Image compare hurt by "noise" around edges within digitized image

Using 1411 IMAQ card and an NTSC color camera. Retrieving only luminance information. Snapping the same image under the same conditions twice in a row, I get a difference in the images. This occurs around the dark and light edges within the images. How can I best deal with this? Thanks.

I don't know what is causing the "noise" but it could noise from the cable, noise in the camera or just the way the CCD is going to work. Ideally you would want to take care of the problem in hardware if that is where it is coming from. However, in your case it doesn't look that bad and using a software filter takes care of it pretty good. I used Vision Builder and applied a 'Median Filter' of the 3rd order and got the attached image. In LabVIEW you would use the "IMAQ NthOrder.vi" to perform this operation. Hope that helps.

Reader Xi - has anyone noticed extra noise around scanned PDF docs not present in other apps?

hi all
i am viewing 300dpi colour PDF scanned documents from a HP MFP in acrobat reader XI and i see extra noise around the characters that are not present in the paid versions of the Adobe suite - Reader 9 + Photoshop CS6 64bit.
when viewed at 100% on screen, there is considerable noise around the character sets, particularly in the paragraph sections of text. when viewed in Photoshop CS6, the noise is considerably less. i realise reader is free, photoshop is not, but i think the image quality out of adobe reader is not ideal at the moment, which has been better in previous versions..
thoughts?

Thank you for posting on the forums. Reader is only displaying the scanned document, you can probably try as described in screen shot and see if it helps.
Again it is only displaying the data as carried over by the scanner.

I have a strange noise coming from within my 2011 iMac Desktop.

I have a strange noise coming from within my 2011 iMac Desktop. This started 1 week ago and is intermittent. It sounds like an electronic drill. I have removed all external connections and powered up the Mac and just left it running. Some 2 hours later the noise started. On hitting the space bar on the keyboard the noise stopped. I did a similar test and the noise started within 2 minutes so I have discounted any overheating issues.
With keyboard activity there is an increase in the frequency of this fault.
If you open safari when the fault reappears the URL web link text starts flashing at the same frequency as the noise. This fault can appear with or without the noise.
I’ve been typing these details out on Word and as soon as I went to save the document the noise started and as soon as I hit the OK option in the save window the noise ceased.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I think this issue might be related to my wireless Keyboard. have just noticed that certain combinations of keys do not work. The Right hand shift + ? didn't work but started this noise. Hit another key and the noise stopped Also I have problems using the right hand shift key with the letters Y, H & N , they don't work and are all in line.
So I'm taking the keyboard back to John Lewis. it will be easier to carry that the screen !!

Deinterlaced output creates noise on edges of video

I have a project that is to be distributed as a movie file on Flash thumb drives so I've been futzing with deinterlacing in Compressor.
I have ProRes interlaced source from client and I've created a Compressor setting of ProRes Progressive with Best (motion compensated) deinterlacing, Adaptive Details checked, anti-alias 7 and details level 7 and resize to 640 x 480.
This setting produced very good looking deinterlacing, but on the edges of the video is garbage that jumps around. It looks like purple snow stuff.
Any tips?

Unless you are UP-scaling your video, you want to leave adaptive details unchecked and keep anti-alias/details at Zero. These options are not related to deinterlacing - only scaling.
Hard to say but I would guess it's the adaptive detail setting that's creating the noise.
If you still get noise, you might try cranking out an uncompressed, same-as-source file out of After Effects and then compress that. Seems silly, but I've found that simply "re-wrapping" a file as an uncompressed quicktime will bypass whatever is confusing the compression software. The file will be ginormous and it's a bit of a workaround...but ifitworksitworks amirite?

How can I make a photoshop filter tile or wrap-around edges?

I have a procedurally generated image (a bird's eye terrain map). The edges wrap-around (I can tile the image without seams) I applied the Sponge artistic filter on it, but the edges don't match anymore.
Is there any way to get a Photoshop filter to recognize the opposite edge's pixels so that it maintains my tile effect? Thanks.

I don't know of a way to make the filter you ran on it recognize that you wanted to maintain the tiling ablility on the edges.
If you aren't concerned with it looking exactly the same you could always run the process of Filter/other/overpass using 50% pixels both ways and "wrap" and get a new tile. It will move things around though, yet it only takes a minute or two and looks similar.
I suppose that is maybe how you made the tile in the first place, in which case this wouldn't help to keep the image as you had it and just correct the edges.

That would generally be called chromatic aberration or color fringing.
Opening an image through Camera Raw (with the appropriate options enabled) is an excellent way to get rid of it, though you can also use Filter - Lens Corrections in Photoshop proper.

Noise In Edges of Title (video/motion graphics)

Anyone have tips on an approach to reduce Noise In the Edges of a Title?

Its really just a "cut out" with a stroke that then overlays a flashy and colorful video in an NLE.
It looks OK but by the time its rendered down to MPEG the edges get too crunchy.
Any tips would be great...

Iphone 4 flickering white light around edges of screen

I have and iphone 4 and there is a flickering white light on the edge of the screen that will not go away i have tried evereything exept reseting it because i would like to know if there is anyother way this happened when i was trying to exit out of an app called the 12 days of disney and the screen turned black with multi colored stripes down the sceen and when it finally turned back on the flickering light was around the edges. Does anyone have any idea what i could to to fix this? Please help.

Bright spots around edges of 27" iMac... Normal?

If I bring up a dark black background or load up a movie in Plex, on the edges I can telll that the area is brighter than the rest of the screen. The best way to describe it is kind of like a slightly brighter flood light filling the specific areas. Can someone check their 27" and see if it is doing the same thing?

Above will give you clear idea of what I mean. You can test it by turning down the lights, and loading up something dark, when you look straight at the monitor you will notice more light coming out from around some edges of the monitor.

I'll have to test this when I get home, but it might be becouse of the LED backlit.
Samsungs LED TV's also has bright spots.
Do you notice them while working on your iMac?

Pages gray areas around edges of document

On Pages I have created a brochure and when I print it, it cuts off part of the brochure. I selected show layout and it showed these gray areas around the brochure where it was cutting off part of the brochure. I can't get these gray areas to go away. How do I get them to go away?

I said they avoid the edges but since the non-printing borders vary from printer to printer, some can even print right to edges, a designer can only guess at what is reasonable. As Walt said, it is difficult to design a 3 fold brochure for the edge bleed because 1/3rd of the sheet isn't very big and the set back is quite large by comparison.
When you fold the brochure it is only the outer edge that doesn't print so it can look quite unbalanced.
You happened to pick the worst case, probably because it looked better on screen. It is laid out wrong too for the folds, they never allowed double the gutter to the insides of each leaf.
My kids have used that one umpteen times for school projects. We also use metric A4 so the problem is not quite as bad as the shorter US Letter.
I recognised the problem the first time they used the design and adjusted it to compensate.

MBA 13" trackpad sensitivity is terrible around edges

I just purchased a MBA 13" today and noticed that towards the edges of the trackpad, maybe within 1 centimeter of the edge, none of my taps register as a click. Also, if I slide my fingers along the edge of the left, top and right the cursor will move. If i do that on the bottom I get no response. If i slide my finger inward from off the trackpad and onto the trackpad I get no reponse on the left, top and right until I get a litte more towards the center. My main fear is that this is some kind of hardware bug or software bug that won't be fixed by apple. Thoughts?
Next, a habit of mine that I developed on my old MBP was to scroll by placing two fingers on the trackpad and moving only one finger. This doesn't seem to work reliably on my new MBA. Is this because of OSX Lion or is this also a potential defect of the new MBAs? Might this be because of the new "zoom" feature incorporated into Lion.

It is a multitouch glass trackpad. So, it is normal to have it not to scroll at the bottom of the trackpad or anywhere you just mentioned it would not scroll. It is normal,so do not worry! it is not a defect. My MacBook Air late 2010 has the same thing as your new MacBook Air. It is fine. Do not have to panic!!
As for the scrolling with one finger issue, you must scroll with two fingers sdown. Lion will zoom in with two fingers on the trackpad. It is SUPER sensitive, just like on the iDevices.When I installed Lion on my MacBook air, Late 2010, the scrolling also has been an issue for me. It always zooms in... So, I brought it to a apple store to have them help me downgrade to Snow Leopard for me. At that point when I bought the MacBook Air, it came with Snow Leopard installed so I had the USB stick bundled with the MBA.. As for the newer models that shipped pre-installed with OSX Lion, did not come with the handy USB stick. And no, you cannot use the USB stick or CD that came with your old MacBook Air because MacBook Air OS has a custom firmware number. So, no need to worry for all of the issues that you have just mentioned. Comgrats on your purchase with your new MacBook Air though!! Be sure to celebrate its birthday wen it turns a year though!!

Can't compare a row with other rows within a table.. (many to many compare)

Outer loop is working fine (it is raversing throughout the table) (say for 8000 records 8000 times)
But Enner loop is not working fine e.i. it's running just for 8000 times for 8000 records. while it should run more then 8000 time..
Can any one help me..

But again last requirement is like..
In the final BIO_DI_HIT_RESULT table I need to add one more column named as match_count
This column will have values of total no. of exact match field (not unknown) for each records in the BIO_DI_HIT_RESULT.....
One way of duing this is--
Step1: I will use a cursor for traversing through each of the rows in BIO_DI_HIT_RESULT.
Step 2: And based on count of matches in search_details(substring) and candiate_details(substring) I update each and every rows of the table.
It will be very slow.. And for records like 2 million records.. I can't think of this idea. :(
Sooooo,, Is there ANY BETTER WAY OF DOING THIS AS WELL.. BETTER MEANS FAST WAY.. :(

Warp Stabilizer introduces roll due to movement around edges

I'm finalizing a year's worth of daily photograpy into a time lapse movie. Of course the daily shots never quite line up, and I need to stabilize the image sequence. I'm using the Warp Stabilizer in Adobe CS 5.5 (10.5.0.253) version on a Mac MacBook Pro Core i7 with a 1Tb SSD HD and 8Gb of RAM.
Because this is year-round outdoor photography, various conditions like snow, rain, humidity, etc. cause tree branches in outer 1/3rd of the photos to droop or rise up. The stabilizer ends up using these objects to stabilize, instead of the more stable elements (ground, rocks) in the center of the picture. It causes AE to "roll" the photos back and forth. Is there a way to define the area, or tracking points, used in Warp Stabilizer, or perhaps tell it to ignore the outer 20% of the picture? Or do I need to go the more manual "Tracker" route to accomplish this?
I also tried using Photoshop to align the pictures, but with an image set of 390 photos (some days more than one photo was taken), photoshop just chokes.
Once I get my last photograph the morning of Dec. 31st, I'm hoping to have all my time lapses finished, uploaded, and published by 5pm New Year's eve.
Any suggestions would be greatly welcome.

AE CC will allow you to isolate areas in the WarpStabilizer. CS5 will not. I do not think that is the right tool for the job.
I took a look at your photos and there's not much there to lock on to. Humor me and read the following story.
I did a similar timelapse project in Glacier park a bunch of years ago. We packed 15 miles in to the wilderness on horseback with a surveyors transit, 4 sacks of concrete and some hardware to set up a mounting base for a movie camera late in August. At the location I did some survey work, checked the sun path tables, made a bunch of calculations, shot some stills and set up a permanent mounting system by pouring concrete and setting mounting studs in the ground so we could return and mount a Mitchell 35MM camera on a set of Baby legs with a motorized geared head and a Tobin motor controller. From my calculations I planned that the camera would shoot 1 frame every 80 seconds from sunrise to sunset tracking the sun across the sky.
Early the next spring, the first time we could get in through the snow we packed in with the camera gear, located our mounting pad, and then spent 2 days doing time lapse. We returned every two weeks until the snow became so deep we could not get back in. We ended up with a boat load of time-lapse footage panning from east to west from sun rise to sun set. The sequences were combined in post so the camera action matched exactly and the seasons changed as we panned across the scene. Starting with a sunrise on a snow covered valley, seeing the wild flowers bloom by the time the sun was 1/4 the way across the sky, then the full glory of summer at the half way point, to leaves turning gold and snow falling at sunset and deep snow at dusk. The shot worked because of planning and accuracy. There was no such thing as camera tracking when I did the shot (1978 - 1979), it was all matched up on an optical bench a frame at a time.
This story brings me to my point, you've picked a very difficult scene with only a few immediate foreground objects to track. The best way to line those objects up would be to use Photoshop's Edit/Auto Align. Portrait photographers use this tool to line up group shots so they can easily replace faces. I gave it a try with a screen cap of 6 of your photos. It works fairly well, but there are slight differences in camera position and angle that make perfect alignment difficult. I'm sure that this will work much better than WarpStabilizer and you can tweak the frames that don't quite match up by hand. Load your Photoshop file as a composition and sequence the layers.
Next time you plan a project like this make sure that there are several areas in the image with constant immobile geometry. We used the ridge line of the distant mountains to pull off the shot I talked about. I wish I had a link to it, but the client has held on to the footage like it was the Hope Diamond.

Which CPU did you get? The i7-29xx CPU has a larger (and noisier - even at lower rpms - cooling unit) than the 27xx and 28xx.
