Image capture broken with LiDE 25

We just received out new 27" i7 iMac. I am having problems getting it to play nice with a CanoScan LiDE 25 USB scanner. This is a cheap scanner, but my wife uses it constantly with Evernote.
Canon has a 10.6 compatible driver on their website which I have installed.
Image capture can see the LiDE 25, but the scans are ignoring the dpi and size settings in image capture, all the scans are extremely small and low resolution totally unusable.
The driver is fine as the scanner works great with the demo version of Vuescan, but I really don't want to spend $40 on scanning software when it should work in image scan, also it breaks my wife's work flow of scanning directly in to Evernote or Photoshop from Image Capture.
How can I make Image Capture work correctly? I can't find any settings or preferences for it.

Thank you for the response, knowing you have it working under 10.6 really helps.
I have been doing some more testing this morning.
It is responding to size and dpi settings, only it is not scanning to those settings. It is scanning to 1/4 size of the requested size in the settings:
For example:
I ask for a 150dpi 8 inch x 8 inch scan... I get a 150 dpi 2" x 2" scan.
I ask for a 300 dpi 10 inch x 10 inch scan... I get a 300 dpi 2.5" x 2.5" scan.
The solution is to scan at 4x the dpi you require, then alter the image size in photoshop without resampling. This is of course a work-round, but we can proceed now until an official fix comes from Apple.
I'm pretty sure the error is in Image Capture, as 3rd part software (Vuescan demo) works just fine and as expected. I'm not going to buy a $40 piece of scanning software to run a $40 scanner!

  • Image Capture Problems with Snow Leopard

Somewhere along the line I seem to have upgraded my version of image capture. I've recently installed snow leopard and any software updates that have followed. I tried to use image capture for the first time yesterday, and after struggling to get it to work (unsuccessfully) I decided I preferred the previous version and went ahead and restored it from my time machine drive in place of the new version.
I soon realised that this wouldn't work with the updated OS, and upon trying to restore the newer version of IC realised that I didn't have a copy of it on my time machine drive. I know this is a rookie error!
Can anyone tell me where the new version of IC has come in, and if I can download it as part of a software update etc? I've tried reinstalling parts of Snow Leopard from disc hoping it would be in there, but so far I've had no success.
    Thanks in advance.

Having the same issue since 10.6.4; none of my 3 scanners work: canon LIDE 60, Epson CX5000 or HP 4215.
The Epson gets the furthest with a partially garbled 'overview' scan which never completes... the others never even start scanning although Image Capture says it is making an overview.
I have already installed the updated Epson driver, but not the others... will go hunting, but this really *****. Need to scan and distribute 3 1-page documents and it has so far taken me 3 hours.

  • Image Capture Broken?

(I originally posted this in the Mountain Lion forum, but am now resposting here at the behest of a fellow commenter):
About 90% of the time when I plug in my iPhone or iPad, they are not detected by Image Capture (or iPhoto). The other 10% of the time it is recognized correctly. Also note that my iPhone and iPad are always correctly recognized by iTunes 100% of the time, so there is no problem with my cable or my Macbook Pro itself detecting the iPhone/iPad; the problem is specific to Image Capture and iPhoto.
This bug was present in Snow Leopard and apparently still hasn't been fixed in Mountain Lion.
Any workarounds? How do I get my iPhone and iPad to show up in Image Capture?
    Thank you.

I've not seen this issue on either 10.6, 10.7 or now 10.8.
    Some thoughts:
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account. Does it work there?
In your main account: Try boot into Safe Mode and see.
    Any messages in the Console?

  • Neither MP Navigator Ex nor Image Capture work with OS 10.7.3. Why?

I just bought a new Mac Book Pro, and can't get MP Navigator Ex or Image Capture to work.
I have a Canon Pixma MX 340, so I downloaded the 3.1 MP Navigator verions that was reccomended to replace the MP Navigator that was on my computer also 3.1).  The download page said that the version I was downloading was specifically for Canon MX 340 with os 10.7/ but when I try to open the application the notice comes up saying it can't be started (even though my printer is one of the printers on the list that 3.1 should work with).
As for Image Capture, it tells me it can't detect my printer/scanner.  I am connected with a USB cable .  I have no trouble printing files with my new macbook pro, and the scanner part of the printer still works with well with my old macbook.  So I know that the scanner is still funtional.
So between the two, I have no way of scanning with my new macbook pro.  Can anyone offer any solutions?
    Thanks
    Clayton

With Image Capture not seeing the MX340 when connected to the Mac via USB cable then in many cases the cause would be the USB cable. If this same USB cable is the one you use with the old Macbook, then it would rule out the cable. And with you being able to print via USB from the new MacBook Pro, this would also rule out the USB cable. But for the cost of a new USB printer cable, it would still be worth getting one just to be sure.
As for MP Navigator, this uses a different scanner driver to that used by Image Capture. So the first thing to ensure is that you have the full scanner driver installed. With the full scanner driver installed, this should allow you to open MP Navigator and commence scanning.

  • When will Image Capture work with my Nikon D90?

    Hi,
I'm just interesting in seeing some concrete info on when Image Capture will work with my Nikon D90 camera. Lightroom 3 is having problems, but that's probably because the image capture firmware is not working in OSX Lion yet.
    Regards,

Image Capture in LIon is version 6.1 which is an update from the 6.0 in Snow Leopard. Contact the vendors and see when they will have updates compatible to Lion.

  • Why doesn't Image Capture work with document feeders?

I've tried to scan a bunch of different types of documents using Image Capture and my Samsung CLX-3175FW's document feeder (multifunction color laser printer) but every time what gets scanned is a thin vertical slice of each page - completely useless. I don't see any way to force Image Capture to scan at 8.5" x 11" rather than doing whatever it's doing resulting in a thin vertical slice.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Quick update... I've done some troubleshooting and confirmed that when Image Capture scanning via USB and using the document feeder, everything looks great. When the ONLY option I change is printing via wireless, I get the thin vertical slice of each page. I sent some screenshots to Samsung to see if they have any ideas.

  • Image Capture not working with Canon LiDE 500F

Image Capture version 6.0.424 and CanoScan LiDE 500F 11.2.5.0 does not work properly.
Regardless the resolution, the resulted file has a very small size.
As a test I scanned a 9x20cm document at different resolutions and for all resulted files 'Get Info' reported small dimensions: 69x147 pixels. It is interesting that the size of the file varies with resolution, but when opened in Preview or Acrobat Reader, the small size is used.
As for other reports, CanoScan Toolbox works properly.
    Regards,
    Liviu

    Hello Liviu,
There has been a couple of posts regarding the same issue with Image Capture. Have a look at this one for example.
    http://discussions.apple.com/watches!add.jspa?forumID=1344&threadID=2272250
As I stated in this thread, I do not have this problem with Image Capture and my LiDE 200 or my MP980 AIO. So there must be something with the drivers used by these older model of Canon scanners when using Image Capture.
I haven't seen anyone provide a solution as yet so you may need to escalate this to Canon if you have a need to use Image Capture.

  • Extremely nasty Image Capture bug deletes video with import to Aperture

Image Capture allows one to specify Aperture as a target.
Nice feature, but Aperture can't handle video.
So what happens when the images you choose to import contain a video, and you've set IC to delete after import?
The videos are deleted, but not imported. If you were to import directly to Aperture they would be saved to the desktop by Aperture, but with this route they are deleted.
    Lethal bug.

    The moral of the story:
Never let your computer delete data before you know that the transfer has worked. Ever.
Don't let Image Capture, Aperture (oh, and btw, Aperture 3 does support video) or iPhoto delete pics. Ever.
After you have transferred the material to your Mac you can simply reformat the card with your camera - once you've verified the transfer. Reformatting the card with your camera is much faster - takes seconds - and has the added advantage of refreshing the directory structure on the card and so helping to avoid problems in the future.
And finally, given that both iPhoto and Aperture can import directly from your camera, why are you using Image Capture?
    Regards
    TD
After losing some images on my first attempts with iPhoto I quit using it. The whole program made no sense to me. I've been transferring images to the desktop with Image Capture, editing with Gimp, and storing in an image folder. I was hoping to give iPhoto another try and lost a couple of images... now trying to figure out where these things go. I'll try to import directly from the camera now that you've made me aware of the possibility. Any idea about this cache in the meantime? Maybe I'll find all the images I lost.

  • Can I scan documents with Image Capture?

I can no longer scan documents with my HP printer now that I have Maverick.  I can scan pics with Image Capture.  Is there any way to scan documents with image capture or with some other software?

Don't feel bad you are not alone.  I have a HP photosmart C4780.  Since upgrading to Mavericks it has been difficult to use the scan feature except via image scan.  I spent well over a month on the HP forums trying to discern whether or not new drivers were being developed and essentially got the run around.  Very crappy service from HP.  I'll not purchase one of their products again.  It appears that my all in one (which I brought through the Apple Store) is obsolete.  Anyone got any advice.  I'm contemplating seeing how many pieces it will shatter into upon being launched from my window.

  • Problem:Image capture with Nokia 6020

    Hi,
i want an idea about the issue of "Image Capture" from midlet.
I tried my image capture application with SonyEricsson W550 it is working fine, and
I tried the same appliaction with[b] i-mate SP3(Windows CE mobile)and with Nokia 6020 ("Both are MIDp2.0 support "), the application not even loaded and the exception as javax.microedition.media.MediaException
one more thing the value of System.getProperty("video.snapshot.encodings"); become null.
Please tell me what are all the mobiles will support the ImageCapture from Midlet.
    some exact (supporting)mobile models please...
    Thankyou,

    Hi,
The sun article says 3650 will support the MMApi options even its MIDP 1.0, then what about MIDP 2.0 devices(6020).
Somebody said even some devices may MIDP2.0, but it may not be the complete implementation device.
What is mean that .... like either supporting only audio ???

  • Image Capture not working with 10.6.6

I use a Canon MP780 printer/scanner with my Macs. I have no printing problems. However, when I upgraded to Snow Leopard the Canon MP Navigator scanning software stopped working and Canon's downloaded driver update didn't resolve the problem. Despite conversations with a helpful Canon engineer they seemed unable to offer a solution. However, I started using Image Capture as a satisfactory solution and this has worked fine until I upgraded to 10.6.6. Now this has stopped working too - I just get the message 'No camera or scanner selected'. I tried installing the recent Apple Canon download (Dec 14th 2010) but it hasn't resolved the problem. I see that the MP780 scan function does not seem to be supported by Apple on a list they publish on the site, however.
I can still scan by using the printer dialogue box but it is very long-winded and not very satisfactory. Is there any hope of me being able to use Image Capture again with my scanner?

The MP Navigator application requires the [Canon MP780 scanner driver|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900205301.html] to be installed. The Canon driver update from Apple does not include this full scanner driver, only a mini driver that lets you use the scanner via Image Capture/Preview.

The mini driver mentioned above is known as an ICA driver. Canon provides this package to Apple for software download and also has it for various models on their web site. Checking the Canon Australia web site, the MP780 does not list the ICA driver. And checking the Canon IJSCanner1 package located in Library > Image Capture > Devices, which is where this information gets copied to, the MP780 is not in the devices list. So this confirms what Apple has listed on the web but makes no sense how you were able to scan on 10.6.5 or how you are still scanning now via the Print & Fax section, which uses the ICA driver. I would not think that the .6 update would remove the MP780 from the device plist. I need to check a previous build when I get back to the office.
But in the meantime if you can still use the MP780 in Print & Fax then this is the same as what you get in Image Capture. If you click the Show Details tab in the scanner preview window then this may be what you were used to with Image Capture.
And I believe that if you install the full scanner driver then you will be able to use [MP Navigator v2.0.8|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900182001.html].

  • Image Capture and Preview "folder not writable" error importing to shared folder

I'm running 10.8.5 on a Late 2012 model Mac Mini. I'm trying to create a folder under my home directory where my wife can import pictures using Image Capture or Preview while logged into her account. I've tried setting permissions on the folder by setting POSIX permissions and ACLs from the command line, and also by setting ACLs using Get Info in Finder, but it seems as though both Image Capture and Preview ignore the ACLs and instead rely solely on the POSIX permissions for everyone/other (even when a relevant group is set). Unless the POSIX permissions for everyone/other are "rwx" Image Capture and Preview both give an error that the import failed, and /var/log/system.log shows errors that the "folder is not writable". I'd like to be able to set this up without making the folder and the files in it writable by everyone. My understanding was that ACLs should take precedence over POSIX permissions, but even the POSIX permissions don't seem to be getting handled properly, because the group is ignored. Any help or explanation of what's happening would be appreciated.
    Here's an example with details:
Suppose we have the users alice and bob. We want to set permissions on the directory /Users/bob/importdir such that Alice can import files from a camera there using Image Capture (or Preview, either would do), but don't want to relax the permissions more than necessary.
We create a group named bob_and_alice
We set the following permissions on /Users/bob:
    POSIX: rwxr-xr-x, owner=bob, group=staff (i.e. default POSIX permissions)
    ACLs:
    0: group:everyone deny delete
    1: group:bob_and_alice allow list,search,readattr,readextattr,readsecurity
    2: user:alice allow list,search,readattr,readextattr,readsecurity
"Get Info" shows "Read & Write" for bob and "Read Only" for alice, bob_and_alice, staff, and everyone
We set the following permissions on /Users/bob/importdir:
    POSIX: rwxrwxr-x owner=bob, group=bob_and_alice
ACLS: (these are already probably more permissive than should be necessary)
    0: group:bob_and_alice allow list,add_file,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,re adextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit
    1: user:alice allow list,add_file,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,re adextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit
"Get Info" shows "Custom" for both alice and bob_and_alice, "Read & Write" for bob, and "Read Only" for everyone
Alice opens a Terminal and cd's to /Users/bob/importdir. Alice can create and delete files in this directory.
Now Alice opens Image Capture and with our camera connected we try to import a photo to /Users/bob/importdir. Image Capture shows an error dialog with the text "Import error. An error occurred while importing. The item 'foo.jpg' was not imported." /var/log/system.log shows the message: "Jul 20 22:12:34 computer_name.local Image Capture[32804]: Document destination folder is not writable" If instead Alice uses Preview it shows an error dialog with the text "The selected folder is not writable" and /var/log/system.log shows two error messages:
Jul 20 22:23:45 computer_name.local Preview[33280]: Document destination folder is not writable
    Jul 20 22:23:45 computer_name.local Preview[33280]: Encountered error during image import: Error Domain=com.apple.ImageCaptureCore Code=-9934 "The selected folder is not writable" UserInfo=0x7ffda4881f00 {NSLocalizedDescription=The selected folder is not writable}
Now we change the POSIX permissions on /Users/bob/importdir to: rwxrwxrwx
The import succeeds with both Image Capture and Preview
Can anyone explain what's going on here? Is there another reasonable way to do this without, moving this shared directory to /Users/shared?

Did you figure out how to fix this?

  • Macbook pro doesn't recognize camera on image capture

My MacBook Pro doesn't recognize the built-in camera for a lot of my applications, including Image Capture. It doesn't show up anywhere in my system preferences. Any idea why this is so?

    (1)  Mac's built-in camera does not work with Image Capture.
Image Capture works with external devices like scanners, some iOS devices, some cameras and RAM cards, etc.  Click this link for more info about Image capture and some of the apps that can work with your inbuilt camera.
Click here for info about how to use Image Capture to transfer images from a connected external camera.
For more info about Image Capture functions, see Image Capture > Help on your Mac or the Apple pages in this link.
    (2) To test for application-specific problems mentioned in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight " article, use apps like Photo Booth, QuickTime Player, iChat, FaceTime, or others intended to work with your Mac's inbuilt camera.
    (3) To test for user-specific problems mentioned in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 the "How to Troubleshoot iSight " article, you must have more than one user account.  Do NOT use the "Guest" account.  Click this link if you need help creating new accounts for testing.

  • Image Capture app not working since migrating to Lion.

Image Capture app isn't working so well since migrating to 10.7 Lion. Now when I try to scan, Image Capture hangs with a "Crop and Rotate" message. It doesn't import into iPhoto. Anyone else run into this type of problem?

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
