Image Adjustments Hue-Saturation / Ctrl U crashes CS4

I have been running CS4 for about five months. There have been problems - speed, stability - but here is a new one. Out of the blue, selecting the Hue-Saturation panel eithe rthrough the menu or by keystroke brings up the eyedropper - functioning - but essentially crashes Photoshop. It goes on running - you get 'blind' menues - but it is impossible to switch the eydropper off and you consequently have to close CS4 from Windows. I have rebooted, it still happens. I am oath to reinstall until I know if there is afix for this.

I hate to keep repeating the same mantra, but have you tried resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.)

  • Image Adjustment Hue/Saturation questions

I have a picture of a car that I selected, that was originally red, and I am using Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation to change its color. The slider shows specific colors beneath it, such as blue, though that is not the color that the car color is changing to.
1.) Is it not changing to that color because I am selecting a blue hue, though after mixing with the red color of the car it becomes a new color?
2.) Is there any reason to feather the selection I made to the car prior to changing its color? Does this affect it at all?
3.) Are there any other tips for making the image appear better when doing something like this?
    Many Thanks!

    Sorry, I am using CS5
1.) I was doing the Hue change previously to the "Master" in the drop-down and it seemed to change the color the same way as it is with the drop-down set to "Reds." What is the difference?
2.) If the 2 points in the middle are the ones that determine which range of colors get affected, what are the outer 2 points determining?
3.) "The first bar shows the colors as they appear originally." Is the first color bar showing a spectrum of all colors in the image? Because there are lots of colors in that bar, and the car I selected is just red, so I would think it would just show red if it was only colors in the selected image.
    Thanks!

  • Adjustments/hue/saturation

Using Mac Snow Leopard--when I click hue/saturation I don't get a dialog box, only the eye dropper appears, then I have to CMD/return to get out. Other Adjustments work fine. This is a new development, it worked fine recently.

No, it's not a bug.  It's user error.
At one time you either had a secondary monitor attached which is now disconnected or you had a larger display screen resolution (more pixels wide by more pixels high) which you have since changed.  In either case the modal dialog box is now off screen.  You have no chance of finding it without first trashing your preferences.
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

  • How to add presets in Adjustments - Hue/Saturation

    Hello togehter!
I am using CS5 and would like to add/import new Hue/Saturation presets -- but I can not see any way to do so.
    The standard presets are
    Cynotype
    Incerease Saturation More
    Incerease Saturation
    Old Style
    Red Boost
    etc.
Is there any way to add more presets or to upload new presets-- or to save my own presets in order to these presets in different projects?
Would be happy for any comment/idea!
    Thanks a lot

  • Changing hue/saturation

I make a selection and choose Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and it seems the colors are completely off when I have the colorize option selected.
Should this checkbox not be selected when changing colors this way? I know that this could also be done with an adjustment layer, I am just curious why the colors seem off.
    Thanks.

If your goal is to keep a full range of colors, but skew them on the spectrum, you'll want to make sure Colorize is turned off.
Colorize works by taking the average value (pure grey) and setting it to be equivalent to your new color (in the Hue/Saturation sliders). This then gets tinted and shaded (using the whites and blacks in your document). Essentially, Colorize fakes a dutotone image (the only colors will be the one you select + black).

  • Basic Hue Saturation Question

Using Image > Adjustment > Hue Saturation
I notice there are reds on both ends of the spectrum. How do you decide which to use?

Consider the band as the cut and straightened representation of a radial gradient.
So the exact extremes on either side are the same; +180˚ and -180˚ on a circle describe the same point.

  • Using Hue Saturation to change color of shirt not working

In CS5, I tried to make a selection of a white shirt and used Image > Adjustment >Hue Saturation, though when I drag the Hue slider, nothing happens, only a little bit of pixels of color change. Why is this.
    Thanks.

    1. So this is simply the wrong tool to change the color?
Are you familiar with the geometric representation for the HSB- or LCH-model?
The straight line connecting white and black is the axis that’s totally neutral, so changing the Hue or the Saturation/Chroma has no effect on points located thereon.
You can still use Hue/Saturation to colorize neutrals by checking the Colorize-box.
Or create a Solid Color Layer of the intended color and set it to Blend Mode Color and use a Curves Adjustment Layer to adjust the Luminance below that.
    Edit:

Figure 2a might be helpful in illustrating the gray axis.

  • Hue/Saturation of one Layer?

Is that possible? I don't want the hue to change the entire image and what I'm trying to change is glowing text so selecting it is kinda out of the question. The text is on it's own layer though can I just adjust the color of that layer?

If it's rasterized, directly change the pixels by selecting that layer, then just running Image - Adjust - Hue/Saturation...
    -or-
Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue / Saturation, and check the box that clips the adjustment layer to just the one layer beneath it:
    -or-
If it's just the color of the text itself you want to change, select that layer then choose the Text Tool.  You can change the color of the text by adjusting the color in the options area at the top of the Photoshop main window.

  • Can't preserve hue saturation in cs6

When I colorize an image in Hue/Saturation in CS6 I see it correctly as a preview, but when I click OK it reverts.
    Any ideas?

Are you viewing it at 100%?

    Good day!
What is "place" supposed to mean – open, place as Smart Object, …?
What are the image’s Color Mode and bit depth?
Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?
Does Window > Adjustments not raise the Adjustments Panel?

  • Blending an image into a background - hue/saturation grayed out

Thanks for your help. I am trying to blend an image to a background as is illustrated in this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSehcaWFBVM
Rather than using the overlay tool, the lady in the video suggests using the ‘hue and saturation’ option to blend the photo with the background. I get all the way to this step, but then the ‘hue and saturation’ option (and pretty much all of the options under image – adjustments are grayed out. The ‘modes’ for both the background and the photo are the same (RGB and 8bit). I have been at this for hours (>4) and I cannot get past this step. I would be extremely grateful for some help as to how I might ‘free up’ the adjustment options and have this photo look similar to that showed in the video.
    Thanks.

You'll get a lot more help in the Photoshop forum. This forum is for suite specific issues only.

  • Using hue/saturation adjustment layer to match color from another image?

How can I use a hue/saturation adjustment layer on image 'A' so that it matches the color of image 'B' please?

    Depends, John.
If you're able to create a reasonable selection via Color Range, feathered masking, etc, then by matching one specific color, you'll also be correcting for that entire range of hue. It might have been needed anyway...or you use a color filter to correct the whole image, if it's needed.
As we all know, each image presents its own specific challenges and solutions.
