  • Cropping Layers with Crop Tool in Photoshop CC 2014?

I have been trying to find out if the crop tool can be used in Photoshop CC 2014 to crop layers individually rather than the entire file, and I am not finding any answers through any searches. I can't even find a standard Abode How-to for cropping in the CC version. Is the Marquee tool still the only (best) way to crop an individual layer?
Also, I have been looking at a crop tool tutorial for the CC version that seems a bit opaque to me in the way it's written (Adobe Photoshop CC for Photographers), and it refers to a Crop options fly-out menu, but I can't find any way to access this.

The Crop tool is not designed for the job you would like done. As you have seen, it crops the entire image.
Instead, use the Rectangular Marquee tool to frame the area you would like to maintain. (Sample 1)
Then choose Select > Inverse. It will select the area to be removed.
Then tap the Delete key. Result is Sample 2)

  • Cropping tool for illustrator

    hello,
does anyone know of a similar plugin or a script or something that can do Cropping like Kimbo did, but for CC?
I've searched, but I haven't found anything and it seems crazy that no one would try to replicate that function.
this is the plug I'm refering to
    http://members.shaw.ca/spvincent/plugins/Kimbo_files/Kimbo.html
but I actually only care for the rectangle cut tool. it is very hepful for cropping nasty autocad imports.

http://www.astutegraphics.com has several plug ins which will allow similar operations as the Kimbo plug in used to.
As for the simple cutting, Illustrator's built in Pathfinder can complete that. There is a Pathfinder > Crop option. It won't work on all object (rasters, meshes), but other than that, it will crop shapes as needed.

  • Image Crop Tool embedded in website

    Hi All,
I have a client who wants to have on their website a crop and size tool for uploaded images.
Can anyone point me in the direction of one that can be embedded?
Just to be clear, sites like Photobox use them. When you upload your image you can crop it to how you like and change the scale.
    Any help would be great!
    Thank You,
    Alex

  • Crop tool won't deselect

I was trying out the crop tool on Illustrator CS3 on Windows XP. I can access other tools but when I use the select tools it keeps returning to the crop tool. The file is a pdf opened in Illustrator (raster). Vector files are not a problem -
When I go back to the original pdf and open it the crop tool still appears and I get a horizontal band already selected. This band an be deleted or resized but I cannot access the area I want to use.
How do I get the crop tool off?

    Frustrating isn't the word.
I reported this through a previous post (much the same as you are experiencing).
    crop not keeping to ratio
It was ok in LR3 and is ok in LR5 (I think)
so they have fixed the bug, but where does that leave the LR4.4 users ??
    Upgrade to LR5 ?
Surely there should be a LR4.4 bug fix that can be downloaded instead of yet another purchase to upgrade.

  • Crop tool won't drag with CC Photoshop 2014

I have searched everywhere and talked with Adobe support through chat (they ended that abruptly??!), and Twitter and still have not had any resolution to this. I hope someone can help.
I'm trying to do a simple crop. I've done it a million times with no problems BEFORE CC 2014.
I select the crop tool and try to drag but it always stops immediately and selects the entire image as the Crop Preview.
    I've tried:
    using "Classic Mode"
    different Ratios/Resolutions
    uninstalling/re-installing
installing the latest update - but that always fails. - I'll even completely uninstall, then when it goes to re-install it will install the one file (after a million attempts at failing to download it) and then fail on an update that it tries to install. I've tried at least 20 times. AT LEAST!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!  Could it be my NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS? (I know that's not the reason for the failed downloads from Adobe servers - that's all on them.)

I have spent a week trying to get this to work and now it just started working for all images. I have NO idea why.
    Here's what I did:
    1. uninstalled NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS drivers and reinstalled them
    2. uninstalled CC Photoshop 2014 (2x)
    3. clean install of CC Photoshop 2014 (2x)
    4. installed update (took dozens of tries before this actually downloaded and installed successfully unfortunately)
    5. clicked on the crop tool and tried to drag... nothing happened
    6. waited, waited and waited.. went about my other work and forgot about it and then after about 5 minutes the crop box appeared. I was able to adjust it too.
No idea but I'm happy now.

  • Crop Tool Confusion When Used to Change the Dimensions (but not the resolution) of an Image

Picture this.  You have a real photograph in front of you.  Its dimensions are 7x5 inches, and you want to cut out of that photograph, a 4x4” square.  You’re not bothered by the rest of the photograph, you’ll discard that, so you mark your 4” square on the photo at the place you want to keep, and with a pair of scissors, cut (crop) the photo accordingly.
Using the analogy above, I’m having difficulty achieving what should be an extremely simple operation in Photoshop CC 2014.  I have an image which is 5000px wide x 3800px high at a resolution of 240px/inch.
Using the “W x H x Resolution” option of the crop tool, I want to crop the image to 2100px x 2100px, maintaining the original image resolution of 240px/inch.  No matter what settings I use in the crop tool toolbar, the crop tool insists on sizing the crop by assuming the full length of the shortest axis on my image.  In this instance the vertical distance.  If I initiate the crop, I do end up with a 2100px square image at 240px/inch, but the shortest original dimension (and hence pro-rate the image) has been rescaled and resized.
What I was expecting to see is the crop tool outline simply showing a square which represents 2100px a side at 240px/inch relative to the image I’m viewing.  I would then drag the outline to the position where I wanted it, and then crop the image.  This isn’t happening.  I can manually resize the crop area with my mouse, and rely on the floating information pop-up to check the actual crop dimensions, but this seems counter-intuitive (not to mention difficult when attempting a pixel accurate crop).
Strangely enough, if I change the size of the crop window by using the mouse, and right click inside the crop area, the context menu has the option “Use Crop Box Size & Resolution”. Selecting this option updates the toolbar with the chosen crop size and everything is as expected.  Surely, this is what the crop toolbar should do in the first place?
Am I missing something here? I may not perform this particular operation very often in Photoshop, but I’m sure it worked the way I thought is should before!
    Regards,
    Steve

You'd better use the Marquee tool for this. Set the desired number of pixels in the options bar. Click and drag and finally Image > Crop.

Hello, my name is Todd, I recently dowloaded PS CC 2014. I have used PS for decades. The crop tool will show the progress bar, then at about 25% it will totally stop, even on VERY small 72dpi images. What can I do? Thanks!

Double check all the settings in the crop tool, and make sure you aren't telling it to create a HUGE image as a result of your settings.

  • Illustrator, Really? Fast Image Crop

    Hi guys,
I decided to start this post with "Really?" like a SNL sketch...hehe. I have been using Illustrator for quite a while but i am not expert with it. One feature that really bothers me is that i can't really fast crop an image unless i draw a rectangle on top and then apply a crop mask. Why so many steps? Some might say illustrator is for vector and if you want image and text editing go to Photoshop or InDesign. I don't agree with that. I use it for a fast presentation and friends that just started to use it last week tell me "Why i cannot crop an image fast?"
So is there any way to fast cropping an image in the CS5 Illustrator that i might not be aware? I might consider an external plugin or script...but again paying for bottle water is always a rip off. That should be a internal feature long time ago, even Corel Draw has it.
    Thanks and cheers,
    S.-

we're all regular users here and we're trying to help...maybe if your choice of words would have been "is there a way to make a clipping mask in Illustrator faster than the way Indesing does it?" then the answer would have been "no", end of story...
I don't understand your quest for speed, usually working with illustrator is not associated with churning out the most artwork per minute as humanly possible, but who knows, you might have a legitimate reason for shaving off micro seconds of an operation, otherwise you wouldn't be asking.
but now that we know what you need, being, a quick way to apply a clipping mask and a quick way to modify such clipping mask, I think this is the best Illustrator can offer, based on what others have said above
    - right after placing your image, hit Ctrl+7, no need to draw a rectangle, or if it is already placed, select it and hit Ctrl+7 or as Monika said push the "Mask" button on the Control Panel.
    - to modify the mask A La Indesign, with your masked image unselected, grab the Direct Selection Tool (A), click on the Mask (not on the image), and grab the Selection Tool (V) (or hit V on your keyboard) to get the bounding box. At this point you can  modify the mask exactly the way you do it in indesign.
man, if that's not fast enough for you, then, are you racing with your coworkers? maybe try bugging Adobe with a feature request pronto.

  • Error loading plugins brs pencil tool | cc | Illustrator 2014

    Hello there,
I use Illustrator cc 2014, and recently when I open the application, there will be a pop up with "error loading plugins brs pencil tool". I click continue, and the pencil tool is completely missing from my tool bar. I wanted to know what would be the best way to fix this? I have tried updating the software and it says "failed to update, error u44m1p7". I don't want to mess around with any of the plugins manually as I know there has to be a certain way they are placed and installed, and I'm not sure what the right way is. If someone has had to remove and add a plugin before and knows how that info would be helpful.
    Thanks for any help,
    -Laura

    Laura,
You may consider a reinstallation using the full three step way (otherwise strange things may linger):
Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 - Custom Crop Marks?

    Hello all,
I've been looking for a solution to this problem for some time now, and am hoping to find help here!!
Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 - want to be able to customize how crop marks are created through Object>Create Trim Marks.  Does anyone know of any plugins that could achieve this?  Manually shrinking and shifting the crop marks takes too much time...
Thanks in advance to any contributors!

I know of no plugins for this.
The fastest way we found was to use Libraries.
    1. Make one set of trim marks and save it in the library.
    2. On a new document, make a box the trim size of your doc.
    3. Snap guides to the 4 edges of the box.
    4. Drag out the crop marks (double, triple, with registration marks, or whatever you created in your original Library item).
    5. Snap each of four mark sets to the guide corners.
    Voila.
