Image Capture application keeps "losing" my device

Image Capture was telling me that there wasn't a scanner or camera connected. I use an HP Photosmart C4680. The printer aspect has been fine since upgrading to SL. I inserted my SL disk. Opened Optional Installs. Went through the prompts etc. and selected to install the Printer Support. Ejected the disk. Restarted computer. Opened Image Capture and device was listed on left side margin and test worked perfectly.
The problem now is that every 12-24 hours the device disappears again from Image Capture.
Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas how to permanently correct it?

Similar problem with Lexmark X4550.
Printing fine whether or not Image capture recognises the scanner.
Open image capture no scanner listed (ipod and phone are listed).
Unplug USB and pug in - scanner appears and works (there is a bug where the rotation correction is not supported and the scan fails)
Quit image capture and re-launch image Image capture scanner is "lost" (ipod and phone appear as before). Unplug and plug in USB cable and scanner re-appears.
Anyone have any suggestions as how I can make Image capture "remember" I have a scanner attached.
I'm using the bundled Lexmark driver with SL.
Cheers
Ben

  • Image Capture does not have a 'Devices' option

I have a new scanner and I installed the drivers. It's showing fine in Photoshop CS3 but the window for it is awkward and small and barely has any features to it (there is no selection to for Advanced either). I figured I should try to use Image Capture instead, hoping to have better luck and more features. However Image Capture is not allowing me to go to 'Devices > Browse Devices' because there is no 'Devices' menu listed at all. I've restarted, unplugged things, plugged devices back in. It just says 'No Camera or Scanner Selected' ... the Command B is not even working either.
Has anyone ever had this happen, should I try reinstalling Image Capture?

As for the scanner - so is this new one wireless? When I hooked up my Epson All-in-One, I had to install it via USB first before I could install the wireless (per their instructions).  With Snow Leopard, I simply installed the driver and it covered and recognized both the print and scan function - not so in Lion; I had to go through hoops with the scanner part and it finally showed up as a separate unit. I thought that is silly, but - as long as it works.....  I'm trying to think of possibilities since I'm about out of ideas, so you might want to consider that (if it applies). The other troubleshooting suggestions usually include redoing the "add" function after a reboot.
As for Image Capture, I am out of ideas. FWIW, I never use it - in my workflow, there is no need for it. Not sure if this would have an impact, but make sure that you choose Image Capture in the CDs&DVDs Preference Pane (mine is set to ignore or ask purposely):
If that does not work, I'd suggest reinstalling the OS over the top of what you have.

  • Disable Image Capture Application COMPLETELY

Title says it all. I want to 100% disable Image Capture. I don't want to have it open under any circumstances. Yes, I know that you can disable it per device, but that pref never seems to stick on my personal machine.
For this workstation in particular, we have many different cards, phones, iPads, cameras, things of that nature being plugged into it (it's kind of a "dump your pictures to this workstation" kind of computer). I just don't want Image Capture from ever opening, ever, no matter what I plug into it the computer.
How is that accomplished? Plist file, some sort of terminal command, hidden preference files, something like that perhaps?

Delete it from that machine. That's the only way I know. When you want to restore it, copy it from another machine running the same OS version.

  • Podcast application keeps "losing" my podcast's

The only reason I didnt buy an Android phone was the seamless integration of my music and podcast's.  Now that the fabulous podcast app keeps "losing" all my podcasts I am really upset and do not plan to replace my iPhone 5 with another iPhone.  Anyone else having problems?

It continues to happen.  The podcast app is randomly unsubscribing me from podcast's.  Wierd, Rogen hasn't put out a new podcast in like a week.  Must be the holidays.  Nope.  Apple Podcast just decided were not subscribed anymore.  And to six other podcasts.  And when I resubscribe, it downloads the last 5 podcasts from each provider. When I leave for a long commute today almost all newer podcasts give me the error "This podcast is currently unavailable from X podcasters website" even though it was downloaded earlier in the day and I listened to a portion of it.

  • Machine imaged with FOG keeps losing trust relationship and reverting name

A Dell Optiplex 980 workstation (Win7 Pro x64) that I imaged with FOG has lost its trust relationship to the domain and reverted its hostname back to what it was originally (when imaged). It has done this twice in the past few days.
I can disjoin/rejoin the domain and rename the PC with the local admin account (done this twice now also), but what could be causing the name to revert? I have never seen this before. I'm fairly sure that losing the TR is only caused because of the name change. Could this be a setting in FOG causing this? I have FOG set to *not* join the machine to the domain after image task, I do it manually. Maybe I should be having FOG do it? Thanks....

You need to make sure that your reference machines are sysprepped before proceeding to the deployment.
Also, you need to make sure that your AD replication and DC health status are fine. You can achieve that using
dcdiag and repadmin commands. You can also refer to my article here: http://www.ahmedmalek.com/web/fr/articles.asp?artid=23
The issue can also be caused by security software you are running on your machines.

  • Canon PIXMA 860 and 560 not recognized by Image Capture

I can scan from the printers to my MacBook. And I go to System Prefernces / Printers and Faxes and both are shown as printers and as scanners. I can open from their and scan but when I open image capture it doesn't find any scanners.
I down loaded and installed both the newest canon printer and scanner drivers as well as the newest ICA driver. Still they are not recognized.
    What am I missing?

Just for testing purposes, I removed the canon printer, removed all canon software and updates from my system and then used the original CD that came with my 870 to reinstall the printer and lo and behold, Image Capture started working again for wireless scanning.
Hello and thanks for the feedback.
There are two scanner drivers available for many of the new models of Canon AIOs. There is the ICA driver and the Canon scanner driver.
During my tests on clean builds of 10.6.x I found that my Canon AIOs were able to print and scan via wireless by simply installing the Canon update provided by Apple. This update consisted of the then latest printer driver for many models of Canon AIO and inkjet and the ICA driver. Canon's scanner driver was not included as part of this download from Apple.
The ICA driver is installed in HD > Library > Image Capture > Devices and the package is called Canon IJScanner1. Later versions of the ICA driver also installed another package, Canon IJScanner2. These ICA drivers provide a minimal amount of scanning selections and only appear to work with Image Capture and Preview. Other applications like Canon's own MP Navigator and Adobe Acrobat Pro will not scan with just the ICA driver installed. The Canon scanner driver for the respective model is required.
From what you have said and from my own testing I propose that the original CD did not contain the ICA driver but the Canon scanner driver for the MX870. And with only this driver installed you were able to scan using Image Capture via the wireless. I don't recall ever testing a 10.6 build where only the Canon scanner driver was installed and not the ICA driver (it is present by default on 10.6 but only has older models of Canon AIO's - your MX870 is not there). Had I tested this I believe that I would have been able to scan via wireless using Image Capture.
I also propose that once you installed the Canon v2.4.1 update, which contains a version of the ICA driver package that is also available from Canon web sites, then Image Capture stopped using the Canon MX870 scanner driver and used the ICA driver instead, thus stopping you from wireless scanning.
Right now I am using a new build of 10.6.6 on my MBPro. So that I could print to my MP990 at home and an MG6150 at work I simply installed the v2.4.1 update and have printer and scanner queues in Print & Fax for both. I have not installed scanner drivers for either device and at home with my MP990 Image Capture does not show any device being available, while Preview does show the MP990 once I select 'Import from Scanner > Include Networked Devices'. Also, Acrobat Pro 9 does not show my MP990 being available.
And with regards to the v2.4.1 update, the drivers included are provided by Canon to Apple, just as the other vendor drivers are provided to Apple, to make life easier for us Mac users. The drivers are available individually and get downloaded and installed automatically when the respective model is connected to the Mac and no local driver is present. As for the package including all these individual vendor drivers, this would be created by Apple.

  • Image Capture, upon opening, always reads "No camera or scanner selected" (and the scanner doesn't scan.  Why?).

"Image Capture" application, upon opening, always reads "No camera or scanner selected."  Scanner does not scan (HP C4680, All-in-one type).  Mine is a Mac OS X (Snow Leopard 10.6.7).  All connections seem fine.  What's wrong?  Am decidedly NOT a "techie" and this is first computer ever owned by enquirer. Thank you.

    Some additional thoughts.
Does the Preferences have the option to open the Scanner window ticked ?
Does the Scanner appear in the Browse Menu when you Browse for Devices ?
My Epson CX6400 which is of some age now does not show Scanner Ablities in th System Profiler for OS X 10.5.8
The Printer part uses the OS X installed Cups + Gutenprint driver.
I have also installed the Epson stuff that came on the CD which I am sure installed a Twain Driver for the scanner part.
It seems this is what the Browse info tells me is being used.
In Hard Drive/Library/Image Capture/Devices the Epson Scanner.app has been added.
In the same Image Capture folder a Twain Data Source folder is also present and the Scanner .ds file is in there.

  • IMAGE CAPTURE - I Can't Find it anywhere on my Mac

    Hi Apple Discussions...
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on my macbook pro and for the life of me, I can not find the Image Capture application. I might have accidentally deleted it with App Zapper... is there somewhere I can download load it?
Please, please help as i need it to scan from my HP PSC 2410 as the HP Scan Pro is not compatible with Snow Leopard
    Regards
    hobocrush

Also note that at the moment the PSC 2410 is not supported for Scanning. It is currently listed as Print only support for Snow Leopard. That being said, we are wrapping up testing on In-OS scan drivers for the PSC 2410 (as well as many other additional devices) and assuming testing doesn't uncover any problems, and also assuming everything else goes well, you should be scanning again by the end of the month. Of course that doesn't help today.
For today (and I really can't recommend doing this because of all the old software that gets installed that my screw really screw things up) you could install the 10.4 solution for your device and run it under Rosetta. Of course I do recommend against it, and it is way unsupported, but some people have reported it working.
    Just trying to help.

  • Problem:Image capture with Nokia 6020

    Hi,
i want an idea about the issue of "Image Capture" from midlet.
I tried my image capture application with SonyEricsson W550 it is working fine, and
I tried the same appliaction with[b] i-mate SP3(Windows CE mobile)and with Nokia 6020 ("Both are MIDp2.0 support "), the application not even loaded and the exception as javax.microedition.media.MediaException
one more thing the value of System.getProperty("video.snapshot.encodings"); become null.
Please tell me what are all the mobiles will support the ImageCapture from Midlet.
    some exact (supporting)mobile models please...
    Thankyou,

    Hi,
The sun article says 3650 will support the MMApi options even its MIDP 1.0, then what about MIDP 2.0 devices(6020).
Somebody said even some devices may MIDP2.0, but it may not be the complete implementation device.
What is mean that .... like either supporting only audio ???

  • Image Capture and Samsung All-in-One SCX4825FN Preview Delay

I am trying to scan using a Samsung SCX4825FN all-in-one printer, scanner and fax machine. It is installed using an ethernet cable via my internal network. Two Macs see and scan with it without a problem. The third used to, but since I tried installing Samsung's own scan software (just to see if there were any OCR capability in it, which there wasn't), each time I try to open up the flatbed scanning, it takes hours (literally) to do the preview scan, and in the meantime, the computer is almost unusable. The printer (scanner) appears to correctly do the preview scan, then do a more detailed scan (at very high resolution?), which takes it ages, and it uses this to build the preview scan.
Other computers haven't changed, so I assume it is the since Mac that needs fixing. It also doesn't happen with the multi-sheet feeder scan on any of the computers, so it is only the flat-bed scan that causes the problem.
I have tried fixing permissions, removing the Samsung software completely (I then couldn't see the scanner at all) then reinstalling the minimal amount, deleting permissions for Image Capture and for the Samsung Scanning software, changing preferences within the Samsung software, but all to no avail. It still takes a couple of hours to complete the initial preview scan on the one computer but not the others. Has anyone got any other ideas?
I would like to delete the Samsung software off the problem Mac and then copy over the required drivers from another computer to let it scan without a problem using the standard Snow Leopard install, but I am not sure which files to copy over. I am worried that the (not very good) Samsung installation software is taking off more files than it is supposed to when I remove it, but I am not sure what it is supposed to leave on there, or perhaps it is leaving too much on there.
The nice installation software from Samsung forces a restart each time you try and do anything, as well as insisting that no other software is running while it is trying to make changes, so I am already a little unhappy about what kind of changes it is trying to make since most Apple software is not that crazy...

Interestingly here is what I received from Brother. (Note that scanning using the Control Center works fine.):
    Dear Brother Customer,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us.
Is your machine able to scan using the Brother ControlCenter software?
If you are able to scan with the ControlCenter, the drivers are
    installed and working properly.
Your issue is with Apple's Image Capture software and should be referred
    to them for support.
When you open the Apple software, you will need to click DEVICES in the
Menu Bar, then select the disclosure triangle next to TWAIN devices to
    reveal the Brother TWAIN device.
Select the Brother TWAIN and click OK.
You should now be able to scan with Apple's Image Capture application.
For any additional assistance with the Apple application, we suggest you
    contact Apple for assistance.

  • Issue with Image Capture with Lion

I have a Lion.   My camera is a Nikon D700
    I have Lightroom 3 and Lightroom 4
Recently downloaded Lightroom 4.1 connected my memory card reader to upload photos .  Lightroom 3 opens and not Lightroom 4  to import the photos.
Checked Image capture application  to change preferences - there is no preferences in image capture (Lion)  My scanner is the only device that is shown.
Please advise how I change for image capture to  open the correct Lightroom version.
    thank you

    Hi Frank
I have a Lexar card reader - being using it for years no problem -
I have again gone into image capture have notice the camera import process.  I never had previously hat to worry about Image capture as my photo import ran smoothly with Lightroom 3 opening up automatically.
In Image capture there are options to where the photos need to be imported to.  Only iPhoto option provided no Lightroom - Under "other" I typed in Lightroom 4.
However, the import process began without Lightroom 4 opening and the photos started to be imported in to the pictures folder ( this I do not want to happen) as I want Lightroom 4 to open .
However, there is no option to change  from pictures folder - there is no option for Lightroom 4 , were it says "other: can I change to Lightroom 4?
As Lightroom option is not given , I chose "other" and inserted Lightroom 4 .  When attaching  my card reader , Lightroom 4 did not open to import only the pictures folder.  Please confirm that I need to change to import to Lightroom 4 instead of the pictures folder.  _
If this is so must I change the option from other to Lightroom 4 , even though I have already indicated " connecting this camera to.......  see attachment.
Also I see there is an option to tick " delete after import"  must this be checked?
    See attachment
I have not attached the screen shot as in the reply window there is no option to do this

  • Mustek Scanner - TWAIN - Image Capture

    I have a new +Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB 1200dpi Pro+ Scanner.
I used to be able to use the Import menu in Photoshop CS4 to access this scanner via the TWAIN interface.
However, +PhotoShop CS4+ includes a ReadMe which says that using TWAIN is not recommended. Since updating to 10.5.7, the TWAIN option no longer appears in the PhotoShop Import Menu. It did appear in +PS CS4+ under 10.5.6.
Okay, never mind; import scans in another application.
The obvious thing is to check +Image Capture.+
Unfortunately, +Image Capture+ says there is no device connected, & searching doesn't reveal one, despite scanner driver re-installs & restarts. (Please don't mention the Mustek website. See for yourself if you're curious!)
Checked the +USB Device Tree;+ it says there is a USB2.0 Scanner on the USB High-Speed Bus. It thinks it is a Hewlett-Packard, which could conceivably be quite correct.
So the scanner is connected, but neither Image Capture nor PhotoShop can see it…
    Any suggestions?

You useless lot — we wouldn't leave a simple question such as this unanswered for five whole days over in the Logic Forums!
There were lots of possible workarounds, including SANE (which is just +so easy+ to install correctly — not!) & various 3rd-party scanning applications.
The applications couldn't find a scanner; so much for their built-in libraries.
In the end, I found my own constant advice to others was the best:
+"Visit the manufacturer's website to see if there are any known issues or bug reports, & if appropriate, download the latest version that is definitely compatible with your setup."+
True, I asked not to be told to visit their site, but this is a typical poster's 'trick question'… which is to say, don't take anything the OP says at face value! (It wasn't a deliberate trick, of course; the site has been re-vamped now, & works much better than it did.)
So — someone could have picked up a nice green star for practically no trouble if they'd just told me to pull my socks up.
But — *no stars for you!*
Anyway, for anyone reading this post & wondering what happened, the new downloaded driver enabled +Image Capture+ to see the Scanner via the TWAIN interface. And they all lived happily ever after (until the next upgrade, of course).

  • Image Capture and Brother all in one printer...help!

    Hello,
I have a Brother all-in-one printer MFC-420CN. I just upgraded from a PC to a Mac. Almost everything works perfectly...I can print (wirelessly or not), send faxes, and scan using Brother's own Control Center utility. However, I wanted to use the printer also with Image Capture. I downloaded the scanner driver from the Brother site, however when I start image capture I get the message "No Image Capture device connected". If I go to Devices => Browse Devices, I can actually see the printer driver shown as TWAIN Data Sources/Brother Twain, however it doesn't show as being connected. If I click on the "Use Twain UI" button, it brings up a Brother Twain window, but if I click Scan nothing happens. Does anyone know why the mac can see the driver but thinks it's disconnected? Also, under "kind" there's a swirly icon, but I don't know what it means (sorry, Apple newbie).
    Thanks!

  • Image Capture + Built-in Isight

This is probably a newbie question (the last time I used a mac was 12 year ago. my "Performer" is collecting dust in my basement).
Just received my MacBook Air, but I can't seem to get Image Capture to work with the built-in camera.
The camera (hardware) is working since I am able to use it with iMovie; however, when I launch Image Capture, it keep telling me that "No Image Capture Device Connected". Nothing shows up under "Browse Device". So, is Image Capture suppose to work with the Built-in Isight camera?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, balutan
You are trying to use Image Capture for other than the function it provides. Image Capture is used to control your Mac's default treatment of external imaging devices such as digital cameras and scanners.
For more info, search your Mac's Image Capture > Help for "Using Image Capture instead of iPhoto" (without the quotation marks.)
You can use Photo Booth, iChat AV or other Snapshot Apps to capture images with your MBA's built-in iSight. Alternatively, you can export single frames from iMovie (or other video/movie clip apps) iSight video clip captures.
