ImacG3 boots then shuts itself down-HELP Pls

Hi all,
This is my first post so I'll just let y'all know that I've searched for a few days to try to find the answer myself but to no avail .... I've been Sys Support for Mac networks for 20 years and am now working freelance at home. Here is my problem ...
1)-- I have an imac G3 333Mhz OS9.2 that was booting fully but had black screen so I rebooted and zapped PRAM; after I did this now the imac boots, green key lights on monitor, then it whirs, then green light lights on caps lock on keyboard, then it shuts itself off. Hmmm, any suggestions. Previous to this, I started an OSJaguar install but it hung up so I was forced to pull the plug. It would boot from OSX CD but now won't boot from any boot CD.

No need to deactivate to reinstall on the same machine, but you might want to use the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3)

    Hi daveormond,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iMac. If you continue to have issues with your Mac shutting down part way through the boot up process, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful (given your description, it sounds like it could be either issue, or a combination of both):
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup - Apple Support
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem." - Apple Support

  • InDesign misses 150+ plug ins, then shuts itself down.

Cannot launch inDesignCC. Downloaded it, then when I try to launch the program: After some 150+ messages about missing plug-ins, it shuts itself down. This means I cannot deactivate the program either. (and re-install, see if that would help). Anyone who knows about this problem?

  • I have had my new 21 inch iMac for 2 weeks in that time my iMac has shut itself down by itself without any prompting from myself.  It goes to screen saver, then shut itself down can anyone provide an explanation for this occurrance

Hello, purchased my 21 inch imac 2 weeks ago within the last week I have notice my imac shuts itself down after a short period of time once the screen saver is activated.  Is there anybody out there who can through some light on this matter.  Is it a common occurance?  is there anything to worry about?  Should it happen at all?
    Tony

When you say it shuts down, do you mean it powers off, so that you have to reboot it to continue? Or does it merely sleep, or blank the screen?

  • Can LV70 spawn another application then shut itself down?

Im am not advanced in using spawning technique but I need to try to spawn another application from within Labview
then exit out of Labview while the spawned application continues to run.
I figure this might give me what I need.
This is all about making a delay in the startup sequence of win98 SE (yes win98)
I need to introduce a 30 second delay between Application 1 and Application 2.
This is to give the first application time to run and complete before the next starts because they both use the same resources and cannot be started simultaneously.
The applications must be started in windows (from the windows startup folder)
I have not found a way to do this yet.
Thanks in advance for any help

You should be able to simply start the first application, wire a delay (30 sec) and start the second application.
Once LV does this, it will exit itself, but since the applications are now externally controlled (you didn't close them within the vi), they should continue running.
If the applications are executables ("exe" types), then you can call (activate) the application by using the "System Exec.vi".
    DLL's are a different story...
    Hope this helps..

  • Why does my Iphone 4 keep freezing then shutting itself down?

an app will freeze then that freezes my whole phone, what can i do to stop this?

Clear the App from background memory, and then try it again.
Do not use the faulty App.
If this happens with all Apps, Restore iphone firmware with iTunes, when asked at end set up as New.
If still problems could be faulty battery, which will be covered by Warranty.

  • MY IPAD WAS WORKING THEN SHUT ITSELF DOWN

I have tried plugging in the charger and this still has not switched it on !

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • After the ios7 update I have been unable to open the i-tunes store on my i-phone5, it basically flashes up for two seconds and then closes itself down, anyone else had anything similar and no a fix?

Since updating to ios7.0.2 on my i-phone5 I have been unable to open the i-tunes store app, basically it just opens for a second or two then shuts itself down, I've tried a soft reset, turning on and off, closing down all running apps but nothing seems to work, anyone else had the same problem and no how to fix it?

    Hey there Fistycuff,
It sounds like iTunes launches for a split second, then quits unexpectedly.
I would recommend a few things for this issue. First, close all the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that, sign out of your iTunes account in Settings > iTunes and App stores, and restart the phone:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, I would next backup your device to iTunes, and restore it:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.
You also said: "It also will not let me download any music onto it." What happens when you try to sync music to the iPod?

  • Won't boot....shuts itself down

Help. Power Mac G5 Dual 2 GHz won't boot. It chimes and gets as far as the white screen w/apple logo and pinwheel. The fans grow louder and louder and then it shuts itself down. I have a BT wireless keyboard so I can't boot from a CD/DVD. My next idea is to borrow a wired USB keyboard so I can try to boot from a restore disc but I'm at a loss as to what else to do. Any ideas?

Disk drive, Disk Warrior, FW case, maybe SuperDuper and it is nice to have something designed to backup or synch folders like TriBackup or Personal Backup.
The time of course to start using Disk Warrior is when things are working, and not even wait for the problem to get so bad that even Disk Utility notices something isn't right.
It is more important to pull the files off than to fix the drive. As long as it can be mounted in FW case that is good enough, and forget trying to fix or anything. Even if I run into a problem that is "repairable" I still prefer to nuke the drive and restore from backups.
No matter how good or perfect a utility is, I've also run into times when it wasn't worth the time, trouble and effort to keep re-running Disk Warrior weekly after I had some bad ram write bad data (GIGO).

  • TS1884 How do you cope with a system that shuts itself down after a safe boot progress bar is completed?

How do you resolve a problem with a system that shuts itself down after a safe reboot and when the progress bar is completed? Thanks.

Thanks for you response - the honest answer is I don't know, not being particularly IT literate. I do know however that I'm running Maverick if that is of any help?
I also tried the Command R route, along with holding some other keys as per the Apple troubleshooting guide, but no luck. My wife pointed out though that the system was running slowly over the last few days and we had quite a lot of the 'spinning beach ball' before being able to undertake tasks.
Lastly, I inserted my start up disk bit as the system is unable to start I'm now unable to retrieve it. All-in-all a real pain.
    Appreciate any advice. Many thanks.
    Philip
