Image changes when straightening

I've got some quite noticable brightness/colour changes on some of my images when using the straighten tool. With small waves on water, in particular, I can see the waves getting noticeably darker.
Anyone else seen this? (I'm not applying any other adjustments).
I know there'll always be some artifacts when doing this kind of inter-pixel interpolation, but it seems to me to be consistently in error, and in the same direction, in this case.
Quentin
P.S. I found these hints about gearing down the straightening rather handy:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=613193&tstart=15

Well, I haven't tried prints, but I've just tried exporting a 'before' and 'after' TIFF, and they both look OK.
So, yes, I think it's a limitation of the way Aperture displays the rotated image.
Note to self: don't straighten unless needed, and do any image adjustments with straightening switched off.

  • PDF image changes when opening in photoshop

sometimes when we open PDF files in photoshop the image changes. sometimes text disappears and other times fading occurs. Here is how it can be duplicated:
    1. First try downloading the file here http://www.m3printing.com/files/wierd.pdf
    2. open the file with acrobat. take note of the red NYN in the upper left
    3. open the file with photoshop. you will notice the YN becomes faded
any clues as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated
    ps. we use photoshop CS2

This doc is unnecessarily complex in its color structure.
It uses CMYK and seven spot colors. CMYK is DeviceCMYK,
which means, the space is not defined in the doc by an ICC
    profile.
A part of the red text vanishes if the doc is opened in Photo-
shop in CMYK mode. I don't know why. Perhaps a trans-
    parency flattening problem.
Analyzed by Acrobat > Tools > Print Production > Preflight.
My suggestion: convert each page into a well specified CMYK
space as recommended by the printer.
    The fastest solution:
Open in PhS in Lab mode with reasonably high resolution,
for instance 288ppi, convert into a specified CMYK space
    and save as TIFF.
    The correct solution:
Go back to the source program (InDesign) and replace all
Spots by process colors. Flatten and save by new name.
    Export as PDF.
Flattening in advance to Export guarantees the appearance.
Export with layers contains the risk that flattening at the
receiver turns out to be wrong.

  • Why does color of image change when imported to Photoshop

When I import or edit my Lightroom image into Photoshop the color tones of the image change to a darker tone.
    I'm using the same screen.
What can I do to correct this?

    Thanks for both responses .
I tried changing the export settings but still get a different color image rom the one I get in Lightroom.
Also, the monitor was recently callbrated, so could the answer be in PHOTOSHOP's color management settings?
When I checked PS's Color Settings window the " Working Spaces" setting was at  "sRGB"...
    and
Color Management Policies @ "Preserve Embedded Profiles
My first export from LR was also @ sRGB.
Any thoughts on some common settings that might put this right?
    Thanks again.

  • Folders and images change when hard drive disconnected

I have no problem importing images. From CD's, when the CD is removed the file folder and images stay there with reference to the original location.
However, I have several hard drives and when I import files and folders from one of them and then disconnect it, Lightroom renames all the folders and changes the images--What is causing this?????

Yes, the images stay on the external drive as I don't move them upon import. I have 5 external Hard Drives and my problem is with the two larger ones, both Firewire 800 if that matters. In any case, the files imported from the non 800 drives do not have any problems. They are noted as not being on-line when I disconnect the drive, but thumbnails, location and file naming are all the same. With the 800 drives, the images corrupt AND change name. A few will still show a path to the original, but the folder they are in has nothing to do with where they came from.

  • White color of RGB image changes when exporting to CMYK PDF

I'm used to work as long as possible in RGB. Even my images placed in InDesign stay in RGB. I only convert to CMYK while exporting to PDF. This always worked fine. I now noticed that RGB images with a white background changed in the CMYK PDF.
The white wasn't white any more, but C=1/M=1/Y=1/K=0 !
Result is a very light-grey background when printed on an offset press.
If I convert the image to CMYK in Photoshop first, I don't have this problem. I always thought InDesign and Photoshop used the same conversion-tool? Guess not ...
I didn't have this problem in CS2, I think. So my guess is it got something to do with CS3, but I'm not sure.
    Someone got an idea?
    I use Adobe creative Suite CS3 5.0.4
    Mac Os 10.5.5
Color Management is set to European Prepress (I already tried to change this --> no effect)

I've noticed that there are slight variations between Photoshop and ID, but I think it's just a rounding error. Photoshop's CMYK readouts are always integers, while ID swatches can readout numbers. So obviously it's possible to output 1.67% cyan, but Photoshop's info readout rounds that up to 2%. Try making an 253|253|253 RGB swatch in ID, then open Swatch Options and convert the swatch mode to CMYK. You'll get a conversion something like .78|.39|.39|0 depending on your profiles, yet the Separation Preview reads out 1|0|0|0 with the total ink as 2%.

  • Appearance of images changes when moving from ACR to PSE11 Editor .. why?

I run Windows 8.1 x64 bit on my new PC and use PSE11 which opens raw files automatically into ACR.  Once I've finished editing an image in ACR I then click on 'Open Image' which transfers the part edited file to the PSE11 Editor.  Once there I perform a few additional tweaks before cropping, sharpening and saving as a jpeg.
At about the same time as I installed PSE11 onto my new PC I became acutely aware of a change in the appearance of my images as they transferred from ACR to PSE11 Editor.  Having performed the basic adjustments in ACR and things are to my liking, the image now opens in PSE11 Editor looking rather washed out by comparison .. less contrast, maybe a little more brightness and a certain degree of reduced colour saturation.
Obviously all images are seen on the same monitor, so any fingers pointing at calibration issues don't count in this instance!  I just need to know if there is a fix that will return me to the situation I've always had before, where the part edited ACR image looks the same when it opens in the PSE11 Editor.  I have been using PSE in various versions for a number of years and this is the first time that I've experienced this irritating problem.
    Help, please!

Thanks for your reply Michel ...
The colour setting in both Editor and Organiser is: 'Always Optimise Colours for Computer Screens'
I believe this option will select the sRGB colour space by default and that the option 'Always Optimise for Printing' will default the colour space setting to Adobe RGB.  Is this so?  I only print occasionally (most of my viewing is on the monitor or the TV) but it would be nice to know if the chosen colour space chosen produce this odd effect I'm experiencing (although I sincerely doubt that it's got anything to do with it).
This option will be used by the ACR conversion module to set the colour space of the file imported in the editor. So, you are right, the sRGB colour space is a good choice for you. What's good is that the raw file itself has NO colour space. If you have edited a raw file for sRGB, good. But you can set your editor to 'optimize for print', and you'll get an aRGB version for printing. Worth a try if you have a good printer (mine is an all-in-one with 6 inks and I can see the difference for some subjects).
My camera (EOS 5D MkIII) is always set to sRGB.  Is this significant?
No for raw files. That's used only for the in-camera conversion to jpeg. It's a simple tag which is ignored in the ACR conversion process (see above).
The main issue though remains, namely the fact that part edited images look washed out in PSE Editor in spite of looking just fine in ACR a split second earlier, so I'm still looking for a remedy.
Such a difference is often noted when a file with aRGB colour space is seen in a software that believes it's sRGB. Nothing in your worklows seems to explain that.
Do you see a difference when you see the same edited picture in a non colour-managed software? I can't help you more for the moment.

  • Colour background images changes when applying effect

    Hey,
I created a page, with a large background image in the back. When applying an effect (like shadow, or transparency) to text above, the colour of the image below changes, it becomes less saturated. This persist even when exporting and viewing in Acrobat Reader.
Im using InDesign CS3 with Windows XP SP2
    Greets!

Try changing your transparency blend space to RGB.

  • Why does my image change when imported into Mac Captivate?

The image is a png and originally part of a Captivate 6 template created in Windows. When I import the image into Mac OS X Captivate 6 the quality literally changes before my eyes.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening? and how I can correct it?
    Thank you!

If that's the only place you used that unique font, yes.  Convert the textbox to an image file by applying a drop shadow to the font and setting the opacity of the drop shadow to 5%.

  • Adjust Image Problem - Image Changes when Mouse Click is Released.

I love the fact that images can be adjusted after insertion into a page (Things like brightness, contrast etc). The problem I have which is very frustrating is that while any control on the Adjust Image panel is selected and being edited (click and hold mouse button to move a slider), the images' contrast and brightness change (perhaps as if to indicate selection?). This is inherently a problem since it's these very characteristics you're trying to edit. So you adjust the image to your liking but when you release the mouse button, then image then suddenly changes and is no longer the way you want it. Anyone else seen this problem and have any helpful suggestions?

I have been trying to replicate your issue using  different format images..but I did not succeed.
If its not images and types that cause the  problem,  then the inference is that it the application.
The usual advice... unless you  want to contact tech support and present your problem to them - is to uninstall iBA with Appdelete or similar rather than dragged to the trash, and then do a reinstall.
This presupposes you saved everything/copies etc,.
BTW, I seldom use the various sliders, with practice using the LEVELS can be more effective, have you tried  this option?

  • Image Change When Transferred from Lightroom to PS (?Camera Profile)

I am having difficulty that I think is related to Camera RAW that I hope I can get some help with.
I updated to v7.2 today, but I think the problem started today before the update.  I get the image looking great in Lightroom and then either send to Edit in PS or to Open as Smart Object in PS (it doesn't matter, same results) and the image looks awful.  If I open the smart object in PS it opens in Camera RAW and when I look at all the Camera RAW settings they are all exactly the same as the Lightroom 4.2 settings until I get down to the camera calibration settings.  In Lightroom it is set to Process 2012 with Adobe Standard as the profile.  In Camera RAW it is Process 2012 but the profile is simply listed as 'Matrix' with no other choices available in the drop down.  In Lightroom, Adobe Standard and all the camera profiles are available for what I am shooting with, a Canon 5D MKII which I have used for years.  As recently as a day or two ago I did not have this problem (though I never looked to see what the Camera Raw profile was when it was coming over to PS correctly), though I suspect it may be the source of the problem since all the other settings are identical
Any help would be very appreciated as I can no longer work with images until this is corrected.
    Thanks very much,
    Howard

Perhaps this is a clue to the problem?  If I go to Program Data>Adobe>Camera RAW> Camera Profiles > there is a folder called Camera and another Adobe Standard.  Within the Adobe Standard Folder are Adobe Standard files for multiple cameras including the Canon 5D MKIII, but inexplicably there is not one for the MKII.  Likewise, the Camera folder contains folders labeled with different cameras.  There is a folder for the Canon 5D MKIII that contains the profiles (neutral, landscape etc) but there is NO folder for the 5d MKII.  What gives here?  Is this the problem?  If so how does one fix it?

If I have a set of 13 images, how can I use to change which image is used each time the page is loaded or REFRESH
    Thanks!!

By default, the first image in your list will always load first.  If you want to randomize the image sequence, use jQuery Cycle2 plugin with the "Random" option.

  • Why do the colors in my RGB image change when uploading to the web?

I'm editing my image within Photoshop & have worked with it being RGB from the very start. I place the saved image in Dropbox so I can access it from my phone to place on all my social media accounts. Once I got  to upload the image on the web to my social accounts the colors completely change becoming dull & drab, it looks nothing like the image I saved. Been racking my brain on how to fix this but haven't had a solution that worked yet. Suggestions?

    Hi Danippo13,
check out this video which explains very well the difference between different color profiles Visualizing Color Profiles on Vimeo and remember that the web uses "standard RGB - 72 dpi".

  • Image Brightness Changes When Authoring DVDs

    Hello,
To encode footage I export 720 24p footage from FCP as a Quicktime .mov using Microcosm then encode in Compressor using the standard Best Quality, 16:9, SD setting. The Quicktime .mov and the encoded .m2v file plays with the same image brightness and contrast as does the original footage in the FCP timeline, but once I author it in Studio Pro it consistenly looks lighter and consequently washed out when played back on the same monitor from the DVD. It also ends up looking lighter when played on a TV than programs from a typical rental DVD movie.
I set up my 23" Cine display carefully with with Apple's advanced profiling software, and images and color bars match footage displayed on my Sony PVM-14M that has been set up with color bars through a decklink card.
Can anyone offer advice about why this may be happening? So far my only fix is to arbitrarely change image brightness when encoding with Compressor. Is there some change I should be making in FCP to go from 720 24p HD footage to SD encodes?
    Thanks,
    Drew Harty
    G5 dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have read on various forums that people are getting better encodes from HD footage by exporting to a Quicktime file before encoding. Several people have complained about the results exporting directly to Compressor. I take it you haven't found this to be a problem?
