I have created a subtitled video from a .mov source, exported in mp4. It plays fine on all media players except QT, where there are several errors in the image. Any way around this? (Source & export both in AVC1 / h.264).

I think that's completely normal for H.264 image compression. You have a lot of fine detail in the video and H.264 throws away the fine detail. Those window blinds represent a perfect example how H.264 destroys your video by reducing fine detail. If you want to use your video for the web, H.264 is great. If you want to use your video in an editing system such as Final Cut Pro or iMovie, don't ever use H.264.

Image Capture and MP4 and MOV with iPhoto

Using Image Capture, I tried to transfer pictures and movies (MP4 and MOV) from my iPad 3 to iPhoto on my iMac. Things were looking good, images and movies were transfering fine, iPhoto had opened with all of them in a new event. I was able to play both MP4 and MOV from iPhoto. Then I quit iPhoto and Image Capture and launch iPhoto again and try to play the movies that I just imported, iPhoto says it can't find them. It seems that it can't find them if Image Capture is not running !? Although the pictures are fine. Can somebody help me ? Thanks for the help.

I needed that option off because I want to keep them only on my NAS, so PC users can still accesses them when needed. I didn't want different sources, only on that I know is "the actual source".
Now, I did import them on Images directory using Image Capture and it worked. Then I moved them to my NAS.
But I just realized that the iPad appears in iPhoto and that I can import them into iPhoto directly ! It works fine, meaning that if I disconnect the iPad from the iMac, the movies play just fine. The initial setup was to launch Image Capture when the iPad is connected to the iMac. I disabled it. I plan to use the import from iPhoto instead.
But I still need to keep those pictures and movies on the NAS as well. It means that I will need to export them on the NAS eachtime.

Problem batch exporting odd sized mp4's in After Effects?

Just been given the great task of converting hours and hours of supplied image sequences into mp4/ h.264 files for playing through silverlight. I envisaged assembling these sequences with their supplied sound tracks in after effects and outputing to mp4 with h.264 encoding
I'm working at a non broadcast size (1000 x 576)and cannot get the after effects h.264 exporter in the render queue (adobe media encoder) to swallow this size without throwing up an error. It wants me to stretch the footage to different sizes based on what few presets are available, when I want to maintain the current size.
I know I can export exactly what I want via the file menu (file> export>MPEG4) or via quicktime if I export a lossless file first, but I can't batch that in a render queue & I will have quite a lot of files to set off.
Is there any way to get the mpeg 4 render options as seen under file> export , working in the render queue as the standard options in the render queue seem limited?
Alternatively can any anyone recommend a good batch mp4 encoder app in the event I cant get everything I want out of after effects?

ok , i can see the problem.
try this if you need to finish your work within the next couple of hours:
use Ae render queue >> export quicktime >> Foto or Motion Jpeg >> download mpeg streamclip >> batch export to H264 mpeg4 >> done.
do a few seconds of render tests b4 you send the whole bunch to the batch. also 4 mpeg streamclip.
and if you are happy with the result, blame adobe...

White Lines appear on Images in Adobe Photoshop CS3

White Lines appear on Images in Adobe Photoshop CS3
Recently discover that on three different computers, while editing images in Adobe Photoshop CS3, white lines would appear on some of the images.
For example changing a image from a .jpg to a .psd or size, or enchantment features, the white lines would appear on the image.
The lines did not appear on any of the printed images, any suggestions.
Monitor: Sony Trintron Multiscan G4110
Computer: Mac G5

Although it is odd that three computers exhibit the same problem, and unless you can provide other coincidences (same files, same monitor, etc.), I agree. The video card is typically the culprit IF the image anomalies don't print and if they move about with each image resizing or opening of a specific image. Check to see if it's properly seated and connected. Same for monitor cable. Try swapping in another card.
One other thought: as this is a CRT monitor, what happens if you change the resolution and refresh rate? Are you using a recommended combination for that monitor?

"iTunes has stopped working" Windows 7 - Problem and Solution

Problem:
When I moved my iTunes library from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro, iTunes would always crash. The "Detail" on the error message referred to
Fault Module Name = Quicktime.qts
To troubleshoot I deleted the iTunes Libray.itl file in the user profile. Then I would "Add Folder" and point to my iTunes directory to rebuild the library. I then noticed it would always crash on the same song when "Processing Artwork".
The problem was caused by specific .mp4 song files that I had purchased from iTunes.
Solution:
This is not easy but it works . . The bad .mp4 files still work in iTunes on Windows XP. So in iTunes on Windows XP, right-click > Info > Artwork > remove the artwork from the .mp4 file. Then move the file to your Windows 7 computer and load it into iTunes. It now works without crashing. You can then add the artwork again from iTunes or from a .jpg off of Google Images.
Fix your .mp4 files one at time until there are none left that cause the crash. Remember you find them by processing the artwork . . the bad file will show in the little windows at the top of iTunes after the crash.
I am not an iTunes expert as such . . maybe there is another way to remove and replace the bad images from the .Mp4 files purchased from iTunes other than using iTunes on XP.

Minimum specs for use as a media centre?

I would like to have a Mac Mini hooked up to my tv to use as a media centre. i have worked out that i will be able to use it without a keyboard mouse etc by setting it up so front row or vlc load up on boot and using the remote, so am ok there...
my question is this - what is the recomended spec for it to be able to play hd movie rips in .mkv/mp4 format? i have a 1.25ghgz emac an that suffers horribly so i want something that will do the job effortlessly. obviously i could just buy the very latest MM but am looking to save a bit of cash if possible!

It might help to know in what way the 1.25 eMac suffers horribly in this situation, because in reality, the media centre functions of a system don't require particularly high performance or system specifications. For example, I have a 1.5 G4 mini hooked up to a TV, use Front Row to play mp4 movie files and either VLC or DVD player to play DVDs and it performs pretty well. The quality of image of the mp4 playback depends on settings when the files were ripped more than anything, and the overall quality of image depends a lot on the TV rather than the system.
It must be said that the almost any of the Intel minis is considerably more powerful than your eMac, but in itself, power isn't necessarily the answer!

White lines appear on OAM placed in InDesign

Hello. This is my first post in the forums.
I've just placed my first OAM file into an InDesign folio. The initial/downstage image views great in both Edge Animate and InDesign but once the folio is uploaded and viewed on a tablet device horizontal white lines appear. Has anyone experienced this behavior with OAM files and tablets? I've seen postings about white lines appearing in PDFs but not folios. Any ideas how to fix this issue?

Hi,
I am stil exploring my new MBP and i found out that to play avi files in front row i have to download perian, although i can still play .avi movies in vlc. zso i wanted to know if there is any difference in watching in front row and vlc in terms of video quality or anything else.

The new safari is not working well

I have safari Version 4.1.1
before i updated to this version I can surf fast but recently after the new updates while surfing it takes too long for the page to open the site and if it takes too long it will say failed to open the page and cannot find server
even firefox have the same problem but before these updates i was able to surf the net normaly
every computer in my house is working good so it is not from my modem or the verizon

MOS Scrollable Frame "pushing" background graphic

Following on from my animated magazine cover, I am trying to overly a scrollable text frame which a user can pull the contents on the cover page, however it is pushing the background video as I scroll as if it is grouped with the background image.
The background image is a mp4 file, a starfield animation. I have added a box and pasted into the frame a textbox with a red background. Here are the layers
I then selected it as a MSO as below :-
However on the preview, when the scrolling frames is dragged, it pushes the background graphic along with it.
Any ideas?

Transparent covers for videos

Does iTunes convert my cover images to jpg? I have png files that have alpha channel. When I add the image to my mp4 videos it shows fine in cover flow. After I close the iTunes and open it again the transparency is gone. I know that iTunes used to suppord transparent PNG format, have they lost the feature? Or is there something wrong with my library?

Color difference between AE and PP h.264 export

The screenshot should explain my problem.
I have a project in AE that I exported to a PNG Sequence, which I imported into PP. In PP, I exported my final output in H.264 format.
The result is in the image. The foreground image is the .mp4 file in QuickTime. The rear image is the source material (same frame) in AE.
I would love some guidance on what settings to look at when troubleshooting this discrepancy.

I've had troubles with Quirktime seeming to use a lighter gamma setting than PrPro ... at least, that's what it comes across to me as. Does this at times. What looks good in PrPro exports and shows in Quirky about the same as this example ... lighter mids/overall gamma, less saturation/contrast, slight color shift, less sharp.
And ... the next thing ... exports fine. Puzzles & irritates but that's why I've started calling it Quirktime ... at least on a pc, that is ...

Video error when posting to Facebook

I am able to successful create a video with video/photo/music. When it comes to the Publish/Share my video - it errors in the process of sending to Facebook in SD or HD
I have repeated the Send request multiple times with no final success.

Ther version of Premiere Elements 13 is the version on a MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7; 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB. OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2
When loading to Facebook the processing finishes - the progress meter gets to the end. The Error Message pops up at the end.
Vimeo and YouTube built in Premiere Elements feature work?
- I only tried YouTube but that did not work either.
What specific error messages are you getting with the Facebook failures?

How to avoid creator TVOD

When I export from for example iMovie using Quicktime, the files created always have a creator named :TVOD. Doesn't matter if I create .mp4 or .mov.
I am running into problems that when trying to use the movies in a some other program, the files are not recognized specially with .mp4.
When I open such a file with QTplayer X and export it as movie, the creatortype TVOD has gone and I am able to use the movie.
My question: How can I avoid the creatortype TVOD when exporting with Quicktime (Pro) the first time ?

Thanks for your answer, I am starting to understand (I think) what is going on. To my better understanding (lack of my English knowledge I guess): I am a long tyme user, over 25 years) from Apple, most of the time migrated my system. Does your answer imply that when I would "uninstall" QT 7 Pro, this would also avoid the problem or will everything created by Apple at this point of time contain the File type and Filetype creator ?
You don't have to uninstall the QT 7 Player whether keyed or not keyed for "Pro" use. What you need to realize is that QT 7 Pro will not change the "File Creator" code whether you save the file or export it using QT 7 Pro. It simply passes the original TVOD "File Creator" code on to newly created file container and may or may not change the "File Type" code depending on the new file container type.
For example, as depicted in the above image, the original MP4 file created by iMovie '11 ("New Project Test.mp4") shows that the "File Creator" app was iMovie (TVOD) and the "File Type" is an MP4 (mpg4) file type. If i then re-export the file using the QT 7 Pro "Movie to MPEG-4" export option, then the creator and file codes remain unchanged because QT 7 passes the "TVOD" code on to the newly exported file ("New Project Test QT7.mp4") and the target file container remains "mpg4" because the file container is still MP4. On the other hand, if I simlpy use the QT 7 Pro "Save As..." option to resave another copy of the original file, then the "TVOD" creator code is still passed on to the new file but the file type is changed to read "MooV" indicating the data was saved to an MOV file container. On the other hand, if I duplicate your work flow and save or export the original iMovie file using the QT X Player, then both the "File Creator" and "File Type" codes are changed as indicated above.
I should also note that I do not know what code (if any) is actually written to the QT X Player file output since the entry varies depending on which utility I use. For instance, while A Better Finder Attributes indicates displays "<none>" in both entries (which may only indicate the entries are empty), the File Properties Editor utility displays "????" and, to further confuse matters, if I use A Better Finder Attriputes "Remove creator and type" option, both of these utilities display "----" for these entries.
All I was trying to point out was the fact that you can save time by simply batch processing your iMovie files in one of these property/attribute editors rather than using either QT X or QT 7. In fact, it also saves file space since these utilities write the changed data back to the original file instead of creating a new one and then you can use the modified files in whatever apps you say do not like the "TVOD" creator code.

I have noticed the same phenomenon in safari -- i think since upgrading osx to 10.4.7.
But what I recently discovered is if I click and hold on the area where the flash content should be, it will bring up the settings menu and once I release, the flash content soon appears and it is playable.
That's what I usually have to do each time I visit a site, such as youtube or Veoh or the CW to watch the streaming broadcasts of Veronica Mars or One Tree Hill.
So, maybe you can try this hint and let me know if this works for you too.
And while we're at it a little rant is in order: Safari is truly crappy when it comes to alot of extras that should be there (such as using the built-in html editors in wordpress) or something like acid search which is really great or safari extender or taboo or cookie cutter or other built-in or add-on features that are availble for FREE in firefox & that are very valuable -- but when you try to add some of those little extras to safari (often they cost $$) Safari becomes even buggier, more unstable and slower than slow molasses. It is a less than ideal browser. Fine if you don't do much or expect much sure, then it's mediocre at best.
And like the horribly sluggish spotlight and finder (which DEvolved instead of Evolved) it needs some major improvements to be a real winner. Now, it's simply okay, unimpressive and underwhelming.
