playlist with purchased songs onto a CD-R, same "burner speed imcompatibility" message. I've ruined 5 discs this way, and desperately need to figure out a solution. Any thoughts?

  • Cannot open burned audio CD's any longer

I am running OS X Lion 10.7.5 with all updates and cannot open burned audio CD's anymore.  DVD's and store bought music CD's work.  Any ideas?

Memorex do not have a high reputation, and some superdrives are more picky than others.
What you could try is to make a copy of the DVD on a recommended brand of media, and see if that works on the iMac.

  • Disc info on burned Audio CD, not transferrable

I am completely baffled. I am burning Audio CDs of a speech. The speech is an M4A format and I have created a playlist for it. The sounds burns fine on CD. The problem I'm having is I entered all kinds of information and artwork for the CD, and it appears to burn fine on my new MacBook, but when I share the CD with a friend, or try to play it on my other computer (iMac), all the info is gone and some bogus info is there.
Any clue what the deal is?
    Please help!

    Minnie,
From the iTunes 8.01 help file: "CD players in some vehicles can display information stored on CDs; select Include CD Text to use this option." You'll find it in the "Burning Options" dialog which pops up when you click the "Burn Disc" button.
Not all CD players will display CD text. For more info, read these:

  • Can no longer Burn Audio CD's

I have a Compaq CQ50 142US laptop and have never had any problems burning audio CD's until about a week ago.  Now when I drag several tracks from my Windows Media Player library to the "Burn List" column and click the "Start Burning" button it shows that each track is being "Analyzed"- then ,"Being Burned to CD"- and after showing this for the last track in the list it says "Disc being Finalized". Now in the past after a few seconds the CD/DVD tray would automatically pop open and I would have a great sounding CD,but now I have to press the button on the tray and there is nothing on the disc. But when I put the same disc back in and try to burn again I get a message telling me to put in a BLANK disc. I contacted the online techs and was told several things that should correct the problem ,including performing a total wipe and restore which I did with no positive results so I took my problem to a local computer repair shop and they said that it appears that my burner is shot. They didn't have any there so I figured I would order one online. I may have failed to mention that I am by no means a computer whiz so when I tried finding the correct part to hopefully solve my problem I realized quickly that I was trying to speak a totally different language and would need some expert help. So here I am !....All I know for sure is that my laptop supposedly has the "LightScribe" feature and that when I go to "Device Manager" and click on, "DVD/CD-ROM Drives", it says that my laptop has a, "TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633L ATA", with no mention of LightScribe. I went to several sites offering parts for laptops and found that there are dozens of burners with SOME of the letters and numbers as mine, but none that are exactly the same . There was, DVD +RW TS-L633 , DVD PLUS over MINUS RW Drive 485038-001 TS-L633 ,DVD RW CD RW Combo Drive SATA TS-L633, and one that caused a bit of concern since I am supposed to have "LightScribe" was the one marked, DVD RW Lightscribe Drive TS-L633 .
Can someone please tell me which part number I need to order so I will be able to burn CDs as well as DVDs and will be able to use the Lightscribe feature on my Compaq CQ50-142US Notebook ?
Thank you in advance for any and all help you can offer !

I won't pretend this is a welcome suggestion...but if worst comes to worst, you could consider purchasing Toast.

  • My burned audio CD/DVD from iTunes doesn't play on a CD/DVD audio player

If I burn audio CD or DVD from my iTunes, I cannot play this music on an external player. Any recommendations? Thanks
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Hi I just burned an MP3 CD straight from iTunes, and it doesn't play on any MP3 CD player I've tried it on (car MP3 deck, DVD player that plays audio CDs, and MP3s). Audio CDs burned from iTunes work fine though.
I've read somewhere, that when burning MP3 CDs from iTunes, iTunes burns it with Apples standard format, rather than CD players standard format of ISO 9660. And that is the reason why burned MP3 CDs from iTunes only plays on a Mac.
A work around I've done was select all the songs from my list duplicate them in another folder, and then reconvert them in MP3s (so that I don't have to search all over the place for each MP3 file). I then burned these MP3s onto a CD-R using toast's MP3 CD format. And it works on all my MP3 CD players. However, in doing this process, I've lost all the tags for each MP3. The only thing that comes up in the display is the name of the song. Artist, Album, etc... don't show up anymore.
Is there a way of burning an MP3 CD that will play on all MP3 enabled players, while keeping all ID Tags intact, in iTunes?
    Thanks.

Power down (assume you have already tried the SMC reset) and insert the Applications DVD that came with your new iMac. Boot up while holding the "D" key down (may be best with a wired keyboard) to run the Apple Hardware Test according to these instructions:
