Image cropped during printing!

Hello,
I have a tiff image that is 13 x 48 inches @ 300 dpi, that keeps getting cropped to 8 x 11 inches during printing. I do not understand what is happening.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 printer. I set my paper size in the "manage custom sizes" dialogue box, double and triple check all of my settings, previews and every maddening, minute detail, but it keeps cropping my images and I have wasted a plethora of ink and beautiful handmade paper.
I have done everything imaginable to try and remedy this problem. I have updated my printer driver, researched forums, spoke to support, had my friends look at my Photoshop settings, gone through every setting and tool and nothing is working.
I can't help but think it is something so painfully obvious and simple. Any ideas? Could it be my screen resolution, some obscure setting in Photoshop?
Thank-you for any ideas...

What is the size of your paper?  What are the pixel dimensions of the file?  How much RAM and how much available disk space do you have?
What exact version of Photoshop are you running, 12.0.2?  What exact version of the OS, 10.6.7 ?
Have you downloaded and installed the latest version of the Epson driver for your printer?
Can you post a screen shot of what the print dialog box looks like in Photoshop?

  • Images cropped when printing

In Photoshop Elements 10, when I attempt to print 5X7 images on an 8.5X11 sheet in landscape mode, it reduces the image size to 3.5X4 and crops the image. The image appears correct in the print preview, but reduces and crops when printed. I have printed on both my Epson and my HP with the same results. If I open the image in Photoshop 7, it prints fine. Can anyone help?

Can you post a screen shot of your Print dialog from Photoshop Elements, it sounds like a setting might be off.

  • Font / image issue during printing - HELP PLEEEASE!

    Hi there everyone!
I've got a problem here .... not sure what went wrong, anyway, my document has gone to print and there is an image which is overlapped by the body copy. now, the image is tilted and you can see where the borders of the image are .... the font got bolded ... and that's how it came out at the press ..... deadline is tuesday and we're not sure what to do to fix this .... PLEASE, if anyone has an idea what to do, i would really appreciate it!

    Hi Peter!
the image has a white background and just sits below the text frame.
I gave them the InDesign file with all the links, fonts - everything they could need and i am not sure what they did with the file.
Was also thinking that they might have outlined the fonts, but since they are not around today, I could investigate further.
    It's press output ...
Sort of hoped a professional printer could deal with an InDesign file ...
Anyway, now I have a LOT of questions ready for them for tomorrow ...

  • Scaling a large Image during printing

    Hi,
my Help includes some large images that are cut at the right side when printed. Is it possible to scale such images during printing, so that they fit on the printed page?
    I use OHJ, V4.2.6 with JDK 1.5.0_06.
    Thanks,
    Mirko

I don’t think you want to set the image’s width/height to the page dimensions.  I think that will shrink the image to fit the page.  If you leave the image as a larger size, FlexPrintJob should chop into enough pages.

  • Automated Cropping for Print Preparation?

I am interested in "best practices" advice for creating cropped versions of placed images in InDesign after I've designed a document, in preparation to send the document to a printer. My current workflow is as follows:
I gather images, some of which may be very high resolution
I place images into the document begin to move, resize, and/or crop images to achieve the design. This often implies a lot of careful adjustment as I start to see the elements of the design coming together. I keep the image resolution high to permit this sort of adjustment. For instance I might zoom in on one image by increasing its size, and leave a majority of it outside the crop window.
When the design is finalized, I find myself with a collection of very high resolution files in the packaged link folder. It's good that they're high resolution, but when I check my links palette, I find that most of my "effective dpi" values are considerably higher than 300 dpi. I have way too much image data and physical image area than I'm actually using.
What would be ideal is a function that essentially does this:
Take all my high resolution source files, and
crop each one to the dimensions I'm actually using in my InDesign file, based on where I've drawn the crop window
reduce all images to 300 dpi in the cases that my effective dpi is higher than 300. For example, I might have a 300 dpi image at 8x10" which I reduced to 4x5" and cropped in half, so now I have a 2x5" image at 600dpi. That's great, but in that case, I shouldn't be sending a 300dpi 8x10" image to the printer - I should be sending them a 300dpi 2x5" image with the exact crop that I specified when I was designing in InDesign - otherwise I'm just wasting space.
I could of course go into each of my high res source images, open them in photoshop, set the dimensions of the canvas to the dimensions of my crop window in InDesign, and try to eyeball the crop, but in many cases I've been very meticulous about placing, resizing, and cropping those images in context of the design document (rather than isolated in a photoshop window) so it seems like a poor choice to try to do all this work again in a separate program.
Is there any method/feature that would help here?

That's great, but in that case, I shouldn't be sending a 300dpi 8x10" image to the printer - I should be sending them a 300dpi 2x5" image with the exact crop that I specified when I was designing in InDesign - otherwise I'm just wasting space.
300ppi is a random convention, sampling an image down from 600ppi certainly won't make the output better. But if you want to adhere to some specific pixel resolution requirement, export a print ready PDF (PDF/X) and set the resolution at export.

  • HELP! Images won't print properly!

    Hello,
I am trying to print an InDesign CS4 document but when I convert it to a pdf and print it some of the images have lines through them and are half transparent. The rest are fine. I did not create this document so I am unsure of what process the individual photographs have gone through. I have checked preflight and it says no errors and has a green button.
I cannot print directly from InDesign CS4 as it gives an error message on the printer..."can't create PictWPSDoc from `/private/var/spool/cups/d00062-001'.ERROR during execution of pictwpsto".
Ideally I would like to solve both these issues but to be able to print the document either way would be great!
Any help is much appreciated as I am getting desperate!

It's do with your printer more than anything else, probably can't handle the file. Hard to know without knowing what printer you have?
You printer (if a desktop out of the shop one) won't have very hi-res anyway, usually around 150 - 200 dpi.
So you could probably print it as a bitmap and not see any difference in picture quality.
Hold on there, Eugene. Printers today output in the range of 600 - 1200 DPI, but tend to use screen frequencies in the range of 100 LPI which means an image resolution at print size in the 150 to 200 PPI range is usually adequate.
    DaraClare2,
I'm curious how this looks on screen with overprint preview turned on. Also, what version of ID are you using, and what formats are the images used?
And expensive printers, especially from Xerox, are not immune to some quirks.

  • Cropping and printing

Cropping and printing...if Im doing all sorts of artistic crops, how will it affect my ability to use standard photo paper sizes when printing?

No an 8x10" image and I think I just figured it out.
    1) Add a preset ie 8x10 left hand panel
    2) Change the size to 8x10 on right hand panel in cell size
    3) On left hand panel select my preset, right click > update with current settings
    Is this correct?

My Image CLASS MF4350d printer is not recognized by windows 8-64 bit any help how can i fix the problem. I just bought new HP computer from Future shop and it came with Windows in it. but this windows8 doesnt have drivers for my printer Image Class MF 4350d. Now I hve no clue how can i fix this isue. Because I checked on Canon website for drivers and downloaded and run the drivers, but no solution for my printer at all.

Yes. I have the latest version intalled but this hasnt helped.
I thought it could be to do with the Shuffle not having enough of a battery charge.
So i plugged it into the wall charger and then tried this didnt work either.
It wont even play music for some reason. The only information I get in the earpiece when I turn it on is what the battery level is at.

Scanning in Mavericks? I can no longer use the scanning function in my HP Officejet 4500.
HP says to go through Preview, Image Capture, or Print/Scan in System Prefs.
Still doesn't work. Any ideas/similar experiences?

Sure it is, yet it's called HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MFP Series *
Today, I followed your other advice, and deleted the printer, deleted the /Library/Printer/hp folder, downloaded the entire set of driver, re-installed the printer twice, once with the driver, once with Bonjour.
The Bonjour Printer has the scan option active, but it is doesn't work (refer to above.), it is called M1217nfw
The Apple Driver Printer doesn't show the scan option at all, it is called M1217nf (as on the http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP list.) This model number doesn't exist, as far as I can tell.
Still, everything works perfectly in Snow Leopard, for a MF printer that has been manufactured years after Snow Leopard was released.
Why going up in software version means going backwards in compatiblity for brand new product is really the question that puzzles me here.

  • IE8 crashes during print to Adobe PDF (Acrobat 9 Pro)

IE8 and MS Paint both crash during print to Adobe PDF.  Neither an update to latest version of Acrobat 9 Pro (9.5.3) nor running repair installation will fix this issue.  Operating system is Windows 7 SP1.
Installed third party PDF Printer so that these two apps can print to pdf.
    Any ideas?

The reinstall is typically the last ditch effort to do. The first step is Help>Repair and Help>Updates. As far as Office 2013, the PDF Maker of AA X is not compatible and you can only print. In your list of errors it showed a problem with AcroTray.exe. As a first step, go to the print and select print-to-file. The file will be a PS file (maybe with a PRN extension). Once the printer if finished, open the file in Distiller to complete the process. If that is successful, then the problem is with AcroTray. Check your running tasks to be sure AcroTray is indeed running. If not, that is likely the problem. If it is, then restart it (it is located in the Acrobat folder). AcroTray provides the interface between the PS creation and Distiller to automate the process of creating the PDF.

  • How do I get the "auto portrait/landscape" option to show during printing in Adobe Reader Touch

When I print using Adobe Reader Touch, the "auto portrait/landscape" options does not show up.  As a result, all pages in a document are printed in the same orientation even if they are not all of the same orientation in the file itself.  I don't believe this is a printer issue because if I use Adobe Reader X (v. 10.1.6) on the same computer/printer, the auto option does show up and the documents print as desired.  I use Windows 8.  As the video quality of Adobe Reader X is extremely blurry in Windows 8, I would like to be able to use Adobe Reader Touch exclusively.  How do I get the latter to give me the "auto portrait/landscape" option during printing?
    Thank you,
    Pelle

    Hello Pelle,
Thanks for the feedback. Our printing code in Adobe Reader Touch doesn't have that capability right now, but since you mention it we should probably do what you're requesting by default. I'll put that into our backlog for a future update, but I can't say yet when it will be available.
In the interim, if you have pages that are different orientations, you can print them in blocks manually to get what you want, but I understand that's a hassle.
