Image conversion settings

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/robohtml/WS58A8F266-0345-4a92-AE66-24F1832E8C6F.html

Hi DD,
You may have better luck using FM10 with RH9, or using FM9 with RH8, as the products are historically off by 1 rev # since the introduction of TCS.
I have the best luck with eliminating both the Use Distiller and the Do Not Regen options during conversion. Have you tried this yourself yet?

  • Controlling Image Conversion quality from Word to RoboHelp 8

I cannot find settings that will control image quality when converting Word documents to online help files by means of RoboHelp.
My problem is that screen captures, which were inserted as PNG or bitmaps, are reproduced with what looks like GIF or JPEG quality in the online help. I want better quality.
I read that for Famemaker, there are image conversion settings that enable one to preserve full, lossless (screen) resolution during the conversion.
Is there a way to do this for conversion from Word 2007 documents to RoboHelp 8?
    If not, perhaps RoboHelp 9?
    Much obliged.

I am importing the Word documents into RoboHelp HTML version 7.0.  I did the following  experiment:
I imported a document with images containing vector text (the images are in Microsoft Office Object format) from Word 2007 to RoboHelp HTML 7.0, I got poor quality (badly formed text / aliasing). I presume this comes from the rendering and compression performed by the import function. I also saw JPEG artifacts in the raster (screen captures) images of the kind visible at very high compression ratios and which were not visible in the original.
When I insert the very same images, saved as PNG format at screen resolution, directly into RoboHelp HTML 7.0, I get good quality.
It seems that the Import from Word function is rendering and converting the images to a compressed format without preserving sufficient quality.
    My questions are:
Is there a preferred format for the embedded images in Word for better import to RoboHelp, especially when the images contain (vector) text?
Are there accessible configuration parameters for the Import from Word function, that can control the rendering, and/or the quality level of JPEG compression, and/or give a choice between compressed and uncompressed images.
How can I access those parameters?
    Thanks!

  • "Unable to save the raw conversion settings. There was a write permission error."

I just built a new workstation for processing photos using PS CS5. I use external drives to store my images as I find it easier for backing up as well as for when I want use my laptop for sorting, etc.. I copied over all my old "Collection" files, and of course, had to "fix" them once on the new machine. Once pointed in the right direction, the collections all fill out correctly.
When I go to process a collection though, I encounter an odd problem I can't seem to sort out. I can delete files, rename files, copy/paste to the external drives, etc.. What I can't seem to do is add Labels, Ratings, or modify RAW settings. I mean, I can use ACR to make adjustments, I just can't seem to save them.
The system just ignores label, rating commands completely. When I try to save an ACR adjustment I get this error. "Unable to save the raw conversion settings. There was a write permission error."
The files are NOT write protected. I'm set up as the owner of my workstation, with complete control of the system. I can't seem to find any useful information about this error because the "write permission error" seems to only be happening on installs, so that's all I can find help for.
    My system:
    Intel Core i7 970@ 3.20GHZ
    24.0 GB RAM
    64-bit OS - Windows 7 Pro
    DX58S02 Motherboard
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580

Thanks for replying. I've been going crazy trying to fix this.
To answer your first question; I use sidecar XMP files. If everything from my archive was shot in RAW I'd try converting to DNG and see if embedding the changes directly in a file worked. Unfortunately, a lot of my old stuff was shot in JPG, so sidecars seems to be the best choice.
When I add labels, ratings, as well as change RAW settings on files I place on my workstations HD everything works. It's only when I try to do these things with the same files on removable drives that I run into trouble. The drives I use are Transcend 640GB StoreJet 25ms connected via USB.
I don't think it's a UAC problem. At least, to my understanding, doesn't that control how your machine alerts you to program changes? I looked into how to change ownership, and did so, but that didn't work. Here's a link to what I mean: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/windows-7-access-denied-permission-ownership/
I'm stumped. I also hate the idea that I'll have to go through various folders to find images from already created collections, copy them to a new folder on my HD and then work on them. Then I'll have to put them all back... ugghhhh

  • CS3 VB "Image color settings"

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me where I can set the icc profile on an InDesign.Image object?  This would be like setting the "Profile" on indesigns "Image Color Settings" dialog.  I've found the rendering intent (ImageRenderingIntent), but not "Profile".
    Thanks!

Actually now that I look at your problem a little closer, I think you need something different from what you're asking for.
You are importing a CMYK image with a 340 TIL. You mention you need it to be Document CMYK, which is a different GCR CMYK from the image. In such case it is good that the image has the profile imported with it.
Output using one of the PDF/X standards. Select "Convert to Destination" without the preserve numbers. Document CMYK.
Native InDesign colors will not be converted. The LCP MaxK 340 will be converted to your Document CMYK.
Bottom line: if the images need to be in the Document CMYK color space, and you want InDesign to get them there, they must undergo the conversion when you output the PDF.

  • Do you change the default RAW conversion settings?

I have used Sony (and formerly used Panasonic MFT) cameras (a900, a850) for two or three years and never had any reason to change the default RAW conversion settings.  Five weeks ago I started using Sony's new a77, and for the first time am not satisfied with Aperture's default RAW conversion.  (I recalibrated all my monitors -- twice -- thinking that something in my color workflow had got busted.)  The default a77 RAW file conversion results in an overly-saturated, "Disneyfied" picture.  I have found that by sliding "Boost" almost to zero, and cutting "Hue Boost" by half, I end up with a much more life-like, atmospheric, picture -- and one that closely matches the default rendering of RAW files from the a850 and a900.
    1.  Do you change the default RAW conversions settings?  Why?
    2.  To what units, specifically, do the scales of these controls refer?
    3.  It seems that Hue Boost provides a range of settings that corresponds to the print settings "Perceptual" (= zero hue boost) to "Relative Colorimetric" (= full hue boost); does that make sense?
The User Manual, as usual, provides a solid concise explanation of the RAW Fine Tuning Brick.
Any experience you can share is appreciated.  Thanks.
    (Added:
(It seems conceptually wrong to me to have these controls be part of the RAW converter.  Are there other adjustments in Aperture that do the same thing?)

William -- many thanks for your help.  I will almost certainly change the default for my a77 (as well as for the Nex-7 I used for a week).
Are there is any other adjustments mathematically similar to the "Boost" or "Hue Boost" sliders in the RAW Fine Tuning Brick?  I ask for two reasons:
    - Mostly I'm just trying to figure out what they do, and strengthen with knowledge my quiver of Aperture effects.  According the the User Manual, they change the overall contrast, and the amount to which the hue is changed as the overall contrast is increased.
    - In practice, it makes sense to me to have the RAW conversion produce the "flattest", least "effected" image possible -- to leave _aesthetic_ adjustments to me.  I don't want to use the RAW Fine Tuning controls as part of my workflow; I want to know how to get the same increase in contrast and control of hues using other adjustments (that, specifically, don't require de-mosaic'ing).  Apple seems to indicate that the use of the RAW Fine Tuning controls may be the best approach:
For images that consist of saturated primary and secondary colors, such as an image of flowers in a lush garden, shifting the hues to their true values has a desirable visual effect. However, this is not visually desirable for images containing skin tones.
The implication is spelled out in the sentencesthat follow: use the max setting for flowers, and the minimum setting for portraits.  Isn't it odd that this recommendation is left to the RAW converter, and is buried deep in the User Manual?

  • Image Color Settings Default

Hi, I’m having a problem with color profiles. When importing images through bridge into one of my Indesign documents the Image color setting is defaulted to the color profile of my image that I am importing. When I start a new document the default setting is “Use Document Default”. You can access this setting by right clicking on an image box in Indesign and going to Graphics -> Image Color Settings.
Why is the default import option for the color profile different for just that one document and how do I get it to always import with “Use Document Default”.
This is causing problems when we send our file to press because we are using GCR on the images and not having “Use Document Default” set is separation problems.
    I’m running:
    Windows XP
    Creative Suite Cs3

  • My Conversion Settings Menu is empty?

    Hi guys,
I was wondering if someone might have an idea what is going on with my project. I am trying to reconfigure the conversion settings I used when I imported my word document into Robohelp. When I go to Project Settings > Import Tab > Word Document Edit Button..., there is nothing appearing in the Paragraph, Character, Table, or Other Settings menu...
I wanted to reconfigure my pagination setup for a particular heading for my project, however, I cannot do that since nothing is being displayed in that Edit Conversion Settings menu. It looks like the image below:
I have no idea what is up with that.
If someone knows a solution, I would greatly appreciate it
    Thanks.

    Hi all
I think the larger question here is how exactly is the "import" being done?
If you are simply importing content, you are in the wrong place for conversion settings. The dialog you pointed out is for when you are *LINKING* a Word document to establish an ongoing relationship where you repeatedly see ongoing edits to the Word content.
If all you are doing is importing (where you suck in the content, then discard the Word document and forget it ever existed as a doc file) you click File > Import and from the ensuing dialogs you get the conversion settings after clicking a button to open them.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Image Sequence Settings in QT Pro - what is the Frame Rate range available?

I am considering purchasing QT Pro for Windows. I wish to make a time lapse movie out of a series of pictures. I would like to know what the range of options is for the "Image Sequence Settings" in File->Open image Sequence... menu. Does is it go well beyond 1 second?
    Thanks!
    Chris

Frames rates are from 10 seconds per frame up to 60 frames per second.
I make many image sequence movies and just start with one frame per second.
I then "add scaled" to a properly timed audio only file. This way you can get nearly any frame rate you could ever need.

  • List styles not showing up in Conversion Settings dialog

In linked Frame documents, RoboHelp collapses multi-level unordered lists (bullets and subbullets) to a single flat list. So this in FrameMaker:
    Fruit
    Vegetables
    Carrots
    Peas
    Becomes this in RoboHelp:
    Fruit
    Vegetables
    Carrots
    Peas
This happens when I map both bullet and subbullet styles to "Normal" and choose "Convert Autonumber to HTML List". To resolve this, I can either map my subbullet styles to Source (which has its own issues), or I can map the subbullets to a different paragraph style. So I tried creating a list style. But now I can't select the new style from the Conversion Settings dialog. It doesn't show up in the RoboHelp Style drop-down, and I can't manually enter the style name. It's strange, because my other custom styles are listed.
I've tried switching to a differents CSS file and even restarting RoboHelp, but it's still not reading my changes. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Melanie

    Hi M_
It looks like you're mapping your 1st and 2nd level lists to the same css style in RH.
    Try (for example) mapping
    1st level bullets to BodyLevel1
    2nd level lists to BodyLevel2
Converting your autonumber to HTML List
You should get nested UL's in your HTML, although IIRC there's an odd bugaboo if you have a single 2nd level list item at the end of your nested lists. I think that one's a bug in the conversion process, and is best handled by avoiding that situation in FM.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Try to find where are 3D conversion settings saved

    Hi,
Is there any other way to change these settings, differs from "Edit->Preferences->Convert to PDF"? Maybe there are saved in file or into Windows registry? I'm a programmer and trying to simplify 3D conversion for my users. Thanks!
    Best regards, Dmitry

I am dealing with a similar issue. I would like to save a backup copy of my customized 3D conversion settings. What directory does this write to?

  • How to change conversion settings?

I have an standard Adobe Acrobat 6.0 version and I want to convert a received pdf text document into a word doc so that I can edit it.  I can't find the "change conversion settings" selection in any of the menu tabs?  Do you know where it is?  In addition, if you know the best way to accomplish this than I would appreciate all the instructions.
    Thanks
    Rick

You use Save As under the file menu and select DOC (I think that AA6 had that option). If not you can try to save as HTML or simply TXT. Do not expect great results in the conversion. You will likely have to redo all of the formating. The newer versions of Acrobat do a better job, but a lot depends on the tagging. If there tags created from the original WORD document, you may have a chance of saving the format. If there was no tagging, you will likely lose all formating.
The conversion settings will either be at the bottom (button) of the save as screen or in the EDIT>Preferences>PDF to appl, or in both places. There are not a lot of choices and as I mentioned you should not expect perfection - you won't get it.

  • Extracting information about image compression settings

    Hi,
Is there any way using SDK 7.0.5 to determine what image compression settings were used for color, grayscale, and monochrome images for a given pdf file?
Also, is it possible to determine which color management policy was used?
    Thanks,
    Daniel Sheiner

Okay, Distiller was a bad example. The same range of settings are available for exporting PDFs from Word. What if someone converted a Word document to a PDF?
Supposing some or most of the information I'm looking for is lost, how much can I infer? For example, if a given PDEImage has the PDEColorSpace DeviceRGB or CalRGB, that at least tells me the user didn't select Color Management Policies -> Convert All Colors to CMYK. It would actually be tremendously helpful if you could tell me which other ColorSpace names, if any, would indicate the user didn't select Convert All Colors to CMYK.
It would also be quite helpful to know if there is some indirect way to determine that a given color or grayscale PDEImage has not been compressed using ZIP, or that a monochrome PDEImage has not been compressed using CCITT Group 4.
    Thanks!

    Hi all
I wonder how these image conversion happens when it comes in the point of converting multiple image in to a single TIFF..i am doing it to the extent resulting in the image creation with file size..The Mystery is i dont have any image when i open the TIFF image...can some one guide me how to handle things...

    Hi,
    thanks for reply.
But changing in SPRO ->  is just the display option.
But the issue that is being faced is with the currency conversion in the query.  since the rate for that currecny maintained in tcurr table is a very small value, the conversion is not happening and its displayed as it is in the query output.
also, we cannot go with the option of changing the ratio in tcurr table for this currency, because there are so many dependent objects and then we have to change some logic for all those to incorporate this rates. and our Basis team has mentioned that changing the ratio will not be done because of this.
how do i go about?  whether any other methods available?
