Image capture doesn't recognize iphone

OS X 10.7.4, iphoto 11, iphone 4, ios 5.xx
-I have photos on iphone that are not in photo stream, and videos as well, that I want to download
-image capture does not recognize the iphone as a device when I launch it. It does not autostart even though I set the IMAGECAPTURE option in iPhoto preferences
-itunes does see the phone
-iphoto does not see the phone and does not have the missing images - I cannot manually import anything from any device
-Activity monitor shows a new copy of ptpcamera each time I plug in the iPhone to the USB cable
-restarting iPhone/iTUnes/iPhoto/Mac have no effect
Something changed with the latest iPhoto/iTunes combination

Found the resolution in another thread. Have to go to iPhoto preferences and set Image Capture to open when a camera is plugged in. Then it should auto start.

Image Capture doesn't recognize my iPhone or my Fujifilm camera. I am pretty sure this happened after updating to Safari 4.0.2 and having to restart which I did today. Yesterday I was able to to browse through my devices.

I'm adding that iTunes has no problem reading the iPhone.

    Thanks.

I am having the identical error. I have an iPhone 4 and 2 macs, the phone is managed from an old G5 PowerMac and images are saved from it to Aperture for photos and videos go to iPhoto 11. The Mac is running 10.5.8. I last appear to have downloaded movies from iPhone4 to mac in December , the oldest video being 10 Dec 2010.
This week I was going to back up a handful of images on the phone but after connecting it to the mac, something that happens several times a week to sync to itunes for app updates etc I found it did not list for import options in iPhoto nor in Aperture. I looked at Image Capture and that tells me no device is connected.
I have no problems taking images off the phone using a MBP which has 10.6 and Image Capture recognises the phone.
I have tried the following after reading through all the discussions on the topic of which there appear to be many with this problem.
Restore the iphone then update settings from archive. - did nothing
Closed apps reconnected iPhone started apps...  - did nothing
Switched phone off then on then connected to mac then opened apps - nothing
This Mac seems happy to communicate t othe phone though iTunes but appears to have lost the way when it comes to getting images off the iPhone. Any help keenly appreciated.

It's generally recommended not to use a USB hub with the iPhone. I've used one with no problems but many have reported solving sync problems just by eliminating the hub and plugging directly into a USB2.0 port.
    I'm sure.
The trouble is that there are too many bits of hardware that are recommended not to use a hub with. I have a PhoneValet (which won't work at all with a hub) and a set of first generation Harman-Kardon speakers (ditto). Then I need a USB port to plug the hub itself into, and that's my three USB ports used up.

  • Image Capture doesn't recognize SD card

In Tiger I would pop in my SD card into a reader in my pcmcia slot and image capture would read it as a device and I could then use it to embed color profiles etc. as it downloaded to the correct folder.
Leopard's Image Capture won't recognize the card as a device. It will mount and I can pull from it like a flash drive in the finder window, but I would love to use Image Capture again.
    Anybody know what happened?

I have filed a bug report with Apple.
I spoke on the phone with an Apple Developer Connection representative and have communicated with Apple via e-mail on a couple occasions now about this issue. They have had me follow some troubleshooting procedures and send them the results.
The bug report is still considered open, so they must be working on fixing the problem. Otherwise I would think they would have close the bug report by now. Maybe we'll see a fix in 10.5.2?
Also, I noticed the following interesting phenomenon: I made a disk image of my SD card and then ejected SD card. Upon mounting the disk image of the SD card, iPhoto launched, just as it used to under Mac OS X Tiger when I inserted my SD card. Intriguing!

  • Image Capture doesn't recognize my Built-in iSight Camera

I'm trying to use Image Capture but when I open the application is shows the following message:
    "No scanner or camera connected".
It's supposed the camera is connected because I'm also using Skype video call (not at the same time I'm trying to use Image Capture) and there's no problem with it.
Image Capture was working perfectly couple months ago, now it isn't.
Does somebody know what the problem might be?
Thanks for your comments and opinions.
    Sebastian.

image capture doesn't use the isight, it's for other digital cameras & scanners. use the screen capture ability. hold, command shift, press 4 & tap spacebar to see a camera icon. click on an open / active window when it's lighted in blue, click the mouse. saves the pic as a png on your desktop.

  • Image Capture doesn't recognize my Canon device camera (it has before). I made a copy of the Image Capture app by mistake.  What do I do?

My Macbook doesn't have iPhoto installed. ??  I don't know why, because it used to be installed.
I have been able to download photos from my camera using Image Capture, but now Image Capture doesn't show my camera in the Devices window.  It did yesterday.
Ideally, I would like to install iPhoto again, but how do I do it without having to purchase the app again?
    This might also be relevant:
I wanted to add an Image Capture icon to my dock, but I inadvertently made a copy of the app (called Image Capture copy).  When I tried to erase the copy, I couldn't.  Image Capture copy is in my Trash and the Image Capture app is in my Applications folder.  I tried opening the app from both the Trash version and the app version, but it doesn't help.
    Please help!

Use the disks that came with your Mac to do a custom install of the software you need, i.e. iPhoto.  The disk should look like #4 in this screenshot:

  • Image Capture App Not recognizing Iphone

Using a MBP with 10.5 with most recent updates. Running iphone 1.14
Iphoto does not import my pictures from my iphone. This is because image capture doesn't recognize it.
I have read many posts about this and will let you know what I have tried so far.
    - Disabled auto syncing in itunes and image capture
    - deleted the plist for iphoto, image capture, and preview.
    - reinstalled image capture from original leopard cd using pacifist.
    - reset and rebooted both devices many times.
I have an alternate install of OS X Leopard on an external USB drive which works well with my iphone and image capture, shows up right away.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be. I have given up, tried everything I could think of, but I know the problem lies with image capture not recognizing the iphone.

Already tried a connection without a hub, on both usb ports on the macbook.
As for secondary software that might interfere, none installed to my knowledge.
Well it looks like the mac quote of "it just works" doesnt work in my situation, I dont feel like booting to my second hard drive just to sync the photos. So I guess I will have to wait until my new macbook for a fresh install because I dont want to erase everything currently on my book.
might try and install and archive next time I have some serious software issues and hopefully that will solve my problems.

    Hi G-Man,
It's probably something in the Preferences folder; Users/herusername/Library/Preferences. Start by removing com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist and trying again. If that doesn't do it drag the entire Preference folder to the desktop, log out and back in. Launch it again and if it works you can either reset preferences for all System Preferences and apps or drag the preferences files a group at a time back to the new Preference folder in Library and test Image Capture each time. That way you can narrow it down to the one offending preference file.

  • Image capture won't recognize Canoscan lide 700f

Hello.  I have OS X, v. 10.6.7   I have been using Image Capture to run the Canoscan lide 700f scanner.  Then, it stopped recognizing the scanner.   Image capture is opened and says "no camera or scanner attached."  The scanner is operational.  The MAC sees the printer in systems preferences > hardware > print and fax. Any ideas on what I can do to get this scanner recognized by Image Capture again?  Thanks for your help.

I had the problem with the same scanner and Lion.  When the Mac would go to sleep, Image Capture would not recognize the scanner after it woke up.  Had to unplug and replug the USB connector to get it to start correctly.  I was blaming it on the scanner driver, but I accidently discovered that if I opened Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, all of a sudden the scanner would respond to an attempt to import from the scanner (to Elements).  After that, Image Capture could talk to it just fine.  So it appears that it is an Image Capture problem and not an issue with the Cannon driver.

  • Image Capture will not recognize my Epson Workforce 615

Image Capture will not recognize my Epson Workforce 615. It would not recognize my HP 4280 either.
I can print but I cannot scan using Image Capture. Scanning through Epson scan or HPScan Pro works.
What am I doing wrong? I have searched all over the net for an answer and there does not seem to be a solution. Only other people searching for the same answer.
And no I do not want to use VueScan.
    Thanks!

Thank you for your quick reply. I ran all of the updates and the software is current.
Image Capture recognizes the printer/scanner via USB but not WIFI.

  • Image capture won't recognize my ScanSnap iX500.  How do I make them work together?

Image capture won't recognize my ScanSnap iX500.  How do I make them work together?

To use Image Capture you need an ICA driver for your scanner. Checking the Fujitsu web site for drivers for the iX500 I only see a ScanSnap manager for OS X. No mention of an ICA driver. So you may need to contact your local Fujitsu support.

  • Image capture does not recognize Canon Scanner

I have two Canon Scanners, a Canoscan 8800F and a Canoscan LiDE 60. Image Capture does not recognize either of these. Both worked with Mountain Lion.

This user found some success acutally using *older* drivers. While that sounds odd, it might be worth a try: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23759017#23759017
I used to have a LIDE 60 - it is a great little machine. Good luck!

  • Image Capture does not recognize my Canon Pixma MP150 printer

Image Capture does not recognize my Canon Pixma MP150 printer since I upgraded to Mavericks.

To scan with Image Capture you need an ICA driver. Looking through the CanonDevices list in the /Library/Image Capture folder I cannot see an entry for the MP150. And I checked Canon Australia's web site and there is no ICA driver for the MP150. There is a scanner driver and MP Navigator for OS X 10.7. You may be able to install and use the driver and application on 10.9, although you will have to get past Gatekeeper to install both items as they are not digitally signed. To do this, you can hold down the Control key and click on the installer. A pop-up menu will appear and you can select Open. You will then be able to install the driver and then the application. If they do install then see if you can open MP Navigator and scan from the MP150.

  • HT201274 attempted to download new ios 6 software. wiped out sim card and computer doesn't recognize iphone now. blinking apple icon is only thing I get

Need help with iphone 4. tried to download new software and it zorked sim card and phone. Only get a blinking apple icon. Computer doesn't recognize iphone so I can't restore

    Hello henry lfrommiami,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your iPhone gives you the message "No SIM Card installed" please follow the steps below.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Turn airplane mode on and then off again.
    Restart your iPhone.
Check for a carrier settings update. Go to Settings > General > About. Install any available update.
Remove the SIM card and make sure that it's a valid SIM that your carrier provided. Also make sure that it's not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
A SIM tray that comes with one iPhone model won't necessarily work with a different iPhone model. When you insert the correct SIM tray, the SIM tray should be flush with the device.
If you have another SIM card, insert it. You can use a SIM card from any phone with the same format as your iPhone SIM card. If your iPhone works with that SIM card, contact the carrier that issued your original SIM card.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you still see the issue, contact Apple support.
If you see 'No SIM' alert on iPhone
    Cheers,
    Alex H.
