Image appearance in Lightroom does not match exported .jpg

First time user of Lightroom, so be gentle.
I edit a RAW file in Lightroom and get it looking good, but when I export to jpg I run into a problem where the photo takes on a strong rosy hue.
This image shows the problem:
http://www.vaughnsphotoart.com/miscimg/colordifference.jpg
I took a screenshot of Lightroom, and superimposed the jpg output next to it.
I have been using RawShooter and have had no problems with the exported files matching the in-program image. I've had pretty good luck getting on-screen views to match my prints. So I'm a little baffled here at what to do. I see others are running into this as well (see http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc34927/2 ) so a response might help many.
Am I correct to guess this has something to do with the Adobe ProPhoto color space?
What steps should I take to get my in-program image appearance match the exported version? I suspect I am missing a calibration process to get my color spaces to match, but I don't know how to affect the one Lightroom uses. Can anyone give some straightforward advice on what to do here?

I had exactly the same experience as Vaughn and David. I tried to do some tests of my own:
1. Exported a RAW image from LR as JPG, sRGB color space
2. Exported the exact same image as JPG specifying Adobe RGB
3. Exported the exact same image as TIFF (8bit, LZW compression), sRGB color
4. Exported the exact same image as TFF (8bit, LZW compression), Adobe RGB color space
The resulting images can be seen in the following web album:
http://picasaweb.google.com/Chris.Diewald/TestExportsFromAdobeLightroom.
(Most web browsers still do not care about embedded color space tags, but it appears that the images on the web page do not have a color-space tag anymore ! Still, they demonstrate what I see in other software on my screen.)
5. I opened these 4 images in Photoshop CS2, working space Adobe RGB (!), but specifically using the embedded profile (in the case of of sRGB exports).
Result: All 4 images - whether jpeg or TIFF, sRGB or Adobe RGB - look identical. And they are all identical to the likeness seen in LR!
6. I opened the sRGB images (jpg and TIFF) in Photoshop, but this time without preserving the embedded sRGB profile ("discard the embedded profile, don't color-manage"):
Result: The two sRGB images show a distinctive shift towards red and are a tad brighter. This was expected in a way.
7. I opened these 4 images in Microsoft Fax and Picture Viewer:
Result: All 4 images, whether TIFF or JPG, whether sRGB was embedded or Adobe RGB, are displayed identically, but *different* from what is seen in LR - more red and a bit brighter. Just like in Photoshop when the embedded sRGB profile was ignored.
8. Out of curiosity, I opened the 4 images in Picasa 2.5 (so popular with amateurs, so nice and so blindingly fast with huge masses of images. No comment on LR here...).
Result: Whether JPG or TIFF, the sRGB image comes out as redder and brighter, the AdobeRGB image exactly as viewed in LR!
9. Last Test: I opened the 4 images in Paintshop Pro 9.01
Result: same as those reported for Picasa. sRGB is not as seen in LR!
What does that suggest? I am not a color-space expert, so I leave that to those who know. But I am worrying whether LR really does what it says when I export?

  • Image on monitor window does not match red playhead as it moves

While editing a movie, imported slides do not match the monitor view. As the red playhead moves along to the right, when a slide changes the image on the monitor remains on the previous slide. After about 15 secs the next slide appears, but briefly then it's on to the next slide.
This is annoying. I have tried everything I can think of to overcome this (eg rebooted, pulled the plists, varied length of slides, started new movie etc). Fortunately, it does not happen with imported movies from the video camera. I can overcome the problem by placing transitions between all the slides, eg use a one-frame cross-disolve, but I'd rather not have to trick it this way. Does anyone have any ideas on this please? Thanks,
    Keith

I also had the same problem. I have discovered that it is due to the upgrade of Quicktime. To reinstall an older version of Quicktime is quite tricky but I have solved the problem. There is no need to uninstall Quicktime 7.6.6. as this will be done later during the installation of the earlier software. Try this: Download a copy of Pacifist. From www.mac.oldapps.com download a copy of Quicktime 7.6.4. Open Pacifist, drag the installer box icon of QT 7.6.4 onto the Pacifist window. Click open package. When asked click "Replace" check the "all" box. This will over-ride QT 7.6.6 replacing it with 7.6.4 and your problem should be solved. Good luck! Let me know how you get on, please.

  • Folder structure in lightroom does not match structure at system level

The folder structure in lightroom as shown in the library module seems to have got confused.  Instead of having the nested structure that appears on my hard drive I have a long list of folders.  The list of folders gives the full pathway.  When I hold the cursor over the folder name in lightroom there seems to be some duplication of the pathway so they look like this on two lines:
    Parent folder\level one\level two
    Drive name:\parent folder\level one\2
Is it the number "2" that is the problem and if so how do I get rid of it?  Or there any other ideas.
    Any help gratefully received

Right-click (Windows) or Ctrl-click (Mac) on one of the folders and to open the folder context menu then choose Add Parent Folder

  • Image on monitor window does not match playhead as it moves

I am resurrecting this earlier thread because, although it received a star as "solved" it was not really solved. Since upgrading to Quicktime 7.6.6 I, too, have had similar problems, as apparently have several others.
Basically, on iMovie playback the playhead will skip through a still, so that the playback on the screen lags behind, and then will suddenly catch up by displaying the skipped still in a shortened duration as the playhead moves on. Makes it difficult to edit. Video clips are not affected. With me the issue occurred after I upgraded to Quicktime 7.6.6. Oddly, when I reverted back to the previous version, 7.6.4, the problem still persisted. I did the usual deletion of the com.apple.iMovie.plist file, and a permissions repair, but that did not help.
So, I am interested in whether anyone has solved this issue. There are workarounds, like inserting a one frame cross-dissolve and converting the stills to video by using Ken Burns with the same starting and end points. I am more interested in actually resolving the issue. Comments welcome.

  • Lightroom does not identify jpg images as duplicates

I'm using Lightroom 5.3.  I'm importing images to my catalog from one external drive to another using the "copy" function.  I have "do not import suspected duplicates" checked, but Lightroom does not identify duplicate jpg images as such and lists them as new files to import.  If I import these images they show up in my database/catalog with the -2 designation.  The images are identical in filename, capture time, size and EXIF info.  I have tried removing my preferences file and starting another but that doesn't change the behavior.  I have seen other posts with similar issues but cannot find a solution that works for me.  I don't see this listed as a bug either.  If anyone has suggestions for a fix I would appreciate it.  Thank you.

There is a catalog-specific preference whether to allow LR to adjust date/time values in raw files.  I think that is for LR to add a timezone or not.  Since these are JPGs maybe this setting doesn’t apply, but maybe the JPGs were imported from RAWs that had it set, or maybe the setting does apply to JPGs, now, too.
It would be worth checking the catalog-specific setting and playing with it to see if you can get the timezone to either exist or not existing for both the images, depending on which one has it, now.
If your current system timezone is not UTC-7, then it would make sense for LR to interpret the images without a timezone to be in the system timezone and different than the ones that have a timezone associated with them.
If the pictures were taking across multiple timezones then there probably isn’t’ a good way to get them all to have the corresponding timezone as the other copy you’re trying to import.

iBookstore Publisher Support send me a fast response email which included some helpful info:
Please make sure that all image files inside the ePub end with one of the following: ".tif", ".jpg", or ".png" and that the file itself matches the file extension type. To check if the image file matches the file extension type, please right click on the image then select "Get Info". Once the info tab appears, please make sure that the file extension type of the image file matches the "Kind" found under "General".
For further information regarding embedded images, please refer to the iBookstore Asset Guide, which is available for download in the Deliver Your Content module in iTunes Connect.
And they INCLUDED THE TRANSPORTER LOG (!), the log generated by iTunes Producer as it tries to upload a book. We were able to search for the Validation Error # within the log and find out which image Producer was trying to upload when it encountered an error. Turns out the problem was a corrupted screenshot jpeg.
    Grateful!

  • File does not exist: /export/home/oracle/orahtml/marvel/images/spacer.gif

Seeing this error in the apache log:
    File does not exist: /export/home/oracle/orahtml/marvel/images/spacer.gif
I know there are spacer.gif files under the theme folders but why is it looking for a spacer.gif file in the images folder? Is this a bug?

    Hello,
Yes I just checked it's a problem with theme 9 there are a couple of places where the theme calls #IMAGE_PREFIX#spacer.gif when it should call #IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_9/spacer.gif
There are two ways for you to fix this
    1. Copy themes/theme_9/spacer.gif to the top level images directory, I recommend this one because then if someone creates the theme from the repository again it wont' come up agian.
    2. Change all #IMAGE_PREFIX#spacer.gif to #IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_9/spacer.gif in theme 9, if you export the theme you can just us a search and replace the export to do this and then reapply the theme.
This as been bugged and will get fixed in future version.

  • Lightroom v. 3.6 and Sony A99 RAW does not match

I recently bought the newest Sony A99 camera, but it seems L.v. 3.6 does not manage this (aparently new) type of RAW-pictures.
Do I have to buy the L.v.4 or can I use v. 3.6 with changing some settings?
    Thank you

    Hello mJim,
It works. Thank you for your help.

  • Print Res Unchecked, Image does not match native resoltuion

Many of my images already have their resolution and height/width dimensions set in PS. My understanding is that when the print resolution checkbox is unchecked in LR, then the image should be at its native resolution and size and will print the same size as when printed from PS.
However, I find that when I uncheck the resolution checkbox, the image size as shown in LR Print module does not match the native resolution and size. For example a psd file in PS CS3 shows an image size of 16 x 10.25 @ 200 ppi. In LR the same image shows a print size of 15.3 x 9.81 @ 209 ppi. I have checked both tif and psd files, and similar discrepancies exist.
I wonder if I am doing something wrong or misunderstanding something? Thanks for your help

That was Page Setup, sorry (which actually opens a Print Setup dialogue, at least on a PC). There you can choose printer and paper size. Then in Layout panel you choose how to arrange the picture(s) within the page, and the combination of the two will determine the print size, right?
Anyway, I believe I understand your concern now, which is about printing at 100% of the size indicated by the TIFF or PSD file, as PS can do. I did not find a way to direct LR to do the same.
The Print Resolution, when unchecked, doesn't behave like you expect. If you check it, LR will re-sample the image to print it at the resolution you indicated there, whatever the output size. If you un-check it, LR will not re-sample the image; still it will re-size it based on your Page Setup and Layour settings, and the printer driver/printer will do the needed re-sampling. At least this is my understanding.

Lightroom does not automatically find images that have been moved within same parent folder/drive...I moved my catalog and photos to shared drive so that all users can access and when I moved photos within parent folder lightroom did not automatically adjust like in video I watched.  I had to manually locate.  Is there a fix for this?

I haven't watched that video, but if you move photos in your operating system ... Lightroom does NOT automatically find these photos. Finding photos that have been moved is NOT a feature of Lightroom. So, there is no fix for this.
You would have to tell Lightroom where the photos are now located, as explained in the link from 99jon
If you must move photos, move them inside of Lightroom, not in your operating system, or better yet — don't move them, and use Lightroom tools such as keywords and other metadata to achieve organization.

  • Windows 8 error "product key does not match any of the Windows images available for installation"

    Hi Experts
My HP Pavilion laptop came with window 8. I made the USB recovery for windows 8 using hp recovery manager. My windows was corrupted, while I was trying to install windows 7 in dual boot.
I used above USB recovery to restore factory default. But every time it is giving me error "HP Recovery Manager Failed error code = 0xefffff08"
Then I downloaded the OEM ISO mage for windows 8 and tried to do the clean install but now installation process is giving me error "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key"
Please help me. To whom I have to contact?

    Hi ghost-rider,
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to assist you.
I understand you tried to do a recovery and you received this error  "oxefffff08".
First I would suggest you run a hardware diagnostics. Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8)
If no hardware failures are located, you have ruled that possibility out.
Here is a link to Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 8) that may help.
If you are still having an issue doing a recovery, I suggest contacting HP support and explain the issue you are having with doing a recovery. They may have another option available for you.
Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region  Technical Support Sitemap
The clean install from an OEM image is looking for the product code as it does not match the one that came with the computer, You would need a new code.
    I hope this has helped.

  • The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

how do you manage to install windows 7 when the message on the screen is "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key. "

That's a really helpful answer and not smug at all, thanks Carey.
I just downloaded a DVD image from my university's MSDN Academic Alliance program, named "Microsoft
Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 Debug/Checked Build 64-bit (English)", which I wanted to use to install over an existing 32-bit version. I thought the install screen was giving this weird unskippable error described in the OP before I even entered
a key because the 32-bit key I had used on the HDD was somehow interpreted to be used in an upgrade, but no. Even after I wiped the hard drive, this error persisted.
Guess I'll go Google some more on how to install my legit copy of Windows, because this self-serving shit sure isn't helping.

  • Lightroom does not support duo toned images. Why? Incredible that it does not!

Lightroom does not support duo toned images. Why? Incredible that it does not!

Lightroom does 'split-toning', but I suspect that's not what you're after.
A duo-tone in offset print terms refers to a BW image printed with black and one additional colour. LR however works only in the RGB colour model, so you need to resort to e.g. Photoshop for duo-tone (or CMYK) conversions.
