I have connected my time capsule to motorola SG6580 modem via ethernet.  I have a wireless network on the motorola and a wireless network from the time capsule.  I get duplicate IPs error messages (no connection) sometimes when trying to connect devices to the wireless network. How do I fix? Sometimes devices cannot connect to the network because of conflicting IPs.  I look on the Motorola and every device has a unique IP assigned but occasionally a device has taken the IP of another device.  I have been writing down all the devices and the IPs they have been using.  It happens more with PCs than Macs, ipads or iPhones.

If the Time Capsule is set up correctly in bridge mode, then it is the responsibility of the Motorola modem/router to provide the correct IP address assignments for all devices on the network.
Check to insure that the Time Capsule is correctly set up to operate in bridge mode as follows:
On your Mac, open AirPort Utility
Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Insure that the setting for Router Mode is configured to read "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Once you have confirmed that the Time Capsule is configured correctly, everything else is the responsibility of the Motorola modem/router as far as network routing and IP address assignments for devices.
If you continue to have IP address issues, then you should contact the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that provided the Motorola device to you and ask them to fix the issue.

  • How to migrate PowerBook G4 Tiger to new MacBook Pro 15" Lion via ethernet cable? Migration Assistant to old to update, apparently.

How to migrate PowerBook G4 Tiger to new MacBook Pro 15" Lion via ethernet cable? Migration Assistant to old to update, apparently.

Ah, a Powerbook. I miss that.  Anyways, I believe that the Powerbook G4 has an Firewire 400/800 port.  Why don't you do that?  It's fast, and you don't have to set up one of those funky reverse wire ethernet cables.  I wouldn't use Migration Assistant, but that's just me.  Too many issues.  I'd start up your brand new MacBook Pro and during the setup assistant, it'll ask you to transfer data from an older Mac.  Using firewire with a Target Disk Mode, it's pretty fast.
If you have already opened up your new Mac and are using it, then use Migration assistant, but also with the Firewire (preferably 800).

  • New D-Link router won't connect to DirecTV cinema kit

Just got & installed a new D-link DSL 2750B yesterday. I set it up with my existing SSID & WPA passcode -- all my devices work perfectly, EXCEPT my DirecTV cinema kit which is a wireless receiver. IT was fine until the new setup. I spent ( so far ) over 5 hours trying to set this up. The DirecTV techs ( 2 ) I spoke with don't have a clue. I reset everything multiple times to no avail.  The DirecTV forums list several resetting steps, all of which i tried. Nothing. If anyone has any clue as to what i can try, I'd certainly appreciate the help. The router didn't come with any manual and I'm not too comfortable changing any settings other than the security mode ( WPA, etc ) without some guidance. Thanks in advance.

Bottom Line: If you have a Dlink DSL2750b from Verizon and are trying to install DirectTV cinema connection STOP RIGHT NOW and save youself the five hours I just spent learning that the two are simply incompatible.
For some reason no one at DirecTV knew this and put me though endless paces to no avail, including a change to my router password that now means I have to reconnect all of my devices.
Once I learned in DirectTV forums that this Dlink modem router is incompatible with DirectTV I called Verizon and the tech agent said, "Oh yes that one is incompatible with DirecTV." And he cheerfully ordered a free replacement, the Actiontec GT784WNV, which I haven't gotten yet but was promised it will be fine.
    Two Questions:
    1) For DirecTV, why in the world isn't this a known issue for your tech team so that they don't have to belabor consumers with hours of troubleshooting that does no good.
    2) Most importantly, for Verizon, why in the world do you even send out a modem that isn't compatible with the growing use of internet connection equipment for TVs? Or at least tell us before we order them.

  • G5 imac wont connect to gigabit switch at 1000

    Hi,
I've got a G5 imac that wont connect to my gigabit switch at 1000. It looks like it connects at that speed for a few seconds then it drops to 100. I have a new Macbook pro that can easily connect at 1000 using that exact same cable.
Has anyone heard of any gigabit issues with G5 imacs?
    Thanks,
    Scott

I am now pretty sure it is the imac ethernet port. Connected the imac and mini together and eventually it set itself to 100Mbs.
Now trying to decide if it is worth getting fixed or just dealing with it only connecting at 100Mbs.
    Thanks

  • I cannot connect external USB HDD to my new TP-Link Router

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new TP-Link Modem Router with a USB port on the back.
I have been using a WD My Passport external HDD for Time Machine backups and photos for some time. I ususally connect it directly to my Macbook each time i want to backup.
With the new router, I was hoping to connect the HDD to the USB port and be able to connect over my wireless network, but have not been able to.
The router recognises that a HDD is connected to it, but the Macbook will not allow me to find it or connect to it.
    Any ideas or help?
    Thanks

What kind of drives, and how are they connected? Do they have external power supplies or just use the usb bus power? Do they work in a different mac?

  • Photosmart C7280 wont connect wirelessly

Upgraded home wireless to the new Wide Open West Ultra TV which uses an Arris wireless modem.  Wireless moden works great for my laptops and tablets in my house but I cannot connect the Photosmart printer wirelessly.  I contacted Wide Open West and confirmed all settings and passwords on their end.  Printer does no register any SSID names and is about 2 feet away from the modem.
I used the wireless setup wizard and entered correct SSID and WPA password but still wont connect.  Need help and I am not very computer savy

Disable and turn off all security on the router temporarily and try to connect to your SSID unsecured.  If successful go back and turn on WPA2-AES security and try to connect now.

  • Mini connected wirelessly to new AXTREME. but...

I took the new Airport Xtreme out of the box, plugged in the cable modem and immediately connected wirelessly to the new Airport. I somehow managed to set up security, so I think my wireless network is secure. I am only using it at g speeds since my particular mini does not support n.
Now that I want to go back into the setup details for the Airport, I cannot manage to get there. I can still connect to it and get to the internet, but when I try to use the Airport Admin Utility (Finder>Applications>Utilities>AirPort Admin Utility) it cannot connect (error says"This version of AirPort Admin Utility does not support this base station"). When I go back to the Utilities folder and try the AirPort Setup Assistant, the station does not appear on the list (even after I hit "scan again".
How do I get to the station's settings? How would I even be able to update its firmware (which I guess I wouldn't need to right now since I just got it, but at some point I would want to be able to...). Thanks for any input!

Did you install the SW that came with your Airport Xtreme? There should have been a CD accompanying your Xtreme. Installing the SW should give you a new application:
    Finder->Applications->Utilities->AirPort Utility
AirPort utility is the application to use with Xtreme.

  • Trouble connecting HP Photosmart D110 wireless printer to D-Link router

We just installed our new all in one modem/wireless router that we received from Verizon yesterday.  The computers connected fine but our HP Photosmart D110 wireless printer will not connect.  We tried many different things.  It connects fine when using the new D-Link with our old wireless router connected.  It will also connect to the modem if there is no security encryption.  Does anyone know how to solve this problem?  Thank you!

HP sales usb wireless adaptors. 1315v has a USB connection, I believe.

  • Can't connect wirelessly to a d-link wbr-2310 router

I'm having trouble getting a friend's Core Duo Macbook hooked up wirelessly to her d-link wbr-2310 router when I try to enable WPA security.
When I type in the ip address and go to the admin page of the router and select no security for the wireless network it works just fine, and her computer is able to get on the internet, but when I set up WPA, the wireless network is still seen, but I get an error message when I actually try to connect to it.
It would seem to me that there's an issue with the computer itself, rather than the router . . but I don't know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Yeah,
I've tried it with WEP, WPA Personal, and WPA2. It seems that for whatever reason, if a password is involved with logging onto the network, there's an error message.

  • Laptop with Windows 7 wont connect wirelessly.

Hi. I just got a new toshiba laptop and upgraded to windows 7. But now I can not connect to my WRT54G wirelessly. It works fine if you use an ethernet cord. Does anybody know how to solve this?  Any help would be great.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Check your wireless security settings in the router and make sure they are the same for your laptop settings.
Disable IPv6 on the Win 7 computer under LAN properties for all adapters both wired and wireless.  Disable UPnP in the router.  Reboot computers and try again.

  • Unable to connect wirelessly to new DSL modem - HP Deskjet 3050A - HELP!

I have a HP Deskjet 3050A J611g - I've had it a little more than a year (so out of warranty) and it has also been connected wirelessly to my HP laptop and other devices without any issues.  Last month I had to get a new DSL modem from AT&T (the brand is PACE and the model is 4111N).  Ever since getting the new modem my printer will not maintain a wireless connection.
I worked with AT&T tech support just after getting the modem and they were able to get me connected (they had remote access to my computer - uninstalled, reinstalled drivers, etc.) but within a few days I lost the wireless signal and cannot get it restored.  I have worked with AT&T tech support for more than 10 hours - several different reps - and still not working.  I have researched the issue myself, tried all of the troubleshooting steps provided by HP and others.  I'm at a loss.  My printer works if connected to my laptop with a usb cable but not wirelessly.
All my other devices are able to connect wirelessly to the modem, just not the printer.  I'm at my wits end!  What is left to try other than paying HP support for their assistance?

Access your router and make sure that MAC Filtering is turned off.  Also, set the encryption type to WPA2-PSK (AES) only as HP printers don't work well with the TKIP encryption type, and set the Mode to 802.11g only as that is the Mode that HP printers work best with.  Being on channel 11 shouldn't hurt anything unless there is a device that uses the same channel in the area then you might get some interference.  Give these things a shot, and let me know what happens.

  • IMac wont connect to internet

OK.. I hope someone has an answer to this...
I HAD a custom built PowerMac G4 Sawtooth that was a faithful machine. Rarely had any problems with it. I have CABLE INTERNET. The G4 connected to the internet FINE via Ethernet. I recently bought an iMac Intel Core Duo from a friend and proceeded to use the migration assistant to move my files over.
The iMac now serving as the main machine WILL NOT connect to the internet via the SAME ethernet cable and modem setup that the G4 had ZERO problems with. Fortunately my neighbor has wifi and im able to use his.
I just dont get it though, WHY WHY WHY will the iMac not connect? It says its connected to the modem but the internet just fails. Ive tried power cycling so i know that wont work. This is DCHP, it should just work.... ?
To make matters worse, during the transfer from the G4 i forgot to eject the system properly and shut it down while in TDM. So shes dead... Wont power on at all.
So i have no other system with which to check the internet connection on. This is the first time ive ever had something like this happen.. Im actually frustrated with my MAC. :-/
    HELP!

Hi SanHachi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Did you power down the Modem yet?
They normally only remember the last Hardware connected, power it down completely for 5 minutes, power up, power up Mac.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Airport Interface...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

  • Connecting WRT54G with Westell Versa Link router via wireless

    Hi,
I have a Westell wireless router from verizon which seats next to my phone in one part of the house.
I got very week signal from that router on the other part of the house so I decided to use a WRT54G version 2.2 router I had to improve the signal.
I can set up the WRT54G fine if i use a cable but I don't like that solution. It would be almost impossible for me to run the cable from one part of the house to the other.
So that let me with only one option. make the routers commuunicate with each other via wireless. I tried for several hours to make this work and I couldn't.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me if this is possible and if so what are the steps involved to make this work.
    Thanks in advance

    1. The results are far better running a cable than setting up a wireless bridge or repeater. Thus, unless it is really impossible to run a wire I would always prefer the wired option.
    2. A WRT does not connect wireless to anything else with Linksys firmware. It is a wireless router. They only provide an access point to which clients connect but the access point never connects to anything else.
    3. The only alternative would be to flash a 3rd party firmware. Those usually add repeater and/or bridging capabilities. See the wikipedia article on "WRT54G" for a start. Remember, a bad flash may brick the router.
