IMac Yosemite connection problem

Yesterday updated my 2014 iMac to Yosemite 10.10.2 .
Up to that moment everything worked ok but after updating the iMac doesn't connect to Wifi, doesn't connect to the internet even when connected by ethernet.
How the **** can you restore an iMac that doesn't connect to anything?

In System Preferences --> Network --> Location bar (top of the screen). Pull down the the menu bar and click on "edit locations". Click the plus button to add a new Network Location then click Apply. See if that will force your iMac to connect to a network.

  • Imac internet connection problem (says connected, won't load any website)

I cant begin to express the incredible amount of frustration I have had with trying to get a fully loaded Imac 2011 connected to the internet.  I am currently residing in Dakar Senegal, using Sonatel Orange as a service.
I am on a network where EVERY SINGLE piece of gear connected to it works 100%, including my ipad, cell phone, Asus PC. I have no connection issues and as of now typing this message on the very same network that the IMAC appears to have a problem.
I have called tech support and they walked me through several steps which resolved nothing so I am hoping the community can help me.
Whether I connect to my router directly with an ethernet cable, or use the wireless to connect, it give me green lights, says its connected to the isp but not to the internet.  Obviously the internet works on this network or I would not be sending this message from my PC.
DNS was the same as the router and the same as the one on my PC.  I even tried 8.8.8.8 and that did not resolve the issue.  Like I said it says connected to the ISP but the internet and server lights are red on the IMAC diagnostic tool.  Everytime I try to connect the IMAC to the internet via the router via wireless or the ethernet cable, It does nothing, and actually I have to reboot the router to get it to work for the PC or any other device.  Its as if the IMAC does something to the router and requires a reboot to reset it.
IT is DHCP enabled, thus not a PPPOE connection.
If I cannot get this resolved, I will be boxing up a $2500 machine and sending it back to apple.  I cannot believe that I buy a practically fully loaded apple for the first time, and cant connect to the internet.  I will go back to PCs and not look back if this does not get resolved.  2500 bucks is WAY to much to have internet connection issues.

Sorry to hear about your connection problem, you have a great computer but sometimes small things can cause a major problem.  Did you check your firewall, make sure it is not blocking traffic.  Click on system preference>security & privacy then click the firewall tab.  If it is on then turn it off and see if you can connect. I would also reset the SMC   As a last check open your network utility and take a look at the status of your network card and link status.

  • Intel iMac airport connection problems

    Hello,
My new intel iMac connected up to my 802.11g 3come wireless modem/router fine, the strength in excellent (always full or nearly full) but the connection is very very intermittent.
It will only work for a minute or so but then the internet will go down on the machine for about 30 seconds, then come back on.
The network file sharing also goes down. Other Windows PCs on the network do not have this problem.
I have tried the following, none has had any effect:
[*]Turning off all other network PCs
[*]Disabling all encryption on the router
    [*]Using different browsers
[*]Calling Apple support - first they asked me to adjust some networking options, we also setup a new network connection. They then sent me a replacement iMac - it's exactly the same
The firmware is up-to-date on the router.
I am aware there are similar posts in the forum, but other people's problems seem to be to do with their speed. None of the solutions have helped.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your support.
    Davood

I wasted hours and hours trying to figure out a similar problem with my machine. Apple Support denied all knowledge of known issues, but then I came across a discussion titled "Will Apple react to the Airport problem with the new iMac (Intel C2D)?" - you will find it on the 5th page (at the moment) of these topics.
It is one of the largest threads I have seen in these forums (113 replies). I tried to add an update, but curiously the thread is now locked - Apple are obviously keen to censor further discussion on the subject.
Apple do now acknowledge that there is a problem with Airport and the Intel-based Macs. They are supposedly working on a fix, but when that will come is not clear.
I would urge everyone with Airport issues to pester Apple Support until they solve this problem.

  • HT204380 Imac facetime connectivity problems

When I attempt to connect to Facetime (IMac Mountain Lion) I get the message:

So the problem is not your iPhone then.

  • Retina iMac Yosemite reinstall problems

I'm trying to reinstall Yosemite on a Retina iMac, but I cannot get the machine to reboot into recovery mode.  I am using Command-R and holding it down throughout the boot sequence and all that comes up is a black screen with a white Apple logo.  At that point it just hangs.  Any one have any thoughts about what is going on?  Thanks for any insight.

What happens if you use the option key on boot up (push that key right at the bong sound)?  Also if that does not work try command-option-R for internet recovery.

  • When will Apple fix the Yosemite connection problems with Bluetooth and USB?

Since my Yosemite upgrade, my Apple mouse disconnects randomly - with increasing frequency, and my USB port does not connect properly with devices that used to work just fine.  Is there a way to reverse Yosemite?

  • Imac yosemite x problems

CAnnot start or restart.  Get error saying computer encountered an error and will resart which it does.  Same error measage and a flash of highlighted dialogue on left screen.  Restarts itself and half way through loading bar same thing happens.  Continuous cycle.  Have tried starting in safe mode. Have reinstalled os and everything.  Continues to happen.

Yosemite is a free upgrade. If you have currently a solid Mavericks system and do not need any of the features of Yosemite, then you do not need to upgrade. Just be aware that should you ever need to reinstall Mavericks you no longer will be able to re-download it. Thus, you would have to install Yosemite at that time. Note that you can download the Yosemite installer and save it somewhere. Simply Quit the installer application after the download rather than clicking on the Install button.
You may wish to assure you have a bootable clone of your Mavericks system should you not want to lose it. To do so requires an external or internal drive that can be completely erased and is equal to or larger than your current startup volume.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the spare drive. Source means the internal startup volume.

Trying to connect my JawBox to my Mac. It doesn't recognize it, even though my ipad does. Suggestions how to hook up.

    Hi helisa,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
There is a possibility that the issue is with your phone since you mentioned you can send files from your laptop to your phone. Let's isolate this by follow these steps:
Using your phone, try to send file to another phone or other device. You may also send file to a different computer to test. If still the same result the you may coordinate with Xperia Support for assistance.
Power cycle the laptop and your phone.
Re-pair your phone to your laptop. Delete the previous settings and repeat the process.
Reinstall Bluetooth driver of the laptop - go to Device Manger -> Bluetooth -> right click the driver name and select Uninstall (DO NOT DELETE).
For further assistance, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
    Hope these help.

  • Yosemite connection problems

    Hello fellow Mac users,
Since I upgraded to the new Mac OS I've been suffering from repeat WIFI disconnections. Has anybody encountered the same problem? and if so are there any fixes that I could try?

  • TS3276 Web through this step-by-step, but alas it did not solve the problem. For some reason I can download mail on my Macbook Pro, but no my iMac. Connection Doctor shows all green lights.

Went through this step-by-step, but alas it did not solve the problem. For some reason I can download mail on my Macbook Pro and iPhone, but no my iMac. Connection Doctor shows all green lights. This started today when I was prompted to re-enter incoming mail server passwords. I re-entered passowrds yet again to make sure they were correct. Rebuilt the inBox. Connection Doctor continues to show all green lights, but am still unable to download mail to the inbox. Has anyone else ever run into this problem?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • New 27" iMac: AIRPORT & BlueTooth Connection Problems

    Hi There,
My 24" Intel Imac (C2D) has been replaced with new 27" iMac.
The problems mentioned below did not exist on the 24", However, I have real wireless
    connection problems with the new 27";
    1. AIRPORT: 27" iMac will not create Network (Computer to Computer) therefore I am unable to connect my iPhone 3G to its WiFi Network (some iPhone Apps - require WiFi)
    2. BLUETOOTH: Although the 27" Imac is paired with my iPhone 3G - it will not connect iPhone to
Bluetooth..... BT options for both iPhone and iMac are ON and set as Discoverable.
(Note: Apple Wireless Keyboard & Apple Magic Mouse are both connected)
It seems as though Apple have changed procedure for actioning the above on these new 27" iMacs,
however they have not documented what is required to make it happen..... OR its a bug in 10.6.2 ??
If anyone has similar problems or knows of a workaround - all comments and advice would be much appreciated.
NB: This 27"iMac has no problems joining with an Airport Network (Airport Extreme Module) which then allows the iPhone 3G to also connect to that (for WiFi) But, that would seem to be an awkward and unnecessary proceedure ??
I'm baffled - there seems to be something missing (in OS Software or Procedure)

    Sound like some strange issues.
    1. AIRPORT: 27" iMac will not create Network (Computer to Computer) therefore I am unable to connect my iPhone 3G to its WiFi Network (some iPhone Apps - require WiFi)
So you don't have a wireless network that you normally use?
    2. BLUETOOTH: Although the 27" Imac is paired with my iPhone 3G - it will not connect iPhone to
Bluetooth..... BT options for both iPhone and iMac are ON and set as Discoverable.
(Note: Apple Wireless Keyboard & Apple Magic Mouse are both connected
Are you saying that the iMac is using Bluetooth to connect to the keyboard and mouse but can't connect via Bluetooth to the iPhone?

When opening iMac it has difficulties to find WLAN network. I have to use network assistant several times and shut down the computer.
Sometimes there are no difficulties, sometimes i have to try half a dozen times.
My new iMac Yosemite was created by copying with Thunderbolt the contents of my old iMac, where I used in the beginning Airport.
    Now I have cable modem.

  • Airport extreme connection problem after adding computer to network

just added new imac to my network and for some reason my older imac {dome desktop} seems to have stopped recognizing the AEBS. the older imac was hooked up to the AEBS by ethernet and when i moved it across the room it fails to read the AEBS. I had installed the airport card a few mos ago and i know it worked...although most recently was ethernet connected. I cannot be certain the new computer addition is even related but seems to be. Have checked all the airport utility settings and see no issues. I did fool around with some network sharing features on the imacs so ? if that can create issue sharing the AEBS. Interestingly the affected imac does detect the AEBS in the utility app but times out when attempting to connect. also think i may have done recent AEBS download upgrade and see threads related to that as poss issue . have reverted back to older AEBS software without success. new ibook and new imac detect/connect without problem. Any thoughts out there??? thx for any help.

Is your AEBS configured to create an 802.11g compatible network? It must be for the iMac G4 to connect.
What channel is the AEBS configured to use?
If the AirPort Extreme card in your iMac G4 is from the US it can only use the channels between 1 and 11. If your AEBS is from somewhere else in the world it can use other channels which are not available for use with equipment from the US.
If your AEBS is not using a channel between 1 and 11, change it and see if your iMac G4 can connect.
