Image Dark on a PC

Hi, I have a Mac Book Pro and I use Final Cut Pro to edit
video for our newspaper's website. Several people with older PC
monitors claim my videos are too dark. They look fine on my screen.
I know that PC monitors tend to be darker while Macs are brighter.
Can anyone recommend settings in Flash or outputting from FCP to
resolve the darkness issue on a PC? I know cleaner has controls to
lighten the image for a PC but I don't know if flash has this.
Thanks.

  • After importing an image from cs5 back into lightroom, lightroom is making the image darker

    Lightroom is making my images darker after i edit them in photoshop cs5 and I dont know why. When i open the image back into photoshop it looks fine. Even when i save it as a jpeg lightroom is making the image darker. When i imported the raw image into lightroom before i edited into photoshop it looked fine. Is there a way to fix lightroom?

    See screen shot:
    Click on the two small triangles and under <Lightroom General Presets> select <Zeroed>. Sorry, it seems that the option <None> is not available anymore in Lr 4.3. But <Zeroed> has the same effect.
    Alternatively, in the Develop Module, bottom right, just above the film strip click on <Reset>.  See screen shot:

  • Photoshop cc print dialog box image dark

    I'm on a MacBook Pro running Mt. Lion with PS CC, an Eizo monitor, printing with an Epson 3880, calibrated and profiled with a ColorMunki. When I preview an image to print, the image is darker in preview, and the color is much different than the actual image. When I print with the proper paper profile, (photoshop manages color and the space is Adobe 1998) it prints looking like the preview image rather tha the one on the monitor. I also run Snow Leopard on a partition with CS6, and the above does not happen, everything works fine. A photog friend of mine with a similar setup is experiencing the same problem since upgrading to Mt. Loin. Another graphic designer friend is running Mavericks and is has the same problem. I have another photog friend in Nashville who is having THE SAME PROBLEM!! Does anyone know what the heck is going on? I'm the only one who kept Snow Leopard so I can still print, which I do on almost a daily basis. What broke what? Is it a bug with PS CC, or did something in MT. Lion break? This is very frustrating for all of us and I find it totally unacceptable.
    If anyone has a clue and can help, we would be eternally greatfull.
    Thanks,
    Greg Nikas

    Thanks for the tip on inserting photos. I'm new here, won't post a link in the future.
    I'll try to simplify my issue;
    1. In CS6 in Snow Leopard, the original/source image looks just like the image in the print dialog box and prints beautifuly. See images below.
    Original image.
    Print dialog box image.
    2. In PS CC and CS6 in Mt. Lion, the original/source image is redder and more saturated than the image in the print dialog box, but the print looks like the the image in the print dialog box. The image in the print dialog box looks like the original/source image in CS6 in Snow Leopard! See images below.
    Original image.
    Print dialog box image.
    3. The issue seems to be with how the original/source image in PS CC and CS6 renders in Mt. Lion. As I said in my intial post, I have three friends who are having the same problem and none of us can figure it out, and I'm the only one who kept Snow Leopard.
    4. I'm on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and Mt. Lion on a partitioned disk.
    5. I have an Eizo CG222W monitor, which is calibrated with an x-rite ColorMunki. Each OS has it's own calibration profile.
    6. I print on an Epson 3880 using the latest driver, and all papers have thier own profile and look the same when printed from either OS.
    7. All settings in PS CC, CS6 and Bridge are identical in both OS's.
    I hope this is stated more clearly.

  • New HDR Image darker than preview

    Today I was using Adobe Bridge to combine sets of 3 photos with different exposures to create HDR images and sending them to Photoshop. So far today I made 20+ such images and successfully saved them into PSDs.
    I just ran into an odd problem. After clicking 'Merge to HDR' in the Bridge -> Photoshop option, Photoshop did it's thing of merging my 3 images. The preview window came up, it looked perfect, so I clicked 'Ok'. Then it created an Untitled document (as it always does), except that this image is much darker than what was shown in the preview. I tried doing some light adjustments, can't get it to be what I saw in the preview window.
    All of my other HDR creations were exactly the same as I saw in the preview window. What's going on?

    One important thing to keep in mind is that what you see on screen when <br />working with 32-bit images IS NOT the actual image. There are no monitors at <br />least consumer priced monitors that can show 32-bit's of data. What you are <br />seeing is a faked representation. You will only see the real image when you <br />convert out to 16-bit or 8-bit.<br /><br />Also, many video cards allow you to set 32-bit color in the control panel <br />(Windows, can't speak for the Mac) this is NOT the same thing as a 32-bit <br />HDR image. The 32-bit color is the number of colors NOT the dynamic range <br />from darks to lights it is this dark to light data that can't be seen on <br />monitors.<br /><br />BTW I just recently learned this from a podcast from the digital photography <br />connection. The have Lightroom and Photoshop podcasts and just recently <br />covers HDR for both programs, this was covered as was PhotoMatix.<br /><br /><br /><[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]..<br />> Once you hit okay in the preview window and Photoshop creates the 32-bit <br />> image, you may want to try going to your view menu and adjusting your <br />> 32-bit viewing options.<br />><br />> [edited by host]<br />><br />> Hope this helps!<br />> -Kurt

  • Photoshop saves images darker than they appear in-program

    I am using Photoshop CS6 64-bit version, and I also had this problem with the previous Photoshop CS5 (64-bit aswell). (Windows 7 64-bit)
    I've had this problem for a very long time and I've been looking for answers for tons of times however this time around I really want it fixed because it is very annoying.
    Whenever I save most images that I've edited or created in Photoshop, they get saved as darker than they are in the program;
    It shouldn't be a monitor problem. I have two monitors and it occurs on both. When I save the image and open it on the same monitor for comparison, it is darker than it was in photoshop.
    If I use a screen-cap tool like Gyazo directly in photoshop to upload a screenshot of the image to the web, it appears just as light as it should (I am not sure if it's 100% as light as it should, however it's definitely way better and lighter than saving the image then uploading it).
    Here's a comparison. On the left it is the wallpaper opened in Photoshop. On the right side I have the image saved as a .PNG and shown using the default Windows Photo Viewer:
    http://i.gyazo.com/02f434cce077a672e0169f7c2875b3ef.png
    You can see that there is a clear difference, and that it's way darker than it should be. It pretty much ruins the image in this case due to how dark it gets.
    (Yes, I've tried saving a very wide range of image filetypes with no success)
    Continuing on the monitor/screen-cap part above... So logically there should be some issues with the actual saving of the image in Photoshop. Am I using sRGB? Yes. I have checked all the settings in the color settings countless times to make sure it's right. I also tried playing a bit around with them to no avail. Here is a picture of my color settings (Ctrl+Shift+K): http://i.gyazo.com/b3f993b61e2e9c701d0820886670da36.png
    I have both tried to reset my settings and re-installed Photoshop. As I also said I've had this problem with an earlier version of Photoshop aswell. I have tried to convert color profiles before I save the image and I've made sure it's saved using sRGB.
    I'm convinced Photoshop is saving the image wrongly or something due to the screen-cap case.
    If anyone has any leads on how to go about fixing this then please speak out. If you require any more information about my hardware/software or what I've tried, just ask.
    Thanks!

    This has nothing to do with Photoshop. The problem is that Windows Photo Viewer displays the image incorrectly. Apparently it's choking on the display profile, while Photoshop manages to work with it.
    Both applications are fully color managed and should display identically. If they don't the problem is nearly always the display profile.
    Try to set sRGB as default display profile in Windows. If the difference disappears you know you have a bad profile and need to replace it. If you don't have a calibrator to make a new profile, just use sRGB for now. Manufacturer-supplied profiles are notoriously defective in any number of ways and should be avoided.

  • Images darker when added to slideshow

    I've recently noticed that photos added to a new slideshow appear — within the slideshow interface and when exported — much, much darker than the original photo. It's as iff the black point for the image has been cranked way up and virtually all detail in the shadows goes to black.
    It's been a while since I worked within the slideshow interface of Aperture, so perhaps some small detail of slideshows is eluding me. Has anyone else noticed this kind of behavior and is there an easy solution?
    Thanks!

    tnx for the info Test Screen Name,
    You were right about the resolution, the smaller pic had 300dpi while the bigger one have a resolution of 96dpi,
    Why i didn't tough of that
    This explains why one of the image is 3x bigger than the others.
    I'm not sure why paint switch the resolution like that.
    Now i know to work with image in inch / mm
    Thanks again for you help, you saved me alot of time trying to figure that one out.

  • Photoshop CS3 makes all my images dark and over contrasted

    I am confused here. Just installed CS3 and all my photographs on my monitor look dark and overly contrasted when compared to simply opening the image on the Microsoft viewer. I thought it was a color management thing but it does it even when turing it off. How do I fix this?

    Hello,
    I've just upgraded to CS3 (windows Vista) and I'm having the same problem. Images are dark adn have an almost brownish tone to them. I tried "leave as is" "assign RGB" and all the options under "Assign profile" and nothing helped.
    How can it be an ICC profile issue if the pictures look fine in CS2?
    Please help, right now I'm thinking I blew $199 on an upgrade I won't be able to use.

  • Image darker when saved than on-screen buffered image

    Hi,
    Here is my little application. I am trying to simulate an rgb screen look based on image data. ie, the new image is an exaggerated tv look of the original image.
    When I try to encode/save a jpeg from my buffered image, the saved image is darker (colours also seem to be different) than what i see in my application frame. I like what I see in the JFrame and would like to have that saved. I am just an artist hack so excuse the cobbled together code. I have also included the original image, the image as it is saved, and an image as a rough approximation of the image in the JFrame.
    In the code you will see I have tried different ways to encode the image (commented out)
    Any ideas about this issue or how to make this program more sound please let me know.

    the orignal loaded into the appp:

    the saved image:

    the image as it is in the application window:

    Hi
    My 2c.
    I`ve had a quick look at your code and the output and I`m assuming that the vertical RGB lines are what you intended.
    Jpeg works in blocks, and averages pixel valiues across them.
    If introducing those primaries into the graphic and then compressing it makes it darker that`s likely the result of the primary colours being averaged by the compression algorithm.
    You should look at resizing the image first, drawing it onto an offscreen buffer, then doing an overlay (alpha channel) with the primary colors instead, IMHO.

  • Why are my images darker on a mobile device?

    Ok so here's a weird question. When I edit my images in PSE12, they look flawless on my computer. They even still look great on Facebook on my computer. When I view my images on my Android phone, even on Facebook, the images are darker, the colors are what I can best describe as violent. My customers say that the images are still great on disc. What my question is, how can I make the images look better on my Android phone and would my customers see the same awful colors on their devices or would they look like they do on a computer? I've tried resizing the images, readjusting, converting to sRGB, you name it. HELP PLEASE!!! Lol. I just want a fair and true representation of my work on mobile devices as they are on PC. Forgot to add that even when I just transfer the images via USB to my device, they're still dark.

  • Canon 5dm3 thumbnails perfect browser image dark

    i've got aperture 3.3.2, i've used aperture for 4 years. old camera was canon 5d, but got the canon 5dm3-shooting raw. Images look fine on the camera & as a thumbnail in aperture, once i click on the thumbnail & image goes to the browser screen, it takes about 2-5 seconds to load fully & the image turns very very dark. i tried it on my desk pro & laptop, both the same, old 5d images still perfect (actually lighten slightly as they load but always have). new canon g1x photos load perfectly also in raw. i can "correct " the images
    but takes major correction. Leave for europe in 3 weeks, just want to be sure new 5dm3 is infact exposing correctly. Thanks!

    Highlight tone priority is the one.  Disable that.  My cameras are olders so I don't have that setting but I know that Aperture doesn't currently read this (proprietary) metadata that Canon uses.
    Highlight alerts I think is the blinkies you see on the LCD for photos where there are blown-out or specular highlights.  It doesn't affect the exposure of the photos itself.

  • Lightroom images darker in Photoshop

    After I edit images in Lightroom 4, I export the jpg images to a new folder.  When I open the jpg's in Photoshop or Bridge they are noticeably darker than they were when exported from LR. What am I doing wrong?

    pictureguysteve02 wrote:
    After looking into it more I think my problem may be with the color profile.  I'm using the eye-one display 2 with eye-one match 3 software on my i mac cinema display.  The general options on the eye-one software are set to ICC specification version 2.  Monitor profile size is set to "Small (Matrix)"  Should I change something there?
    What can be an issue is if you build V4 profiles which depending on the software generating said profile, LR can have issues with. You could try a LUT profile but that's sometimes the cause of issues you see (again, depending on the package that writes the ICC profile). By all means try LUT or double check that the settings is Matrix.
    You do want to view Photoshop and LR whereby LR is in Develop module and as said, at 1:1. Zooming out can affect the accuracy of the preview.

  • Make an image darker

    Hi all !
    I was looking for making a transparent background using a frame.
    I have a screen resolution of 1600 by 600, but my application uses
    the left part of the screen (800 x 600).
    Now that I have captured the screen, I want to make it darker,
    so the user can distinguish reel icons from the application surface.
    I've (almost) never worked using images.
    Question : How can I display a darker image than the one I've captured ?
    Can somebody help me for my quest ?

    // This parameter changes how much you darken the image
    float brightnessRatio = 0.8f;
    // Get an image producer for the image
    ImageProducer ip = img.getSource();
    // Construct a suitable filter
    RGBImageFilter filter = new RGBImageFilter()
            boolean canFilterIndexColorModel = false;
            public int filterRGB(int x, int y, int rgb)
                // Extract the individual fields
                int red = ((rgb & 0x00ff0000) >> 16);
                int green = ((rgb & 0x0000ff00) >> 8);

                // Use the brightness to code up a grey
                int return_value = Color.HSBtoRGB(hsb[0],
                                                  hsb[1],
                                                  hsb[2] * brightnessRatio);
                return return_value;
    // Create an image producer for the filtered image

  • Lightroom 4 NEF files/D5100 - fully loaded preview image dark

    Hi Team,
    I shoot in raw (NEF) with a Nikon D5100 and I notice that when the preview fully loads, it loads much darker than what is showing for the preview while it is loading.  Does anyone know why this might be?  The image I'm seeing while the image is loading in Lightroom is the image I want to work with, not the darkened image that is showing after the image preview fully loads.
    -photorobot2010

    The image that you see while LR is loading your picture is the JPEG that is embedded in the raw file by the camera. LR replaces it with its own preview which it renders from the raw data. Probably you have Active D-Lighting set in your camera's menu. That causes the image to be underexposed, and then boosted when the JPEG is created. LR ignores ADL, so you'd be better off setting it to "off".

  • HP Officejet Pro 8100 - Washed out blacks in images / Dark blacks in text prints???

    Here is my system: iMac Maverics OS, HP Officejet Pro 8100, Photoshop, Pages & Genuine inks.
    I print a text page (Black and various colours) from Pages/Text Edit or any other text program and the colours are deeply saturated, blacks are black and I'm totally happy.
    I print the exact same text, recreated in Photoshop, everything is washed out. Blacks are greyish, colours are pastel & it looks like it's been printed at 50% opacity.
    I saved my Photoshop text mock up as a .Jpg .TIF .BMP and tried printing them in Pages & Mac Preview - same washed out results as when I print direct from inside Photoshop.
    All my software is genuine, drivers are up to date. It's like HP use one process to print text and a whole other process to print images, **bleep** is going on???
    Please advise on how to fix, if anyone else is having or has had similar issues.....

    Hello @pA8100 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
    I see you're experiencing Photoshop colour issues.  I would like to help.
    It is possible you need to adjust the colour settings in Photoshop from RGB to CKMY.
    I would recommend utilizing this article on How to Convert RGB to CMYK in Photoshop.

  • Image darker after import mov

    I have import mov to FCP. When I put side by side by using Viewer and Quicktime (from desktop), the viewer looks slidely darker than the original mov. How to solve this problem?

    There is no problem. The Quicktime file has a lighter gamma so as to be visible on most computer monitors. FCP Viewer and Canvas are set to closely match the gamma of TV. If you want to see what the QT will look like with proper TV gamma, to match FCP, then in the QT Preferences, at the bottom of General, there is a button that says ENABLE FCP Color Compatibility.
