Image Date error on importing TIFF images from Disk

I have thousands of high quality (~100 Mb each) images in 20 folders on a 1 Tb hard drive. I have been using Bridge to manage the images, adding some metadata such as keywords and copyright data. I am considering importing all these images into Aperture and using it as the primary image management tool.
But I am concerned about an apparent bug in the way Aperture handles the "image date and time".
In Bridge (and GraphicConverter), the "image date" field is correct, directly from my CFV digital back on the camera and inline with the time of day the shot was taken (e.g. sunrise image at 6am). When I import the image into Aperture, the time gets shifted by 14 hours.
For example, an image in Bridge that correctly shows Date Created as 10/05/2009 7:36am gets distorted to 10/05/2009 9:36pm, exactly 14 hours later than the correct time. It was taken at 7:30 in the morning but, in Aperture, looks like it was taken in the late evening. It does not look like a time zone issue as the image was taken in the same time zone as my Mac Pro is set to.
I have tried deleting the masters and re-importing them with GMT +2 and GMT -12 in the two time zone adjustment fields. This gets the right time into the Image Date field but then the image has the wrong time zone data in the "Camera Time Zone" and "Picture Time Zone" fields.
I have tried running MetaData > Update Date and Time (with Master files ON) but it comes back with an error "no master files were adjusted ... because they have a format that does not permit modification".
I have tried running MetaData > Update Date and Time (with Master files OFF). It appears to work but I assume that the underlying file in the Aperture library still has the incorrect time.
Have others faced this problem? Is there a solution? Is it a known bug that Apple might fix one day?
Regards
Peter

I am seeing a very similar problem when importing TIFF files back to Aperture.
This is what I do and what I see:
1. I import RAW images from my camera into Aperture. They show the correct date and time.
2. I open an RAW image in Photoshop (CS4) directly from the finder. The image inside Photoshop (file/info) shows the correct date and time.
3. After editing I save my image as 16bit TIFF and it still shows correct date and time.
4. I import the new TIFF back into Aperture. The time is shifted back 15 hrs!
I can then go in and Metadata/Update Date and Time (no masters) and it works well, but it is a pain to do on each image I process.
In all cases camera and image timezone is set to US Pacific as it should be.
To me this seems like Aperture is somehow miss-interpreting the timezone when reimporting TIFFs.
I have not tried importing JPEGs or PSDs back but I will and will report back...

  • Bad Image Data Error!

    Hi,
I'm doing a project for a my class doing a simple sunrise/sunset program. I've noticed that if I either create simple images in fireworks and import them, or even images form the web, I get an error message saying "Bad Image Data Error!" and all the images turn to red squares.
Any ideas of how to fix this? I don't want to have create images in flash.
    Thanks,
    Avi

Oh and I forgot to add....I've experience this problem on both CS3 & CS4. Tried it on my desktop and laptop, both are Windows 7 64bit.

  • Error while Importing .bmp Images

    Hello All,
I'm getting an error when attempting to import a bitmap (*.bmp) image file into Flash Professional CS6. I tried both "Import to Library" and "Import to Stage" and they both throw the same error...
This is the Error I get when attempting the import:
"One or more files were not imported because there were problems reading them."
After searching around online I found a few examples of people getting similar problems when importing stuff but none of those were for impoting .bmp images.
Any idea why I can't do this?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    EDIT:
I just tried downloaing a .bmp from the internet and was able to successfully import that, but still can't import the one I actuallty want. The bitmap that I want to import is one that I created using Gimp 2.8 and had to "export" it to .bmp format from Gimp's xcf file format...
    Thanks in Advance,
    Matt

Hey sinious, thanks for the reply!
Ok I'll just use the PNG format then... I was only trying BMP because I read that it had the bast image quality. I've been using PNG format for ALL my Frame's Backgrounds, but some of the Text that was part of the PNG Image (*i.e. part of the background image) looked choppy after importing it into my Library and setting it as the Frame's background. But it looks fine when viewing the image with any other "Image Viewer" type program.
Might be that it just looks a little choppy when "testing" the movie, by hitting Ctrl+Enter...
    EDIT:
Ok, so I just Published it and viewed it on another PC (*I have it setup to be able to be viewed from anywhere in the network using the flashpolicy file stuff) and it seems to look better after its Published... Maybe the quailty isn't as good when debugging/testing the movie...?
Thanks Again for your reply, much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Why am I getting data error lines in my image when it loads in LR 4?

I have LR 4.  When clicked to enlarge an image (a RAW image) it took a moment to load, (as usual) but when it finished there were multicolored strait horizontal lines in it.  What is not working correctly?  Is it Lightroom?  Is it my external hard drive?  Is it my computer?  I know there can be SD card errors, but I don't think that's it since I think it has happened to pictures that were okay on the card.  I think it is happening between my computer, external hard drive, and lightroom since I think I have seen this error appear on photos I have viewed in LR pre-error, and then the errors appeared.  If any one knows the source of this problem that would be appreciated!   This could be a dangerous problem if it happened to a valuable photo.

The above muskrat photo was one of a series of 9.  Just now I transfered the 9 from my external hard drive to my computer, and then imported them into lightroom.  Now, of the 9  that I imported to LR from my computer (copies of the originals that are stored on ext hard drive) 3 of them have lines.  Only one of the series have lines on my ext hard drive.  So it it a growing issue inside my ext hard drive > computer hard drive> Lightroom system.  Does that give any more helpful information to work on?

  • Feature Request: Functions to read image data, and write to tiff or jpeg.

Functions that render image data and make it available to plugins before writing to disk would facilitate writing plugins that take rendered image data into consideration. Also, if the aforementioned image data could be subsequently written to disk possibly after a bit of modification, it would open up a whole new world for plugins.
Plugins don't need to access the mid-rendering stages in the raw conversion / rendering pipeline, but having a shot at post-rendered, pre-written to disk image data would allow pixel manipulating export plugins to be written. A set of image file manipulation methods would be a decent work-around, providing the ability to read/write tiff/jpeg files.
    Rob

Well, I'm replying to my own question!
I solved the problem by reading the data from my card, then using Flatten Pixmap to create a pixmap from my data array, then using Draw Flattened Pixmap to create a picture to send to a 2D Picture.  This works fine.
Now, how can I change the Pixmap into Image so I can save to an AVI?

  • Error while importing Still image.

I searched the data base and found a similar question but it wasn't answered.
I'm running PE 10 on a Mac (O S 10.6.8) with 4GB of RAM and lots of disk space.
First attempt importing a stitched photo (panorama) from LR3 as a .TIF; got this error message - Error: The importer reported a generic error.
Went back to LR and converted to .JPG
Second attempt importing same photo as .JPG format; got this error message - Error: File video dimensions (width/height) too large.
Does anyone know what the limitations are for importing photos into PE 10?  I've never had this issue with iMovie.
    Thank you.

If you want PRE to be responsive you should follow Steves' recommendation to resize to 1000x750 (SD).
At the technical level I think the maximum allowable dimensions are 4096 x 4096 - but PRE will struggle with pictures that size.

  • InDesign crashing when importing tiff images

I have upgraded to InDesign CC 2014. I have trouble importing some tiff images. InDesign crashes. Not all tiff images create problems. It depends on which version of Photoshop, they are saved in. If I open the image in Photoshop and saves again, there are not any problems. Our database is very large and contains several folders, so it is a big task to archive all images again, even if I create an action in Photoshop. I have searched, but I can not find any settings in InDesign that helps. Does anybody else has encountered this problem and found a solution?

  • After 10000 images, Aperture begins to importing new images out of order

    Hi All,
I'm at about 13,000 images and from time to time I noticed that whenever I imported images after 10,000...Aperture at that point had begun the numbering sequence over again, some of the images would wind up next to its identically numbered image say from a year ago. In other words, Aperture is sorting by image number instead of by date even though I've selected date.
Now it is happening all the time and all the new images (after 10,000) are finding their home somewhere within the catalog of images instead of at the very end.
I thought I was going to be able to resolve the issue quickly by selecting the 'sort by image date' but that does not fix it. I've tried sorting the dates in an ascending and descending order but nothing I try fixes the sequence. I desperately need to get my images back into chronological order. Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Tyler

    orehek -
Are you renaming the images on import? and if so, which preset are you using? Aperture doesn't have its own naming system otherwise. It uses the file names as the version name.
Also, as another poster asked, which view are you using to view them all at once? All Photos? You can't have more than 10K versions in a single project I believe but I don't see how that could contribute to the weirdness you are seeing.
As for why sort by date doesn't work, that makes no sense. Unless what you actually have is correct, ie, you have duplicate images in your library, that rightly have the same date and name, so the sorts reflect that. Or you have made new versions from your existing images - those would also sort like that. Can you give us some more details/examples?
