Image capture other than getSnapshot

Is there any other way to capture an image other than using the getSnapshot method? There is a processing overhead in the conversion from the byte array returned by the getSnapshot to an Image type. Is there a way to access the camera buffer? I need to get a frame from the video seen by the camera. Do some manipulation and then print it on screen. I need to do a series of this process of capture, manipulate, then show to imitate a real-time video. Can anyone help me please?

What information does the byte array contain? Is it the RGB data of the image but in byte and not in int? Is there a way to get the RGB data from the byte array so I can bypass the conversion to Image type?

Capturing other than DV/DVCAM

I am shooting with Betacam SP, and capturing to DV using a Sony DSR-45P.
If I want to capture to anything else than DV - let's say DVCPro or uncompressed (in order to get more coloour depth or just higher quality) can I do this? Or is the DSR-45P only letting me to capture using DV?

A lot of the confusion may be due to the fact that there are multiple "DVCPro" formats:
DVCPro, aka DVCPro 25
DVCPro 50, which was adopted early on by many local broadcasters to replace their aging BetaSP gear.
DVCPro 100

Not exactly. While, yes you can convert to some of the other formats with the proper equipment, if you're source is of a lower quality, you really shouldn't expect the final output to be that much better (if any). If you're shooting on DVCam (4:1:1) and trying to convert to a 4:2:2 format you'd be MUCH better off shooting in that format in the first place.

Image Capture - Download?

My computer was running low on memory, so I deleted some programs that I thought I'd never use. (Seeing as this is mostly my 'away from home, connect to internet only' computer, I didn't think I'd need a lot of the programs.)
It looks like I needed Image Capture to get pictures from my digital camera to my computer. Is there any way I can download this program? (I don't have any of the installation CDs with me for either the camera or the Mac.)

Here's an alternative: why not just pull the pictures into iPhoto instead?
And if you have to have them in the Finder instead of iPhoto, you can locate them in ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/<year picture was taken in>/<month picture was taken in>/<day picture was taken in> and copy (NOT DRAG) them somewhere else. Then go back to iPhoto and delete the pictures there so you won't have duplicates.
It's a bit more complicated, but then again, I don't know where you can get Image Capture other than from the OS X Install Disc... (So yea, I kind of didn't answer your question...)

Best app. for scanning other than "image capture"

Yesterday I purchased a mbp (10.7.1) and my old scanning program (Photo Studio) that came with my CanoScanLIDE 600 F, is no longer compatible. I don't care for "image capture" is there an alternative (preferably free) that would work? Thanks for any reccomendations.

VueScan is considered by many to be the gold standard. But I personally don't like it for my own scanner (Epson Perfection 1260). YMMV, of course. It is free to download and try out, but anything you scan with it will be watermarked. If you like it you will have to register it ($40 IIRC) to fully unlock it.

I recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, and I am experiencing a problem
with OCR text recognition.
If I use "Create PDF from Scanner" or "Create PDF from file" (using a
monochrome TIFF image) to create a PDF, I can then perform OCR on the PDF
file in Acrobat.
But if I open a monochrome TIFF image in some other program (Irfanview) and
print that to the Adobe PDF printer, then open that PDF in Acrobat and try
to perform OCR on it, I get the following message:
"Acrobat could not perform recognition (OCR) on this page because: This page
has graphics other than images or text on it. It cannot be captured."
If I select the scanned image in the PDF file using the TouchUp Object tool,
and then cut it to the clipboard, I am then able to then select a second
blank object on the page, that has the same dimensions as the scan (it is
full page size). If I delete that object, then paste the first one back in
(the scanned image), then OCR will work. So what is this additional object
that is preventing OCR? I did not have this issue with versions 4-8 of
Acrobat.
Also, this problem appears to only pertain to 1-bit monochrome images. I
scanned the same page to 8-bit grayscale, then printed that to Adobe PDF
from Irfanview, and that PDF file allows OCR to be performed. Does anyone
else have a problem using OCR when the PDF was created by printing a
monochrome raster image to PDF?

Not sure this will work for indesign, but for any other searches about the OCR problem with "This page has graphics other than images or text on it", I used this workaround for a huge scanned text that Acrobat 9 Pro wouldn't OCR:
1. Save As.... > TIFF image
This saved each page as a tiff, so if your file is big, you might want to create a special folder for it. (I had 1100 pages!)
2. Open the folder with the TIFF images.
3. Select all files.
4. Right-click > Open with.... > Choose.... > Other.... > Acrobat
5. Popup will ask if you want to open all files in a single document. Obviously a good choice for 1100 pages.
6. After the new PDF generates, save it.
7. Document > OCR --- should work now.
8. If it does, don't forget to delete the folders with the TIFFs.

So is this the way Apple works now? Not solving customers problems? I'm sure so many users have had this problem. I've had, and I reinstalled Mavericks 3 times. Works fine for some days and then several Apple Apps stop working. Is that a way to force us ti update to Yosemite? (I don't want to) and then pay to update some third party programs (i.e. Pro Tools). Also, there are so many 15" MacBooks Pro with graphic problems and of course the guys at the Apple Service Centers always say: "It's the logic board, you can have it replaced, but it's so expensive I would recommend a new Mac". I really, really miss Steve Jobs!

So how did you do it?
by understand what iweb widgets do, in this case setting gridEntry widget's scalMode preference from fill to fit.
then reset the displayed image, so it fits in the display area even if it's portrait aspect.
however, i found some glitches in gridEntry widget that's quite strange... but all fix-able.
perhaps, iweb experts (whose had poked at my example) here can chime in.

You had already done "Repair" and "Rebuild"? These usually takes scores of minutes or hours.
Does the Library on your external drive work from the external drive? Navigate to it in Finder and double-click the name.
If it does, delete the problem Library, empty the System Trash, reboot, Verify your system disk using Disk Utility (and might as well repair permissions while you're at it), reboot, test the external drive Library once more to confirm it works properly, then close it and copy the Library to your system drive. When the copying is done, double-click the Library (now on the system drive) and see what you get.

There is no other option other than change log table to view the images.
in PSA..we will get only raw data..i.e...its non other than the data how its posted in source sytem.we can say..this is only copy of source sytem data.
after PSA,if the datasource is DELTA enabled(which can sustain NEW or CHANGED records-here only we get concept of IMAGES),we have to load this data only to DSO.from there after activation of the data,the data can be updated to further data targets only from CHANGE LOG table which can maintain images.
Even further targets are also DSOs,we will have to load from this DSO only.so we can see images only in change log table.

Image Capture won't recognize cameras under another other users log in on the same computer even though it works perfectly under the main user log in. Can some body hep me pleeze? What am I doing wrong or how can I let my daughter use her digital camera under her log in?

It's probably something in the Preferences folder; Users/herusername/Library/Preferences. Start by removing com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist and trying again. If that doesn't do it drag the entire Preference folder to the desktop, log out and back in. Launch it again and if it works you can either reset preferences for all System Preferences and apps or drag the preferences files a group at a time back to the new Preference folder in Library and test Image Capture each time. That way you can narrow it down to the one offending preference file.

Photoshop CC displays images 25% smaller than other apps?

Why is Photoshop CC displaying images 25% smaller than my other applications? If I open a 72 ppi square pixel aspect image in Photoshop, I have to zoom to 125% for it to be the same size on screen as in my browser or any other image viewer. Photoshop reads the correct pixel sizes, but displays it smaller.
I design and build websites and have been using Photoshop for over 15 years and haven't noticed this until CC. If I save the images and build out the site, or even just drag the image into a browser and then overlay that browser window above the Photoshop window to see both images side by side, I can clearly see a 25% difference in size.
If I zoom in Photoshop to 125%, then the sizes match. So, the problem is when designing a website, everything looks smaller in photoshop. Then when I build it out, everything is way too big.
My browsers are definitely at 100% zoom and I can open the image in any other image viewer at 100% and the affect is the same.
Is there a setting that can be adjusted in Photoshop to correct this?

I also have the same issue. I can reporoduce exactly what Roger2012Jr mentions above.
I have Photoshop CC, Windows 8.1, screen resolution 1920 x 1080. Files look really sharp in Photoshop, but when the file is exported (for web or not) the image is blurry and about 125% the size it was in Photoshop. Also, when I bring an image from the web, tried with a random image it still looks perfectly sharp in Photoshop, just about 80% actual size. That same image exported still looks perfect in the browser, same as it was originally.
So starting from scratch with an image, there's no way to guarantee the quality when exported and quality looks really blurry. I can't use the program with any sense of confidence.
Can someone from Adobe shed any light on this?

Image capture 10.4 worse than 10.3

As a professional photographer I'm a heavy user of Image Capture.
It really is a god send.
but since 10.4 it has become a real pain to use. (almost like a windoze program!)
First it never remembers my window size and thumbnail size settings as it did in 10.3
Secondly it no longer adheres to standard Apple User Interface. eg press command to select single images and then add additional single images to the existing selection.
Yes i can press shift but this will select all images in between my specified selections as well!
However the plus side is that i use a 32bit PCMCIA card and the download speed is now incredibly fast!!! guess its down to loosing the useless spinning cube animation in 10.3.
Anyone know of a fix for the missing command functionality?

No, nothing special. I'm quite happy the net image app coming with Tiger works now - at least 98%. I had some troubles getting netboot working and in the end "messing arround" with the disk which contains the images did the trick.
I mean, all my settings belonging the server admin where allright, and after creating annother image and delteting an older one, unused one (I just didn't know what else to do) suddenly all worked perfect, and still does.

Images in these folders are synced to iPhone from different laptop and I need to download them in my laptop. I am able to download and access only those pics which are present in Camera Roll folder.Remaining pics are in different folder and also appearing in Photo Library from all folders.

Reflections on objects other than imported images

I just can't seem to add a reflection to any object other than an imported image (ie. text, boxes, circles all don't have the "reflection" feature enabled in the graphics page of the inspector).
Am I doing something wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong -- for whatever reason, Keynote can only apply reflections to imported images, and not native objects or text. Fortunately, there is a workaround for this, the Preview Passthru method developed by forum luminary Ken Drake. Essentially, if you copy an object or text, then open the app Preview and select "New from Clipboard" in the File menu and save the resulting image, the saved file can be imported into Keynote and will be treated just like any other imported image. Of course, it will no longer be a Keynote object, so it won't be editable in that fashion, but it can be adjusted like an image, and have a reflection applied to it.
Do note that you may have to crop the image in Preview in order to get the reflection effect that you want.

Here are my steps.
1. I upload multiple image (jpg) files onto my photo album.
2. I select the "sharing" by email option for this album.
3. I enter the recipient's email address.
4. The recipient receives my message and clicks on the link.
5. The recipient accesses my photo album and clicks on one of the images.
6. The image opens up to its own screen.
7. The recipient selects the "download" and then save file option.
Here is the part I do not understand. For some reason, during this "download" process, the original name which I have given to the file is replaced by different name. So I was hoping that someone knows how to prevent the file name from being changed during the "download and save" process.
Much appreciated if you can help me find a solution to this problem.
